11.06.2022 The site has been transformed into an archive. Thank you for all the memories here!
Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
In order to start a new future I think it’s important we brainstorm a game plan. Of course this would all be decided after a survey and a vote and then discussed among the staff for what the parameters would be, but there's nothing wrong with thinking ahead a little!
Checklist for a Restart - Agreeing on a successful clan criteria/ preventative measures to ensure a clan remains stable, well, and helped [1 week] - Sign ups for staff members to remain on the team [hopefully less than a week] - Figuring out how to keep roleplay going [hopefully less than a week] - Figuring out a criteria for a clan contest [2-4 days] - Making a clan contest [2 weeks] - Figuring out who should be leader and how to figure that out [2 weeks] - Creating new layouts for the clans [indefinite]
SUCCESSFUL CLAN CRITERIA One of them should be establishing what a successful clan should look like. If we brought in new clans, but neglect to come up with a criteria on what makes them successful we could come back into this same conversation again. But if we had a criteria to checkmark when to begin to worry about a clan or if deletion needs to come up we’d be more prepared in the future to recognize the signs.
I made up a list, but I’d like feedback so we can change it according to everyone’s input
An Active Clan: Members: 10 or more Posts Per Clan: 50 or more Should the clans fail to meet this it could become an alert. Once you get four alerts a discussion will be brought up to help solve why the clans not doing well. Sometimes it’ll be because their are leader tryouts, other times it might be finals week and things are just slow. But if the clan continuously struggle and the discussion agrees clan deletion needs to be considered there will be a site wide vote to decide if the clan is deleted or not. (There would also be ways to work off alerts because clans falter sometimes and that’s okay)
STAFF MEMBERS If we decide to get rid of all the clans and now we have to rewrite everything we’re going to need more staff than just the admins and helper mods. We’ll need passionate moderators who are willing to stay aboard to help out! There will need to be sign ups if such a thing is decided. There's a lot to take care of, storing the forums, making sure we save everyone's cats biographies and keeping them in a well organized place to fish out later.
THE NO ROLEPLAY PERIOD The no roleplay period during this time would be very rough. With school having started we might have to extend the clan contest to a week in a half or more to give everyone time to get their ideas in without being stressed. After that, we'll have to figure out a way to choose leaders which should probably take two weeks. I’m guessing that every person who wants to be a leader can write a little bit about themselves, this way if people are a bit newer they have a chance for the community to know them.
AFTER THE LEADER VOTE/ CLAN DECISION Because many of us agreed that not everyone's good at layouts it would be unfair to ask for a layout in the clan creation contest. But because we agreed to that we now have to code layouts to whatever was decided. Plus we can’t start making layouts early because the clan leader probably would want a say in how they want the layout designed. Because of this there unfortunately wouldn’t be a members page for a time being, but maybe joining threads can get started. Layouts can take 1-2 weeks depending on what the leader wants and how much time the coder has. During this time some of us might already be neck deep in school and given the limited coders we might struggle a little here so we’ll just have to be prepared.
Worst case scenario is we’ll be without roleplay for over a month (It'll definitely take a month) so we’ll definitely want to think of something to do in the meantime so we don’t lose members if this ends up happening.
I don't know if this is already a thing or not because I'm new, but for active clan criteria it would be a good thing to have it so the Leader/deputy/MC/MCA must be active to a point within their clan (Of course taking into account daily life on-goings and all) because what is a clan without those things?
I know tensions are high at the moment. Things were said and feelings were hurt but at the moment no one is attacking or criticizing anyone in this post. It is a post to see what classic thinks of an idea just like any idea posted here. No one is currently saying you aren’t fit for your job I promise!
During the transition period, we could always have a site-wide plot of the clans and groups being destroyed. That way there's no "no roleplay period", and it would be easier for the new clans to be added. A simple, default layout could be made in advance that could be a temporary layout for the clans, to help reduce the amount of time it would take.
Also, faith, what do you mean by a sign up thread for staff?
I love your organization and how well you put all of that together, it shows each step that would need to be taken if a reboot were to take place, I think it would be a good idea if something similar were to be done if the decision to just cut back the clans was made though so that everyone could have an idea of both processes and what would be going into them.

I really love this idea.

Okay I will post back to this thread in like 30 minutes. I want to read it fully before I slam this thread with ideas that I had brought up in the mod chat. And also I apologize if these ideas seem random and don’t go with what is currently said but I think they are important to be heard?
I love Faith's list, and the time and effort that went into it!
I agree we're going to need more than just the clan leaders as Moderators, but a larger team of people dedicated to helping make the restart successful. I think several people also wanted to look at the Administrator system, and maybe be able to vote Admins in- the last few Admin promotions I remember were all people hand-picked (meaning chosen without the site's consensus). It's possible we may to see which Admin roles are necessary, or if they need to be updated too.

I also heavily agree that its time we have a voting system for Admins. I feel like the lack of user decision v.s Admin decision is something that needs to be worked on. Especially when it comes to voting who will be in charge of the site.
IDEAS THUS FAR (slowly gonna be adding these in as i go through 7 pages)
less clans, but brand new. created through a clan creation contest. probably 4 clans, 2 groups. maybe following a naming theme. (oceanclan?) contest in a thread, so layouts don't sway opinion
new leaders being decided by a nomination system
perhaps the entire staff being voted in instead of just chosen
more helper mods, since there will be only a few leaders
site-wide destruction plot in the transitioning period
new admin system. ie: voting them in
default layouts being pre-created to cut down on time
update activity requirements
new staff??
make sure that the next leader of the new clan doesn't remake it.
tba i've gotta get off for a bit
i guess there's actually no point in updating this since everyone is ignoring it oops
man this really took off I'm glad everyone is on board with a restart!
I just have a small, simple idea of how you would decide staff again with a restart:
vote.
usually, from what I both remember back then and have seen here in the new site, that admins and leaders are always mostly chosen by their formers. this time, let the people vote for who they want in power.
I never really thought that it was fair that it's just chosen by those already in power who's next to be an admin or leader when a clan is in need. just like we do with the helper mods, we should vote for completely new staff. I'd say, as well, the staff should rotate so that not one person is an admin for like 5 years in a row. there should be a checks and balances and terms of administration, just like with the helper mods.

Great idea! But we should definitely maybe make a temporary forum area to rp. I know people have complained about site wide gatherings and feeling it's too crowded. A site wide plot will be fun, but I think we should also allow members to make smaller rps reacting to the disaster so that way no one feels intimidated by everyone posting at once ^-^
Thank-you so much! I worked really hard on it, I know some of you were a little concerned about the admins not replying, but I'm like, "Gotta make it perfect first" xD

For now there should be a few separate threads, I think.
We have lavellan’s voting result thread, sunlight working on the summary, we could have the voting in moderator thread, and I can make a suggestion thread for ideas and suggestions regarding this.
