The calico feline had been padding easily through the caverns, strolling with no real purpose to her stride. She was lining the cavern walls with her bright green gaze, her ears flicking every once and a while when she heard the little screech of bats in the distance. It was her job to tend to the life and well being of prey here, in the Regime. To make sure that in turn, they wouldn't extinct what little food source they did indeed have. And so she startled slightly when she heard the light patter of noise. Something soft, hitting the ground ahead of her.
She walked carefully, her ears drawn back with a look of curiosity. When she saw the little fledgling before her, she felt a pain of pity. Good thing she had been walking here, and not some other feline. Gently, the she-cat turned to grab a soft looking leaf curling through the cracks of a small cavern area. When she was able to secure a large enough one, she padded back to the baby bird and ever so slowly -- carefully -- began to edge it onto the fond.
When it was safely on it, she gently bit both ends of the leaves, so that it cradled the little creature. She remembered something her mother had told her, about birds being able to scent when something had touched their baby. That they would think it wasn't theirs suddenly, and would cast it aside. She also grimly remembered that her mother would joke that if she were ever to wander away, her mother wouldn't recognize her and send her away. Shuddering, she pushed the thoughts away and clambered up the ledge with the bird cradled in the leaf. She made sure not to make any sudden movements, until she finally reached the woven nest of the mother. It was thankfully not there. Stooping low, she let it slide gently into the nest. And then, she leapt down, giving a satisfied nod.
It just so happened that Daniel had been padding through the same cavern passages. Not so much with the desitnation of where he was now in mind; this to him was just a intersection, a place to eventually end up where he wanted to be. In fact, the tom was eager to return to hunting, hoping to find another section of the cavern that would have better luck with prey as he manuvered through the complicated web of undeground systems that RR called home.
It was more by pure luck he managed to catch sight of the she cat, watching with mild confusion and curiosity as the feline did something -- though he couldn't see what --- with a leaf. It took him a while to even notice the nest, though once he did it confused him further. He waited till she was done, observant enough to notice the care in the she cats steps and not wanting to break her concentration, but once she seemed finished he padded closer with a careful step. "What were you doing?" The inquiry was gentler than the more judgemental phrasing would have implied, as the tom's eyes flicked from the nest to the she cat in tacit indication he had witnessed what she'd been doing prior.

Her pelt prickled with surprise as she saw the tom, feeling her fur flash with embarrassment. Ducking her head, she slunk away from the ledge and cast a glance behind her shoulder, the insistent chirping cries from the fledgling all but ceasing now that it was safe. The large calico she-cat regarded him for a moment, before giving him a sheepish half-smile. "I'm from the farming job, so it's my duty to... well..." she trailed off and flicked her tail back towards the bird nest. "I need to ensure that what little prey within these tunnels remains stocked. We can survive without the survival of our food, right?"
Daniel really had no clue what the farming job of the guiders implied. He had known well enough his brother's job when he had been a guider, but he didn't have the faintest idea what the job of the "new" guiders did. It was really just a matter of him taking her word for it, and he wasn't about to fight the she cat over knowing her own job. He assumed that if she said it was what she was suppose to be doing, then it was likely what she was suppose to do. So, in reaction, he gave a slow nod.
"I'm guessing then that it fell out? And that's what the leaf was for?" Daniel asked, trying to at least slightly put together in his mind what he had seen the she cat do.

Circe offered him a half-smile, her eyes shining with amusement. She'd been offered reluctant looks in her duties before, so it didn't phase her all that much. Giving a small nod, she indicated to the leaf and said, "Yeah, it was supposed to be for the baby bird. I'm not sure if its entirely true, but my mother told me about how if a baby bird falls from their nest and gets different scents on it, the mother won't take it back into its nest. Kind of sad, right?"
Daniel gave a small nod, recalling hearing something along the lines of that once as well from his brother. Although, he'd also equally heard from his brother that said statement was a myth and that most birds couldn't in fact smell for anything, so he had to bite his tongue at hearing the other she cat's claim. Though, he figured to be fair, it was probably better safe that sorry; just in case the bird happened to be a species with a sense of smell and decided to just completely abandon the nest from cat meddling.
So, the tom proceeded to give her a small, if not entirely authentic, sympathetic nod. "Ah, yes, it is. It's probably for the best you used the leaf then, probably less stress for the baby bird as well." Danlen said in feigned agreement.

She raised a brown at him with a slightly amused expression; she'd been around for a handful of seasons, so she'd gotten better at reading others throughout the years. With an small shrug she discarded the leaf and watched as it flitted away, down into the darkness. "Anyways, that's my job. Making sure the animals are taken care of so that we don't loose our precious supply of prey. Or, at least, that's what I've been told to do. Who knows, maybe everyone is just hazing me," Circe commented, giving him a small and playful wink. "What are you doing out here, then? I usually don't see many cats coming this way."
