Flamingstar walked alongside Kotori. She had asked him to accompany her to Renegade Regime to discuss a trading system with them. Just recently, Nightclan had advanced in their crafting and Flamingstar thought it would be a good idea to begin a trade with another group. While Flamingstar didnt trust anyone, Renegade Regime was probably her closest ally, or at least was. When it had been Commander Raijin, Renegade Regime and Nightclan had formed an alliance even after the break up between Raijin and Flamingstar that she had never told anyone. It was a small affair that didnt last long but it was still pleasant to think back on that time. Raijin was a good commander and would never have let their break up be the end of their alliance. However, shortly after, Gossomar took charge and the alliance was discontinued. Now, Shule had been elected the new Commander and while Shule and Flamingstar weren't on the best of terms, it was still worth a try to rekindle the alliance.
They soon reached the border that led to the Renegade Regime. Most of those cats stayed in the tunnels and didnt come above ground often but Flamingstar still wouldn't cross the border until she saw a Regime patrol. It was a sign of respect to keep on the other side of the border until invited. Flamingstar knew that if she showed respect for their borders, they would more likely honor her request. "Let's wait here. If we dont see anyone by the time the moon begins to go down, we will cross the border and try to find someone. As of right now, we will wait here until someone sees us." She mewed to Kotori, taking a seat just beyond the border.

Shule had changed some since Kotori's kithood. Sure, she was still largely the same stoic feline he knew, but even since becoming Commander, it appeared like the sleek former Mercenary had come into her own some. She walked with newfound authority, the kind that didn't just command respect, but bore a certainty to it, as though she understood that her words would spur on action, and didn't need to try and justify herself or force someone into obedience. There was also a sparkle to her hardened crystal eyes, a passionate light in her that seemed to brighten her up in a way that couldn't quite be described.
She'd sent Kaisra back to bed a few minutes ago, the Sentinel had just seemed rather tired today, perhaps staying up too late with her kits causing trouble last night. Though she was now Commander, Shule could hold her own against just about anyone. Of course, she might not have done that if she'd realized she would end up face to face with the NightClan leader and her own traitor son, Kotori. Funny. She'd just renewed the alliance with DayClan, things with SunClan seemed to be improving, or at least, less hostile than before, and now this. At least they'd stayed on their side of the border. "Why have you come here?"
Kotori looked up at Flamingstar with a tad bit of uncertainty as he sat down. He was still wanted for murder and for escaping last time and the last time after that. Even if his mom was in charge now, he was certain she would uphold that and why shouldn't she? He had killed his own siblings, if his mom and dad ever cleared him it was like saying his siblings deaths didn't matter, that he shouldn't ever be punished for what he did. Not that he was apologetic, the most sorry he could get was killing Plumamine because Laurel missed her so much. That and the most obvious death, Pebble, if he could rewind time she would still be here, she was never a target the way the others were.
When his mom approached he expected to sigh and roll his shoulders back with a bored teenage expression, but instead he found himself tearfully watching her approach. Back when he was in the Regime he hated his sister, he hated everyone, he had no one except his mom. There was no one he loved more than her and having spent this much time a part he could feel its impact. He looked at her black fur and he could remember being small and cuddled up against her and the softness of her voice when she would reassure that things would be okay. Now that he was older he found he wanted to embrace her and promise her just as reassuringly as she did that things would work out just fine. Tell her how proud he was of her being commander and how he always knew she could. Now all he could say was, "Congratulations on becoming commander." But saying that alone, it was all in his eyes that there were a thousand more things he wished he could say.

There was a million and one things she wanted to say to him, a million and one things she couldn't bring to pass her lips. She wanted to shake him, to scream at him. A part of her reasoned that she should take this moment to put him in custody, to finally end that dark chapter of the Regime's history, but looking at him, she couldn't do it. Couldn't, or wouldn't? Did it matter? "Kotori." The word, as cold as the wind that swirled through the territory, shattered the world like a shell, tore apart her inner composure and forced her to sit down as she simply looked at him. It was rather silly, wasn't it, that all it took was her son, and suddenly Shule seemed to change on a whim. Though little in her body language changed, something in her eyes seemed less concrete, as though she couldn't quite choose how to react to his presence.
After all, how did you greet a murderer, a traitor, especially when they happened to be your own son? Even through all that, she couldn't help that little flicker of love in her heart and across her eyes. No matter what, no matter how her paw was forced to act towards her son, she would never stop loving him. If nothing else, that much was certain.
Flamingstar dipped her head in greeting as Shule approached. "Just the cat we were hoping to see." Flamingstar began. "Congratulations on becoming commander." She had skipped Shule's question for a proper introduction to her idea. She hoped to warm Shule up a bit before she hatched her plan. However, she didnt want to waste Shule's time too much. She knew the she-cat was busy and the longer she kept her here with small talk, the more likely she was to become agitated and impatient so Flamingstar went straight to business. "To answer your question, I am here to offer you a trade alliance. You see, Nightclan has advanced in some of our...crafts and products, if you will, and so I thought I would come to ask if you would be interesting in casual trade system. Kotori just came along for the ride." She could feel the tension between them, sort of a bitter sweet energy. She hoped the awkwardness between them wouldn't disturb their mission.

"You could at least do me the favor of not lying to my face, Flamingstar. You didn't bring Kotori along just for the ride, you brought him because you thought his presence would help to convince me that I should agree to this business partnership." It was far too much of a coincidence for her to have brought her son specifically to this meeting. "In which case, I may as well ask him directly. Kotori, why should I agree to this trade system? Don't think that just because she's your mate that I will just be agreeing for no reason whatsoever."
Did Shule know if they were mates? No, she couldn't say she could guarantee it, but she could sense that there was something far deeper between them than met the eye, so she took a chance and called it anyhow. Who knew, maybe she was right, or at least close to it.
Flamingstar lowered her ears and a look of awkwardness crossed her surprised expression. "What? Oh, no, hes not-. We're not-" she was actually unsure of what the two were. They weren't mates nor were they simply friends, either. There was definitely something more but it wasnt something that could easily be explained. She flashed Kotori a look before meeting Shule's gaze again and clearing her throat, dismissing the awkward moment as she waited for Kotori to answer his mother's question.
"Flamingstar has better taste in toms than me," Kotori said when Flamingstar began to stutter and added, "But someday, I'll be the person she deserves."
"Business wise, there's something called an opportunist cost, this happens when you have risk and you decide if the reward outweighs the risk. The risk here is trusting an unknown suppler with no background in trade or crafting. But then you can't be too picky cause neither has any other clan. The Regime is hungry, they can't waste time supplying you with materials, take it from NightClan. The worst that can happy is they do a sloppy job and you cut ties, but at best you get what you want. You know that the league has formed a black market, connect with NightClan to get protection over the product. If you don't take it, we'll go to your competitors so it's your call, but considering what you did to Funk E'tan you probably don't want us going there."
(Kotori's character is usually rped as a human who works beside powerful, morally questionable women and boosts their cooperation by helping with the business and design end of things so it's nice to show that off xD)
Flamingstar gave Kotori a warning look about their strange relationship before relaxing her expression and nodded in agreement with what Kotori said about their business. "Hes right" she began. "We can offer you nets, baskets, wood, flint, medical supplies and tonics. Perhaps even prey if you've got the goods to trade for it." Flamingstar offered, hoping their attempt to persuade her was successful.

"You're quite confident and convincing when talking about anyone but yourself, you know." Shule commented, glancing between them. "Stop devaluing yourself, Kotori. You are deserving of love. Don't degrade yourself or the question the worth of Flamingstar's opinion of you, because she clearly thinks you have worth, if she was trusted you enough to ask you to come along. And if two leaders can see that in you, consider that maybe we're telling the truth." It was true enough. The NightClan leader clearly saw his value, as more than just a friend and conspirator, and he tried to downplay her very opinion in his insecurity, when Shule could see the tom he'd become in the moons they'd been apart. She wasn't sure if it was the cat she would have wanted him to be, but the time to wonder about it was long gone by now, so she simply had to accept that he was who he was, and wish him the best. While also trying to figure out if there could be anything more than space between them after what he'd done.
And her gaze landed on Flamingstar once more. "The Regime is all tunnels. We can give you all the raw materials you could hope for. If it's mineral, rock, clay, metal, or gems, we have it. What in particular were you hoping for?" Now they were getting into it. It wasn't a yes, but it wasn't an outright no, either. Clearly, Shule was at least willing to discuss it.
A slight smile pulled at Flamingstar's lips as she gave a sideways glance at Kotori. She did feel something special about Kotori and it was disappointing that he didnt think she valued him. Obviously she did trust him or he would not be here right now. He was the only cat in the entire forest who had open borders to Nightclan. Surely he meant something to her.
Her ears perked and her attention was back on Shule at the sound of clay. The things they could make with clay. "Clay definitely sounds interesting. I wasnt entirely sure what I was hoping for which is why I came to discuss it. Though, it does sound like you may have items of value to us, afterall. What do you say? Have we come to an agreement?"
Kotori's eyes immediately averted Shule's the moment she called him out, his stubborn expressing breaking between her words. He could feel himself thinking back to all the times his moms words couldn't be true. Cyra said she loved him and still went behind his back with those other toms. He killed for her, more than any of those other toms would have done for her and she let him into the league out of pity. She said she wasn't afraid of him, but he never told her about their kits. And when they met again, she left him once more and gave his kits away to her brother. He gave her everything he had and in return she took everything from him. For a moment his eyes flashed red, but the only reason the red never landed over his green gaze was because he caught Flamingstar looking at him and it made everything in the past wash away, like a wave taking away wreckage. He would have given Cyra the world, but now everything in him was for Flamingstar. All the lives he took that were securd inside of him, she didn't just have nine lives, she had nine lives plus his five lives and maybe... She felt thee same way about him. His face turned shy immediately, not outright blushing, but feeling the air becoming hotter when it wasn't.
"That we have. How about you return tomorrow with a sample of your product, and I, mine. After that, we can set up a time to meet for a few days and hash out the particulars, if what we see tomorrow is adequate." Shule suggested. There was only so much she was willing to trust this, naturally, without at least seeing one example of the clan's craftsmanship, and then go from there. But she didn't sense any deceit at this current moment, and after tomorrow, she'd have her sure answer, so it seemed.
