Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
The Nemesis chuckled, an overly dark sound as he struck a deal with a rogue he'd known for a while. They didn't even blink at it, perhaps far too used to that as they passed a pack of seeds to the bengal. Funk had already checked them and was excited to plant them in one of the gardens strewn around the League's territory. The rogue took his payment, a seemingly random assortment of herbs that would come together into an intoxicating medley. When putting the package together, Funk E'tan considered throwing in something a little more... special, but resisted for now. The other still had some use to him. The meeting dispersed and Funk was now left in the middle of rogue territory without much to do. It ended so quickly and he didn't quite want to go back yet. The sun was barely in the sky too, dawn breaking not that long ago. Slipping through the thick fields, he wandered without a thought, figuring to just let whatever happen happen.
It had been been a few moons since Yumemi had left the coalition, and she'd accomplished embarrassingly little.
Her attempts at carving out a new niche for herself in the forest may have been half-baked, but they'd seemed like good ideas at the time. Her kit-sitting job had ended abruptly after only two short weeks, when one of the kits she was supposed to have been minding sneaked his way into her supplies and started munching on those spare deathberries she kept lying around for some reason. Her career as a forest guide had worked out even worse, when the blind tomcat she'd been escorting through loner territory got pushed over that cliff by the wind. And attempting to start the forest's first real fire brigade? As it turned out, her cheeks couldn't hold that much water, and the local rogue group she'd been trying to recruit had driven her away when they'd discovered half their camp had been burnt to the ground. Yumemi was still salty about that one. They still had a whole half a camp.
She sighed, plodding through the fields of the rogue territory with her head hung low. Maybe she should go back to the whole healing shtick after all. It hadn't done her any good in the past, but she'd been good at it once she'd been given proper tutoring. She'd felt like this once before, when Shae had sent her off to find that damn elixir of life, or whatever the she-cat had called it back then. She was still feeling vaguely depressed a few minutes later, when she spotted a familiar shape through the grass. "Is that..." she squinted. "...It is! HEY! HEY, FUNKBEAT - UM, FUNK - FUNKTHINGY - FUNK E'TAN!" she called out, proud of herself for remembering the Nemesis' proper title, even if it had taken her a few tries.

...Funkbeat? He hadn't been called that for so long, he almost forgot that was something he called himself. Kind of silly in hindsight, though it made sense. There were beats in funk. If he was something like Funkvalley or Funkmountain, it'd be different. That voice sounded familiar too, though he couldn't quite see who it was until they approached him. He squinted at the small she-cat briefly, but the memory came back quicker than he thought. It must have been shortly before or after he joined the League, getting tempted in by that damn Mother E'tani. The Nemesis remembered an apprentice looking for some elixir of life or whatever from the Coalition. Funny how things changed. Now all she held dear was dead and taken over by him, not that he'd tell her yet. He was surprised to not see her when they came to the city, though he figured she was killed by the rogues. "Ah... Meme Yumemite! I thought you had died."
Yumemi nodded enthusiastically. "Almost," she chirped, "but I lived!" It was nice to see a somewhat familiar face again, even if the two of them hadn't seen each other in so long that the dude had thought she'd gone and died. To be fair, she had been in a lot of absurdly death-defying situations recently. That fire had been hot.
"So, how've you been since we talked last?" she asked, not really caring whether the tom would give her a proper answer or not. It had been a while since she'd talked to a cat without them being openly hostile to her, and she was determined to milk it for all it was worth. She leaned in a little, and gave the Nemesis a conspiratorial wink. "I've been depressed!" she said, in an exaggerated whisper.

A lot had happened since he'd last seen Yumemi. Became Nemesis, had way too many children, had a mate for like a day before she died, moved to the city, took over the remnants of her defeated clan, watched a god eat another god. It's been crazy. If Funk was a human, he'd take a slow drag of a cigarette and go "haven't we all." Cause really, he needed one right now. However, he was a cat, so he settled on a sigh before shrugging. "Eh. It's been a soap opera, but what's new?" Funk shifted slightly, the seeds in his parcel shaking a little. "Ah hey. You might appreciate these." Remembering Yumemi was a medicine cat apprentice, he hastily opened his leaf package. Nowadays, no one was around to really appreciate the new plants he brought home. "They're called Nimroot seeds. They have a bunch of alchemical properties from what I hear."
Yumemi's eyes gleamed as she inspected the seeds, pressing her face right up to them to get the closest look possible. "Wow, I've never seen these before!" she whispered in awe, tilting her head. "Where're they from? Can you use them for..." You know you can't go back to healing, a voice inside her said. You've already ruined enough lives just by existing, you don't need to ruin any more. You know you wouldn't be any good at it, anyway. Not when you're so out of practice.
Her whispers drooped and shoulders sagged as she stepped away from te seeds. "I-I really appreciate the thought, but I respectfully decline to, uh, look at the seeds any further," she said, trying to use the type of language she'd heard the older cats in Absum Lux say, once upon a time. "I sorta-kinda gave up on medicine when I left the coalition. And, um, I think if I started again, I would probably...just screw everything up," she admitted.

Funk couldn't help but be excited by her awe and wonder. It was a similar feeling that brought him into the world of medicine, the kind of wide-eyed wonder he liked to see in others. His disposition shifted as she stepped away and her shoulders sagged. "Messing up. Is that what you're worried about?" He supposed being a father had its own benefits, ones that led to him tying up the seeds and setting them aside. Not that he was the best consultant, messing up to him meant new things to research. If a cat died in his care, he barely had any and would just autopsy them to find out why. "Why? What happened? You know no one could have found that elixir of life, right?" His tone was half serious, half not.
Yumemi couldn't help but laugh when Funk brought up the elixir. "I get that now," she said, voice tinged with bitterness. "I didn't at the time, and Shae knew that she could give me whatever order she wanted and I'd do it. She could have made me do anything, like...poison a nursing queen so her kits would all die. And I would have just done it without thinking, y'know? I probably still would."
She kneaded the ground with a paw uncertainly. "The only reason I ended up as a healer in the first place is because it made me into someone worth keeping around. If I start it up again, I'm...kinda scared that someone would use me again, like Shae did. That would be messing up." Her expression darkened suddenly, looking entirely out of place on someone like her. "If I poison a nursing queen and her litter then I want it all to be my fault, dammit!" She blinked, her sudden bout of anger seemingly leaving her just as quickly as it had come on. "...Am I oversharing? I've had people tell me I do that. I'll stop, if you want."

Funk bit his lip a little, the pain clearing his head some as he thought. It was strange to see the once peppy she-cat so down in the dumps. Well, not pang in the heart kinda strange and sad. Just like a huh kinda weird maybe i should help. Kinda thing. So Funk flexed his claws a little, letting go of his lip and spoke. "You know. At the end of the day, you're always going to run into people that want to use you. I do even as Nemesis and I used to a lot. Okay, still do." Funk shrugged, "But point is, the best you can do is try and stay alert. You know more than you did a few moons ago. We never stop learning. And you still have so much ahead of you. Ugh, great. Can you tell I'm a dad now?" He sighed a bit. Gee, why was this cheesy again? "Look, did you like being a healer?"
