"Yeah, your blood only pumps on sheer spite." Funk's tongue clicked, turning the stone this way and that, showing each side to Voracity before Senescence spoke up again. "Wait, what..." He trailed off. Sure, the pattern was changing. But a countdown? Really. Now he could start to see the sections moving in time, like each second something ticked away. He looked over to the river, where there was still a group of cats milling about. "Which one is closest to hitting the end?" The numbers made no sense to the untrained eye. Swirling and expanding this way and that, but all on a set time. All synchronized.
Senescence lazily gazed over at the cats, then back to Funk. "It's you." She said it more deadpan than usual, if that was possible, her gaze drifting to the numbers a moment as if for effect. Okay, no, she was lying through her teeth, and after a moment she took a more significant glance at the group, and the rock, before pointing to a pint sized tom. Renaud, former Absum Lux cat, son of Sayaka, and a real pain in the tail, thinking he was better than everyone. Arrogance to make up for the size difference.
"His countdown just stopped." As if to accentuate her point, the tom tripped from his point on a larger stone, falling directly into the water. He struggled up as he went downriver, but eventually sank out of sight.

"Aww, man. But my pure maiden heart cannot be captured so easily." Funk placed a paw over his heart, faux concern oozing from his voice as his eyes fluttered shut. It was a lie, he knew. Something or other about liars able to recognize their own kind. Not that he could tell by the tone, always too deadpan for his taste. Oh well. He opened his eyes again, leaving his brief stupor to see Sen pointing at Renaud. Some Absum Lux cat or other, that coat pattern a bit familiar now. He caught one of the rocks going blank out of the corner of his eye, then looked up to see him fall into the river. Not a soul moved to try and help, could have been some lesson learned or other, but Funk didn't really care. The group only watched as he struggled before sinking.
"Well, it's about time. Guess his love was the bottom of Davey Jones locker." He laughed at his own joke, a bit too darkly as he got no reception. Funk sighed then straightened up, "I mean, funking hell." He pawed at the pile of stones, " t's a countdown to death, huh? Little off, but whatever. One mystery solved. Thanks... Reginald." Somewhere in there, he waved his tail towards the stream, some half baked show of respect. Not really. "I wonder who spread the rumor of the true love thing then. Or, really, where did they come from in the first place?"
