Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
Her fur raised a hint as she caught the stale, but still definite scent of fox in the air of the tunnel. It had been a day ago at least, but the realization that predators were pushing into caverns like this, ones she normally considered to be of the more safe variety, filled her with a sense of alarm. It was really the last thing the Regime needed right now too, a fox rushing into their caverns seemed like it would be the icing on the cake for all of their troubles.
Of course, for right now there wasn't much Landynna could do. The scent appeared to hint at the fox turning tail around this point, probably realizing that any deeper might have been not been worth the squeeze or the face-off with the scents of many cats that marked the area. She figured she'd just have to make note and hope that this was a one-off thing.
"So you caught the scent as well." For a cat with bright, light-blonde fur, it was almost frightening how well Gardenia Vellicorpse could blend into the shadows of the tunnels. The Origin stepped beside Landynna, her large, intimidating form towering over the other she-cat, staring past her and into the tunnel where the fox scent had retreated with a solemn expression. "It heartens me to know at least one solider is diligent enough to notice something was off around here," she continued, complimenting her companion in probably the most roundabout way possible. "Most of these new Scouts probably wouldn't be able to tell a fox scent from a hole in the ground. I swear, if my tykes end up in harm's way because of their incompetence..." Her voice trailed off with a growl. She had felt...torn lately, between wanting to stay as close to her little ones as possible to protect them, and wanting to immediately get back to her Sentinel duties so she could assure the safety of the tunnels herself.
Landynna had to force herself not to jump a bit when she heard the voice of the other she cat, she had been too focused on the scent of the fox and the implications to notice Gardenia in the shadows. However, she quickly relaxed when she realized the other she cat had been drawn out to the tunnel by the exact same thing, glad to know she wasn't alone in finding and being worried about the fox's scent. "Well, only good new is it's a stale scent, but you'd still like to think someone would have noticed by now. Especially since it's stale." Landynna agreed, a dry note of annoyance in her tone as she too considered how many cats had just casually walked past the scent that day, or even the day before, and never bothered to check it out.
"Unfortunately I don't think there's much that can be done about it right now. Other than notifying Commander Shule and keeping wary just in case it's not just a one time thing."
Gardenia didn't respond right away, instead staring down the tunnel, lost in thought. Just because the scent was stale didn't mean that the fox wouldn't return - it managed to get down here once already, and now that it knew about the tunnel system, it could just as easily return; by itself, or with enough friends to fight off a patrol and cause some real carnage. "We'll alert the Commander," she agreed, rising to her paws. But instead of turning around to head towards the HQ, she instead began padding down the long, dark tunnel. "But first we're closing off this entrance. Deter that Blind Protector-forsaken pest from ever getting back down here again. Come on, Landynna." It wasn't exactly an order that could be ignored; as a Sentinel and well-known former Superior, Gardenia vastly outranked the other she-cat.
