Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
Sean and Commander Shule sat at the gateway to the prison, their paws had not yet stepped foot into the prisoners den. But that prisoner was their son, usually he was smart to not return. Even better he hadn't ever wanted to, which kept him safe from judgment, but today he was found respectfully waiting at the borders for them. Given Kotori's past as a serial killer he was placed in prison immediately without being allowed to speak to anyone. Because of this no one knew exactly why he had returned.
"We don't know if he's going to play nice only to turn on us and many would still want justice or in other words execution for what he did. Personally I think Flamingstar may have brought him in to earn our trust and spy on us. But if that's the case Zakiyyah must not know about this," Sean said thoughtfully. Kotori had killed everyone on his "wish list" except for him so it wasn't good news that he was here like it would be if Zakiyyah had come.

"He wouldn't hurt you with me around." Shule stated. Though of course she knew that might not be the case if she wasn't actually there. "For that matter, Kotori wouldn't hurt me, even with the opportunity. We should at least hear him out, figure out what it is he wants. Maybe you could find Zakiyyah and see if his story checks out. She might not even know where he is, and in that case, she might even come to use, sooner or later." This wasn't the first time she's met Kotori, so she wasn't concerned for herself. Between talking to Tigerlily and the creation of the trade alliance with NightClan, if her son had wished harm on her in particular, he would have had more than enough chance to do it. Shule had never been as close to Zakiyyah, but though she had left to join Kotori, she hadn't actually done anything, that anyone could tell, to the Regime.
Of course many cats would want him dead. Even if he was honest and good in intentions, Shule was put in a hard place as to whether or not to execute him. There were plenty of cats that would cheer on his death. If she let him go, she might have a rebellion on her paws. An attempt at one at least. "Once we hear from him, we can try and piece together a better plan, and figure out what to do about him." She didn't want to start a war with NightClan by pissing off Flamingstar, but she couldn't very well let Kotori walk out of here, or just believe him outright. "No promises of anything but to hear him out for now. Give ourselves time to regroup after, and keep him in prison until we can make a real plan."
If Kotori was anyone else, Shule would probably have been a lot more harsh, but as always, she struggled to do what she'd do for anyone else when it was her son.
"I wasn't always a good person, but I surrounded myself with good people. Kotori hasn't ever done that. I'm worried he'll have stayed the same or gotten worse, but I guess it's time to find out," Sean reasoned.
Walking in Kotori's head shot up right away, "Mom," He said, his voice breaking. As usual Sean may as well be invisible in the room. His eyes watered, but he wiped his face, "I had kits with Flamingstar and they're missing. A warrior there chased me out, he thinks I had something do with it. And now I can't go back onto NightClan's territory to look for them anymore." This time no matter how many tears he wiped he couldn't stop them from rolling down his cheek and across his neck, "They were on a walk... Flamingstar said she turned around for just a few moment and they were gone. If I just look a little harder I can find them if someone would just help me," He said weakly.
No one had been helping him look for his kits except for Zakiyyah. Everyone was so certain that he had something to do with it that they were instead focusing their attention on getting a confession out of him. He wished Flamingstar would care more, but she hardly missed them, moved on more quickly than he ever could.
Shule nodded slightly, before stepping in alongside Sean. It broke her heart, hearing the pain in Kotori's voice, but the Commander forced her expression to remain neutral as she sat down a foxlength away from him. "Be honest with me, Kotori. Did you have something to do with it?" She forced herself to ask it, meeting her son's tears with a calm look to her own. Shule absolutely despised the fact that this was a consideration she even had to make, and truly, she didn't think he would have done this. But she needed to hear him say it.
Kotori swallowed his tears and shook his head, sniffling for a moment he tried to reply, but the words wouldn't come out, finally he was able to compose himself, "No I didn't have anything to do with their disappearance. They've been gone for so long, I've let down every one of my litters, I'm never there for them," He said, his voice breaking at the thought.
Sean looked surprised, he expected crocodile tears, but he'd never seen Kotori look so pathetic. Even in situations when he was clearly outnumbered, when things were at his lowest Kotori always preserved his composure to be prideful. Here though he was a sobbing mess, he sounded like he would say or do just about anything for them to help him. He walked over licking the side of Kotori's face for the first time in years as he helped clean up the tears, "It'll be o-"
Kotori had immediately leaned into him, burying his face his fathers chest catching Sean by surprise to the point that he flinched at the physical contact before realizing his son had embraced him. He looked back up at Shule in a, oh-my-gosh-this-is-happening look before taking time to enjoy the moment that Kotori wasn't being completely abrasive.
Shule was shocked. Not by his declaration that he didn't have anything to do with their disappearance. She expected such a response, and more than that, she truly believed him. But the fact Kotori was actually embracing his father, rather than trying to murder him, was an utter surprise, and it showed when she stared, mouth half open, at the pair.
A moment later, however, she did manage to catch herself, rising to her paws and sitting next to Sean, her tail brushing gently along Kotori's spine in a comforting, rhythmic motion. Truly, she didn't have any words, at least for the moment. She couldn't lie and say he her son had been the best father, when she really didn't know the most of his kits, not that the ones he had necessarily contradicted his own point anyway. What she did know was that she wanted to help him... she just wasn't sure about the particulars.
Sean didn't particularly know how to comfort Kotori. He wanted to say he understood the feeling, that his first litter was taken from him, but he couldn't. He wouldn't be able to handle Kotori talking about Anansi, not when he murdered him, when he didn't have the right to be comforted using the person he killed. "We'll leave you in here tonight, you'll be fine though," Sean said, pulling away from the hug first. He never thought Kotori would ever love him, so it never struck him to even consider forgiving Kotori for everything he did. Now that he was in that moment he realized he wasn't close to being ready. He couldn't be a good dad to Kotori if he kept wondering how much better everyone's lives would have been without his son, so it wasn't worth trying.
Sean walked out of the prison, but tried to keep an eye on Shule for her safety. After all Kotori seemed harmless, but he clearly wasn't, his guess was that he Kotori was capable of "going dark" more successfully than anyone else in the family.

There were times Shule wondered if she could have her normal family back. Well, as normal as Eeries could get, anyway. But she could see the look in Sean's eyes as he passed her, see her son in this prison, and know that it would never truly be possible. Fate would always have a way to keep her from that. Some days she thought it would have been better if she never became friends with Sean at all, just stayed her good little soldier, save herself from the heartache.
With Sean behind her, she leaned into Kotori for a long moment. "I believe you." Her voice was soft, so much so it would be hard for even Sean to make out exactly what she said, if he could hear it at all. But she was telling the truth, she didn't believe he had anything to do with his kits' disappearance. Which wasn't much of a comfort, all things considered, but even so, she hoped her belief in him would perhaps help a little, if nothing else. Give him hope that maybe she would help find his kits.
Kotori had vines looped around his snout into a muzzle so he could just barely open his mouth to speak. His legs had thick woven roots from bushes linking his legs together at enough of a distance for him to walk, but not run. Attached to either side of Kotori's face were leaf blinders, which clearly weren't working as one literally just fell off without any amount of wind.
"See, we can still go on family walks, we don't have to worry that he's going to kill our family members. Then if all goes good then maybe we can take off the muzzle and the shackle bits and then maybe prison. It's a process, but I think if we work at it as a family we can work up to the point we were at," Sean said hopefully to Shule before adding, "And he's excited for it," He said pointing to Kotori.
Kotori blinked as though not preparing for that statement before slowly wagging his tail like a dog, not knowing any other way to show himself happily agreeing. Not that he particularly wanted this, but at the end of the day Sean and him both loved Shule. If it took him having to wear all of this to get normalcy back for his mom while also providing enough trust with his parents for them to help him then it would be worth it.

Kotori didn't really need to convince Shule to help. She already planned on it, though that was more an internal decision than having actually talked to Sean or anyone about it. The white pawed Commander thought the getup might be... a bit much, though she understood Sean's reasoning. "Perhaps we should loosen the vines just a little bit around his mouth so he can talk?" She suggested. He seemed excited for the outing, or at least happy enough to spend time with her.
Kotori fumbled with his paws a bit, but obviously couldn't lift them up to his muzzle from the way his legs were tied.
"I got it," Sean said moving beside Kotori. He carefully loosened up the muzzle until he was certain his son could speak without much of an obstacle.
Fumbling with his paws once more Kotori looked up at Sean, "Thank-you dad," He said with a clearly forced tone, but he was trying.
Taking a few cautious paces he managed to get his footing to walk up to his mom. It wasn't really until this moment that he realized just how long term he had messed up. Years had past, commanders had come and gone, but his violence followed him. He wasn't allowed to live a normal life at home anymore, he took that away from himself, but really who he felt bad for was his mom who had to deal with it.
"We can just walk around here, we don't have to go out in public," Kotori said more so for his mothers dignity than his own.

Shule appreciated Kotori trying. Though seeing her son, she did quietly more for days and normalcy gone by. She often wished she could just have... not necessarily a normal family, but that she could have all her kits hang out for a day, and not have to worry that someone would try to kill Kotori, that kits of hers like Cinnamonsavage wouldn't look at her like a stranger. It was more a sadness for loss of what could have been than anything.
She shook her head slightly. "I think you've been cooped up long enough. May as well make the most of the getup and let you get some proper exercise." It wasn't really her own reputation she cared about. The Commander was probably more concerned about someone trying to murder him while he was bound up like this than she cared that someone might take her letting Kotori out of prison for a stroll.
