Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
Steepfall cleared his throat as he peered down at the many apprentices of SwiftClan, most of which were looking up at him with a mixture of excitement and anxiety, neither of which he really wanted to deal with.
"Yes, I will be teaching anyone who wants to learn how to swim... uh, how to swim in that old pond over there. It's too shallow to drown unless you try to do it or attempt murder, so please don't do either of those things. I've assigned each of you a buddy. That means if you get hurt it's your buddy's fault for not stopping you from doing something stupid. Anyway, let's all start by wading into the water up to your flanks."
With that, Steepfall padded into the pool, the water hardly even rippling when he did so. He was a former WaterClan cat, so this was extremely natural to him. Not so much of the youth of SwiftClan, many of which had never been fully submerged in water even one time...

"You want us to get in there?!" Plumpaw's loud voice rose above the group as she looked with the water with unbridled disgust. The water was clearly very cold and Plumpaw was never one too hold back her true opinion. "Someone's going to drown if you just toss us in there," she was feeling stubborn and not ready to just go along with everything Steepfall said, she barely even knew the warrior. Maybe if her siblings got in she would follow but that was unlikely at best.
"Did you even listen to what I just said?" Steepfall groaned, already super annoyed. He knew this going into it but, dang it, there was a reason why he didn't have any kids of his own, "You can't drown here unless you're either really stupid or someone 'helps' you. Come on in, as soon as you're in the water you'll realize why I agreed to host this class." uniqcrim

"Marrowpaw, will you hold my tail, just in case?" Fawnpaw wasn't so sure about water. She was born in SunClan and was among the number of cats who had never been fully submerged in water before, "I'm afraid I'm going to slip or something! No I'm not sure how holding my tail will help but, dang it, it'll back me feel better about this!" GidgetGal

"Race you to the deepest part of the pool!" Jetpaw said to his buddy, Frostypaw, before bee-lining it straight into the water. He had never gone swimming before but he was the fearless, competitive type. He was sure it would be fine, probably, "YIPE! It's cold!!!!" biyuu ☆彡
Marrowpaw tilted her head curiously at Steepfall. Swimming? She'd never tried it before, but without any fur to weigh her down she supposed she'd probably be good at it. When she heard the Medicine Cat Apprentice called out her name her large ears perked up and she padded over to the other she-cat, listening patiently to her partner's explanation of her...somewhat odd request, and nodded. She wasn't sure if that would help either, but she'd do her best to comfort Fawnpaw. Bending over, she carefully grabbed onto the fluffy taupe tail.
"Woo Hoo! Swimming!" Without even bothering to wait for his buddy, Mountainpaw sprinted straight towards the water after his brother Jetpaw, interally trying to see if he could beat him there. The ginger tabby tom nearly crashed into the water right after his sibling, but skidded to a stop right at the bank when Jetpaw declared how cold it was and laughed. "You okay there, bro?"
"Okay, let's do this!" Fawnpaw meowed with determination as she edged he way slowly into the pool. Right away her instincts started throwing red flags, telling her to go anywhere other than here. She was a thin she-cat with almost no fat on her bones and long, fluffy fur that would only further weigh her down. In other words, she was not built to swim, but sink.
Still, having Marrowpaw at her side emboldened her, and it wasn't like she was going to walk deep enough to actually sink, "I-I think you can let go of my tail for now, Marrowpaw, just stay close please. I... well, I probably should have said this earlier, but I tend to faint randomly and if that happens I'll definitely drown if you don't save." GidgetGal

Jetpaw had slipped along the way and gone fully submerged. When he finally lifted his head out of the water, he looked like a malnourished drowned rat, his fluffy fur sticking to his skinny sides like glue.
"I-I-It's f-f-f-f-f-fine. I'm f-fine," He said shivering then reared up on his hind legs, let out a shaky battle yowl, and smashed his front paws down on the water, splashing anyone near him and most certainly drenching Mountainpaw, "That's what you g-g-get for wussing out at the last minute!!!" Limepaw watched with confusion as the other cats gathered around, finding themselves partners. He didn't feel the need to have one. But he would be there for his buddy just in case, yknow, in case the other apprentice had an accident and slipped or something. Because he was going to be fine. No way would he mess up this simple task. "Hey Tranquilpaw," he called, looking for his partner, "You ready for this?"
