It had taken awhile for Reprise to work her way around the main estate. It was, after all, an extremely large building. Reprise was used to buildings as such but she'd never experienced one quite so big as the estate. She'd only got the main access points covered so far, there were just so many little places everywhere. There were also a lot of cats and of course, many cats who didn't appreciate the she-cat snooping around. But Reprise wanted to make a special effort to get to know the place. After all, it was her new home now. Many things surprised Reprise, she had soon come to realize Primal Instinct was not a comfy, cuddly place. It was... dark, cold and hostile. But somehow Reprise appreciated the place and was determined to make it her home.
She knew making friends would be extremely important for her and her quest to find her place among the group. It was never too late to start and today, Reprise was determined to find someone she could talk with.

It was a good thing for Reprise that Lorelei was one of the friendlier cats of the League. But also a bad thing in that she was one of the more violent. So perhaps it would even out? Who knew. After being brought to the League by Senescence, she quickly adopted the proxy as her mother and joined the Punishment district. The district for cannibals, so it seemed. Today, for instance, she was leaving Senescence's office. She finally got that prisoner to crack after god knows how long, and quickly went to report the news to her mother. Of course, the tall calico's front was soaked with blood that was quickly drying. Sometimes talking worked, but Lorelei found herself getting bored of that almost immediately and would resort to more... physical methods.
Slowing down at the base of the stairs, she swiped her tongue over her chest a few times, savoring the flavor and the fear that pervaded the blood. Her job was basically done, now she needed to find something else to do. Reprise's wanderings ended up bringing her to Lorelei's attention and bounded over to the bengal. "Hey, you're the Nemesis' sister, right? How come you're here?" Sure, joining one's family was nice, but Lorelei couldn't imagine herself packing up just because she found Brother again.

( lol i must have been so tired when i wrote my first post aha how many times did i say place? oops )
It was the smell of blood that hit Reprise's nose first, not the voice of the approaching she-cat. After joining the League the iron like smell and taste of the red, warm liquid that seeped from the bodies of dead prey had become a normal part of her day. It still didn't mean her senses had yet become immune to it. The site in front of her made her shiver slightly. The blood covering the she-cat's body made Reprise feel slightly nervous. The issue was, you could not put the thought of who's blood that might be out of your mind. It wasn't stupid to think that, not in a place like Primal Instinct at least. Thankfully, the she-cat's question seemed normal and not aggressive toned. Hopefully that meant she didn't want to murder her.
Glancing to look at the tall calico she-cat in more detail, she paused, regarding her before answering. "Yeah, that'd be me." It didn't surprise her that the cats of the League knew of her. Many cats knew of the surprising matter of all Funk's siblings somehow reuniting together in Primal Instinct. Out of what odds? Not many that was for sure. With all honesty, Reprise still didn't know herself. She knew she had to be careful with her answers though, any wrong movement or action could alert other cats that she was weak and that was the she-cat's biggest fear. "My twoleg owners were not caring, so I left. I guess I heard rumors of other Bengals and decided to search for them. So far, Primal Instinct has really intrigued me, how everyone functions here... is so different." She trailed off, realizing she might have said too much. Typical her. It always ended like this.

Lorelei didn't notice. Not the slight disgust that ran across her face or the visible shudder of her shoulders. She must have blocked it out, even without the blood she was a bizarre cat to behold. With a light green eye and a dark one that shone with copper in the light, to her childlike demeanor. It didn't help she was a good year or so younger than Reprise, but she thought nothing of it and listened to her answer with intensity. It was constantly bizarre how some will hear that bengals or others would be somewhere and risk going in case it might be their siblings. The whole royal bloodline not that long ago was bengals. If they came then, they'd just be beheaded. It was pure luck that Funk E'tan was Nemesis. Lorelei never cared to rely on luck. Then again, if a bunch of odd eyed cats took charge somewhere, she may go check it out if she felt like it.
"Is it really that different?" Not a drop of hostility was on her voice, though a little blood definitely seeped out the side of her mouth, "The League funk..chins the same as most places I've been." Not that Lorelei was one to talk. A harsh lifestyle was all she knew, so coming here was nothing new. Heck, if there wasn't a prison system where you can torture others, what was the point? Sounds like no fun.

Reprise's ear twitched slightly, she forced out the smell of blood and tried to concentrate on the conversation at hand. Get tough, love, it ain't getting any easier. The voice inside her head reminded her once again. Okay, so maybe the she-cat in front of her was a sight to see but to hell with it, she probably was a loving cat with big dreams, just living her best life in the League. Perhaps all the cats that lived here were the same? Perhaps not quite everyone had gone mad? Not that she didn't want to jump to conclusions about anyone or anything. Today was a day she planned on making friends. Even if she wasn't too sure how she or the other cat could relate quite yet... she was sure such a thing could be figured out. Give it time. And she had to be understanding of the other she-cat, her life might not be daisies and butterflies.
Still though, she couldn't help but question everything about the other she-cat. At the same time though, the other cat interested her. Perhaps she had a troubled past? Yes... yes, that would explain her reply and her views. Of course, there always needed to be an explanation. "It's different for me. I can't say the same for you but, well, being an ex kittypet and all I'd say the League does have... a couple of differences." With a warm smile, that was perhaps a failed attempt to try and hide the amount of stress she was under right now, Reprise continued. "So, you're not League born I take?"

Lorelei Manina was a loving cat living her best life in the League, Though her love was superficial and her best life involved killing whoever she pleased and eating them. So really, her best life. The League gave her everything she could have wanted, so she had little reason to change or want any change for it. Despite those that wanted a revolution over the moons, she was ever content with the status quo. Madness was helpful, and Lorelei never met sanity in her short life.
"Yeah, there's no food from a can or warm beds here. Though I don't think that's what you're talking about. Everyone is here for a different reason, so everything changes when one of them gets in charge. It's only a matter of time to see what your brother makes of the place." Really, Lorelei had few opinions on Funk. He tended to argue with her mom so she sided with her a lot more. But he wasn't really a good cat, would still throw her pieces of victims if he could so he can't be all bad. Any stress given to her was unintentional, and went completely unnoticed by the calico, "Nah, I was raised by rogues after being stolen from my parents. Paid to fight and all that fun stuff. But I escaped. Had to leave my sister behind, but that's the way it goes sometimes. Joined the League after Ma... Senescence saved me from a badger. You should have seen her kill that thing. It was amazing. I wanna be like that one day."

Well, there you go. Lorelei's life was certainly not daisies and butterflies. But daisies and butterflies didn't count to kindness, perhaps one could be a butterfly but underneath there was rotten flesh hidden there? Maybe... just maybe, some cats were opposites. It was a stupid belief for such a cat as Reprise but who could blame the young she-cat? She had no clue what she was getting herself into, let alone how this might affect her life. And some can complain that her sanity was safe, folded in bubble wrap, hidden away from the dangers of the world. But perhaps Reprise could easily become her demon? But of course, the she-cat was naive. She was here to make friends, to become liked and to change things. But the walls she had created around herself weren't strong and only now, that her world progressed that these walls were starting to fall. Maybe her soul was too wholesome but alas, Reprise did not know. Talking to Lorelei was all she cared about right now. What was the best way into her soul? How could they be friends? How could she relate to this she-cat?
The other she-cat's past certainly didn't surprise Reprise. She had listened to many strange... cats and their history. Settling her mind, Reprise portrayed as much confidence as possible. It was time to shine. Or so the she-cat thought. "No, you're right. That's not really what I meant and you're past is a good example of what I did mean. What happens to the souls that aren't broken? Like, hell... I swear you're all some sort of messed up." Her tone changed slightly, perhaps the question had come out of nowhere, or perhaps it had been sitting at the back of her mind, but where ever it came from, she regretted it as soon as it came out.

"That's what this place is." Lorelei's tone changed ever so slightly, a little harder but that was it, "It's a place for those that are messed up, or mad or outcasts or insane or whatever you want to call it really. This is a place for us, because no where else will accept us. Cause really, you go tell a clan cat 'hey, can i live here, i'm only a mass murderer' or 'i'm only a cannibal' and you can never get into a clan with a resume like that. But here, in Primal Instinct, no one really cares. Cause we all want to be accepted by someone, even if it's those just as crazy and messed up as us." Lorelei lifted her back leg up and scratched behind her ear as she talked, staring off in the distance.
"I know you're gonna say like 'you're equating murder to like baseball' or whatever. But everyone was gonna get together and make their own group anyway. This is just that group. As for the unbroken..." Finally, she tore her eyes off of whatever thought or ghost she saw and looked back at Reprise, "they either break or die. That's the way it works. Not that you got much to worry about, right?" The calico smiled lightly, her words piercing and serrated.

Murder. Death. Corruption. Three words with cold meaning. These words were something Reprise strived to hide from, to prevent the world around her from showing her. How did she do that? She fixed them. In all rightful terms, her life, the way she lived and her dreams were centered around these three words. The old kittypet she'd used to live with had taught her this and she had believed him. His opinion was something she had taken for granted. Something she had cherished. He had given her a life goal. Something to keep her motor working, continuing forward. It was all she had known. Perhaps she had clung a little too hard to it? Perhaps it was all she had?
The words Lorelei spoke now messed up and broke everything she believed in. It unsettled her. Surely evil needed to be fixed... corrected? But somehow, deep down, she had a fleeting feeling of doubt. But her rigid mindset kept her from seeing the truth, her ways and views were too strong.
"Sure, sure. I get that. But I don't know, shouldn't you try and change? Shouldn't we all strive to be better and improve from our past? That's what I don't understand. I don't think my brother gets that either about me." Reprise's pelt prickled. She had to remind herself again that she was doing the right thing... but was this really her place to say things like this? She had been welcomed here because she was Funk's sister. Overall, she had been accepted into the League. Was it really fair she could just waltz in like this?

"Maybe I should change. Yeah, better and improve." Lorelei missed the point, her tail tip tapping against her chin as she thought, "I've been using the same techniques for so long. I gotta do something new, give 'em a twist, you know. Ooh, you're brother. Maybe I should take a page out of his book and have them rip their own claws and teeth out. Or feed them herbs and stuff. It does flavor the meat a little, so that could be nice." She could picture it now. A little thyme, some garlic, ooh some basil. Ah, she was definitely salivating.
"See. Our best and your best are completely different things. That's my best. I can't imagine living a life without any blood in it. And I think it's fine if you'd rather not. But no one really likes being forced to change. We have the different districts for a reason, so each of our strengths are played to. Those like me get to stay away from the clans and the rogues, because I'd kill them rather than try and talk things out. Of course, when I get out of line, there are plenty of others to steer me back to where I need to be. Get what I'm sayin, lady chief?" Well, maybe she did get the point. Kinda. She wasn't sure. She just talked, just wanting Reprise to get this idea of revolution out of her head.

Unfortunately for Reprise the idea for a "revolution" was perhaps imprinted a little too hard into her mind. Almost as if a knife had drawn the words across her brain and into her skull. She couldn't hide the scars; they were too deep. And Lorelei was not helping the situation by absently chatting to Reprise about how she could improve her murder techniques. Her blood boiled even more when the other she-cat mentioned her brother. Their best and worst were so different and it angered Reprise, right down into her bones.
Portraying a sweet and innocent smile, the she-cat dipped her head. Don't let your anger overwhelm you. Don't let it take control of you. It doesn't matter what this other she-cat is saying, surely it was beyond the point? Getting angry in front of her would not fix the underlying issue. No, no it wouldn't. She had to be clever about this. Her light green eyes burning into Lorelei, Reprise laughed. It was a sweet laugh. One you'd assume was full of passion and love. "Well dear, I'm sure improving your skills in... ahem... you're... hobby, is... well, most important to you and I can respect that, as you can respect where I am coming from." Another sweet smile crossing her features, Reprise whispered, "and don't call me lady chief. Reprise is fine."
Post by strawberrycupid on Oct 27, 2019 15:36:53 GMT -5
Lorelei didn't get the passion, couldn't see the scars that were drilled into Reprise's head. Even if they were on the outside. She stood up and stretched, the feeling of Reprise's eyes burning into her, exciting her just a little. Though her odd eyes rolled to the back of her skull, her words seemed to be going over her head. Or maybe not. It was more than she wasn't getting the reaction she wanted. It was so much easier to be a pawn, just to live and to die by the status quo. But some would never be content with that, and she guessed that was fine until it threatened her way of life. "I suppose I will for now. Don't expect that for long though."

Reprise felt her fur stand slightly on end at Lorelei's reply. Just /slightly/. She didn't enjoy it one bit. Not that she hadn't expected it. So much for making friends and talking butterflies and unicorns, now she almost felt as if Lorelei was disrespecting her. And for a cat-like Reprise, respect was very important. It was stupid of her to think she deserved it though. In some aspects of life, Lorelei was probably saner. Though Reprise would have ripped you're head off if you said that. She viewed herself as a perfect little poppet. However, Reprise knew to gain these cat's trust, she had to not spill the pot, and burst out in anger and threats. Her plan needed to proceed with caution, spitting it out in the open would not help. She couldn't let her anger take control of her.
"I'm sorry." She meowed, dipping her head. "I might have overstepped. I didn't mean it in a harsh way. And I respect your way of life, maybe I need to learn and understand it a little more. Perhaps you could show me your ways and what you do? I don't want to intrude or anything. But maybe I need to understand this way of life if I want to become part of it. Perhaps you could show me, Lorelei?" She smiled, trying to give as many genuine vibes as possible.

For a cat from Punishment, you'd expect Lorelei to be able to read faces better than she actually could. Or tone, or really, anything. But she was fairly oblivious. Though a part of her felt uneasy. Did Reprise change her tune too quickly? It seemed odd to suddenly ask about just what she did when she didn't seem interested before. The tall calico considered it briefly, but also knew she couldn't really deny the request. If this she-cat was going to stick around, she needed to get used to what the Punishment district did especially. They were sort of the heart of PI, the remnants of the old League.
"I suppose so. I'm done anyway." Her chipper tone masked some suspiciousness.

Smirking, an almost judging look crossing the cream coloured Bengal's face, Reprise trotted after Lorelei. "Of course. Your work must be something." She had to force herself to not laugh at her own words. They were all so full of lies and she half regretted pulling back to being so nice to Lorelei. For crying out loud, this she-cat was a murderer! She deserved to pay. Sauntering along, Reprise beamed at the other she-cat. Two cats, so different. Why was the world like this? Hah. Yes, indeed. This she-cat's work was something. Well, it wasn't nothing to start with. It was a stupid something in Reprise's mind. A slight chuckle escaped from her mouth, her eyes almost popped out. Did Lorelei notice? Oops. Quick. Keep talking. "So, how did this become a thing?" She asked, her eyes huge, an attempt at trying to show some kind of curiosity. "When you were born? Like, you popped out and thought: huh, les do some killin? Huh?" Of course, it was an insult, how else could a sentence like that be used? You don't talk to your grandpa, rotting in the elders' den things like that. Grandma would probably have a heart attack if such a thing was even whispered.
Post by strawberrycupid on Nov 5, 2019 1:50:34 GMT -5
Now. Lorelei would never be considered the sharpest tool of the shed. Well, sharpest in terms of deadliness? Sure. Of perception and smarts? Not quite. Calling her dumb wouldn't feel right, it was really just an inattentiveness. An inability to pick up on tone and sarcasm and jokes and the like. It led to her grandmother having to tell her she was just insulted. As much as Senescence could have hoped Lorelei would have gotten better or care a single bit about her reputation, nothing seemed to change.
Here, things were different. Lorelei was already suspicious of Reprise and every word out of her sounded more and more fake. She hadn't even said anything about the Punishment district, but it was suddenly turned back around to her. Like she was the worse of what the League had to offer. Lorelei never really cared what anyone else thought of her, it was a losing battle and she had better things to do. Like, kill cats. Still, this was fairly rude. Lorelei's tail whipped behind her and, before the other could blink, one of her back legs shot out. Knocking Reprise off her feet, the tall calico immediately pressed her to the ground, one of her paws forcing it's way under her jaw and on her windpipe, pressing down on it slightly.
"Careful with that preaching. Unless you're ready for someone to tear out your tongue so we never have to hear it again." She didn't move for several seconds, eyes unblinking before finally stepping off the bengal and trotting away.

What had Reprise really been expecting Lorelei to do? After all, she had been winding the other she-cat up. It would have been stupid of Reprise to expect the other cat to simply nod and agree and continue on with whatever they had been doing in their life. Somehow she hadn't quite expected Lorelei to knock her over with one swipe of a paw, until she was flat on the ground with the other cat's paws pressing down on her throat, threating her. Well, she knew it would have to happen soon enough.
When Lorelei had finished with her insults, Reprise picked herself up, a growl erupting deep within her throat. "You think you can just throw me to the ground and be down with it?!" She hissed, sauntering after Lorelei as she trotted off. "Well, you'd be wrong you stupid cat! No one damn cat is cutting my tongue out, rather I'll be cutting yours out soon enough. Bad deeds need to be punished and you've done enough of those to die!"
Post by strawberrycupid on Nov 10, 2019 1:05:23 GMT -5
Now Lorelei was getting revved up. There was little doubt a few others had heard Reprise's sudden declaration. Fairly brazen to threaten a proxy's kid like that, surely what they thought, one trained by Senescence no less. Realistically, there was little chance Reprise would beat her in a fight. The calico had spent her whole kithood and most of her adulthood fighting. That didn't stop Lorelei from getting excited, casually throwing herself around to face Reprise, a wicked grin crossing her face.
"Ah, the preaching mouse thinks she can rip my tongue out, make me pay for my crimes. I'd think you'd of filed those nails down so you don't scratch your owners." Lorelei lifted a paw and hooked her own cheek with a long claw. Perfectly white and sharp teeth were on display, alongside that sassy tongue. Blood dyed it red as she pulled her paw back out of her mouth, spittle and blood covering it. "You can talk the talk all you want, show cat, but unless you can walk with us as well, your rhetoric is unnecessary. Now, come on. I'll let you have the first swing. Just to see if your convictions are real."

Lorelei's insults dug deep and the anger bristled throughout every part of Reprise. She knew Lorelei was a good fighter, she didn't have to know, she could tell. She knew she wasn't the best fighter to exist either. When she had roomed the streets with her siblings, fighting had been important but being a kittypet for a while had softened her skills a little. It had only been recently that she had began to practice again.
Her claws digging into the ground, she sneered at the other she-cat. "Okay, so I'm a show cat. And I'm going to show you some fox-dung." She hissed, her gaze glistening. In that moment, something happened. It was small, hardly noticeable but a strange look crossed Reprise's eyes. It was a look of a cat who was slightly insane, a look of a cat who couldn't quite comprehend the world for what it was. As quick it came, it was gone though.
Stepping back, Reprise smiled a little too confidently. "Come at me then. I know you're stronger than me. So, why don't you land the first blow? Or am I not the type of cat who you usually pick on? Maybe you prefer kit sized cats, huh? Of course you never pick on someone you're own size, you wouldn't know how to deal with your pride being broken." Snarled Reprise, retreating her claws, as an act of defenseless.
Post by strawberrycupid on Nov 28, 2019 2:07:30 GMT -5
Lorelei was rarely one to fight with her words. Others were better at it, and she knew her own were weak. But after hearing lots and lots of trash talk, you figure out how to do it too. Her words bit hard, harder than she thought. There wasn't much thought to them, just phrases she heard Reprise described as that she got to parrot. Overly confident rhetoric that was more like a child repeating what they had heard rather than putting any thought into it. That was fine, Lorelei didn't care.
There was no way Lorelei caught that glint, that moment. Maybe someone else did, but they weren't speaking up. They'd just let this play out, overly entertained.
Her odd gaze was blank as Reprise talked, the kind of gaze that was all-encompassing as it scanned everything around them. The walls, the floor, the small crowd that had appeared. The woodworks were filled with faces she recognized and those she didn't. But one part of Reprise's little quips she got was the pride thing. A distant and familiar laugh echoed in her mind, and that harsh laugh boiled in her throat before letting itself out. The lanky calico knew one thing; if they didn't take your first grace, they don't deserve a second. So, she moved. Fast. Recklessly. A dance with death. She didn't even dodge to the side like usual. Whipping around, she kicked back at the bengal like a horse, both back paws slamming into her lower jaw.
"Do you hear yourself, hypocrite? Try setting aside that pride of yours and fight for your worthless ideals." Lorelei didn't even turn back around, the tall calico just looked over her shoulder and waited.
