Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
Dragging a rabbit back to camp, Danlen found himself lost in his own thoughts, reminiscing over the past couple months and a couple ideas that came to his head. The tom had found recently he was pretty skilled at hunting, even though his training had lied elsewhere. He never regretted his job, after all, it had made his eldest brother proud and he had made a skilled mercenary with good fighting skills, but he'd found in the recent drought of prey with the entire regime having to put his hunting skills to good use, that he was perhaps a better hunter than he was a fighter.
The revelation had brought mixed feelings. Daniel was glad to be useful, proud to be carrying his weight when some others who were equally more familair with fighting tactics rather than hunting were falling behind, but the last thing the wanted was to be once again compared to his twin brother, who had chosen the path of scout for himself. Just the very thought of being mistaken for him again made the tom bristle slightly in annoyance.
"Ah! What a lovely catch~!" A fluffy white figure bounded up to Danlen's side as soon as he entered the Post, grinning up at him with sparkling green eyes. Nearly every cat in the Regime recognized Laela Escale - the small, dainty, and especially frail Raiser. Unable to hunt or fight, and plagued by a series of harsh medical conditions, it always seemed to be a surprise to most cats when she miraculously managed to survive the Leafbare, even more so with this year's dramatic lack of prey. Nevertheless, she seemed in high spirits as always. "Would you mind so terribly if I took that rabbit from you?" She asked politely, batting her eyes up at him like a young child. "It's almost time for the little ones to eat, and I'm on dinner duty today."
Snapping back out of his thoughts at the sight of the she cat, he gave a thankful dip of his head at the complement. Well, as best of a thankful dip of his head he could manage with a fairly large rabbit in his maw. It was only at the request the tom hesitated a bit, feeling a bit bad about not putting the prey on the fresh-kill pile to give every cat a fair shot at properly dividing the kill. However, he also reasoned if it was for the Tykes they'd eat first anyways, and he'd feel even worse if he set it down and it for some reason didn't get given to them as priority. So, he gently set the rabbit down and pushed it over to the Raiser.
"Oh, sure. I hope it will make a nice meal for them, it should hopefully be enough to fill stomachs for a while." Danlen said nonchalantly, now finally getting a moment to truly consider the she cat in front of him. He'd heard of Laela Escale, typically from group gossip and so such, but he couldn't remember ever talking to her. Maybe had seen her once or twice while visiting his sister who had been a raiser herself. So, a hint of curiosity awakened, he decided to at least try and start up a small conversation to get to know the she cat, so long as she wasn't in too much of a hurry to get on her way. "Oh, out of curiosity, how have the tykes and raisers been doing recently? My sister normally is in there so I get the news about it, but she got sick and only recently recovered, so I've been out of the loop." Danlen inquired casually.
"I'm sure they'll love the rabbit, and even more playing with the fluff when their bellies are full!" Laela chirped excitedly, as if she too would be batting around tufts of rabbit fur like snowflakes in the air, though as a Raiser she'd be more likely to use the extra down to line the Origins' nests, keeping them extra warm in the chilly underground. She bent down to pick up the rabbit, only pausing at Danlen's inquiry. "The tykes are doing just fine," she responded, lifting her head again to smile sweetly at him. "There aren't many tykes in the post right now; just the Starkfield and Vellicorpse litters, as well as the Eloy's tyke and Needletoes' tyke." While she had all of the individual tyke's names memorized, it was honestly easier to use the new family-name system when talking about them as a whole.
"It's mostly just me and Trevet holding down the post right now. Of course, Origin Gardenia is around quite often too; bless her heart, she's quite protective over her little ones, though they aren't so little anymore. Would you like to accompany me to Post Kilo and see for yourself? I'm sure the tykes would be thrilled to have a visit from a strong Mercenary."
