Rocks had been left at the border for a week now. She'd specially picked them to draw him out, knowing he couldn't resist new additions to his collection. Funny, how even now, she felt so confident that he would be there today. There had been no scent left with the stones, but it was easy enough to see that someone was signaling they wanted to speak with Sean. She wouldn't be surprised either if he realized that it was her.
As she sat the rock down at the border, the crimson dressed feline leaned back into a sitting position herself. Sure, Zakiyyah could try to hide. In fact, the ex-Spy would have had no trouble with that at all. Despite the fact she was taller than even Senescence, she had always been the sneaky sort, something that hadn't waned the slightest from her time in the League. She was the only enforcer, the singular cat in the League at this current moment to report to Funk if the Proxies were actually doing their jobs. Which, in the case of her cousin, at the very least, was almost always a 'not really'. But that was it's own conversation, one could suppose.
She hummed softly to herself as she waited, though she knew it would signal to him that she was here before he even saw her. But that was okay, she wanted to see him anyway, otherwise, what was the point of this all? Zakiyyah hadn't told Kotori she was coming to visit their father. For that matter, she should be in NightClan's prison about now, and the fact that she wasn't was a testament either to the guards' laziness, her charm, or her sheer skill, and which of them it was didn't particularly matter. She was here. Right at the border of the Regime.
Sean had noticed the series of rocks at the border and at first he thought it was Funk E'tan teasing him for his love for rocks, but when they were persistent he began leaving rocks at the border himself. He was certain they were from his daughter, this wasn't exactly Kotori's style after all. For the past couple of days he had searched for gem stones of specific meaning underground, sanded, shaped, and cleansed them until he found them desirable. He hadn't spoken to Zakiyyah in... Maybe a year, it felt like it. He wanted her to show herself, to bring her home and while he could never find her at the border in time there were other ways of communication. recently he had been leaving rhodochrosite's for Zakiyyah, they were known as the stone of the compassionate heart. It symbolized healing and love, it felt fitting, today he had rose tourmaline, it meant smooth transitions. He was hoping Zakiyyah would understand the symbolism of the rocks and one of these days would be waiting for him to take her home. He looked over his shoulder for Shule, he hadn't kept this a secret... But he also hadn't told her. He didn't try to hide his activities of heading out to the border or polishing rocks so that was honest! But at the same time he wasn't worried Shule would find out, he was worried she would say it was all in his head and that she would be right.
He wanted this to be real and when he heard her gentle hum he raced into the forest looking in all directions and for a moment was so excited he missed that she was in front of him. When he spotted her on the rock he broke into a messy kind of smile, it hanged loosely across his lips, faltering from a frown and twitching back into a smile, but the happiness was all in his tearful gaze. He missed her. "Come here."

She wasn't sure how she expected to feel upon seeing her father. Zakiyyah had carefully hidden the stones he'd given her, given them to Senescence to hold for the moment and asking her not to tell Kotori. To be quite honest, she wasn't sure how he would react if he found out she went to see Sean without him, or had sought him out at all. As much as she loved Kotori, she didn't think he'd be too happy. But he got to speak to Shule, so it was only fair she got to at least talk with dad.
It was hard to miss the meaning of the rocks. She could still remember him telling her about them as a kit, being fascinated with it though she never dared to start a collection of her own.
She could see the rock he had as he arrived, but she barely had the time to register what it was as she just stared at him for a long moment. This was real. She wasn't just dreaming about talking with her dad again, he was actually in front of her. Zakiyyah was more than halfway to him without much thought when she stopped just short of actually embracing him, the smile that wrote itself across her features for a moment as she paused. Her heart hurt a moment as she thought of the fact she hadn't told Kotori of this, had specifically taken measures to hide it from him, really. In a way, she didn't want to cross the rest of the distance, it felt like it would shatter the fragile reality she had been in since leaving the Regime, allowing rumors to circulate of her betraying the group, though there was no proof whatsoever of her having done anything at all. "Hey... dad." Her voice was quiet as she lifted a paw, only to set it down again as she looked at him, seemingly unable to decide whether to actually embrace him, or turn and flee.
Hurt flashed in his eyes, his heart recognizing the rejection, the way she didn't move forward to embrace him in long awaited loving reunion. But his mind had hardly caught up to the fact that she was there let alone the rejection. He stepped forward to her, step by step getting closer wanting to be close enough to touch her, to know this wasn't a dream out of the millions he had of his kits. Every shooting star, every stone cast in the well, he spent his life wishing for a moment like this, a second chance. "Are you happy?" Sean asked tearfully. She was different and colder every time he saw her, she was the piece of himself he never was to Green. Green stupidly escaped prison and left the Regime and he never followed her. But Kotori escaping the prison, it didn't feel so stupid and when he left the Regime Zakiyyah followed. No matter the place she went, she proved when she left she was a far better person than he was. He saw the good in her heart and none of the shadows, always the surprising optimist.

"That depends on how you define happiness." Zakiyyah answered, offering a secretive sort of smile that explained precisely none of what she may be feeling, ever the mystery. "Is happiness selling your own soul and morality for the sake of your sibling? Because mine's long gone, and I can't pay the price to get it back, so in the end, isn't it all irrelevant?" It was an honest question, and one she didn't have an easy answer to. She'd given up everything for Kotori. Absolutely everything, from the crown she wore as about as close to royalty as one could get in the Regime, to her own distaste at the killing of children, and in a lot of ways, her own autonomy. Up until now.. she'd done everything for her brother, and asked for nothing at all in return. Was she doing that because she truly wanted to? Or because she felt necessary to pay him back for all the hurt he felt by the spotlight she'd claimed in their youth. She wasn't sure, and that was part of the reason she was here, she supposed. She couldn't go back, that opportunity was long gone, but it felt fitting to confront her past to sort this all out.
Sean frowned, but walked over to her side or at least tried to and sat down, "Green once told me that there was no scar for things such as love and peace, only hate and pain. That it's easy to forget what happiness feels like so it's important to find our own types of scars for things like joy and wonder. You're one of those scars that I can look at that remind me of what happiness is. Maybe Kotori is a scar of joy that you didn't want to lose seeing. Happiness is often times selfish," Sean said, his words held gravity and even without Zakiyyah knowing what memory he must have reflected on she could feel the emptiness and sorrow that rang from his heart into hers, "Hopefully you didn't get lost in his pursuit of happiness."
He wasn't wrong. She had left because the thought of losing Kotori was far, far worse than keeping what she had if she stayed. And she didn't regret choosing him. Sean also had a point in happiness being selfish. Ever since leaving, she'd done everything she could for her brother, felt guilty for anything she had that he didn't, supported him purely for the sake of his happiness. She hadn't ever considered her own. What did she want? Her secretive look disappeared, thoughts lolling about on her head as she examined them.
As she watched, feeling that pang of sorrow, the ex-Spy finally stepped forward, turning suddenly and sitting down, leaning against him. She wasn't a kit anymore. Far from it, she was taller than he was! But still, she pressed herself against him, perhaps to comfort him, or maybe she was seeking such a thing herself. "I'm not lost. I just need to be a bit more selfish from now on." Zakiyyah answered simply. Maybe Kotori wouldn't like some of the things she did, but that was okay. She was his sister, not his child. She cared about him, and would die for him, but that didn't mean she would continue to sacrifice everything for him. She deserved to be happy too.
Sean brushed his paw through her fur in loving reassuring strokes, "That's all," He promised, reaffirming what she had said. He nuzzled her neck fur, not quite reaching far enough along her had, "I love you cutie, you might not be my comrade in the Regime anymore, but you'll always be my daughter and... I love all my children no matter what, that's what makes it so hard to be a parent sometimes. But I'll always be here for you, so please, don't be afraid to visit. And maybe we can have beauty days together? I could paint your claws and do your fur."

Zakiyyah had to pause to consider it, and she allowed the silence to stretch without much of a thought as she did so. Did she want to come and visit him? Did she want more of this, or was it time to turn her back on it for good, as she'd originally intended. She'd be lying to herself to say she wasn't enjoying this moment. It had been so, so long since she'd been able to just take comfort in her father's presence, and in many ways, she felt like a tyke again. Invincible, knowing that no one could ever touch her, that she owned the Regime even if unofficially. "I'll think about it." She settled on finally. "Perhaps you could visit the League. I'm sure Sen could find you a nice nest in Internal Affairs, even if she pretends to be annoyed about the prospect."
Sean smiled with a fake hesitant politeness, not because he didn't want to visit his daughter, but because he found surface dirt and the league in general to be revolting, "How kind."
Sincerity reflected from his gaze as he moved in closer to her, "I'll visit you as much as you would like. If you want me there every morning to catch you breakfast, I would do that. You're my daughter, it's my job and pleasure to be there for you. We could have brunch everyday as a family if you wanted to. Or if you would prefer nights I could come back to the league and we could stay up late and tell each other stories."
