Underground black roots sprouted up into all fourteen territories. Shadows sprouted from the dark roots like trees sending an ocean of inky black waves across all clans until they were drowning in the darkness. Soon a dark forest rose from the dark watery depths as cats with black eyes began to walk the land the clans once stood on.
It was was the vision many apprentices were granted to see and the message was clear. The Dark Forest was taking over, the apprentices had to alert their leaders, but before they could get far one by one each chosen apprentice was snatched by the nape by a Dark Forest cat and dragged deep into a cave. The apprentices were each forced to line up staring into the abyss below that they would no doubt all be shoved into. They knew too much.
They could hear earth moving as a cat as faint and white as mist walked by each apprentice humming a gentle lullaby tune. Only his red eyes shone bright as a living cat. Only a single dreaded sentence slipped out from the dark forest cats mouth, "Throw them in."
The Dark Forest cats moved closer and began to shove each apprentice in, some Dark Forest cats even chasing and hauling back any apprentices who tried to escape their fate. Little did the Dark Forest cats know that at the bottom of the abyss was water. Deep. But only for a few feet before becoming shallow enough to struggle out onto shore. The abyss was so far down none of the Dark Forest cats could hear the splashes at the bottom. Only presumed death
Duskpaw looked around him, he spotted Frostedpaw and Timberpaw, they were from his clan and dread quickly filled his belly. He knew he was close to death when he felt the dread settle and the soothing feeling of acceptance lulling him. He fell first into the abyss and bit his tongue, he refused to scream, wouldn't give them the satisfaction. Only when he hit water his eyes opened. He was alive. But he couldn't swim... For a moment panicked hit him as he struggled, but his paws quickly felt around finding the shoreline. He was okay! He looked up, would the other apprentices be alright when they fell?
Sable-kun was one of the only Revolution cats among them and she immediately regretted coming. She struggled to try to escape past the Dark Forest cats. She should have been like the rest of the league, not care and just say screw them and sleep in! Why didn't she give into her lazy nature?

He was falling . . . Falling into the deep, dark abyss, endless in its shadows. He let out an ear-bursting yowl of pure fear. He was going to die! Yes, he had tried to run, to escape, but they caught him and pulled him back and now he was going to die and he never got to do anything at all and he was so young, too young. And then he hit the bottom with a splash. A splash? He wasn’t dead! They had fallen into water. Still, Sunflowerpaw didn’t know how to swim and, still extremely shocked, struggled until his paws caught the shore. He dragged himself out, coughing on nothing but air, and collapsed onto the ground. It was too dark for his liking, and the calico’s heart was beating so hard he thought it might explode. He could sense the other apprentices around him. At least he wasn’t alone. “A-are you guys o-okay?” He stuttered, getting to his paws shakily. “What are we going to do? I-I-why-“ He stopped abruptly. Now was not the time for his ramblings.

His heavy fur weighed Frostedpaw down as he hit the water below. His breath came out quick as he felt his way to the shore. Why was it him? He should have stayed asleep, cozy in his nest, not soaked to the bone and reeling from the shock of almost dying. He could make out the other apprentices, his own denmates included. “Everyone’s okay, right?” He asked. “I swear I’m going to give those Dark Forest rays a piece of my mind when I’m outta here. I’m going to rip them to shreds.” He growled, shaking the water from his thick coat. “Now what are we going to do?”

Her scream was bloodcurling, and began long, long before it was her turn to be shoved into the abyss. Rage sank into her heart, anger and vengeance into the young apprentice's very soul. Pandora was drowning in the negativity, in the darkness that wormed its way through her, chasing out each and every shred of light that had been bestowed upon her by the Sun God at her 'birth'. The auburn and cinnamon judge was burned up from the inside out, and yet, even then, a small part of her relished this darkness, took it in and relished it. It was a new feeling, both freeing and utterly terrifying as it tore her in two. As she hit the water, her shriek was cut short, and she hung, suspended, in the cold liquid for a long few moments, startled back into clarity as new feelings surged into her soul, a different sort of fury, concern and compassion mixing with the darkness and turning everything a murky shade of gray. Swimming instinctively to the surface, fox features breaking back to air with a gasp, the SunClan apprentice knew one thing as she swam towards the voices. She would never be the same.
"I'll be back for you!" Kaisra shouted as she fell. This fall was certain death, and yet she refused. Refused to accept that this was the end, that anyone would ruin her chance to get to know her family. When she landed in the water, she was frozen for a few moments, her entire body numb from the impact, but miraculously, she was alive. Now if only she'd listened to Eternallaughter on one of her visits to DayClan and actually learned how to swim. The Cadet floundered for a few long moments, the sounds of splashing slowly fading out as she figured out how to keep her head above water. Well, she learned something new about herself today. She hated water. Snow? Fine, but she was suddenly glad that Shule and Sean weren't some WaterClan cats who would want her to go around swimming in the rivers and lakes. Cautiously, she swam to shore, grumbling about her wet fur under her breath. Which, to anyone who knew her, was a quite clear sign that she was perfectly fine.

Cadet Pike had never seen a Dark Forest cat before. Of course, she assumed that none of the young cats that had been given this message had. Her heart plummeted to her belly as they shoved them in one by one. "No! The kits!" The thought struck through her body like a strike of lightning. It had not been long before that day that Superior Meepo informed her that her suspicions were true. She was pregnant. Her eyes fell on Cadet Serenity's form for a moment and the tears threatened to sweep her away. What if they don't survive? The darkness that enveloped the pit was menacing. She couldn't imagine what would meet them at the bottom was anything hopeful.
Inhaling a sharp breath, she felt her body being shoved and the release of a scream as darkness surrounded her vision and the frightening sound of silence filled her ears. The falling seemed to last for eternity until she was suddenly taken aback by the roar of water rushing into her senses. Coughing and sputtering, she scrambled her way to the edge where the others waited. "What just happened?" She choked out, her voice shaking.
Mysterypaw had flailed trying to lash out, her mother would've expected her to fight. But the grip on her nape was too strong and then suddenly gravity was taking her. After seeing what had become of Wolfpaw, she let out a bloodcurdling shriek... Then she hit water with a splash. She clawed her way to the surface and coughed and spluttered her thick black fur sodden with water making it heavy for the she cat. But she managed to pull herself to the edge to join the others, shaking out her fur and fluffing up, trying to recover her pride after she'd screamed all the way down. //--/// Skypaw wasn't able to see anything. She'd only seen what was about to happen in her dream... and not being able to see the ground made the fall all the worse. But she'd heard the splashes of other cats hitting water so she let out a breath of relief... then the rest of her air was knocked out of her when she flopped into the water. She too spluttered clawing her way to the surface, the water roaring in her ears she flailed confused in the water, trying to hear where the others were going. Figure out which way was shore, but the constant movement of water made it difficult, the splashing of other cats discombobulating her. "Help! Which way is shore?!" She cried as she treaded water as best she could, turning every which way trying to figure out where to go.
This had to be the dark forest. Serenity had heard stories about it as a kit, but he had never dreamed that he would be here himself. He had failed to give his message to Mars, both of them had. Both he and Pike were supposed to talk to Mars, but now they were here. For just a moment, his electric green eyes met and held Pikes gaze. His expression promised that he would find a way out of this for the both of them. One way or another they were going to live through this. He would not lose the one family that he was sure of. Even so, he was helpless to stop Pike from being thrown over the edge, helpless to save himself even as he was pushed as well.
For a moment, time stood still. He was falling through pitch black darkness, uncertain of what would be waiting below. What had become of Pike? What had become of Kaisra?
His question was answered soon enough. He could feel his entire body go numb as he hit the water. He did at least manage to bring his head up above the water. Swimming wasn't a skill he possessed, but he did at least manage to flounder towards the shore. Hearing Skypaw, he turned his head back for a moment. "It's this way!" He couldn't go back for her though. At the moment he had a one track mind. He had to make it to shore to see if Pike and Kaisra were among the others who had made it.
Skypaw's ears swiveled towards Serenity's voice, and she began to swim, more flounder, her way towards his voice. But soon enough she got to a point where it was shallow enough for her to walk on, and she quickly got out of the water. Turning her head in Serenity's direction she nodded to him. "Thanks," She meowed.

It's just a dream, it's just a dream! Starkpaw thought frantically to himself. He kept waiting for the falling sensation to jolt him out of his sleep, and that he'd be relieved to wake up back in his nest in the Earthclan camp but, it didn't. He hated this feeling and desperately wanted it to end. His wish came all to quickly when he his the water, the force of the impact almost leaving him breathless. On shaking limbs he stood in the water just tall enough that he could wade out as the water still lapped at his face.
He looked around frantically searching for the other apprentices he'd seen for sure tossed in along side him. "Is everyone alright?" he called out, as he made his way to the shore, though he was ready to rush back and help anyone who should need it.

"We are fine, I think!" Cadet Pike answered him shakily.
As soon as Serenity emerged from the water, she bounded towards him in relief. "Are you alright?" She asked softly, sniffing him over worriedly to make sure there weren't any cuts or broken bones. She pressed her cheek against his for a moment. It was a relief that they were still alive. With a wave of embarrassment, she realized she should have checked everyone for injuries. "U-uh. I am a guider cadet. Does anyone need me to look at them?" She asked awkwardly, shuffling her paws. What would Roon think if she was there? They all seemed alright. It looked like no one inhaled too much water, but it didn't hurt to be sure.
Duskpaw stared up, his wet tail curled around himself. They were so far down he couldn't even hear the dark forest cats talking or if they walked away. He stared into the pitch inky blackness as his mind refocused, "Pandora?" He asked, his entire voice shaking at the thought. Could she have missed the water? He wasn't paying attention, he had been in such shock.
His gaze picked across the crowd of pelts until he found his little sisters fiery pelt and quickly wove across the crowd over to her nuzzling her tiny face. She had only just been made an apprentice and he was about to be made a warrior soon and yet he wasn't strong enough to save her. If this was life or death he failed her. He knew his littermates were around him and instead found himself instinctively lying down for Pandora to climb aboard on his back. He had grown lanky and tall capable of giving her rides for a few more moons.
"NO! I'm not dying this way!"
Sable-kun had been pried off from a wall and thrown into the pit only to cling onto the side not hearing their voices below as she was still high up. A few of the dark forest cats appeared to be trying to throw rocks at her which perked Duskpaw's interest. He always thought a dark forest cat could simply move about through objects and through air at will. Maybe they couldn't.
Sable-kun slipped far down and for a moment it looked like she would fall into the water on her back, but managed to hug the wall again stopping, but this time she was in ear shot, "SCREW YOU! I'm climbing back up."
Duskpaw's exotic blue gaze widened realizing that Sable-kun was going to accidentally lure the dark forest cats down to investigate her if she didn't notice them and that they were alive. He quickly tried flinging his own pebbles at Sable-kun to try to get her to look at them so she wouldn't draw attention, but his aim was off. He looked at his Serenity and Kaisra and then spotted Mysterypaw. He didn't know why, but when he saw her at the gathering he had snuck into with DayClan he automatically had a good feeling about her strength and nodded to her as well to help him try to get Sable-kun's attention. Or really anyone's. Sable-kun was going to blow their cover.

Starkpaw whipped his heard around at the sound of Sable's retort. "Oh for Starclan's sake!" he hissed, jumping back into the water, wading back to where he had fallen in. Raising himself up on his back paws he used all his strength to jump back up the pit just enough to get a good grip on the wall of it and began to claw his way back up after Sable.
"Shh! you're going to give us away!" he hissed at her trying to speak loud enough for her to hear him but, not enough to give them away.

As she pulled herself to shore, she spotted her brother, Duskpaw, making way towards her. Pandora didn't need to see the relief, and the guilt on his face to feel it. But, for some reason, it seemed so, so far away, detached where it would have been comforting not an hour before. She watched him lie on the ground, and for a moment, she contemplated climbing up, but Sable-kun's yell distracted her, and she found her iridescent eyes turned upward, only to see a cat defiantly clinging to the edge. It took her longer than Duskpaw to realize the situation, however, and she watched him throw rocks for a long while before it hit her why exactly he would do that. Unfortunately, she wasn't big enough to have the strength to throw all the way up there, so instead she started poking a few nearby cats, showing them what Duskpaw was doing, and passing around pebbles to throw and help get Sable's attention.
Kaisra had only just found Duskpaw, taken her first step towards him, when the League she-cat's voice cut through her thoughts. Thoughts about Serenity and Pike, who she'd clearly seen were fine a few moments prior, were lost as she watched the young feline yell at the Dark Forest cats. She found herself smiling slightly at Sable's determination and attitude, only to have Pandora appear, poking her and pointing to her brother before shoving a few pebbles at her paws. Yeah, okay. Probably not the best idea to let this cat reveal they'd made it out alive. Hefting one of the heavier stones, the Mercenary Cadet's tongue stuck out of the corner of her mouth as she focused on the cat, chucking the rock as hard as she could. And then she noticed another apprentice starting to climb the wall. Was he insane? If the cats who threw them in saw him, they'd come for all of them.
Skypaw could hear the thunk and splash of pebbles getting thrown and she looked around confused. Was it raining pebbles? Were the dark forest cats pelting them with rocks now. she immediately crouched down and covered her head with her paws to protect it in case rocks came towards her.
Mysterypaw turned when Duskpaw nudged her and then she saw him throwing pebbles. Then she heard a voice and looked up blinking when she saw Sable-kun. Huh, that was kind of impressive actually. But also it seemed like the Dark Forest cats didn't know the apprentices had survived, and Sable-kun's voice or efforts to climb back up would only make the cats investigate. She immediately then understood why Duskpaw was throwing pebbles. Without hesitation she grabbed one and hurled it up at Sable-kun aiming at her side hitting her in the flank instead. Then she tossed another one. She heard some more rocks tumbling down and looked over to see Starkpaw climbing as well. Awesome, what did he think that would do? She threw a rock at him as well aiming to hit him above his snout to get him to stop. If he went into it, whoops.
"Look I'm sorry you died clan apprentice, but I have a chance at surviving," Sable-kun said as she continued to try to climb. It was only when she was pummeled by pebbles that she realized they weren't dead, "AAAAaaaaaahhh," Sable-kun cried out a fake scream that slowly died as if she hit the bottom. She slowly climbed down and made it to the shore as the only apprentice not wet.
"Heh, sorry... I'm Sable-kun."
Dark ashen colors spill across her pelt as if she flew through a storm cloud. Her eyes were a piercing shade of white like lightning shocking nights into day in a bengal pattern peaking along her long furred legs like moonlight twinkling through clouds. Her marigold gaze graced gently as flower petals across the dark background. Her face was triangular with a pointed nose and long plumed tail that moved slowly like wisps of smoke. Her hour glass figure walked ahead through the crowd of apprentices into the darkness, almost fading completely if it weren't for her starlit bright white bengal legs. She didn't want to see their judgment when they recognized her name was a Primal Instinct title.
"I'm Dusky," Duskpaw said to the few who weren't his siblings or clan mates, "Um... We should move further down in case those dark forest cats do decide to come investigate us."

With the cat down, and apparently from the League, so her name indicated, Kaisra set down the pebbles, almost reluctantly. That had been a bit too fun, and the Cadet waved her tail in greeting to the rest of the cats present. Rivulets of auburn brown laced up her legs, fading to nothing in the rest of her ebony coat, saved for curled wisps of white that wound down in a crescent along the left side of her face and across her cheek. Her eyes were a gilded Egyptian blue shade, sparkling even in the darkness as she headed for Sable-kun, offering a passing "I'm Cadet Kaisra. I'd say it's nice to meet you, but this is anything but a nice way to meet anyone."
"Hey, Sable, right?" She called, a curious expression on her face. Why a League cat was here, she didn't know. As far as she heard, she'd have thought that the Dark Forest cats would want to keep her alive, and yet she was in this mess as well. Maybe she was meant to be a traitor? Honestly, she didn't know, but she did recognize the name, which was perhaps what prompted her to follow the other cat. "You're from the League, right? What do you make of all this?" It was an innocent enough question, and Kaisra didn't really appear to think ill of her. If she was a traitor, they'd find out soon enough, but given Glowstar's relation to the group, she knew better than to make any assumptions right off the bat. Her and her littermates could handle this one cat, anyway.

"I'm Cadet Pike." The white and ginger cadet spoke up, glancing at each cat as they introduced themselves. Her ears twitched irritably as none of them answered her question from before, but she figured it was because of how shaken they were. None of them had expected to live after that fall, but here they were. Her eyes passed over each of their coats, taking note of scratches that could get infected. Fortunately, there weren't many.

with a small snort the bracken colored tom let himself drop back into the shallow water, and yet again waded back to shore. At this rate the others might just assume he just really enjoyed swimming. "I'm Starkpaw but, I suppose you can just call me Stark here" he responded nodding to Sable. Once back on the shore he shook out his pelt causing it to spike up and stick out on every direction.
"My name is Serenity." He had of course noted that his siblings were here as well, but he had yet to leave Pike's side. The young tom was a bit apprehensive about leaving her alone around so many strangers. He looked around. They needed to get out of here. If they were all alive, the dark forest cats would discover it quickly and they would need to be moving soon. He didn't want to be the one to point this out though since he wasn't exactly the type to take charge. "Should we try to find our way out of here? We still need to make it back to our homes and warn our leaders of the trouble."

Frostedpaw shook water out of his pelt, hearing the slight tap-tap of the droplets hitting the ground. "I'm Frostedpaw." He said gruffly. Frostedpaw was a large, pure white-tom, with ruffled fur and searching eyes. He was still shaken up, extremely, but played it cool. He wouldn't seem weak in front of these apprentices, especially at a time like this. If only he had gotten to Littlebird in time. "Now that we've established that everyone is okay, how do you suppose we find our way out?"
***
Sunflowerpaw crouched on the ground, his fur, which was still drenched with cold water, trying its hardest to stand on end. He was ruffled. Terrified, even, of what had just happened. It was dark, too dark. A seedling of dread and anxiety settled in his stomach, making him tremble. Though, maybe that was due to the coldness of the water. "What if we never make it out?" He worried, kneading the hard ground with his white paws. Sunflowerpaw was a delicate calico, with sleek, welly groomed fur. His green eyes were wide with shock and anxiety. "I'm S-Sunflowerpaw." He breathed. He was glad everyone was okay, but the question of how to get out of here was burning his mind.
Sable-kun stared up at where they had fallen, but only shadows and darkness hovered above like a thick black halo.
"I think the Dark Forest wants power and that they've likely found a way to make it to the world of the living. I can hear the spirits chatter and not all are good. But I've heard many speak of how they cannot wait for Slaughter Night. It could mean anything I suppose, I notice they like to talk in gorey code. But I do believe they've found a way to come to the land of the living and that something about us warning the others will prevent whatever they have planned," Sable-kun said, "And it's nice to meet all of you too. Especially you Starkpaw, thanks for coming up and talking me down."
Duskpaw stared down into the darkness and then looked back at cadets Pike, Serenity, and Kaisra, "You're Renegade so you're used to the tunnels. Do you think you could guide us all through whatever lies in this one?"
He walked over to Frostedpaw giving his shoulder fur a few licks to warm his friend up.
