He crept sneakily, his ears flicked back nervously. But he couldn't smell any other scent around him. So gently he crept, until the fresh scent of air hit his lungs -- so used to the stagnant life below, it almost hurt. It was cold and bitter, with a biting harshness to it. And when he finally pulled himself up and out, he saw what it was that was so gossiped about. He had no idea where he was, but he was surrounded by thin pines, with sprinkling of snow here and there. The snow was clinging to the ground, and he wondered curiously. His sister had told him a story, once, about how it was rumored the Regime's tunnels stretched all under the Clans. A part of him laughed, but then again, this wasn't the wasteland he'd seen before.
The sky was lit with a dozen little, tiny light, and he inhaled sharply in surprise as he realized they were stars. Tavian had never wandered out at night -- it had always been in the wasteland, during the day. But now, surrounded by a beautiful moonlit pine clearing, with flakes beginning to melt against his fur, he couldn't help but be in awe. The silver tom flicked his curled ears, pale eyes reflecting back the milky splash of diamonds above him. "Wow," he breathed, his breath escaping in a cloud of white.
There was always a small tug that had pulled Eloise towards the surface. She had been born and raised in the underground, her entire life basically fed constant reasurrance that the tunnels and the below darkness was superior to the surface through her eldest brother. And yet, she was drawn to it like a moth to a flame. It wasn't exactly strange for her family, she knew most of her siblings had a strange attraction to it too, but unlike them she'd never had the urge to explore with the same almost chaotic energy they did. She preferred the calm and the quiet, and tonight was no different.
The tortoishell she cat had already decided to go for a short walk under the night sky, padding through the cold, winter landscape and just enjoying for a few moments the subtle beauty of the winter wonderland that the Regime could be. It was weird to think such beautiful seas of crystaline white that seemed to glitter and glow under the moons soft glow were often the reason for most of the Regime's hardships, the scarce prey and the low herb count an continuous problem for the group. Out here, it seemed so pristine, so uniquely pure.
The she cat was so lost in her own thought that she barely noticed the tom up ahead, and hesitated a bit when she saw another cat out on the surface at such a late hour of night. She figured they were friendly, a member of th Regime, but wariness still bit at her. She could barely catch a scent in the freezing cold, certainly not enough to tell friend or foe, and so instead she paused and watched; as curious about the fellow cat out with her under the cold and stars as she was anxious.

Tavian didn't seem to really notice her, eyes still glued to the sprinkle of white above him. He almost felt guilty, having not brought his sibling to the surface, or his friend. But Isla would have only been able to feel the cold, and Kazemir would simply cause a ruckus. With a small chuckle of amusement, he stood then and padded toward one of the trees, stretching up on his hindlegs to sniff at the base of the pine tree. It was weighted heavily with snow, and he probably should have known what would come next. As his nose brushed the base of the bristling needles, the tree suddenly shuddered with force. He gave a cry and a gasp of surprise, attempting to turn, before a rush of cold covered the top of his pelt. He froze in place form the utter chill now dusting his pelt, and found himself staring at another cat, watching him. If he could die of embarrassment, he probably would have then and there.
Eloise hesitated. A mixture of biting her tongue from laughing at the sight she couldn't help but find slightly hilarious, and the small hint of dread of being noticed by another cat she still couldn't recognize. She figured not laughing was probably the best reaction she could have, especially if the cat wasn't part of the regime, instead just opting to try and be as friendly and as quiet as possible, trying to pretend she didn't find the sight pretty funny. Instead, she just have a shy and slight wave of her tail in greeting, calling out a soft, "Are you okay?" That nearly got swallowed by the wind.

He shuddered against the cool on his pelt, nearly half submerged in the powdery substance. But at the sound of a voice he nearly froze in alarm, almost assuming he'd heard something. Had Isla somehow managed to find him in this? But his eyes fell upon another feline, and his body went less ridged. Tavian slowly pulled himself, sheepishly, from the snow and padded closer so that he could confirm with relief it was familiar Regime scent. "I'm okay," he finally responded, though the snow couldn't hide the embarrassment clearly on his face. "I mean, besides my pride. But that's no matter. I wasn't really expecting that to happen, or to find another soul out here besides me own."
"Ah, it could have happened to anyone." Eloise responded sympathetically, still trying to squash her amusement at the scene she'd witnessed prior. She too could finally catch a hint of the scent of the Regime on the tom's pelt, and even if she couldn't, his friendly demeanor quickly suggested the tom wasn't a random rogue. "I'm actually shocked it didn't happen to me. Looked like the kind of thing I would manage to do to myself."
