She stood with her shoulders back, prideful in the task she had today. Duskveil had worked hard trying to assign mentors, and they were finally ready. The ceremonies had been the night prior, and Aspenstar had made sure that all of the newly promoted felines, and their mentors, would gather tonight. The new apprentices sat in a semi-circle, the Loyal Guard they belonged to filing in rank behind them. This was her second time doing this, but she was excited. This time, there was a full class of apprentices. Nine of them, all ready to prove themselves to NightClan.
"Good evening, everyone," she meowed, calling the quiet chatter to a stop. "I have called you all here tonight because last night, you reached an important milestone. No longer children, you will train to be NightClan's finest under the direction of the felines behind you." She flicked her tail, before blinking. "Together, as a group, we will be going over the guidelines that will lead your training over the next few moons. Consider this your orientation. Does anyone have questions to start off? Mentors, you are welcome to join in as well."
Puddlepaw anxiously glanced over at Skunkpaw, scared to be doing this without him. Up until yesterday, he figured the two would be paired. He focuses his gaze to Spookpaw and Curlypaw, his new training mates. He couldn’t help but burst with pride though. He was to be trained by Aspenstar herself.
Ceruleanpaw settles next to his training partner, sitting up straight with his chest puffed in pride. For six moons, the young cat had been preparing for this moment. He had no questions. He was just ready to begin.
Both cats look over at Crystalpaw, Puddlepaw holding back a laugh, and Ceruleanpaw looking in absolute confusion.
"Hey, even if we aren't training pairs, we can still train together, okay?" he meowed to his brother, sensing Puddlepaw's anxiety. "Plus, between you and me, I think you lucked out." He gave his brother a small smile, before glancing to the tom to his right. He knew basically nothing about Ceruleanpaw, but he supposed that would change soon.
Berrypaw sat next to Crystalpaw, the two very seldom apart from each other. It was nice of Aspenstar to keep them together, although she was quite certain Violetglass tried to convince the leader that it was a bad idea. She tilted her head. "Beehives don't seem very fun. Why can't we ever go on a hunt for bugs that ... won't bite and or sting us?"
Aspenstar let out a sigh. "I would hope never," she started with an exasperated look in her eye, "but if you can't stop yourself, I would give Cana at least a day or two before she has to deal with you." She then turned. "Any other questions, maybe one that means something to someone other than Berry and Crystalpaw?"
Puddlepaw nods nervously, glancing back at the two girls who were his new training partners. "Promise you won't forget about me when you're the best apprentice and all." He nudges Skunkpaw's shoulder with a slight smile, attempting to put his brave face on.
Ceruleanpaw smiles, watching Aspenstar eagerly. He couldn't wait to prove himself to his clan. Being orphaned young gave him drive to do better. "When do we get to start learning?" It was a genuine question out of excitement, not one that was sarcastic or rude.
Violetpaw sat beside Rabbitpaw, his alert gaze focused on the leader. He was not-so-subtly ignoring the she-cat at his side; he'd seen her around a few times but before now they didn't interact much. Not that he really spent time with anyone who wasn't his family. This was about the longest he'd ever spent apart from them, but he forced his gaze to stay forward. If he strayed for even a moment, he was afraid he would cry.
"Your first task will start immediately and will be completed within the next few days. By the half moon, I expect that you and your training partner get to know each other. Together, the two of you will be responsible for learning the territory. We expect self-sufficiency from all of you by the conclusion of your training, and this will be early practice in using your pre-existing skills to navigate an unfamiliar landscape."
Her tail tip twitched as she watched th apprentices shuffle. That was a little harsh, wasn't it? Not giving them a guide? What if they got lost? Before anyone could ask, the leader continued. "At the cessation of each night between now and the half moon when the excersize is complete, one of the loyal guard or myself will patrol to ensure that no one is hopelessly lost."
