Littlestar waited on Paintedcanyon to join her at the ceremony springs, her fluffy tail wrapped around her paws. She hadn't told the tom what the meeting was about, only that it was important. Paintedcanyon had almost died a few days before from a heat stroke, and it was only her quick thinking and cutting off much of his fur that he had been able to survive. She didn't know the tom well, only that he was the son of Mistyveil whom she was very close with. So Bravepaw's declaration that Paintedcanyon he was to be the next Soothsayer had come as quite the surprise. There had been no one to fill in the position since the death of the Sun God, and it was time to remedy that. While she was reluctant to choose someone so quickly, with the ever present threat of that entity closing in around them SunClan needed a Soothsayer more than ever.
Today she would tell him about his appointment, and guide him to the temple of the Sun for the first time, before announcing the promotion to the rest of the clan. Nova

Paintedcanyon wasn't sure why Littlestar had asked to meet her at the ceremony springs. It had come as a surprise, and he wondered what it could be she wanted to speak to him about. Of course, he had to wait until he was well enough to move. He would definitely be staying in the warrior's den for the rest of the summer months. Paintedcanyon let out a soft sigh as he shook his head before he continued along his path. The ground was still charred and scorched from the volcanic eruption. The tom shivered slightly as he remembered the day. Paintedcanyon couldn't help but drag his paw along the ground, watching the ash float into the air before settling back down. It would take a while before the ground surrounding the springs would be able to heal itself, not so dissimilar from the cats of Sunclan. It was a bit ironic, or so he thought.
The dark ginger tom slowed his pace as he approached the high priestess. "Littlestar," Paintedcanyon called softly, dipping his head to the she-cat. "You asked to see me?" racer

"Yes, come along" she replied, turning and disappearing down the tunnel at the top of the ceremony springs. Everyone knew that this lead to the Janus camp, one way in, one way out. It was a protective measure to keep their secrets safe, but one that had almost cost several members of their clans their lives during the explosion. The arrived at the amphitheater, where all of the clan was allowed to go. This is where Janus would hold lessons for the clan, training session for battle, and more. However it was at the top where a tunnel loomed that only the Janus, Soothsayer, and priests could enter "Paintedcanyon" she began turning to face the tom. At the current moment he looked a little funny with his sheered coat, but it would regrow with time "You have been chosen to become SunClan's next Soothsayer. You have proved yourself to be compassionate and kind, traits that I hope you will help me to install in the rest of SunClan. However, neither I nor the Sun God shall force you on this path. You can still turn around and walk away from this. If you decide to follow the path that has been chosen for you, there will be no turning back. I have come to begin teaching you in the higher mysteries. Secrets that once learned will change your life"
she stood, rising to her paws to continue up to the tunnel "take your time and think about what I have said. If you decide to answer the calling to become our next Soothsayer than follow me, if not you can leave the same way you entered. I will be waiting on your deision"she bounded on up the path, disappearing into the tunnel. Nova

To say that Paintedcanyon was stunned was an understatement. The tom stood there, completely stunned and dumbfounded as he stared at Littlestar, even after she disappeared down the tunnel.
He was to be the next Soothsayer? Him? How had they come to that decision?! He was the furthest thing from Soothsayer material, wasn't he? There wasn't much he could even do in Sunclan because of his coat. That had been proof enough when he had suffered from his heatstroke. Paintedcanyon swallowed the bile in his throat as he began to pace. This was one of the highest positions in the clan...! He'd be working directly with Littlestar and with Bravepaw, or Damek as he liked to be called... Oh, gods above was he able to handle a leadership position like this?! It wasn't as if he'd be leading the clan... that didn't mean the position he was offered was any less important... Soothsayer... and the high priestess had just dumped the information on him as though it were nothing! As if she were assigning him to some last-minute patrol! He didn't even have an ample amount of time to truly think this over... take his time... He'd need more time than what he was given. Still, he was being given the choice... it was just his nerves that made him feel rushed... but he knew that wasn't the case. There was another cat affected by this decision as well.
Magnoliablush...
What would she think about this? They were only just starting to really get to know each other and feel comfortable in their new relationship... this would definitely shake things up. Would that be fair to her? Paintedcanyon sighed. He wanted to talk to her about this. To get her opinion on this as well... he couldn't just make a decision like this alone. The ginger tom looked towards the tunnel once more... he could just leave right now. Go back to the camp, and be with her as a normal warrior. But would that be the right decision? If he refused... could he turn his back on Sunclan like that? What if... what if he was able to make a difference? What if he could play a part in the healing process... what if he could help bring the clan back into the sunlight...
Oh, he hoped Magnoliablush would forgive him for this...
Letting out a breath, the dark ginger tom stood to his paws and followed the path that Littlestar had taken down the tunnel

Littlestar waited for Paintedcanyon inside the mouth of the Janus Camp. It would be Paintedcanyon's first time entering her, for regular warriors were not allowed past this point. Even here underground the stone felt warm under her paws, as she settled to await his decision. She would give him as much time as he needed to make a decision, but this was also a test. How would Paintedcanyon react to such pressure being placed upon his shoulders? Were did his loyalties lie? If he couldn't handle making such a choice, than perhaps he was wrong for the position that carried such weight within the clan.
The silver leader dipped her head as Paintedcanyon enter, motioning for him to follow "This is the Janus camp. As Soothsayer you will be spending much of your time here, and there shall be plenty of time for you get to know every nook and crany within these walls. However, today I am taking you to meet your mentor. Someone to help guide you on the path of the Soothsayer" They entered into the temple room of the Janus camp. The standstone ledges growing upwards from the center of the room, atop a bright flame burned. The steps were elaborately carved, offerings left scattered upon them from herbs to prey.
"This is the eternal flame, a sign of the Sun God's power, and our connection with the ancients and the isle. Sleeping here will allow me to guide you to place that only those of Janus or higher can enter called the Temple Of The Sun. Once you have visited a few times you will be able to do this from anywhere that you sleep, but the connection is always the strongest when you are close to the Eternalflame"
Littlestar settled down next to the flame, the warmth of the fire and stone making it rather easy to slip into a comfortable sleep "I will join you when you are able to enter into the Temple Of The Sun. Be brave, for you will be tested before we see each other once more"

The dark ginger tom looked around in awe. He knew that there was an entirely separate camp for the Janus that only those in a high position were aware of. Paintedcanyon had always tried to picture it, but in all his wildest imaginations it had looked nothing like this. It was strangely... beautiful. His eyes danced along the carvings, and intricate details along the wall, taking in every single detail that he saw. It was amazing.
"My mentor?" He echoed as he followed the high priestess. It took every muscle in his body to avoid jumping at the sound of his own voice in the cavern. The way it echoed off the walls had made him feel so small. But Paintedcanyon swallowed his nerves and steeled himself, taking care to avoid stepping on the herbs and prey offerings that were scattered along the sandstone steps as he made his way up to the eternal flame. If Littlestar had answered his question then it had fallen on his deaf ear. The eternal flame... he had heard of the sacred flame. It was breathtaking and intimidating all at the same time. His green gaze narrowed slightly as he stared at it, feeling like a moth drawn to its brilliant flame. So this was how he would enter the Temple of the Sun...
Paintedcanyon carefully watched Littlestar as she settled down close to the flame. Be brave... he could do that. He faced down enemies as they stormed through the tunnel. He fought off cats that had risen from the dead. Paintedcanyon had found the courage then to fight, he could certainly find the courage for this. But this... it was far different. It wasn't so much about life or death. This was about being worthy. The tom took a deep breath as he made his way to the other side, carefully laying down and tucking his paws underneath him as his body quickly soaked up the warmth emanating from the stone. Tucking his head close to his chest, the tom closed his eyes and focused on his breathing.

When paintedcanyon awoke he would find himself in a stone hollow, towering far overhead. The stone completely encircled the area, leaving no room for escape. The walls were smooth save a narrow ledge that spiraled upwards to the sky, the bottom needing feet above the height even the largest cat could reach. Even though it was dark, the stone under Paintedcanyon’s feet was warm to the touch. The stone floor was smoothe, save for deeply carved groves that extended from the center. For a moment everything was still, until two glowing circles appeared on the ledge. Then another set of three, and another. Soon the spiraling ledge was a glow as far up as the eye could see.
then at the center of the stone circle, a flame erupted upwards, it flames reaching high into sky. The are was illuminated now, revealing that the circles were only cats, their eyes and a circled painted onto their foreheads staring down at painted canyon as the fire roared. A deep voice boomed from the flame it’self “Step into the flames” it commanded, staring into the flames a dark shadow could be seen. It was feline in shape, but far larger than any cat Paintedcanyon would have ever seen in his lifetime. As it spoke, the fire began to spread, running along the deep grooves, towards the walls

Paintecanyon furrowed his brow as he started to wake up. His eyes quickly narrowed as they adjusted to the darkness while he slowly stood to his paws. The dark ginger tom looked around, trying to get his bearings. The floor under his paws gave him some form of comfort as the warmth seeped up into his legs and settled within his chest. The tom let out a soft breath until a soft glow caught his eye. Paintedcanyon looked up his eyes transfixed on the two glowing orbs. Soon they were all around him, illuminating the dark cavern until a brilliant flame erupted in the center of the temple. Paintedcanyon pivoted quickly until he was facing the flame directly, staring around at the cats that now stared down at him.
The dark ginger tom cat swallowed thickly at the command. Step into the flame. Paintedcanyon stared up at the bright flame that danced and roared before him. His brow furrowed slightly. He had chosen this path. He would see it through. Putting one paw in front of the other, Paintedcanyon made his way towards the raging fire. For a moment, he simply stared at it, suddenly plagued with the memory of the fire that ravaged the territory and left it a desolate wasteland. All the cats they had lost... those that could not be given a proper burial. The volcano that erupted at the ceremony springs, nearly taking his and everyone else's life. And yet here he stood, staring into the flame that would lead him down his path as the new sooth sayer. Paintedcanyon took a breath, stealing himself, before he stepped into the bright flame

As Paintedcanyon stepped into the flame, the heat would feel all to real. The flames roaring loudly in his ears, the tendrils reaching out to lick at his flesh. It would be uncomfortably hot, but just as fast the heat faded. He would now find himself in a sandstone cavern, with carved steps leading up to where the eternal flame stood at the highest point in the center of the room. Tall dark caverns were all around at the bottom, to dark to see into.
A deep rumbling growl, so loud that it would cause his body to shake filled the air. When he looked up, Paintedcanyon would be face to face with a creature only heard of in legends. Even though Paintedcanyon was a good sized tom, this cat stood far larger. Its bight orange pelt broken by black shadowed stripes "Welcome Soothsayer" it's voice loud and booming, as it lowered it's head down to his level. It had a circle painted onto it's head "I am the Guardian of The Flame, and you have now entered into the temple of the Sun" now in clear view of the light coming from the eternal flame it was clear... The cat standing before him was a tiger.
Between his paws, Littlestar emerged "Congratulations"
