Ferventprayer had been avoiding her father since her blind date with Bravepaw. She hadn't had the courage to tell him about what had happened. How Bravepaw had told her that he was gay, refused to kiss her and then... then... Her face felt hot from embarrassment remembering the way Teneberousrequium charged in and kissed her. She hadn't been expecting it, and even more frightening she hadn't been mad. She had been crushing on the tom for a long tom, but hadn't found the courage to pursue it. Only now she wasn't sure what she was going to tell Bloodystar as she paced outside of his den knowing he was going to want a full report on her date. What was she supposed to say? That she had failed him again... Would he be happy that she found someone? or mad that it wasn't the cat he had selected for her? Jadie
It was a beautiful day even for SunClan standards. The sun was high in the sky, the breeze unseasonably warm to offset the more recent bitter cold. Bloodystar had called Ferventprayer out to have a sort of daddy-and-me date although it wasn't quite fancy enough to be one, just a couple of cats sitting alone on the sunstone watching the clouds drift on by.
"How did your date with Bravepaw go?" Bloodystar asked after sitting down a piece of fresh-kill he'd caught for the occasion, a rabbit he'd caught by the DayClan border an hour or so before, "Did you get that kiss?"

Ferventprayer looked nervously down at the ground as he asked the question about her date. It was the moment she had been dreading, that had almost driven her and the tom that she loved apart. Her tail swished behind her "Dad.. I have to be honest with you.. Me and Bravepaw are not going to happen" she winced knowing that he wasn't going to be happy about the news
"I tried... I really did. I went on the date and everything" she looked down at the ground "He was so upset that it was me that showed up and wouldn't even look at me. He said that he would never be with any she-cat... Dad Bravepaw is gay" she paused letting her words set in "maybe you could set him up with one of my brothers if you really want all of them to have a match?"
She felt the heat rush to her her cheeks "but... I did have my first kiss" she admitted slowly
Bloodystar's expression did not change by the revelation, but his tone of voice did, making the previously warm atmosphere strangely cold. Whoever this tom was that had kissed Ferverntprayer, it left little room for political gain, that much was certain. A small part of Bloodystar wanted his adoptive daughter to be happy, but the larger, more crooked part of him reminded him that she would be just as happy with Bravepaw, too, she just needed to try harder.
"That's a shame. The Sun God illuminated Bravepaw for you, you know... Same as he did with the rest of your siblings." Bloodystar seemed withdrawn and disappointed, "... Becoming mates with any other cat is not part of his will. Are you really going to turn your back on him like your mother did?"
"no..." she answered immediately, her cheeks hot with embarrassment unable to meet his gaze as she flinched away his cold words striking a chord within her that few could ever hope to reach. She had been raised up on stories about how awful her mother was, and how she had turned her back on everything that the Sun God stood for. How she had to be punished for her actions against him and was and embarrassment. Ferventprayer had always thrown herself in SunClan's religion, and knew it frontwards and backwards. She never rebelled against Bloodystar... at least not until now
But how did Bloodystar know that this was the Sun Gods will "you don't understand dad... Bravepaw made me look like a complete mouse brain. I tried really hard but he won't even look at me, if I had pushed any harder he would have tried to hurt me" her ears were back, feeling hurt and dejected by her father "He doesn't like girls, and he made it clear that I'm not going to be able to change his mind... so..." she thought that she had completed her obligation, having tried to follow the plan that the Sun God had laid out for her, and the revelation that he was gay made her think it was ok to explore other options
"Im not trying to go against the Sun God's will, but I can't change Bravepaw's mind dad..."
Bloodystar was silent, his eyes cast upward, he wouldn't even look at Ferventprayer for awhile. He decided at first to say nothing at all at least his daughter's excuses hang in their air almost like a noose. When he finally did speak, his voice was almost hushed.
"I was afraid it was too much to ask of you..."
He stood up and took a few steps away and paused, then slowly looked back to her. His celadon eyes were simmering ever so slightly but he didn't come across as angry or upset just... disappointed.
"Ferventprayer, your pairing with Bravepaw is part of something bigger than you, him and even I. It is essential to the future of the Clan. I don't want to hear your excuses, I want to hear what you are going to do to fix this problem you've created."

Ferventprayer sunk lower and lower, she had never been strong like her siblings not when it came to her father or the Sun God. His disappointment in her causing the young warrior to quake under his simmering gaze. He didn't have to a raise a paw to punish her, that look alone was enough to cause internal pain worse than anything he could do to her physically. She looked like she had been struck across the face.
It was easy to see the turmoil written all over her face
"I'll fix this...." she whispered.... she didn't know how, but he had left her little choice in the matter but to try.
