Happy Valentines Day everyone. And what a better day to start a mini plot? I can't think of one.
While the League has finally set into their new home, a rumor has started up. They say that if you find a round and smooth stone and drop it into the river that goes through PI, it'll reveal the date of when you'll meet your true love. Naturally, all sorts of romantics have cropped up to try it out. Little do they know something far more sinister is in the works. While this will mostly stay a PI plot, you can bring your other clan cats in to try and learn their date too.
Funk didn't get all the fuss about it. This sounded like yet another rumor floating about, just like all the others that came and went with the time. But he was surprised how many League members were scouring the stretch near the river for a stone or two. Guess some things were truly unanimous across the clans. Even a few stragglers from others were dipping stones in water on the outskirts. He didn't mind, they were being watched intently by the more stone faced members anyway. Sitting up on the hill, a breeze picked up. Looking up now as the sun was covered by a cloud, he wondered if he should have a bad feeling about this.
Lorelei had tossed every kind of stone she could find in the river. Even when others gently corrected her, they would swipe the correct rocks she missed. Not that she was overly concerned. This was a fun day she got to splash in the river without care. Last time was too dramatic, too much yelling and tense. Today, she felt more free. But after tossing another stone in the river, she couldn't help but watch it change. Her odd eyes scrunched up, unable to really read what was peeling away.
"What a waste of time. All those cats are going to catch a cough." Blue had become quite the pessimist lately. She would like to blame it on her pregnancy, but the truth was that her sour attitude was present long before that unwelcome surprise. Presently she looked very much the part of a Queen, her sides bulging, her scent sweet with milk. She sat down next to Funk but put a tail-length between them, "Lorelei's quite a few moons older than me but I can't help but feel like an elder watching her prance about like that. I wonder just where she gets all that energy."

Funk didn't move, for as much of a soft spot that he still had for Blue, he knew that she would back away if he did. Least she was talking to him, and not avoiding him like he figured she would. That made him a little happy. "Now now. Let them have their fun. Can't have them work all the time." As if planned, the end of his sentence was highlighted by another stone being thrown into the river and a few gasps as some onlookers crowded around the thrower to see what it said. His light green gaze narrowed briefly, before decompressing as he looked to Blue again. "Besides, need to keep Nyira and you busy." Funk smiled before looking over at Lorelei. She had now been staring at something with intensity for a while now. Funk's tail flicked above himself, musing aloud to himself, "Guess those that never got to grow up stop worrying about it after a time."
"Oh I think I'll be plenty busy here soon." Blue rolled her eyes at Funk and began to groom herself while she watched the more lively cats throw the stones around. It wasn't often that League cats took to the water like that and she was itching to join in just to swim and relax. The water was still very cold but would feel great against her achy limbs. If she was lucky, she may even be able to catch a fish or two; yet, she refrained, deciding it not a good idea. She'd probably embarrass herself, "I'm surprised you aren't down there, though, the game sounds right up your ally.

It was just starting to warm up, still far too cold for the Nemesis to consider swimming. "I'm sure you will." His short pelt was cut through by another breeze, but Funk stayed rooted to the spot. His smile picked up. She was right, this was right up his alley. At first, he didn't consider it cause he had already found the love of his life. And if he hadn't, he was too afraid to find out. Something gave him a bad feeling though. Maybe he was getting superstitious after everything that had happened. The light scarf around his neck fluttered till it fell still. "True. Maybe I will. But it's not like this is a one day thing." He laughed, looking over at Blue, "Besides, you really think those stones even do anything? For all we know, it's just a trick of the eye."
"I have no doubt that it's a trick of the eye." Blue replied, although her voice was not very stern, "But I'm sure this is a healthier exercise than whatever they were doing before, so it's not so bad. Everyone loves magic and mystery even if it's obviously fake - it helps you forget your own mortality for just a minute... Oh, sorry, I'm rambling. I'd better get out of your fur so you can go have fun with the kids." Blue pulled herself to her feet awkwardly and glanced back at the stream a little longingly. Really, she could go down there, it wouldn't hurt anything, but she was holding herself back for reasons unclear even to herself.
Discordantpaw had somehow caught wind of this rock game and made the way clear from her home in SunClan to experience it. She had been to the League several times before, of course, but she'd always been with someone else, typically a more experienced Warrior who knew these cats well enough to keep her out of trouble. Well, today she had come all on her own, not even mentioning it to her clanmates before she left. "Excuse me, could you show me how to do the rock trick?" The calico asked Lorelei, a new cat to her, which made it a little weird that she skipped introductions.

That's what he would have liked to believe. Or what his first instinct would be to believe before he joined this place. But after listening to some accounts and that whole thing with the Sun God eating Wanheda, he wasn't entirely sure. The more things happened, the less sure Funk was of what exactly ruled the world. It left him far more curious than anything else, and a little existential dread. But who was counting? "True, we're at least saving a lot of flowers from getting their petals plucked off." Granted, Funk E'tan hadn't seen a lot of 'love me / love me nots' but he hadn't been keeping a close eye. He looked over as Blue stood up, rising slightly to attempt to help her, but she got on her feet before he could get there. He nodded, "Alright. I guess I'll head down. Sure you don't want to?"
Lorelei had turned the stone, this way and that. But no matter how she looked at it, it didn't make any sense. The pattern had certainly not changed, but it was written in a language she didn't understand. Her tall ears swiveled as someone spoke close to her, and she turned to find the apprentice. She smelled of Sunclan. Their alliance, good. Jumping to her feet, she pushed her rock to the side for now. "Yeah, yeah. You get a good smooth and round rock and then you throw it in the river." She didn't bother with the introductions, not minding that they were skipped.
Waspcrush knew this was ridiculous, a little nuts. But the Nightclan warrior was desperate. Most of the appropriate rocks were taken already, so the multicolored tabby spent most of her time searching for one. She didn't tell anyone she was leaving either, and the sun made her sleepy. She could have passed over a bunch of stones for all she knew. Stifling another yawn, she continued to sift through the riverbank.
Blue looked extremely torn over Funk's invitation. The black she-cat had noticed that he had tried to help her up; it struck her as very un-Funk-like to be accommodating like that. It was as if he felt guilty or something. She wondered what it was for. Making her pregnant, making her Mage, or both? Oh well, she'd forgiven up on him for all of those things, not to his face, but in her heart. Yes, she still loved him, wouldn't admit it, wouldn't even seek it, and even hated herself for it. She glanced over at the stones and felt that childish desire to throw them in the water and find out if he was her soulmate or not. Surely that magic would be stronger if he was at her side, if magic existed at all, that is. But did she really want to know the truth, trust the gimmick? Blue had a feeling she'd only hurt herself if she took a single step toward the bank. She was not even a fraction the cat the Glowstar was, it was pointless to even compare them, the DayClan leader held all the cards and a few extra aces up her sleeves. "No, I'm fine. Thank you." --- "Hmmm..." Discordantpaw eyed the smooth stones on the riverbank and selected one that was particularly pretty. It was oblong, peppery gray and about the size of the average mouse. She picked it up eagerly and dropped it once on the ground before making into into the edge of the water. It made a respectable splash and spewed water droplets across the SunClan she-cat's face. She winced a little bit and shook her head, then pulled the stone out to see the magic happen. She was amazed to see the speckles actually shift and form some weird shape that she could not read. She bounded over to Lorelei and poked her flank, "You can read these right? What does mine say?"

Funk couldn't deny his soft spot his Blue. His jump up to help wasn't because he felt guilty or anything. He meant to make her Mage. Didn't mean to get her pregnant but oops things happen. As most pregnancies did. Still, he was unable to describe the gesture any other way that a desire to help. Though he wouldn't admit it, even to himself. Course he was a little sad to see her go, as he always was. Still, with a wave of his tail, he spoke. "Very well. Take care on the way back." As he walked down the hill, he came across Lorelei and Discordantpaw. Lorelei had a hard time reading her own, and now her odd eyes squinted trying to read Discordant's. The Nemesis walked up behind the pair, tapping Lorelei on the shoulder as he read the stone. Being an ex-kittypet had its advantages. "Let's see here... it says imminent. So, real soon."
( "Didn't mean to get her pregnant but oops things happen" LOL )
Blue padded away but not all that far. Being by the river had its perks and she visited this place more frequently than most, so she knew the best sunning spots. The black she-cat curled up on her perch and rested her head on her paws. She intended to take a nap but she couldn't clear her head, so she just laid there and and enjoyed the sun warming her pelt. --- "That must mean my soul-mate is in the League. Hmm. Never would have guessed." Disocardantpaw seemed a lot less excited by the news than she had been seeing the words appear. That was typical for her; she was a cat who liked the journey a whole lot more than the end result. She looked up at Funk with unreadable purple eyes and cocked her head to the side, "Can you read Lorelei's too, Dad?"

(c'est la vie)
"I suppose it could be thought of that way. Or maybe you'll meet them on the way back." Funk shrugged. Granted, the text on the rocks was oddly clear and didn't look quite right. It swirled around this way and that, like an art student trying to write overly fancy to where it became illegible. The ends of some letters crossed into other letters to where he wasn't sure if it even said imminent.
Lorelei's feigned surprise of "Wait, Dad?" was met with a cold look. One the tall calico couldn't help but laugh at. Those light green eyes rolled as the paws pulled the stone closer to them. Though, for as much as Funk looked, it didn't make sense. It was less of a word and more of a child's scribble. Some words he could make out, like 'done' and 'never' but he wasn't sure if he was just seeing what he wanted. Brushing away the water didn't help, it still shone in his eyes. "I can't make it out."
"Huh, weird." Lorelei's ears flattened at that. But she didn't seem particularly hurt by it.
"Interesting, interesting..." Discordantpaw replied but she was already growing kind of bored of this whole game. The water was a lot more appealing; she wasn't usually a cat that liked getting her feet wet but it felt good against her paw-pads. It could be a lot more fun if she played her cards right. She crouched down with a classic downward dog then jumped into the icy water, which just barely reach her ankles. She was shocked by how cold it was now that all four paws were submerged but ignored it to instead train her eyes on Funk and Lorelei. If she did this right, she should be covered in dewy water droplets, "These rocks are boring. Wanna play water tag?"

The stones bothered Funk, he couldn't put his paw on why though. Lorelei, of course, took advantage of the offer. Yelling out a YES before charging into the water at full speed. Drops splashed against him as Lorelei kicked them up. Now what were the stones? How did others read them when he barely could? It must have been a trick of the eye, yet the stone didn't change no matter how much he turned it. The gears were spinning as the tall calico sent ripples throughout the stream. "You two go ahead. I gotta figure this out. You don't need these anymore, right?" He pointed the stones at them, and watched Lorelei shake her head enthusiastically. "No, you can keep it, Funky Tan." She yelled, a sigh breathing out of Funk's muzzle as he began searching for more left behind.
(where do you want to take this? I can have Dissy drown a little bit xD)
Discordantpaw hadn't expected the larger she-cat to so quickly commit to the game. Not many cats liked water all that much and even fewer would so agree to play with her. She was a little notorious for bending rules every chance she got. It was fun to see how far you could go without breaking. That being said, water tag was pretty simple. Play tag but it water. Not a lot of room for ambiguity, but she could figure something out, "I'm it, umm, Sissy!"
The mostly black she-cat dropped into a playful crouch, daring Lorelei to lunge at her. She knew that she was at a disadvantage but it was all in good fun. Just when she thought she saw her opponent move an inch, she dove forward, making the biggest splash that she could manage before drawing back as quick as a snake. Discordantpaw made note that a few of the droplets hit the other she-cat and grinned, "Now you're it!"
Sure, she didn't actually make contact with Lorelei, but a splash was a tag too, right?

(i wasn't sure kinda hoping someone would have jumped in here by now but she can if you'd like)
Siissy? Lorelei hadn't been called that in a long time. Not since Brother and Fia referred to her at it. Though Sissy was something she would call Fia with affectionately when they met up. It was strange to hear it again, especially from some Sunclan apprentice. When she moved the slightest bit, Discorantpaw was on her, splashing her with water before running away. "That's how it is huh? Alright." The calico lowered herself briefly, tensing before charging down the shallow river at full speed. Shallow to her, really, she was rather tall. Long and gangly limbs somehow all working together to let her skate down and right at the apprentice. "Better run. Sister doesn't know mercy."

Meanwhile, Funk had gathered a few of the rocks together. Sure enough, they were all of similar size and shape. A little larger than a paw, all either oval or circular. They were far too smooth, seeing them all together felt so wrong. Like they were all manufactured or something. But they were rocks, each shining in the light with a different pattern. It was strange, strange enough to fuel the excitement in Funk's veins as he kept collecting more.

"I really shouldn't be surprised at this point." Senescence, of course, had to make an entrance at some point. After all, the Proxy, strangely, seemed to show up at rather convenient moments that just seemed to give her the chance to annoy the Nemesis. "Naturally, the most hopeless of them is the one casting the first stone. So, tell me Funk, is there hope in you finding love after all? Or have you finally exhausted all outlets because no one is really willing to tolerate you?" She rather ignored Lorelei's presence, at least more than a glance and a soft sigh of apparent disappointment. Or perhaps it was resignation. Did it matter?

Funk held back a sigh, spreading the stones out until about twenty of them were cradled by the grass. She was definitely in charge of surveying him, that much was clear with her annoying ways of coming around when he didn't want her to. Really, she was definitely looking for moments to. He knew. Though if he wanted her to stop, he would have said something a long time ago. "And I'm not surprised you didn't make an appearance during all the hustle and bustle. Are you still too scared to see if anyone can really love that cold heart filling your chest? Even if every string has been cut, I get to at least say I cut them myself, no?" She sure knew how to cut deep, he'd always give her that. It felt like a contest at this point, which was part of the reason he didn't mind striking back. Still, his words were as whimsical as ever, and with a flick of his tail, he let it go. "But enough of that. The whole rumor is rather fishy, no one I spoke to really knew where it came from. The whole rocks actually having words appear on them, I can attempt to understand. But not when they don't make any sense. I mean, can you make any sense of these symbols?" Just like that, back to work. Funk wouldn't admit he was curious what she would say, but also he really didn't need to.

She had been an outsider to the group until recently. Her lithe, ebony frame could hardly be seen as she approached the others with squinted eyes. "No, don't throw that!" She snapped to a nearby cat and snatched up the shiny bit of metal they were about to throw in mistake of a stone. With a quick flick of the paw, she snatched up the shiny object. "Can't you see that this doesn't look like the other stones? That's because it isn't one, you daft furball." Her tail flicked once and she whisked around to approach Funk E'tan and Senescence, shiny object now attached to the jingly thing around her paw. A mixture of humor and indifference shone in her icy blue eyes as she picked up on their conversation. "I hope I'm not intruding." That was a lie, she was incredibly content to be entering into this bit of banter. Like a leech, she loved sucking up the drama but never taking part herself.

He barely heard the mingling of the others, a little too engrossed in his sudden research to notice anything till Voracity approached them. The newest Pathologist, the sudden replacement for Goby. It was hard to figure out how she would fit in, not that Funk's eyes showed any hint of insecurity. "Ah hello Voracity. I hope you don't expect that to buy that." He spoke so confidently, so plainly. Like a threat, and then immediately it was gone. "I've been investigating where this whole rumor started, and that's when the queen of the knowings and goings showed up. What about you? Do these patterns look familiar at all?"
"It's strange you think I have a heart to begin with." Sen gave the rock a slight glance before her gaze rested on Funk once more, as if the strangeness of the fact she could read such a thing that shouldn't exist had by this point been accepted by her. Then again, did anyone expect something different? The Proxy was the queen of taking the most outlandish thing and making it seem she thought it was about as interesting as watching grass grow. Certainly, she looked as bored as ever as she spoke again. "It's a countdown."
