Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
Sliprabbit shivered as she was pelted by raindrops, her normally fluffy silver pelt now flattened against her sides. The storm had come from nowhere, but it struck hard; rain lashing the land while wind whipped at her fur and lightning clawed at the sky. She nearly jumped out of her skin as thunder suddenly cracked above her head, roaring so powerfully that she could only imagine it was what the ancient warriors of Lionclan and Tigerclan sounded like. The only shelter between the thin grove of trees she was hiding under and the forest was, ironically, an old rabbit burrow she had spotted only a few fox lengths away. The young she-cat hesitated, bouncing on her toes, before making a run for the burrow. She stuffed her body into the thin crack, then waited, grateful to be dry but terrified.
Stumbling home toward camp with her fur slicked to her sides from the rain, Shatteredshine looked like a skinny rat without her fluffy coat. Of all the days to forget where exactly their camp was located, it had to be the day there was a massive downpour... she wasn't usually this unlucky. She sighed as she trudged on through the torrent, unaware her sister was nearby.
In the relative darkness of the burrow, Sliprabbit could feel her whole body shaking; from the rain or adrenaline, she couldn't tell. For a few, tentative moments she simply sat crouched there, silently watching the tempest raging outside. Then, suddenly, the earth above her head began to subtly shake and move. Pushing herself against one of the walls of the den to keep herself steady, she peaked out of the entrance to see the blurry outline of a cat, just a few fox-lengths away from her hiding spot. "H-HEY!" She immediately called out without thinking, her voice straining to be heard above the pounding rain. "THERE'S SHELTER OVER HERE! THIS WAY!"
A faint voice reached her ears, calling out through the storm, and Shatteredshine's ear twitched back. She came to a halt. Was that her sister? She turned back, squishing against the lashing rain until she made out the hidden image of a warrior crouched within a burrow. She raced to join her and duck inside the hollow, squeezing beside Sliprabbit ungracefully.
"What are you doing out here?" she laughed breathlessly once she was safe from the rain.
A wave of both surprise and relief rushed over the young she-cat upon recognizing her sister, and Sliprabbit let out a shaky laugh as she scooted over as best she could to give Shatteredshine some room in the burrow. It was just barely wide enough for the two of them, with their soaked pelts being tightly squished together. "I was trying to hunt," she replied, curling her tail around her sibling's for comfort. "But having absolutely no luck at it. Go figure that mice are better at reading the weather than we are!"
She laughed breathlessly in agreement. "I noticed the clouds rolling in, but they were faster than I expected! Then, in the rain, it was hard to find the way back to the camp. Turns out there is a downside to moving about." Her ears twitched and she resisted the urge to try and shake her fluffy coat dry. She would have only succeeded in getting her sister wet. Instead, she huddled closer to her. "If I have to be stuck in a tiny burrow like this, I'm glad it's with you."
Sliprabbit smiled brightly at her sister as she leaned against Shatteredshine for warmth, but as she opened her mouth to respond - BOOM! A loud crack of thunder roared directly above them, and the grey she-cat let out a squeak and instinctively jumped out of fear, whacking her head on the top of the burrow. "Ow..." She whined, delicately lifting her front paw to check her forehead. "I wish this stupid storm would go away though," she mewed, pouting.
Shatteredshine's ears flattened and she winced away from the noise, barely avoiding hitting her head as well. She craned her neck to look closely at her sister's head and sniffed it. "You're not bleeding yet, you're fine," she assured her. She smoothed the fur back down with a few gentle licks.
"Yeah, me too. It came in so fast, maybe it'll leave quickly as well." She peered hopefully toward the entrance as if the rain might cease right then.
"But what if it doesn't?" Sliprabbit muttered, still frowning but relaxing a bit as Shatteredshine groomed her. "I don't want to make Tinybreath or Chimerastar worry..." While it was unlikely that their uncle would ever willingly admit that he was worried about them, their aunt and foster mother had a history of being slightly too overprotective of her nieces, which she would inevitably drag the Swiftclan leader into. The warrior cast a concerned glance at her sister. "Maybe we should try making a run for it? I mean, it's just water, right?"
