In the instant that Emris launched herself at Snowkit, he'd unsheathed his claws even before he could properly prepare the rest of himself. His eyes widened in surprise though, as another kit crashed into her mid-air and brought her to the ground. He noticed that they were both bengals and wondered if they were siblings. He'd definitely seen the tom around, but he wasn't good at keeping up with who was related to who. The glance sent his way only made Snowkit more confused. Why did the kit appear apologetic when there was nothing to be sorry for?
"This is not over!"
Unfazed by Emris's shouting, the snowshoe tom staggered over to the newcomer. "Excuse me. Why did you tackle Emris? She doesn't appear to be happy about it."
Kvalun looked glanced back at Snowkit. "I... had to stop her." It sounded more dramatic than he wanted, but he couldn't think of another way to say it. "I saw her claws. They hurt." He gestured to his flank with his tail, and there were quite a few scratch marks, new and old, running up a down it. He turned back to his sister. "Dhuweq yi yaf nokes yo yoma. Aka'it yosed yo semasema ve'ar."
She lashed her tail and dug her feet into the snow. How dare he? She glanced back at Snowkit. "He's saying that I always start fights. That is not true, right?"

Blue eyes followed the gesture down to Kvalun's flank and they widened a fraction as he noted the scratches. They looked painful and Snowkit began to understand why the tom would have stopped her. Though, he wasn't sure if he necessarily agreed with the action. He'd never seen another kit break up a play-fight before, but maybe he was too new to the subject to judge. "I see..." His ears twitched as the tom spoke in what he could only describe as made-up words. Looking between the two, he noticed a clear understanding on Emris's face and scrunched his own up in confusion.
After a moment, the she-kit translated for him and finally, he realized that they knew another language. Relaxing his expression once again to its blank state, he contemplated the question posed his way. "I don't know you well enough to say, but you did technically start our fight today."
She rolled her eyes. "Well, yes, but I did not just fight you. I asked. You said 'yes'. And we fought." Kvalun opened his mouth to say something but Emris beat him to it with a sharp glare. "Before you say anything, what you interrupted was part of the fight. Not my fault." She loved her brother, she really did, but she did not appreciate this side to him, even if part of the she-cat knew that he was doing the right thing. Claws were forbidden for a reason, at least until they became apprentices.
Kvalun just lashed his tail and glanced at Snowkit. "You wanted claws?"

He supposed she was right about asking, but only after she had tackled him out of nowhere. Unless he had given her permission without knowing it, Snowkit didn’t fully agree with what she was saying. His icy eyes stared at her for a long moment, as if hoping to pry out a further explanation, but his attention was diverted once Kvalun spoke again. Ears flicking and brow furrowing, the snowshoe tom wondered why the kit appeared so concerned for him. “Is it not customary for kits to use their claws while playing?”

He shook his head. "No." He glanced over to his sister, who turned away to avoid meeting Kvalun's eyes. "Never." She was caught, and she knew it. Kvalun knew that she would probably explode later, but that wasn't Snowkit's problem. It was his as her brother, and he had dealt with it plenty of times before. "Jezor yinam." Emris glared at him one more time before lashing her tail and walking off. Anyone could tell that she was seething just by how she walked.
Kvalun turned his attention back to Snowkit. "What is your name?"

Caught off guard by his answer, Snowkit’s gaze wandered back to Emris. If kits didn’t play with unsheathed claws, then why would she? Was she really so angry about losing their “fight”? He had thought they were only playing, but apparently he had misread some of what had occurred. Even though the bruises hidden beneath his fur throbbed as a reminder of how rough they’d fought, he felt sad to see her go. Despite confusing him greatly, Emris was the first kit to ever play with him... Yet, as she stalked off, the anger he’d misread before was obvious.
“Snowkit,” he replied in a gravelly voice, unique for someone his age. “And you are Kvalun?” Slowly, his eyes left the she-kit’s retreating form and returned to the other tom.

He nodded. "Yes. I am her brother. Unfortunately" He said with a smile. He didn't mind being his sister's brother, but she could be a lot to handle for all the time the spent together. She was the only family he had, so the tom did love her more than the loyalty he had to WinterClan, but that hadn't come into question as of yet. "What do you do?" His speaking was slower than his sisters. He picked every word carefully to ensure that he never made a mistake. It made him sound robotic, yet it comforted him to not have someone correct him.

Ah, so he was right about them being related. Smiling faintly at the tom’s joke, Snowkit decided that he liked Kvalun. Although, that wasn’t to say he didn’t like Emris. She was just harder to understand. “It’s nice to meet you.” His ear flicked at the older kit’s question. It seemed odd to ask, and he wondered if Kvalun’s first language was to blame with the wording.
“Normally, I watch the other kits play. Today was the first time anyone has invited me to play with them,” Snowkit explained indifferently. It didn’t cross his mind how his answer might make him sound strange. “What do you do?”

"I watch. I play with my sister. No one else really." He was usually shy, so socializing with someone new like Snowkit was rare. He prefered to just stick with his sister, but that would have to change when they became apprentices. There was no way around that. He shuffled his paws. "You want to do what? I do not want to fight."

Nodding at the tom's words, Snowkit felt relieved that he wasn't the only one that didn't mingle with the other kits. Although, he felt bad for him as well. "I do not want to fight either," he confessed meekly. "Your sister has given me enough bruises for the day." Because he never got to do anything with anyone before, he felt a little lost at what to suggest, but he didn't want this opportunity to slip away from him either. Suddenly, an idea popped into his mind and he perked up. "The language you were speaking earlier... Would you like to teach it to me?" He didn't expect to learn it all, at least not at once, but even just a few words could be enough to satisfy his interest. Though, he wasn't sure where the interest had come from.

He smiled. Great, he didn't have to fight anymore today, at least until his sister cooled down. That would be a problem for the future Kvalun, not now. He couldn't hide his surprise when Snowkit asked him to teach him a little bit. He blinked and nodded. "Uhh... sure. It is not that hard. Much easier than your tongue." He thought for a moment. "Sa'ar yish lo'er Kvalun. Sa'ar yosh lo'er asga?" He sat down and wrapped his tail around his paws. It was simple enough right? His own language made far more since to him. He had a solid grasp on what they spoke in WinterClan, but he still had deficiencies.

Pleased that Kvalun agreed to teach him some of the language, Snowkit mimicked the other's movement and sat down. Although, despite the kit's reassurance that it was an easy language, Snowkit had no idea what to make of the odd question that next left his mouth. He blinked for a moment in an attempt to process the phrase and translate it, only realizing that he had no idea. "Uhh... what does that mean?"
He took a second to think about it before responding. He learned by listening, but maybe that wasn't the best way to teach."I am telling you my name and asking for your name. Sa'ar yish, my name, lo'er Kvalun, is Kvalun. Sa'ar yosh, your name, lo'er asga, is what?" The charcoal bengal tilted his head to the side. Would his friend understand this time?

"Okay," Snowkit said with a slow nod. Slowing down the wording and offering a bit of translation was making it much easier for him to process the unfamiliar language. "Sa'ar yish lo'er Snowkit... Sa'ar yosh lo'er Kvalun?" Feeling somewhat confident in the phrasing, he was not oblivious to his mispronunciation of some of the words. "Is that correct then?"
He smiled. "Yeah, that's right!" Maybe he wasn't a bad teacher. Now, what next? He tilted his head to the side for a moment. Maybe where he was from? "Va laptafil yi lo'er. I am from the desert. Yo lo'er va laptafil o hengthil? Are you from the desert or the forest?"

Snowkit gave a barely noticeable smile at the praise before his face screwed up in concentration. Slowly, he began to form the words to answer in Kvalun's tongue. "Va... hengthil... yi lo'er?" He paused and then repeated the sentence with more confidence, though the pronunciation was far from perfect. "You're from the desert?" Snowkit was surprised to hear that anyone from a place so hot could come to live in WinterClan.
Kvalun's eyes brimmed with curiosity as he watched the other kit process what he said. He thought that he did a better job this time and learned from his mistake. He smiled and vigorously nodded as the foreign words left the other kits mouth. "Yes! With my mother we lived. There we were born..." He did miss those days. They were so much simpler than this place, even if they had to fend for themselves.
