Nora looked over at the other cats, several of whom were voicing their discomfort. Riamu-kun, she could understand after all she was only a trainee, she was just in that whiny age group. The others should filter themselves better, besides there was no use to complaining. The tri-color kept her front paw lines on her tail as the uncontrollable lashing was bothering her. Her rear end would not stop quaking and she debated laying down to stable herself. Yet she continued to sit up, shaking and swaying slightly. Nora would not be willing to let some mushroom take her down, poison just seemed so tacky and in a way lazy.
Relief washed over her as Funk claimed that these effects would wear off within a day. So death was of the table, or at least it was for the moment. Tomorrow held no promises. Now Nora really was not sure if she wanted to see what Innocentia had planned. That little fluffy cat scared her and for good reason too. Not that she was going to let anyone know that. Her fears were one of the most private things to her.

Senescence watched as everyone finally ate their mushrooms. Truly, she was a touch disappointed at the fact she didn't get to violently stuff a bunch of the mushrooms down someone's throat, but oh well. Their discomfort would have to be enough, she supposed. Of anyone, Lux's reaction was perhaps the most interesting to her, if only for the reason that he'd been a Proxy alongside her before, so it was unusual to get a chance to see him reduced to this, all in an attempt to get is position back.
Rolling onto her back and stretching out, her stomach was exposed to the air for a few moments, a place that was perhaps one of the least scarred on her body, though even it was not left totally unscathed. Her head tipped back as her paws dangled in the air, a rather comical sight, but quite comfortable. "We may as well, while the effects take hold." She answered simply. It was a very fitting sort of challenge, for the type of cat Innocentia was.
Of course, nothing could be so simple as that. No one had seen the tom since.... oh, since his sister had died. By this point, Funk had probably assumed that he'd simply run off, or killed himself, or something of the sort. But despite all odds, here he was. He practically waltzed up to the group, looking down, or rather up at most the cats around him, as really, the slim built Lorah really wasn't all that tall. The smirk written on the feminine tom's features was both disturbingly similar and entirely different, giving the air an uncanny valley sort of feel as Eshek's little brother, just barely younger than a hunter's age, but already promoted by his dearly departed sister.
"Oh, I hope you didn't think you'd get too far without me." His light, lilting voice pierced the air, sandy eyes locked onto Funk. "If Eshek doesn't want her position anymore, then by all rights, I have to at least try for it, don't you think?" Something had seemed off about his presence from the start. Perhaps the slightly disheveled fur with scents of earth and who knew what else, or the vague light behind his eyes that didn't quite seem sane. But clearly, as he spoke, the tom was mad. Or at least, the cats around him would presume so. After all, Eshek was quite clearly dead. Everyone knew that, and yet he spoke as if she'd simply gotten bored and moved on from this place.

Any shred of enjoyment Funk E'tan was having in this moment was cut the moment his eyes laid on Lorah. Like all the air in his lungs was sucked out all at once. It left him floundering for a moment as he spoke, only more so as he finished. If... Eshek doesn't want her position anymore? But...she was dead. Dead? Dead. Deceased. No more. Pushing up daisies. More likely roses but still. His surroundings melted around him, like a watercolor painting left out in the rain. Closing his eyes, he could only see the swaying figure at the top of the estate, the... lifeless body of her. Once so full of life, but now she only laid still in the grave they buried for her back at the manor. But more imposing was the sound, the sound of the metronome swaying back and forth. In time with the silent tempo no one could hear. But it got louder and louder. It made his ears ring. Y'know, he could have forgotten it, all about it. Had he just... taken that deal. A thousand regrets washed over him. like every wound he thought had healed was doused in lemon juice. And the Nemesis was doomed to drown in it.
Had it not been for the light touch that brought him back. He barely registered it, not even sure who did it. But now the silence around them was painful. He took a deep breath, just to know he could. They were at the church, they were doing the proxy tryouts. There was no demon here, no hanging bodies or metronomes that droned on and on. His gaze was completely blank, staring more at the imaginary figure behind Lorah than Lorah himself. He should have called out how odd the tom was, everything about him that just spelled insanity.
And sure, the three in leadership may of all had a few screws loose, but they all knew Eshek was dead.
"Ah Lorah. Perfect timing, I was thinking you wouldn't show." The edge under his voice was less under and more his entire tone, but that didn't stop the light smile from gracing his lips, "Of course, I suppose we're under the impression nepotism is going to get us anywhere in this life. Everyone has done the first challenge, so you'd better get started. Here." With the stiffness of a robot, any emotion that wanted to well up was quelled. He couldn't. Not yet. They... needed to respect him. Grabbing the leaf bundle that laid next to him, he placed it in front of the small tom, "The first challenge is to eat any three of the mushrooms here. They won't taste too good, but nothing ever does in this life, huh?"

As if the tortoiseshell hadn't even noticed his rigidity, Lorah sauntered forward, trying to look cool as a cucumber, whatever that was, though when he caught sight of the handsome toms, really truly looked at them, the young hunter managed to trip and fall spectacularly, rolling head over head until he came to a stop sitting in front of the mushrooms, head tilted and wearing a somewhat bewildered look on his face. After a moment, he snapped back to himself, Funk's voice cutting through his mind. Oh yes, that's what he was here for again. "For the sake of your ears, let's hope these don't cause any permanent harm. Though, let's be honest, it takes a lot to ruin perfection." He sifted through the mushrooms, not even bothering with the plain ones. After all, the tom knew full well what Funk was capable of. These were no ordinary mushrooms, he'd bet on it. So, may as well go wild. Picking out three in quick succession, he marveled at their bright colors for a moment. The first was flat and wide, fiery red blending out into yellow at the very edges, with a short stem. The second was relatively average in shape, round and about as big as his paw. The top was frosted white-lavender, the underside a deep violet, and the bottom of the stem, where it had been picked, a rich green. It almost didn't look real. The last was a pinky-white flesh tone, irregular and small, with deep crimson droplets erupting from it that looked a little bit too close to blood, only held back from spilling over by a whisker thin clear film.
Without a second thought, he ate each of the crazy colored mushrooms, even the one that appeared to be bleeding, the red stuff indeed some sort of liquid that seemed to stick around in his mouth. Now, just to wait and see what Funk's drugs had done to him.

It was a strange tom stepping forward that broke the silence, his words and presence made every single hair on Reprise's body stand up. From the way he spoke, to the way he addressed her brother, there almost seemed to be an invisible wall that had been slammed between every single cat standing in the cold church. The she-cat stared at the cat with her piercing green eyes, he seemed odd but she couldn't quite make out how or why. Reprise knew this was a time to be quiet, whoever he was, his presence unsettled her.
She could tell right away her brother had changed, his eyes seeming to trail somewhere else into the distant. Reprise had heard of Eshek but knew little of the former she-cat. Ice-cold daggers spun in her mind, she knew something had happened. Questions tore at her like knives. Her gaze drifted over her brother, worry leached from her. She wished she could read souls and find the truth and lies hidden behind every cat here right now... oh, how it would make life so much for easier... if only.
Confusion clouded her gaze, as Funk simply welcomed the tom to join, as if the freezing cold emotion streaming and falling to the ground seemed to become invisible, his robotic movements indicated to her things were still not okay. She gave her brother a sideways glance, her gaze asking him all the questions she had for him. She knew he wouldn't answer, but she kept her eyes level.
Nora watched the odd tom come in, unsure of his wild behavior. She was fully aware the league has their fair share of crazy but this one seemed a bit too much. She seemed frozen as she lifted a front paw is if she was going to step forward. Only to set it back down as she nearly tipped over. It would seem all four paws were needed to remain upright. The spasms had traveled up her spine, giving the appearance of a shiver. This was so not fun, not that she had expected it to be a party but she had heard stories of proxy trials just being fights to the death. This mushroom business seemed so removed from her expectations.
“Is he alright?” She spoke softly mostly to herself as the tom ate three mushrooms. The question was directed towards his mental state. It was clear from the other reactions that three mushrooms could prove very dangerous, possibly deadly. Was this tom Innocentia’s challenge? Or was this unrelated? The timing to her seemed almost to perfect for it to just be completely random, right? Nora was trying her hardest to wrap her head around this nonsensical event that was the proxy trials.
Ruin was pretty sure he'd hallucinated everything that had just happened. How else would you explain this random cat coming out of nowhere, eating three mushrooms like it was nothing, and then sitting there like their life wasn't in real danger. But all the other cat's had reacted as well.. so that must mean it had really happened? His bright yellow eyes scanned the gathered cats one more time just to be sure, trying again to ignore the flickering figures and drumming in his ears. Yup, it had really happened. He scuffed at Nora's question, "We're all barely standing after one, common sense would say he's in for a trip." A shrug as he blinked again, fighting back those shadowy figures as best he could.
"Ooh! Ooh! Oooh! I got a good challenge, mister e- I mean, Funk E'tan," She said sweetly with a raised paw, bouncing up and down repeatedly, "Okay, okay, okay! So! EVERYONE, please stand on one paw. Whoever can stand on one paw the longest wins proxy!!" Innocentia said over joyously as though Senescence's test didn't count. Her yellow eyes gleamed with delight before they wandered over to Senescence, "Oh, but then if you pass my test you still have to go to the next one, but Senescence has to give you some sort of leg up in whatever she comes up with if you win my challenge. We recognize true talent here," Innocentia said with a paw over her heart sincerely.
The tiny white she-cat walked to the center in front of the cats, "Okay, so like this," Innocentia said as she picked her paws off the ground wobbling a few times, but managed to balance on one paw for an impressive amount of time... Too much time actually. Did she do this in her free time? And why? Was it just for fun? Was it to impress someone? Who was that someone? Point being her useless talent for standing on one paw was now being pushed onto the cats trying out. Innocentia put her paws down and flashed a smile back at the rest of them, "So if you think you got what it takes, balance on one paw," She winked.

The next challenge, this time is given to them by Innocentia surprised Reprise. They had to... wait, what? Balance on one paw? The creamy furred Bengal blinked a couple of times, trying to let the idea of balance being a deciding factor sink into her skull. She could tell Innocentia seemed strange, almost like a kit. The thought gave Reprise an idea. What if she tried to take the challenge as a kit would? But how would kits go about it? Well, they would simply try. However, even if Innocentia made it look easy, Reprise had a sinking feeling it wasn't. They were four-legged creatures. Standing on two paws were hard enough.
Giving the other competitors a sideways glance, as if to ask: "what the hell?" Reprise turned, keeping a sweet smile on her face as she turned to look at Innocentia. "You're balance is very strong!" She purred, before putting her other paw up. "Let me try..." She was starting to sway a little now, and so far she had only two paws up. This wasn't going to be easy.

Lux blinked several times, staring at Innocentia with owl eyes as he tried to focus, he was feeling more lightheaded than anything and wasn't sure if he could keep this up. Still he forced that ever so vexing g grin of his, his tone as chipper as ever. "Is that all?" He asked. "Darling, I could do this in my sleep" he purred. Carefully he would rise up on his hind paws, wobbling profusely for several moments before raising one of his paws up, to brace it against his other leg similar to that of a flaming go. Closing his eyes he would press his two front paws together in front of him. Fighting off the spinning feeling he had to trick himself into thinking he was standing still. He was quiet only for a moment before he let out a deep breath and began to chant "oom" in s deep humming voice over and over.
Okay. Ruin had just about lost it. Hallucinating or not this cat was not meditating in the middle of all this crazy? But he blinked, once, twice... three times and there he was, in a perfect pose that shouldn’t be possible for a cat to hold. The kitten like proxy as least seemed normal. This reassured him he hadn’t completely lost it.
He sighed loudly as he sat down, beginning to think the whole reason these cats were this insane was because of tryouts like this. Maybe everyone of these cats had been like him but one crazy test after another had broken them and left what was standing before him today. He shared that look with Reprise before rising onto his haunches, much like a dog would beg and then leaning to take his weight off one hind leg. He’d only be able to hold this for a few seconds but none the less he’d tried.

It wasn't long before Reprise's balance gave way and she straightened up. Of course, the sight she saw in front of her, was, well, slightly strange to say the least. Lux, was... he was, meditating? No, it was cool. Things were just dandy. Reprise's tummy didn't feel so good, but she ignored the pain. Pssh. Mediation? Oh, yeah. She should have thought of that! With all honesty, she could imagine her version of Lux's peaceful, graceful mediation wouldn't be quite... the same. It was a sight to see for sure. A bunch of cats standing around, everything typical... nothing strange. Well, if you don't count that one cat standing there, on one leg, not wobbling, defying all science... (Not that Reprise knew much about science). And we must not forget the weird "ooom" noise he was making.
In Reprise's defense, she'd never seen something so amusing in her life, that she couldn't help but a let a slight chuckle out, that ended sounding more of a choke. Why did she find this so funny? Lux certainly had confidence. "Oh, dear me." She wheezed. "Can we all get a second shot at this meditation?"

Innocentia fell onto her back in a fit of shrieks and giggles watching as the cats attempted. She rolled back into a sitting position wiping a tear from her eyes, "Lux, you're too much!" She purred, "I think Lux won that one! But Ruin was a good second place. Sorry Reprise, but you only seemed to stand on two paws. Some have got the gift and some just don't," She purred.

"Oh thank goodness." Lux sighed without even opening his eyes the tom fell over without even the slightest attempt at catching himself. He hit the ground with a audible thud and stayed sprawled out on the ground motionless.
( These may be over, but I still want to have Senescence's trial because it's fun, so feel free to continue rping. xD )
Unfortunately for the cats, things weren't quite over. Senescence didn't waste much time after this rising to her paws. "Come along. I want to get started before those mushrooms wear off, though I doubt I have to worry much about it." She commented, and without much further explanation, they were off, towards the city, the part beyond their borders actually inhabited by twolegs.
It wasn't too much of a walk, considering they lived right next to it, but she didn't hesitate to lead them into the heart of the city, until they eventually stopped in a side alley, with the cats now waiting for her trial to begin. On the way there, she'd stepped back only a moment to whisper something in Lux's ear about preparing to kill something. It was vague, but all in all, the former Proxy probably would best be able to come up with something along the lines of what she'd do. After all, Senescence didn't usually kill just any cat or creature she came across. And she wouldn't be so kind as to give them a simple trial.
So, while he left himself wondering what sort of death would come at his paws today, she waited a few moments after they arrived, simply watching the humans go about their daily lives. Eventually, however, she did turn to speak. "Your trial is a rather simple one. Kill a twoleg and bring back the skull once you've stripped it of its flesh." Of course, that wasn't so simple at all. Kill a twoleg? In the heart of the city no less? If one didn't know better, they'd wonder if she was serious, but Senescence hardly seemed the joking type.

Funk let a smile more jagged than a break in stone cross his face as Senescence announced her trial. It was the exact kind of trial he expected from her. It'd be an achievement of monumental proportions to any cat, but the Nemesis wouldn't be surprised if the Proxy hid a twoleg skull or two in her den. And the kind of wild request they should expect by now. A spark of amusement flashed across his eyes as he wondered just what kind of reaction they'd get.
Ruin chuckled. "Into the city.." He glanced at the cats surrounding him, he doubted any of them had had time to scout beyond the fence. "Good luck with that. I'll be here napping off these mushrooms." Those shadows still flickered at the edges of his vision and his stomach wasn't feeling any better. HE was beginning to think he might be allergic to the mushrooms he'd selected. "I'm not going out there unless I'm strong enough to come back."
