Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
Splotches of red dripped onto the papers beneath her paws as she knocked over the cheap gas lamp, glass shattering as the gas spilled, soaking the documents and all flammable substances she could find as the fire gradually traveled, and finally it caught. The cardboard and paper flared beneath her paws, the blood droplets boiling instantly in the flames. Kicking more into the greedy orange heat that flickered beside her, Senescence dropped below the wooden desk, pushing aside a feeble attempt at mending the hole she’d secretly made in the wall and crawled through as fire licked the ground behind her, scorching everything in it's wake, flaring up like a wildfire in the dry, dusty interior of the building.
There were no alarms to alert the humans inside to the growing danger around them. The bloodthirsty beasts stood around the center ring unawares as their world went up in flames around them.
Smoke billowed into the sky, an ominous black cloud that could be seen for miles. Her paws left bloody prints on the cement as she padded towards the forest, her heart as black and lifeless as the corpses within. A long scar, long since healed, yet an ever present figure sliced through the rust colored feline's left eye, from her brow to her jawline as she glanced back with uncaring eyes of mismatched violet and haint blue, her crimson tail sweeping steadily. Screams were just able to be heard above the crackling flames, as brilliant sparks flew into the evening sky, bright against the darkening blue backdrop.
Senescence watched the flames for a while, until the world was black around her, the sticky liquid on her pelt long since dried to a crust. Then she turned towards the forest with dull eyes and her paws moved almost of their own accord. She didn't look back again as the sounds faded into the distance, leaving her with total silence, her mind blank in the oppressive darkness.
FLASHBACK END
It was a dreary day to be sure. Clouds crowded overhead, thunder clapped, and lightning flickered brightly through the air, lighting up the monotone world for a few instants, before everything faded back into the sounds of pouring rain, the brightness mere afterimages in her vision. This was the sort of day most cats would stay in their nests for, the prospect of food not even enough to coerce them out of their beds. Well, save for Senescence, of course. The russet feline had sat herself among the highest branches of the tallest tree she'd found on the Isle thus far, the branches swaying in the wind as the rain stung her ebony laced fur, a million tiny needles piercing through directly to her soul. Her head was tilted back, oblivious, or perhaps apathetic, to the dangers of her placement up so high, lost to her own thoughts. Her fur stood on end, and after a mighty crack, light flashing against her closed eyes, the smell of smoke curled around her nostrils, and for a moment the former proxy thought to stay where she was, happily ignorant to the event that just transpired.
But whether she chose to open her eyes, or instinct forced her to, the huntress blinked, head straightening out as her gaze zeroed in on a tree nearby, one that could only have been a few foxlengths taller than her own. It was lit up in a brilliant display, flames curling up into the sky in defiance of the downpour, the trees frozen limbs sputtering and crackling as they caught fire. For a few moments, Senescence was content to sit and watch the dangerous light as it slowly overtook the tree, the branches dry beneath dampened bark, a creeping fire that would consume a great portion of the old tree before fizzling out to nothing.
However, nothing could last, and even as the fire burned bright, the she-cat sighed softly, voice lost to the wind as she picked her way down to the ground, walking away from the burning cypress as dark smoke continued to curl upwards towards the clouds.
[i'll respond after she's a proxy, for roleplay purposes] "Senescene!" Fae chirruped from a nearby bush, her greeting muffled by a vole clenched beneath her canines. She knew the she-cat marginally- Senescence was in charge of the Prison Guards, so in a way she was Fae's boss. Fae was off duty now, and had gone for a meal before she had to return to the prisoners. The bubbly brown tabby had yet to notice the inferno in the distance, her yellow-green eyes focusing instead on the higher ranked she-cat. "It sure is rainy, huh?"

( Sounds good. cx )
Power wasn't anything new to Senescence. This was her third time as Proxy, though the first time to actually give her any decent duties, but compared to her time outside the League, this was nothing. That was a story from the past, however, and one she wasn't at all willing to share. It was interesting to reign over the few Prison Guards and Prisoners there were, but it was a task suited to her. She wasn't sociable, and her time as a mentor had produced cats such as Desiree, that, while physically strong, seemed at times to have been driven to insanity. Prisoners, however, were easy. Break them down by any means necessary. Not that this was much of a surprise. Her father was a former Warden called Rake, who many thought to have been a demon. Her mother was Green, better known by Glowstar these days, a former Assassin, Proxy, and Deacon, who was utterly terrifying when she wanted to be. That wasn't even including her littermates, or her uncle's line. To say power ran in their blood was an understatement, though as irony would have it, the family had made their power known in other clans, but had never succeeded in the League. One day, perhaps, though Senescence didn't much care either way.
Her gaze drifted to Fae, a bored expression written across scarred features as she eyed the Guard on her break. "It's raining? I hadn't noticed." The Proxy deadpanned, tilting her head and peering at the Guard in such a way that indicated Fae couldn't have said anything more blatantly obvious if she tried.
Fae, stubborn as she was, refused to offput. “Look harder then!” She replied brightly, her long brown tail flicking. Thankfully she wasn’t too wet- the thick trees where she was hunting blocked out a lot of the rain. “So what are you up to anyway? Are you on a break too?”
Senescence toyed with the idea of pitting Fae against all the Prisoner Initiates in a fight to the death for her own amusement as the she-cat spoke. Or, perhaps, recruiting Innocentia and her other relatives, to fill out the Prison Guards. Make them deal with her instead. Though knowing her luck, they'd all make friends with her instantly or something of the sort. Regardless, she really was in need of more Guards. Maybe she'd see if she could find a few interrogators within the League.
Eh. She could do that later.
As for why she was out and about... nothing had really changed with her new position. She kept to herself and roamed as she pleased, returning at least once a day to oversee the prisoners and roll her eyes at the uselessness of most cats around her. "Doesn't matter what I'm up to. It should have been a chance for me to not have to deal with the likes of you, but you seem to cling to me like a dog does to it's twolegs." She kicked a twig with a paw, sending the tiny, wet branch bouncing away a fox-length or so. "Now, be a good mutt and fetch."
"Don't be rude." Fae's eyes gleamed, dancing briefly from happy to peeved. "I'm no dog." The she-cats' tail drifted haughtily, nose crinkling. She believed herself to be a fairly good Prison Guard, handling most of the grunt work while Senescence supervised. "Just because you're my superior doesn't mean you're any better than me." Shallow as she was, Fae undoubtedly believed that she would be a better Proxy, regardless if that was the truth or not.
"If it looks like a dog, and it barks like one, then it's probably a dog, right?" The rust and shadow feline answered, giving the Guard another once over. As for Fae's following comment, she did suppose it could look like that. For all the time she'd been in the League, Senescence could very easily portrayed as lazy and undeserving of her rank. She had a tendency to disappear for days on end at times, generally coming back with random 'tokens' from her journeys, and even when she was around, the Proxy tended to lounge around, doing the bare minimum to get by and little more. Yet, she'd been chosen as a Proxy three times now, by three separate Nemesis, so there was clearly something about her that they saw and wanted on their side.
"Since you seem content on annoying me in my free time, how about we make things interesting? Pick out a place, any place you'd like, and we'll fight. I win, you go back to being by loyal hound. You win, I step down as Proxy, and recommend you to Solaris as my replacement." Maybe she'd be surprised and Fae would even have some tricks up her sleeve. All in all, she was bored, so this seemed like a decent enough way to spend her time. "You can even set the rules." On her face, Senescence appeared either incredibly arrogant, or incredibly naive, though her tone and the shrug she gave was bland and gave no indication to her true thoughts. She was risking her position all on one little fight with one of her Guards. And if her potential opponent really thought she was that much better, the scarred feline expected she'd accept in an instant. Her ego wouldn't let her pass up such an opportunity.
Fae didn't voice her opinion, but she thought the whole dog line of thinking was a stupid one. And as daft as she was, she wasn't a bad fighter. Her tail wavered for a moment, considering the proposition. "I accept your challenge to a duel." She stated, a little formally, and her eyes regained their frenetic energy. "In the marshlands by the coastline." The land was more spongey there- Senescence was bigger than her, and the texture of the ground would slow her down at least a little bit. "Not to the death, obviously- I have kits. We can just fight until one of us gives in." If she started losing she didn't plan on dragging it out- scars would only ruin her good looks. "Does that sound good?"
A sensible choice, though she felt the rules a little boring. Senescence was not a cat to give in, and though Fae said this was not a fight to the death, she would likely have to be rendered either too injured to continue, or unconscious, before her opponent could claim victory. But that was neither here nor there. They had a duel to get to. "Do you plan on dropping off your catch at camp first, or are we heading to the marsh right away?" All in all it depended on Fae's eagerness to fight the Proxy. By going back to camp, she could tell others, which could be either a positive or negative, though it was sure to bring a crowd either way, and it would allow more water into the marshland, making the land harder to fight in. It also meant that Senescence couldn't claim to have joked about the deal if she lost. On the flip side, the more soaked the ground was, the more difficult it would be for them both to fight.
Fae thought over the question, worrying her lower lip with her canines as she did so. "Let's just go now." If Fae had been 100% confident in her victory she would have requested an audience, but she didn't want the humiliation of losing publicly. Either way, she would attain a Proxy position if she did win. Fae quickly dug a shallow hole, dropping her catch in and haphazardly covering the prey with damp dirt. With her usual spring in her step, she started off towards the marsh land, weaving through the trees as the rain splattered and the wind howled.
Shrugging nonchalantly, Senescence followed at an easy pace, tail flicking water to the sky, only for it to be soaked again in moments. Of all the weather she'd seen, rain really wasn't the worst. Summers spent burning your pads on a metal floor, and freezing them to the earth in winter, would do that to you, one could suppose.
The land passed by quickly, and soon the earth grew wet and spongy beneath her paws, her large frame causing her to sink half a paw deep with every step. She'd fought in worse. A yawn escaped her lips as they arrived, the Proxy tilting her head towards Fae in apparent expectation. "Any other rules I should know about before we get started?" Despite the gravity of the situation, Senescence was surprisingly unaffected, even having half a mind to throw the fight for fun. She wasn't really taking the situation seriously, though she hadn't been lying when she'd suggested the duel. Whether her opponent believed her to be honorable or not, she would keep her word. There was no real reason for her lie anyway.
"Can we keep faces off limits?" Fae could handle a scar on her shoulder or thigh, but one on her face would be a detriment to her social success with toms. She paused at a larger open space, feeling the ground squelch under her paws. Her fur was damp from the rain, plastered to her small frame in some places and slicked into points at others. She blinked away the raindrops that ran down her face, turning to face Senescence. "Other than that, just a fight to surrender. And we'll both keep our end of the bargain."
Fae really hadn't fought in a while- she only used her power to torture prisoners, who weren't allowed to fight back. But she hadn't been a bad fighter, so this whole thing- in her mind at least- was up in the air.

"You make the rules." Senescence stated with a shrug of her shoulders. "We starting on go, or just whenever?"
Truth be told, the Proxy hadn't had many fights recently either. Well, with cats anyway. She was always out and about, so it made sense that she'd have fought some of the predators on the island, but so had everyone else, most likely. Not that it mattered, really. She was still in excellent shape and this fight would hopefully do something to sate her boredom. Hopefully Fae put up a better fight than she expected.
"On go," Fae said, rolling back her shoulders and stretching her hind legs briefly in preparation. A brief thrill of nerves shot through her, but she pushed it down, focusing her attention on the task at hand. "And... go." The brown tabby move slowly, circling Senescence in the open space between the thin brown trees, feeling the rain slap against her wet fur as the downpour intensified. She was waiting on her opponent to make the first move, her green eyes narrowed in focus as she waited and tried to assess what her next action should be.

What a boring way to begin. Where was the element of surprise? Then again, Senescence watched as the she-cat didn't even attack. So, rather than immediately attacking herself, the she-cat kneaded the spongy ground beneath her paws and bouncing once or twice to get a feel for the land. Wet, and wherever she stood, water pooled around her heavier paws. She'd be considerably slowed by the land, so she'd have to make her strikes count. Not that difficult. "You're probably the single most uncreative huntress I've ever met. Faces off limits? To surrender? What kind of pathetic League cat are you?" The Proxy commented blandly. She didn't really care much about insults, though she thought it might be amusing to get under the Guard's skin some. Egg her into showing her hand.
Her first move was unexpected, it wasn't even a direct attack at all. One moment, Senescence was leaning back, comfortable as could be and nearly sitting down as she watched Fae circle her, and the next, water, dirt, and marsh grass flew up towards her opponent's face. Barely two heartbeats passed before she was crowded in on Fae's space, fronts paws reaching for the other's forelegs to trip her and drag her down to the ground. Even if her initial move worked, it would only be for a moment until she either dodged the sludge, or the rain washed it away. It was only meant as a diversion however, for the scarred feline to get close. In this sort of fight, she wanted as little space between them as possible, for as long as possible. Anytime she had to actually take the time to move through the marsh for more than a pace, she was at a disadvantage. The alternative was to get Fae to scale the trees. Once they were there, the marsh itself would be irrelevant.
Fae turned a deaf ear to the insults, preferring instead to simply get this over with. She could play dirty when the time came, but she wasn't immensely invested in this fight, anyway. At Senescence's lunge forward, Fae reared out of instinct, preparing to plant her front paws firmly into the Proxy's head to drive her into the ground. She felt her back feet slipping in the slimy marsh mud, and braced into her stance to gain a bit more stability, in case Senescence decided to lunge further into her.

No reaction. That was fine then, and the Proxy almost sighed at the predictability of Fae pulling up and back from the attack. Indeed, she pressed forward, digging her back claws into the mud to keep from slipping all too much and stepped quickly into range, front paws instantly lifting up from the ground to dig into the Guard's stomach. Rather than use her hind legs to support her, however, she put all her weight into her front, dirty claws digging down into tender flesh, made all the worse by the she-cat's larger size. It left her head and everything else open, but to say she minded was to severely underestimate Senescence's care for injury. If it didn't kill her, then what did it matter if she shed a little blood to deal more damage?
Fae let out a sharp breath as claws connected with her stomach, turning away from the Proxy and letting herself fall onto her side to lessen the pressure of the attack. As she landed she threw her back paws up, slamming them into Senescence's chest and digging in, pushing her back as she did so. Since Fae was smaller, she was mostly pushing herself backwards rather than pushing Senescence away, but it would have the same effect, essentially.
