Littlestar was incredibly busy.
If truth be told, it was very difficult to balance all of the duties that she had. However, with her grandaughter being chosen as a Janus, it gave her more of an excuse to get to bond with her on an individual basis. A rare treat for anyone, but especially the members of her extended family who were all vying for the High Priestess time and attention. Littlestar had been on her way to the Janus camp anyway, carrying a large hawk that she had carried with her to give to the flames. She tried to give sacrifices when she was able to, and it was the perfect time to spend some time with Lacelily.
She stopped at the den that the young cat had claimed for her own, for each Janus had their own private quarters "Lacelilly" she called into the darkness, respecting her right to privacy "I have come to take a sacrifice to the Eternal Flame if you would like to come with me"uniqcrim

Even though she was young, Lacelily knew the voice of her High Priestess and grandmother and gave her pelt a few licks before quickly appearing at the entrance of her den. It had a lichen hanging that allowed her some privacy and she pushed passed it to see Littlestar standing with a hawk. Her little eyes grew wide at the offer and she dipped her head in respect and acceptance. "I would be honored to come with you." She still had a lot to learn and this was a wonderful opportunity for her.

The silver queen smiled, and motioned for her to follow as she picked up the hawk and led the way deeper into the Janus tunnels. The High Priestess knew every inch of them, though they were quite expansive. She entered into the temple, a bright flame burning high above on the stone steps. It was a miniature version of the Temple of The Sun, the place Lacelily had visited in her dreams the day she had been chosen as a Janus.
Littlestar climbed the steps, stopping at the top and lowering herself into a deep bow before the flame with the hawk still in her jaws. She sat it down close to the flame, but not quite touching it before turning to her grandaughter with a kind smile "Would you like to do the honor? I can walk you through the prayer, and then you can give the hawk to the flame"

The young cat followed quietly, taking in their surroundings and the situation. She had never expected such an offer so soon but it was exciting! It took everything in her to keep her paws still and calm as they walked. The silver tabby wanted nothing more than to shout and jump in excitement but she couldn't do that. She was a Janus. This was the High Priestess. Not appropriate. She took a deep breath but that was quickly stolen from her at the sight of the Temple. Sure, she had been in it for her dream but it was nothing compared to the real thing. It was terrifyingly beautiful and Lacelily could not tear her gaze from the expansive marble temple. "Wow."
It was Littlestar's words that brought her back to the currently moment and she blushed, embarrassed at the realization that her mouth had literally dropped. "Is it okay for me to? I mean- I would love to- I didn't realize I would get to so soon." Lacelily could not hide her surprise.

"Of course, in fact I insist. It would be an honor to walk you through your first offering" Littlestar placed her paw gently onto the small kits, looking down at her with nothing but pride and adoration "Repeat after me" she added gently, guiding the young kit's paw to the hawk and closing to her eyes
"The sun gives us power and life, and it is unto thee that we all return when our time has come" she paused giving Lacelily time to say the words "Today I have brought you a soul ready to return to you with honor. It fought bravely, but in the end gave it's life so that we may continue on. Sun God, it is in your name that we give this hawk unto the eternal flame. Please accept this sacrifice, and bless SunClan with your continued light"
One the words were said, she helped the younger kit gently push the hawk into the fire. Careful to keep the young Janus from burning herself

She did as Littlestar did, eyes closed as she repeated the older cats words. She stored this moment and these words in her memory very carefully. She would come back later and engrave these words into her heart. Lacelily had a feeling they would be very important and contained important bits of information.
She opened her eyes to push the hawk into the fire, grateful for Littlestar's help. She held her breath once the hawk was entirely into the fire, consumed by the flames. What would happen to the bird? She was surprised when it seemed to be untouched and disappeared completely. "Where did it go?" She asked.
(I thought I read somewhere this is what happens when it's accepted, let me know if its not and I'll edit my post lol)
"The hawk has been sent to the temple of the sun. It seems the guardian of the flame has decided to accept your first offering" she smiled down warmly at the young Janus, before swiping her tongue over her ear "The next time you go to the temple it will be waiting for you. You can use it to help you find out information from the ancients that dwell there. In fact a certain Lioness has been asking for one, so I am certain she would be willing to tell you a good story or two in exchange. You should ask her to tell you about the lion and the mouse. It is a great tale, though I can't do it justice"
Littlestar stared into the flames for a few moments more before rising to her paws, her duty finished "I thought perhaps the two of us could spend some time together. I have a while before the evening prayers, and Skipstep is watching my kits. This is your time with me, so what would you like to do?"

Her eyes shined with pride and curiosity and she looked up at the temple, curious. She would have to return later and reap the rewards of the offering. It felt good to have done it right and have the offering accepted. With time, she would be able to catch and gather her own offerings but for now this would do.
She looked up at her grandmother with excitement, it was rare to get to spend one on one time with the high priestess. Especially when she had kits. "Hmmm... I want to learn something! I have begun learning stories and histories, even a small amount of healing, but I don't know much about the territory, hunting, or defending myself." This was a unique opportunity and Littlestar had so much time and knowledge under her paws. Lacelily was sure that she could learn something unique and maybe even make Littlestar proud of her. Sometimes she felt like she needed to be the best at everything but there was so little that she knew.

The silver queen chuckled, quite surprised by the answer her grand-daughter had given her. She wanted to learn something, the Sun God truly had made a good choice in Lacelily "Very well, how about a two for one?" the edge of her lips tugged upwards into a gentle smile "I can take you on a tour of the territory, and have your first hunting lesson while we are at it. How much of the Janus camp have you gotten to explore? I know you only just moved in" she moved forward, walked down the stone steps with ease, where as the younger cat would need to hop down them one by one

Yes! She was so thrilled her paws thrummed with excitement. "That sounds wonderful! I have explored the camp a little bit but I've been pretty busy since I moved in. Mama threw a dinner right after I moved in too and ever since I've been busy. The dinner was fun, though." She purred. Lacelily had learned a few things about her family at that dinner too. "I wasn't prepared to become a Janus. I never thought I would become one." The silver furred she-kit admitted. She still had her kit fluff and yet the janus was progressing further than she thought quicker. It was overwhelming sometimes.

"You are already on the right path" Littlestar praised, as they slowly began to walk down the tunnels "I wasn't prepared for my role either, in fact I wasn't even ready for SunClan back when I was chosen to become Foxstar's promised. I was even younger than you are now, and I was preparing to take over WinterClan one day" she paused as the entered one of the chambers that was dark and quite. Pushing through they entered what could only be described as a torture chamber. Twoleg cages of steel hung from the ceiling by vines, various instruments and leaf bundles lining the wall. However, everything here was covered in dust from disuse "This is a chamber that I hope you or I never have to use" she paused, lifting a paw and wiping away the dust of a spiked choke collar hanging on the wall "This was used a long time ago for experimentation on living cats under Foxstar. She had a thirst for knowledge, and a taste for blood. She would capture enemies and use this area to get information from them. It was rather terrible to watch. I have been torn between converting this space into something more plesent or keeping it in tact should the need arise once more for it's use"

Lacelily gasped. That was horrible. She looked around the room, examining the unfamiliar steel cages and instruments. It smelled old, musty, and with a sharp tang in the air. She shivered and her fur stood on end. Something about this place just wasn't right, Lacelily had a feeling it was due to its dark history. Was Sunclan built on the blood of cats? She sure hoped not. There was surely more to it than that. Foxstar was only one leader among many. A clan's being and history surely could not be defined by one cats deeds. "I have not heard very pleasant things about Foxstar. I don't think torture is the right way." She shook her head. There had to be other ways to get things done. It wasn't really her place to speak on but she wasn't going to sugarcoat either.
"Sunclan's _has_ to be brighter than this... gross room." It was the best word she had to describe the room before her.

My hope is that you and the younger Janus can help me in my quest to make SUnClan what it was always meant to be. A place of life and love, burning so bright that one day this will be nothing but a dark blot in the distance" she paused, paw lowering to the ground
"Foxstar... She wasn't perfect, far from it actually. However, she took me in when I had no one. She was the one to give me a second chance at life when I had no future. For that I will always be grateful, despite the things she has done. I can not change what has happened in the past, nor the things I myself have done. You see me as some untouchable hero, but Lacelily I am only a cat. A cat whom has made my fair share of mistakes, and suffered the consequences. I can not atone for everything that I have done, but I can work to make both myself and SunClan better. To become a High Priestess truly worthy of the title, to searve as an example that it is never to late to change"

She looked up at Littlestar as she spoke, her hazel eyes sharp and focused on the cat in front of her, on her words, the way she spoke and how she said it. There was something that rang true in them and it was a sudden realization. Lacelily had idolized Littlestar from the moment she met her, seeing her as an invincible warrior or the sun god. Untouchable by the rest of them. But at her words she suddenly saw a cat. Saw the hairs that were poking out at an odd angle since the last time she groomed, the scars, the evidence that she had lived for so long.
Lacelily nodding, understanding her words and knowing that they would be important to her for a long time to come. All cats make mistakes. Even the high priestess. The tabby had yet to consider such a possibility and yet... it made complete sense. "I understand. I would like to see how Sunclan changes, but I like how it is now. I feel good about my life so far." She had so much left to learn. She spent her spare time fantasizing about the perfect world, the perfect mate, yet had not considered the difficulties or consequences that life may have in store for her as well.

Littlestar nodded "SunClan has already changed a lot since I took power once more, but I am not done with making them. Change takes time and persistance, cats to push though and ensure that they continue on" she led the way out of the horrible den,and back out to the more public area of the Janus Camp, the ampitheatre. The stonesteps streching upwards to where the janus camp began "With you as a Janus, I have hope that the changes I work on today will be continued for long after I am gone. This is the ampitheatere, it si where many of your lessons will be held. For now you will spend much of your time learning, but eventually you to will become a teacher for the clan"

She nodded, the ampitheatre was somewhat familiar to her as she had been here before. It was nice to come again with Littlestar and get an explanation. "A teacher! It's hard to believe I could ever teach anyone anything!" She exclaimed, chuckling lightly. "Did you ever see yourself becoming a mentor or a grandmother when you were my age?" It sounded like she had been expecting to be High Priestess so Lacelily was curious or if that feeling was isolated to her.

Littlestar chuckled "Grandmother yes, back when I was a kit my father had already selected a mate for me before I even had opened my eyes. Part of my duty was to continue our family's legacy, for I was the only one that could inherit his throne" she paused realizing that seemed a little strange, and that she probably though the cat she was talking about was Skipstep "This was long before I feel in love with your father, or even of him. Things in WinterClan were....different... than SunClan. Have I ever told you about Leatherstar?"

Lacelily shook her head, a little confused by it all. The idea of her parents getting to choose who she mated with and who she had kits with was not appealing in the slightest. Why had Littlestar just gone along with it? She wondered. Maybe she would come to understand more about her with the story she sensed approaching. "No, I've never heard that name before. Who was he?"

"Leatherstar was the one my father always intended for me to marry when I was of age. Back then he was only an apprentice, and I was just a kit. As soon as I could walk the two of us were always together. He was my best friend, and treated me with kindness. So when I found out that we were to be married later on I was thrilled. It seemed only natural, and being with him.. well it was easy. It was like we were born to be together" she paused, flicking her whiskers in amusement at the look on her grand-daughters face "Now don't look at me that way. If I had been truly unhappy, my father would have changed his mind. However, I was happy with his choice and I wanted to make him happy. So I never fought against the match he had made for me"
Her tail tickled her grandaughter's shoulder as they descended the stone steps "That dream was interrupted the day my parents died. That is a story for another time, but I was whisked away to SunClan. I believe Leatherpaw to be dead. He believed me to be dead. It wasn't until we were both apprentices that we met again. This time, I was SunClan's Priestess Promised, he a Prison Guard. I was bitter, and angry. I thought he had abanonded me to my fate, but at each gathering he begged for me to meet with him. Until finally I gave in. To give him a piece of my mind, if nothing else"

She was glad to have been born in Sunclan in that moment. Even with her grandmother's assurance that she went along with it and was not against it, it somehow seemed so sad and tragic. Lacelily wanted a beautiful, earth shattering romance and she would settle for nothing less. It was an all or nothing thing in her mind.
"That sounds so sad. So did you and Leatherstar have a tragic ending? What happened when you finally met?" The silver tabby was thoroughly sucked in to the story and she was careful where each of her paws stepped. She would not risk falling and she was still rather small. She still had a lot of growing to do even though she grew bigger each and every day, her kit fur was slowly receding as well and leaving sleek, beautiful fur in its place.
