It was sun-high and the air was still cold--as was the norm in WinterClan. Still, Snowkit wondered what Greenleaf felt like for the other clans. He squinted up at the sun for a moment and then ducked his head in alarm. His eyes hurt! "Ow," he groaned as he buried his face into some snow. Once they no longer felt strained, he sighed and looked around himself. No one in camp seemed to notice what just happened. Not even the other kits seemed to notice. Most of them were busy talking about the ceremony the next day would bring. Just another conversation he couldn't join in. After tomorrow, the nursery would be as empty for Snowkit as it felt.
(Sorry this took longer than I thought it would. I lost power on Tuesday and just got it back.)
Emris wondered the same thing about summer in the other Clans. She spent the first few moons of her life living in the desert, so she knew what oppressive heat felt like, but WinterClan's never ending cold surprised her. Despite some of the snow melting, the morning air never lost its bite here. She missed that about her former home, but her mother dropped her off here for a reason, and she would never abandon her brother. Speaking of him, she wanted to play. Well, more wrestle to the ground. Same difference. The snow-bengal swiveled her ears in search of Kvalun, so she heard Snowkit behind her when he looked into the sun. She blinked her eyes open and readied herself before leaping backwards onto Snowkit thinking he was her brother.

(It's okay! Good to hear you got it back.)
Snowkit yelped as something collided with his back and with flailing limbs he crashed facefirst into the snow. He tried to heave himself back to his paws, but a weight kept him down. What's going on? Turning his head to the side, he managed to catch sight of another kit pinning him down. She was bigger than him and probably a night away from a promotion, but he'd seen her in the nursery before. Although, they'd never interacted with one another before. So it was safe to say he had no idea why she had attacked(?) him. Did he do something to upset her?
"Whatever I did, I apologize," he said cautiously.
As soon as she made contact with the other kitten, Emris knew she messed up. Hitting her brother was like running into a wall. The kitten she jumped on gave like a blade of grass in the breeze. Whatever. She'd have to teach this one how to wrestle. No big deal. She rolled of him so she was just off to his right. She flicked her ears and wriggled her haunches playfully. "Come on." Her eyes were wrought with the mischief her brother dreaded, but she thrived on it.

After she'd moved off of him, he slowly lifted himself to his paws. His eyes stayed glued to her as he turned to face the she-kit. She looked happy, which was confusing to him. Five moons in the nursery and not one kitten had ever tried to play with him before. Was that what she wanted? To play? Blue eyes squinting and head tilted to one side, he watched as Emris wriggled in front of him. "Come on what?" Snowkit asked, not understanding what she was referring to.
She tilted her head to the side again. Why was he so slow to get up? They had things to do! She hopped side to side on her hand legs as she got ready for her next little tussle with the kitten. "Come on." She jumped towards him again, this time landing just in front of him. The challenge in her gaze was unmistakable. She swatted at his nose with her claws sheathed. "Play!"

Oh! She really did want to play. "Alright," he said with a nod of understanding. He'd seen kits play rough before, but since he'd never participated he wasn't sure how well he would do. Still, he couldn't say no. He had to try. Snowkit crouched as she had done earlier, allowing his belly fur to just graze the ground. Still straight-faced, he launched himself at Emris with his forepaws stretched out. He had the mind to keep his claws sheathed too.
She smiled as he nodded. He wasn't going to be a fight like her brother, but it was gonna be a start. Practice anywhere never hurt. Being a kit herself, she just charged head on into the leaping foe. She hear the thud of the their heads knocking together as they went down in a tumble.

He grunted from the pain of their collision and as they tumbled over, his vision seemed a bit spotty. Not wanting one hit to be the end of him though, Snowkit flailed his limbs as much as he could and managed to whack the she-kit across the cheek with his paw.
The collision did a number on the she-kit as well. Her ears rung from the force of it as she hit the ground and rolled with Snowkit. His flailing paws came as no surprise to the Emris. He clearly had never fought before, so it seemed like the only logical thing to do. Still, flailing paws did damage. She grunted as he nailed her across the cheek as she herself started kicking at his stomach with her hind legs.

Squealing at the barrage of kicks against his sensitive underbelly, Snowkit struggled to roll away from her. Receiving a fair number of blows from Emris before he'd rolled onto his paws in a defensive position, he couldn't help but wonder why kits played like this. It could be quite painful! With a quick flick of his tail, the snowshoe tom tackled the she-kit with his weight thrown forward. A gargled battle cry shot from his mouth along the way.
Emris was also tiring from the fight. Her breathing was sharp and uneven as she felt the other kit slide out from underneath her. She let out a sigh of relief and thought the tom was maybe giving up. She thought that too soon. She took her time getting to her paws, so she was completely unprepared for the tom's tackle. He knocked the wind out of her as she hit the ground, this time with her paws flailing.

Seeing Emris's paws flailing, Snowkit felt a surge of pride. So he'd been right to use the same technique earlier! His fighting instincts must have been really great. Knocking her down seemed easier than before though and with her heavy breathing, Snowkit pulled himself off of her. Panting, he squinted at Emris with his still blank face. "You're quite strong for someone so small." Never mind that he was slightly smaller than her and had nothing to compare her skills to.
How could she lose? She had so much more experience fighting her brother, and then she lost to some random kit!? The she-cat rolled away from him and became hot with embarrassment. She sighed again and looked over her shoulder back to the tom. Emris's breathing was still ragged and sharp. "Shut up." Tail between her legs, she lashed her tail and padded away from him.

Snowkit froze at her harsh response and watched in confusion as she began walking away. What? Had he done something wrong? Hadn't she wanted to play in the first place? And he had done what he thought she'd wanted the whole time... Normally, the tom would have listened to Emris and stayed behind, but with adrenaline in his veins, he couldn't help but pad along after her. "Wait!" he called. "Why are you upset?"
She hissed under her breath and turned around. "I should win!" She sat down and drummed her paw on the ground. She could beat her brother, who was far more skilled and bigger than her. "I should win!" Emris twirled back around and lashed her tail. "I can beat you..." Emris narrowed her eyes at the other cat a readied herself again.

He still couldn’t comprehend why she was so upset. Snowkit had never fought with anyone before, and had just been reacting to her movements and not really thinking. He didn’t know if he really “won” anything and he didn’t feel like he had. His belly still felt awful and the rest of him would ache the next day. “But we were just playing?” He said with the tilt of his head. “In a real fight, you’d almost certainly defeat me.”
"I know! But, I lost." She growled lightly and waved her tail just above the ground. She couldn't lose again, and she wouldn't. A few claws here and there would make sure of that. She unsheathed the claws on her forepaws and dug them into the ground. She knew it was forbidden to use her claws in a practice fight on an opponent, but she could use them on the earth. "Fight me again."
A pair of amber eyes poked from the nursery, and watched the pair with curiosity.

Snowkit shifted uncomfortably at the she-cat's intense need to have a rematch, and seeing her claws did little to reassure him. Misreading their presence, he wondered if he was also meant to unsheathe his and use them for their next fight. He thought it was forbidden, but maybe he'd misheard... "Are you sure you want to do this?" he asked, but there was a hardness to his tone that revealed he wouldn't back down from the challenge even if he was already in pain.
"Yes." With that the young she-cat launched herself at the younger tom, but never reached her target. A dark colored blur knocked the she-cat away in mid-air and brought her to the ground. The charcoal bengal rolled off the snow bengal as they hit the ground and staggered away. He cast an apologetic glance to Snowkit before returning his gaze to Emris.
Emris whirled around to face the newcomer, and was surprised to see it was her brother. She was seething as her brother turned around to face her. "Asgali yo otes?" She turned back to Snowkit. "This is not over!"
