Since so many new apprentices have joined, I am working on assigning them mentors.
This pairing is Vintagepaw(racer) x Flurryofstars(Flurryofstars )
Since this apprentice is in the pregnancy pact, I thought it would be fun to have their mentors try and talk them out of it. Of course we don't have to do that though, and this can just be a normal training session. I will just follow your lead <3 Either way hoping this will be some good character development for Vintagepaw. She is a newer character of mine and needs some work XD ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------> Vintagepaw clearly didn't want to be here. With her blind date happening later today, she was distracted. She couldn't help but wonder who Bloodystar had paired her with. She hoped they were handsome, but even if they were not she had to trust that the High Priest knew what was best for her. Either way for now she had training to do, and she wasn't sure what her mentor had planned.

They were going over the borders, mostly for familiarization and less so for patrolling, but the enthusiasm for the lesson was beginning to feel one-sided. Sure, most cats didn't get too into this sort of thing, but Tawnyowl was practically dancing with excitement. More than once, he crossed over the invisible lines with the intention to explore further and it was a miracle he didn't do just that with his near-lifeless apprentice next to him. He almost forgot she was there.
"Hey, you've been pretty quiet today. Is something on your mind?" He asked with probing eyes. Mostly, he was curious to see if the she-cat would respond normally. There was always the possibility she was a zombie or something. One could never be too sure.

Borders... who could focus on borders at a time like this? Sure she was there and doing what her mentor had asked of her, but her mind was far away. Who had he set her up with? One of the H brothers? One of the new MoonClan apprentices? That could be fun... Or maybe even a warrior? She had been so preoccupied in her thoughts that at first she had completly missed her mentor's questions staring off with dreamy eyes until she realized that he was staring at her and expecting some sort of answer
What did he just ask me? She thought to her self blinking, really having no clue what he was wanting from her "Uhm... no im not hungry?" she guessed offering an answer to the question she wasn't sure if he had asked "Look I just want to get through this so I can go and get ready for my blind date tonight. I want to look my best so I can make Bloodystar proud"

"Uhm... no im not hungry?" Tawnyowl tilted his head, questioning her answer and how it related at all to what he asked. Unless, maybe he had asked her something else. Did he ask her about food? Huh. Vintagepaw broke him out of that chain of thought with her next words though, and then it all clicked in his mind. "Oh!" he mewed, brightening up considerably. "You're at that age now where love's all you can think about. Who will your special someone be? How will they make you feel? I bet you can hardly wait!" He spoke with a teasing lilt, finishing off with a laugh. "Honestly, I don't get it."

Vintagepaw readied herself for a lecture, but instead her mentor seemed to find her inner dialog amusing "Yeah..." she trailed off when he said that he didn't get it "What about you? I never see you with any of the girls. Did your first romance festival go badly?" she questioned more interested in what he had to say now that he was talking about the romance festival "I can't wait to see who Bloodystar has set me up with. He said that starting a family is a big honor, and one of the best ways to serve your clan. I really want the blind date to go well, but I don't know who he has picked for me. Maybe its handsomepaw? He is so dreamy, but Cherrypaw already staked her claim... Then there is the mysterious MoonClan apprentices. Wouldn't it be neat to get paired with one of them and be able to help open their hearts to the Sun God?"

Tawnyowl smiled at his apprentice's enthusiasm. He still didn't understand the whole love craze, but he was happy to see her talking again and about the right topic this time. "My date was sandy," he laughed. "But we had a good time. I was paired with Brightdawn for that." Being an adult now, he felt like maybe he should lecture her a little about all of this, but he got distracted by her talk of making Bloodystar proud. How reminiscent it was of the time him and Ferventkit (now much older) snuck off. She had said a lot of that kind of stuff too and even his warnings did nothing in the end. If anything, she seemed worse off now.
"I'm sure your date will go well no matter who you get though. Sometimes its the toms you least expect that will win you over. And if it doesn't go the way you planned, remember you're still really young. You'll have a lot more time to find love."

"But I don't have much time!" she argued "Me and all the other apprentices made a promise" she replied suddenly realizing that he proably didn't know about the promise and certainly wouldn't approve of it. She bit her tongue trying to keep from talking about it, quickly changing the subject "I have never been on a date before. What do you do on dates?" she questioned "You said yours was sandy??"

“We got caught in a sandstorm and had to hole up in a cave,” he explained quickly, not missing her rapid change of subject. “But what about you, what do you mean? About the whole apprentice promise that’s on a time crunch?” If she had casually thrown it into the conversation, he might not have asked, but clearly it was pretty important. “I won’t judge, okay? And after you tell me, I can give you some pointers on how to woo a tom.”

"Well... remember what Bloodystar said at the beginning of the romance festival?" she paused giving him time to think "well me and the other female apprentices decided that we want to do our part for SunClan! We want to start families on our own, so we all promised that by the end of the romance festival we would find a mate and get pregnant" she wasn't embarrassed by the promised, only that if they talked about it with the adults they would try to tell them that they were to young to be talking like that "Its the most honorable thing a sunclan cat can do"

(Whoops! Sorry! DX)
Tawnyowl blinked a few times until the silence around them was starting to become uncomfortable. How was he supposed to respond to that? "Uh, that's quite... ambitious of you. All of you..." he trailed off with an awkward laugh and turned away for a moment. Was it the most honorable thing they could do? Was this really what apprentices were thinking about nowadays? This type of stuff had never crossed his mind when he was her age! With a sigh, he turned back to her and schooled his expression into something that was less awkward.
"Vintagepaw, what you want to do is really admirable and you're right, it is a very honorable thing. But finding a mate and having kits is a huge responsibility and you have your whole life ahead of you. I'm not saying that you shouldn't or that you're too young, but I don't want you to rush into something so important. Take me for example! I'm a bit older than you and I'm still just dipping my toes into the whole love business. Sometimes I forget I'm even a warrior. I still have so much energy and curiosity. There's so much I have to learn. These are things I consider when thinking about starting a family and raising kits. Am I really ready for all of that? Are you?"

"Of course I am ready" she purred, though honestly she wasnt entirely sure. She didn't even really understand the full implications of this decision, only that it was the Sun God's will "It is what the Sun God has asked of us, and we must obey his will" she believed every word that she said, having been raised to follow his commands without questions "If I wasn't ready, then he wouldn't have put this mission in our heart. SunClan needs more kits, and I am young and strong. There really isn't a reason for me not to do it"
Vintagepaw held her head high, glad that her little secret was out and she didn't have to hide it any longer "Aren't you a bit old to be starting a family?"
Post by Flurryofstars on Mar 20, 2021 3:44:48 GMT -5
Tawnyowl listened to her and while he wouldn't choose to walk the path she chose if he was her, he'd said his piece and really, it was her choice in the end. He just wished his clanmates would stop using the Sun God as a justification for everything. In any case, he was about to give her his support when she came at him with the elder joke. Doubling over with laughter, he couldn't even bother to care that he was supposed to play the part of a mature mentor. "Hah! I'm sorry? What!?" More laughter. "A bit old!? What's your definition of old, exactly? Because if I'm a bit old then you must be about ready to retire yourself."
"Hoo man! Ah..." He cleared his throat and tried to straighten up again like nothing had just happened. "But know that you have my support in this mission. As long as you know you're ready, then that's all that really matters. So, what type of pointers do you want me to give ya?"

"Well uhhh..." she paused trying to figure out what she really wanted to ask "Well how do I make the toms like me? Like what should I act like on these blind dates? Its really important to make a good first impression and I am worried that I will mess it up" she was surprised that the older cat was supporting her decision, actually he was the first one to not chastise her for it.

"Well, I think I speak for most toms when I say that just being yourself is the best route to take. As tempting as it is to act like you're perfect, you're not going to be able to keep it up forever and you're gonna want to know that your mate likes you exactly as you are," Tawnyowl explained fist-and-foremost. "But I understand how important first impressions are too. So, I guess if you want a tom to take an interest in you, then you've gotta be friendly and willing to talk. Once you're on a blind date with someone and you know that you're interested in them, you could either be blunt and say it or you could use the signs."

That sounded like the same nonsense her parents had told her. Just be yourself. Just do what comes naturally. Be nice. Really now.. If that worked she would have already secured her match, but the moment he mentioned the sign it caught her interest "You mean zodiac signs?" she tilted her her to the side. Certain signs were more compatible than others, but she had never heard of anyone using them on blind dates before "What do they have to do with blind-dates.
Post by Flurryofstars on Apr 17, 2021 22:32:12 GMT -5
Tawnyowl thought about it for a moment. He hadn't originally meant to refer to the zodiac signs, but he supposed they could play a part in successful dating too. "Well, with those, if you know your partner's sign then you can come up with a plan to complement their personality with yours. They basically give you a bunch of insight into someone with one simple question, right? For example, apple blossom signs dislike confrontation, so you don't want to start a debate with them. They're also a bit jealous, so you could try to use that to pique their interest... And that's just a start." It was all a bit complex for him to work around, but he thought that was good advice... maybe. "But there are other signs too. Like body language."

"Body language? Like what we look for when sparring?" she was a little confused, only having ever heard the term when sparring with her fellow apprentices and when hunting prey.Vintagepaw blinked, tilting her head to the side "please explain" but the advice he had given her about zodiac signs was a good one. She had heard that zodiac signs were all different in personality, so it made sense to try and cater to that.
