Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
Northernlights smiled back at the group of excited and nervous kits who were about to make their way out of camp for the first time in their young lives and begin their scavenger hunt adventures. She was sure, somehow, this meant to be a fun experience for all. That wasnβt the case for the new deputy and mother, however. Removing her soft gaze from her sons, she turned back toward the group of warriors sheβd assembled off to the side.
βNow I know I like to come off soft and friendly, like Iβm trying to win your heart or your friendship, and while I donβt deny that-β Her gaze grew hard and dark, mouth drawn into a tight line, shoulders stiff and poised. βI will not hesitate to unleash my wrath upon every one of you if you fail to protect my children. If they come back decorated in blood, I will transform this clearing into a crimson lake. Do I make myself clear? None of us are leaving until I hear an affirmative.β
Ice blue eyes traveled and landed on each adult opposite her.
Polarblast just stared at this crazy momma before him. In the last week alone, he'd head nearly two breakdowns regarding how he was. Breaking away from his mother's control was a lot more stressful than he'd imagined. Now this cat was asking him to protect, with his life, her kits? Yeah, he couldn't guarantee anything. The once over confident tom shrank back at the thought of responsibility, knowing he couldn't handle it in his current state. Besides that, she was threatening him in the same tone his mother had always used on his siblings, one meant to get the other to obey and adhere to what they were being told. His mind warred with agreeing out of habit and speaking up to say he couldn't actually do it.
(psst shadow didn't we have a thread planned for Polarblast and your cat?)
Northernlights sharp gaze softened slightly as the tom flinched back, but no matter how her heart ached for him, this was one thing she wasnβt going to let up on. Her children meant the world to her. As it was, the heir was beginning to wonder if Wintrystar had lost a few of her marbles, sending the children out into the forest like there was nothing that could go wrong. A lot could go wrong. As heir, it was her responsibility to see to the safety of every kit and student out there β how could asking others to do the same for her children be so much to ask? She couldnβt be everywhere at once. She needed guardians for her sons who were willing to take up the mantle, not flake under the pressure.
βPlease. You have to understand, at least a bit, the fear in my heart. I donβt want to lose my children. Iβll fight to keep the other young ones out of harmβs way, all I ask is that the respect is mutual.β
Frostcloud scoffed in disrespect, fury burning inside her. She had been far more edgy since her only kit was taken from her paws and 'disposed' of by Howlingnight under the order of Wintrystar over a stupid rumor that her kit was cursed. "Right. Because we would stand by and watch a pack of wolves pick off each one of your kits. Some faith you have in these adults that have their own families. There are six of us. Your kits will be fine." She took a step closer, narrowing her cold eyes. "And if you think you can intimidate me, you highly underestimate me. It is going to take a whole lot more than an empty threat to strike even the slightest bit of fear in me." She gave Northern lights a hard stare as she spoke, standing her ground against the feline with a swollen head on her shoulders. She went to turn away but paused and looked over her shoulder. "Oh, and a little word of advice for future reference...if you keep smothering your kits, they aren't going to know how to defend themselves, let alone an entire clan. If I were you, I would have trust in your clan mates and allow your kits to grow into the powerful warriors they are meant to be."
Polarblast was shocked by the Knight's words, so much that he was speechless for a moment. He'd never dared to stand up to someone of a higher rank them him like that, but the Knights were closer to the blessed than he was as a mere warrior. Maybe that made it okay? With a nod, and a squaring of shoulders he eyed the Heir before him. "I'll look after the kits to the best of my abilities as a warrior. It's my duty to the clan after all."
Northernlights eyes narrowed, but she held her tongue in the face of Frostcloud. At the end of the day, there was still a large part of her β one that lived in the shadows, unseen by all and spoken to by few, that was more used to the life of a commoner than that of a noble β that refused to challenge the knight, not out of fear, but out of an understanding that one must pick their battles, and a petty dispute over something that Northernlights genuinely believed in and feared the negative outcome of was not one of them. There would be many battles in the future that would be far more significant.
She turned toward Polarblast, small smile on her face. "Thank you."
Snakefang, blankly stared Northernlights, wondering why he, of all cats, was chosen to go on this venture, and with others he already had a distate for. Was this Wintrystar's way of punishing him? Or was there some other alterior motive? His relationship with WinterClan was already strained enough after what happened with his children. So why was he here to babysit someone else's? That didn't sit right with him. Refusing to speak, he didn't make any promises. Snakefang was petty, but not enough so to let something happen to the kits, as much as he didn't care for them.
