Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
(A few days have passed since SunClan attacked SwiftClan in their home. They had been badly outnumbered, and so many cats were dead by the time Chimerastar returned to camp with MoonClan enforcements. Five deaths and a few hostage kits later, the matter was resolved, and SunClan left. After everyone's injuries were patched Chim led the clan away from their camp, leaving behind their nests and most of the herbs they couldn't carry. They've been traveling since then, a little more each day.)
When they found the temporary camp for the night on the crest of a flat hill cradled by the tall dark deciduous trees, Chim didn't speak to his clanmates; he went straight into the minimal shade of a blackberry bush and curled up beneath it. He would have stayed there if his father hadn't come down from the stars and convinced him he had to speak up.
As night fell and the moon rose above, he quietly padded out of his bush and sat down in front of it, his head tipped back slightly. Between the trees, he could see the moon, nearly full again. If he had known to look closer, he could have seen Jupiter, Saturn, and Mars beginning to align in the sky.
"SwiftClan," he began, his voice rough and uneven after so many days of little use, "we have mourned for our lost family for several long nights. They will always be in our hearts but they are at our sides no longer, and we must move on. SunClan drove us from our home once, but never again."
He searched the crowd for Interpidsoul's gaze, then Demonicchicken. Both toms had been invaluable to him, and they alone would know what he was going to say next. "Never again, because from this day on, SwiftClan will have no home for more than a moon or two. We've lived on the move before, and we will again, never resting, never staying still. No clan, no flood, will ever hurt us again. Some of our cats have lived as travelers before, and together we've created a new position to help guide SwiftClan. We're calling these cats Scouts, and they're going to keep us all safe from tragedies like this last attack."
Chim paused, but he didn't go further into detail about the new position. Instead, he sighed heavily. "But I cannot continue without first addressing what happened. Some of you may be wondering why SunClan decided to steal kits from SwiftClan when we don't live nearby. I would be remiss in my duties if I didn't tell you the truth. One of our own cats cursed and murdered their holy Sun God. StarClan alone will judge the responsible cats justly." His cold, bitter gaze fixed on Firetooth, but reluctantly he moved on. He would never forgive the medicine cat for what he had done, but that was not what he came here to say.
"Remember, our clanmates are not our enemy. SunClan hunted us down, stole our cats, and slaughtered our families in revenge. They were the ones to commit this crime. You should blame SunClan for what happened… and me. I know you are all angry that SunClan took some of our kits back to their clan, and I am as well, but it was our only option. I had to protect our clan. But it is my fault that SunClan had the chance to do as much damage as they did. I should have moved the clan as soon as I knew they were coming. I found MoonClan, the sworn enemy of the Sun, and convinced them to help us, but I was too late. Don't blame anyone else for what happened; it was my responsibility as a leader."
The words were difficult to say, and it was plain to the whole clan. Their leader was grieving still, but he had to swallow his own pain and step up to be a leader. No cat could have reasonably expected him to move the clan faster, SunClan had come to attack them only days after the gathering, and he had fetched reinforcements as quickly as possible. There was nothing else he could have done, he had reacted to the news as quickly as possible; after all, Firetooth had not warned him beforehand that he was going to incur the wrath of the strongest clan in the forest. Firetooth had not considered the consequences of murdering the Sun God and publicly shaming him, had not cared if the enemy clan came to kill them all in revenge. Yet Chim accepted the blame anyway, claimed responsibility for events that had been hidden from him, for decisions he could not control.
"I've gathered you here today to apologize for my mistakes, and to ask for another chance. I have given you my best, but it was not enough. I understand if you no longer want me in charge, and I won't stay if the clan wants to move on." He took a deep breath. "SwiftClan, do you want me to step down as leader?"
Beestripe's ears perked up in alarm. He stepped forward before any other cat could, lashing his tail in anxiety. "Chimerastar, you can't abandon us. Not after our losses." The deputy turned to face the others of his new clan, examining all of their faces. "There was nothing more Chim could have done."
A brown queen was hovering protectively over her kit. The ordeal had been so awful and she'd just lost her two adopted kits. Brownie's heart was hardened, but against the whole forest, not against her clan leader. "He's being absurd," she said crossly to Beestripe before turning to Chimerastar. "Of course we don't want you to step down. We need you to lead us."

"You're pretty pathetic, aren't you, Chimerastar?" Evelyn was one of the first to speak up, along with the deputy and queen, and if the ex-Regime cat could roll her eyes any harder, she would. "Are you really just going to roll over and moan about a defeat? I'd ask if you're always so whiny, but I'm pretty sure I already know the answer." It probably wasn't surprising that a cat from such a militant group found his response lacking. "Do I need to knock some sense into you, or are you capable of stopping this 'woe is me' drama without my help?"
Seapaw sat listening to everything their leader said, the emotion in his words swirling around her but it wasn't until he asked if he should step down that she jumped to her paws, joining in with the others that had already spoken. "You can't do that, and if there is anyone here that thinks otherwise they are mouse-brained! You are our leader, Chimerastar." She paused before lifting her head a little higher, as if asking for someone to try and argue with her, she was small but fierce and despite her small and fragile looks she wasn't one to back down.
Beetail's support was expected, his deputy couldn't afford to speak out against him. He was glad that Brownie and Seapaw had his back still, and he made a mental note to thank them for it later, though he had hoped someone would. He couldn't control what happened, but he had to give his clan this chance.
He still wasn't sure that included Evelyn, but here she was.
"I'm perfectly capable of leading the clan longer," he replied calmly, "but cats must face justice, and if the clan decides my time is now, so be it."

Caminowinds had remained silent from the back of the gathering listening to his clan mates express their support for Chinerastar. Were leaders not allowed to make mistakes once in a while? He rose to his paws, “If every leader was expected to be perfect than no clan would have a leader!” He meowed loudly to be heard. “I support you remaining our leader Chimerastar.” He meowed before sitting back down.
Firetooth sat in the far back, his normally fiery ginger pelt dirty and unkempt from several days of non-stop traveling. He felt himself bristle as Chimerastar's harsh gaze burned into him, while revealing what most of the clan already knew he had done. The Medicine Cat would never apologize for it; he obviously felt guilty for underestimating Bloodyrondo's malice and desire to punish an entire clan for one cat's actions, but he would never apologize for doing what was right. Upon hearing Chim's question, he blinked in surprise before letting out a growl of annoyance. "For the love of- you're a complete mousebrain, you know that, right? You've given no cat here any reason to doubt your leadership. We may never see eye to eye, Chimerastar, but you're better than the rest of them combined."
Tinybreath smiled at Chimerastar, the petite black she-cat rolling her eyes in fond exasperation at his speech. "Always one for dramatics, aren't you, brother? I've followed you this far, haven't I? I'm not about to give up on you now."
Sliprabbit leapt to her paws, flinching slightly at the motion after injuring her shoulder during the battle days prior. The wound would probably leave a scar, but one she'd wear proudly for how hard she fought for her clan. "Never, uncle Chim! I'll stand with you no matter what!" She grinned brightly at the Swiftclan leader, and for a brief moment the young she-cat looked identical to her late mother.
"That's not true, Beestripe," Steepfall's harsh voice rose from the crowd, which would come as no surprise to Chimerastar, his black-furred nephew had always been extremely critical of the leader's actions, "SwiftClan's defenses were nonexistent. Had Chimerastar established a border and enforced it with patrols, even if that border was temporary, we would have seen the SunClan patrol coming and been able escape before they fully entered the territory. Instead, Chimerastar ran off is seek of help from another Clan who knows how to do that, which was greatly appreciated but not enough. Cats died. Kits were stolen. And your 'solution' is to move camp more frequently?! I understand why you do it, I really do, but we have got to develop stronger defenses! What's so bad about finding a home and establishing borders anyway, like everyone else?"
Steepfall was among one fo the most viciously wounded in the attack. Beestripe had been focused on protecting the nursery and Chimerastar was gone, so he had stepped up, directly cats to flee and protecting them all the while, painting a huge target on his back. His body was covered in all kinds of scratches, most of which were still open and oozing, as there just were not enough herbs available to treat him. He was tough, though. Standing up at his full height with his tail straight up in the air, Steepfall was still a force to be reckoned with, and as intimidating as they came.
Ophelia didn’t know what to think. Her kits were still here and she wasn’t that new to the clan to have not lost some friends. But still, she wasn’t sure what to think. She was still in shock from the whole ordeal to be honest. But hearing Steepfall speak up, she began to question things. The she-cat had no idea about clan life before SwuftClan, only really didn’t know about patrols and borders, so to hear that they were a thing astonished her greatly. Could that have helped? They were such a small coma that would they have ever stood a chance against SunClan?
Meanwhile another queen stood up form beside the temporary nursery, her voice small, her demon er smaller, but she spoke her words with truth and honesty. “I’ll stand beside Chinerastar!” Lamb looked to her mate for reassurance that she was doing the right thing. Beside her Lovepaw, who’d only come back a day ago from her exchange in SummerClan with her own litter of kits, bristled with anger. How dare Steepfall stand against the amazing Chimerastar! “I will follow him until the end of the world! Through the underworld and back if I must! Chimerastar has been amazing organizing all of us form nothing all this Elon’s ago. He pulled together those lost and forgotten in the Great Flood and brought us together. There’s no way I’d leave him now!”

Slaughterfish smacked Steepfall on the head, hard, sitting to the side of him. She was a recent addition, well, she had been in WaterClan, and was Steepfall's brother, but regardless. She'd joined SunClan, only to turn on them the last moment in the battle with SwiftClan to help out her brother. Did the clan trust her? Probably not, but she was family to many, and she doubted her littermate would throw her out. "Oh shut up, Steepfall. If you seriously think that at all would have helped against SunClan, you're an absolute idiot. SunClan has at least double the cats in SwiftClan. I should know. There is no way you'd have effectively stopped it. They have the resources and bodies to pursue you to the ends of the world if they wanted to, and there's only so quickly you can move kits in the first place." She wasn't about to say there was nothing Chimerastar could have done. Her uncle could have prepared better, definitely. But finding an ally to bring in more bodies was definitely not the worst thing he could have done. Jadie

Intrepidsoul listened to everyone around him before he spoke out. "Chimerastar I remember the talk we had even though it seems so long ago. You know where my feeling are. We all make mistakes we cannot unfix but learn from. You have been a good leader and doing the best you can. Chimerastar I will say this now: I shall remain by your side and Swiftclans until my dying breath. My home is with the clan, and not in a single spot. The day will come when justice will be fully served for our fallen...you as leader to help serve it shall bring you redemption too. We will survive this. We will prevail. We must not give up. Chimerastar I will do whatever it takes to snap you out of this. You can't fall into this pit...this hole of misery. Stand up and show us the proud and fearless leader I know YOU can be."The tome quickly added," I of course volunteer to be scout. I suffered non life threatening injures and will give you my energy that I have to offer."
The grey and silver tabby had only received topical wounds such as a the tip of his ear being torn as well as a long but not deep gash arcoss the bridge of his nose and a few small gashes here and there along his body. He was sore sure but he had had worse injuries in his life and counted his blessings he had survived the attack. The tom had only wished he could have done more himself. Therefore he would throw himself to help protect and serve the clan the best he could now.

"Well said," Shatteredshine chirped to Intrepidsoul, looking him over approvingly. She sat between him and her sister Sliprabbit, chin raised and fluffy fur puffed out. The battle had been difficult for her and beneath her long fur, she was bruised and battered with a thousand tiny scratches. She had been lucky. She would have some scars and was on rest until her bruised lung recovered, but it would have been much worse if the battle didn't end when it did. "I'll stand with you too, Uncle Chim!"
Firetooth's support was unexpected. Chim stared at him for a moment longer. What game was he playing here, undermining him and breaking his trust, causing this fight, and then stepping in and claiming he still supported him? Anger flashed in the back of his gaze, and his jaw tightened. It was only the rest of the clan's presence that kept him from saying more to him.
"If we had set borders, we would have to patrol them," he reminded Steepfall, turning to face him now. "That takes even more cats out of camp. If SunClan had attacked while our warriors were all our on patrols, we would have been doomed. Slaughterfish is right, we were far too outnumbered for borders to make a difference." Not for the first time, he wondered why his nephew had bothered to come to the clan at all if he disagreed with so many of Chim's decisions. He suspected no other clan wanted to harbor a SunClan runaway right now.
"Thank you all for your support," Chim concluded, once more looking down at Intrepidsoul. The tom had helped reassure him that this plan was going to work, and his continued support almost made the leader smile. "I would be honored to have you as a scout, Intrepidsoul."

Intrepidsoul gave a small nod as he accepted his new position. The tom was happy that Wintershine, Chimerastar, Brownie, and Ophelia survived the slaughter but of course mourned the clans losses. What he said was what he felt: one day justice would seek its claws into the perpetrators and one day they may find a place to settle down in. For now others needed to heal and learn to adjust to traveling on the road. This wouldn't bother Intrepidsoul, after all before joining the clan he himself was a lone walker on unknown paths he took until it lead him here. He'd support his clan brethren and make sure they were back to physical health.

"Even if we had done everything right, yes, I agree we would not have been able to beat SunClan. However, I also believe that there would have been significantly less loss in life and in kits had we had taken up rudimentary precautions...," Steepfall knew there was no point in dragging out this argument, so he cut himself off. At least he'd given his two cents. No cat could say that he hadn't tried, but at heart the black-furred tom was more of a follower than a leader, so he would continue living with Chimerastar's decisions whether he liked them or not.
