Anemoneshade and Naturalgift are playing hide and seek in the Old Ruin. The ruins collapse during their game due to a tremor, trapping them both inside with no easy way out. strawberrycupidFlurryofstars

At first, her heart was caught in her throat. She had given birth to Bloodystar's kits before being unceremoniously thrown to the side. A good chunk of Sunclan didn't like her or the kits she poured all her time and love into. And that wasn't even considering the disappearance of her father and the death of one of her youngest. It had been a hard year, and Anemoneshade was losing her trust in the system. Honestly, she did not expect Bloodystar or Duskslayer to give her a good match. Any sort of way to kick her down again. But as she darted into the old ruins, giggles bubbling in her throat as she searched for a hiding place, her optimism was coming back.
It was the perfect kind of first date. Active, a little childish, just plain old fun. Her brown gaze searched for a spot before spotting a crevice in one of the walls she could squeeze into. Hints of white and lilac fur were left behind in the entrance as she worked to turn around. It was smaller than she thought, but she had become good at shrinking herself down.

"28, 29, 30! Ready or not, here I come!" The instant his eyes opened, his paws carried him at a near sprint through the territory. A giddy joy bubbled inside of him as he looked briefly to both sides as he went. When he thought about dates, this never would have crossed his mind, but he was having a lot of fun already. It reminded him of the same joy he felt when he played games with his children. Absently, he wondered if Anemoneshade felt that way too.
His pawsteps reverberated around him as he entered the Old Ruin, purely by chance, and he shifted into a stalk to mask the sound. She has to be here.It was too tempting a hiding place to ignore. Although, the ruins did give him the chills. Creeping forward he eventually noticed something small sticking out of one of the crevices; its white color contrasting against the neutral greys and browns of the area. He blinked at it for a moment, thinking it might be a flower, until he tiptoed closer. Fur? He lit up into a fit of giggles, quickly losing any of his earlier stealth. So much for sneaking up on her now. "Anemoneshade, are you in there?" he called, craning his head to peer inside the crack.

Her eyes went wide, field of view low as she watched for any movement in front of her. Anemoneshade clapped one of her paws over her mouth, trying to keep herself from laughing. She could see the strands of white on the rock, and she reached out to grab them. But then she thought of Naturalgift finding her sticking her paw out of a crevice and yanked it back. She hoped he was enjoying this as much as she was.
Then pawsteps stopped her thoughts. It didn't really dawn on her where she was until they stopped, and she fought herself on wanting to leave her spot but now wanting to get caught. But then a shadow stood over the entrance, and Anemoneshade stopped breathing. Though as soon as he started to laugh, she couldn't hold her own back any longer. "Darn. I was hoping to avoid you for longer." Despite the size of the crack, Anemoneshade was able to slip out easily. "Okay, your turn. Ready?" She asked, laughter still on her tone as she turned away from him so she could count.

Naturalgift grinned as the she-cat's laughter escaped the hiding spot, and he stepped back to allow her to exit. "It was a great spot," he confessed. "If the fur wasn't there, I don't think I would've found you." Blue eyes followed Anenomeshade's movements as she got into position to count, and he had to force himself to turn away. As fun as the game was, he couldn't help but wonder if it was a good idea for a first date. It didn't give them much time to get to know each other, and he was concerned that if he didn't make a good impression here, she might search for a different tom. Shaking his head, he reminded himself that the date didn't have to end after they were done playing. They'd have plenty of opportunities soon enough.
"Yep! I'm ready. No peeking, okay?" he teased and then started back the way he came. This time he wasn't concerned with stealth, focusing more on getting a head start, and he didn't think hiding in the ruins was a good idea for him. As it was, his fur was mostly white and fluffy, which made it just as easy for some to get stuck on a rock. His footsteps echoed loudly as he neared the exit. Where should he go? Before he could answer his own question, a low rumble reached his ears, almost immediately followed by the ground beginning to shake. "What?" the warrior stopped in his tracks, not immediately realizing that it was some kind of tremor.

"Oh darn it." Anemoneshade flicked the hair off of the cavern wall. It was still a good first date to her, gave her a chance to see inside his head some. But she hoped they had time after this to talk, face to face and not hiding.
"I won't, I promise. I tried once and all my kits shunned me for like a day." The fond memory made her smile as she covered her eyes with her paws. It was a nice date. She had no idea her wish would be granted so quickly. She only got to 7 when the earth started to shake. Pulling herself up on her paws, she backpedaled away from the wall as a rock dropped and crushed the ground right where she was. The tremor made her teeth chatter, and her shaking vision couldn't catch Naturalgift.
After several moments, the tremors stopped, and Anemoneshade stood on shaky paws. "Naturalgift! Are you okay?" She yelled out, her voice echoing far more than usual. They left in the evening, but it got too dark too quickly to just be because of time.

Everything was shaking. Blue eyes darted up to the ceiling, following the descent of granular particles. He gasped at the sight of the shifting rocks above and jumped back in time to narrowly avoid its collapse. Mounds of debris sealed off the entrance to the ruin, but Naturalgift was too preoccupied now to understand the severity of that. Everywhere walls were caving in and a mist of dust blinded him. In the process of dodging the path of a fallen rock, he leapt to the side, where his paws slipped on rubble. Thrown off balance, he tumbled over, stopping only as his head collided with something painfully solid. Then everything went black.
It may have only been a few moments later when his eyelids slid open. His skull ached as he took in the eerie silence of the aftermath. At least it was over. "Naturalgift! Are you okay?"
"Anemoneshade," he answered, quieter than he meant to, but the words echoed anyway. He lifted his head off the ground in what felt like slow-motion and gave himself a quick onceover. No other wounds that he could see, but he felt a warm liquid trailing down his forehead. "I'm over here," he shouted, not sure how to respond to her question.

Anemoneshade let out a cough, dust and debris bothering her already sensitive lungs from the fire. She could barely pick up on Naturalgift's voice, even with the echo. Her ears still rang, adrenaline flooding them as she caught what direction he was in. She ran towards it, and quickly came to his side. Lightly, she pressed her paw on his head and pulled away, a little shocked at the amount of blood.
But then her eyes flicked from his wound and her paw. And she realized it couldn't all be from Naturalgift. Nah, the adrenaline had blocked it out. And as it waned, her paw felt like it was on fire. Something must have fallen on it in the chaos, or so she figured. Anemoneshade couldn't really bare to look at it anymore.
On instinct, she curled up next to him. Maybe for companionship, or fear, or even warmth. The night would get cold quickly after all. "Okay, I think it's over. Let's take a second to get to our bearings." Her ears still rang, so she spoke loudly. The little light that filtered through the collapsed rocks made it clear there was little that could treat them here.

His vision blurred the longer he held his head up so he allowed his chin to rest on the ground again. He didn't know she was there until her paw touched his forehead and his eyes moved in her direction. She looked scared maybe? Squinting to help clear his vision better, he followed her gaze down to her paw and internally cringed at what was there.
As she settled down next to him, Naturalgift accepted her warmth gratefully and dragged his chin until his cheek was resting against her fur too. The volume of her voice didn't help the pounding in his skull, but it made feel more relaxed somehow. They were in this together and even if they were both hurt, they'd make it through in the end. "Alright," he muttered. "Your paw. Is it okay?" While he waited for her response, he worked on opening and closing his eyes until their surroundings were clear again. He knew he'd need to be able to stand when she was ready, and he hoped this would help him stay conscious for the task.

Settling next to him made her feel like she was going to fall through the floor. She hadn't moved, but it was like the weight of the world had toppled down onto her before falling to the side. She flexed her claws, letting herself focus on the pain in her paw rather than the ringing in her ears. Or tried too. She thought she did, felt the muscles in her leg move, but her paw didn't move at all. And even with the circumstances, her heart skipped a beat when Naturalgift pressed his cheek into her fur.
"It'll be okay." Anemoneshade let herself look at it again. Though her face quickly twisted as it dawned on her how much it was messed up. Her own eyes strained against the dark, the details of rocks finally appearing in her vision, "There has to be a way out. We ought to start checking the edges together when we can."

Naturalgift hummed, feeling more optimistic about the situation and happy she was handling it well. A few more minutes passed, and while he wasn't feeling much better, he was beginning to worry he might fall asleep if he didn't get up. "Okay, I think I'm ready now," he said as he pulled away from her. Even that simple movement felt painfully slow, but he willed himself on and pushed himself to his feet. His vision swam in and out as his eyes traveled around them, so he stopped and returned his attention to Anemoneshade. "You can lean on me if it's easier. I'm not sure how much use I'll be otherwise." Despite the severity of the circumstance, a small laugh escaped him. "Might take me a while to see much in here." strawberrycupid

It was too early to start getting pessimistic, though Anemoneshade could feel it knawing at the back of her mind. Slowly, she managed to stand up after Naturalgift, the two leaning on each other like two cards in a house of cards. Her gaze swept around, trying to make out any sort of exit. His laughter did make her feel more confident as she leaned on her back paws to take a step forward. "It's okay. Maybe you'll feel a breeze."

"That's a good idea. I'll try to focus on that," he said as they started walking slowly through the ruins. Naturalgift's eyes were open, but he kept them glued to the floor to watch for rubble while he focused the rest of his senses on pinpointing an airflow. Nothing strong reached him, but his fur gave the slightest of a ruffle to indicate a breeze. "I think we're going the right way. Can you see anything?"

While Naturalgift checked for a breeze, Anemoneshade's eyes strained for a hint of light. Though other than the hints of things in the smallest of cracks, she wasn't able to find anything substantial yet. Panic began to stir in her heart, but she shook it out. "Not yet. What about you?"

Her answer made him nervous and he noticeably tensed. He wasn’t sure how much time had passed since the collapse but he was almost positive it was still daytime. So, there should be some kind of light somewhere, right? He grit his teeth as he tried to fight down the urge to raise his head and see for himself, but he trusted her. With a deep breath, he forced himself to relax some. They hadn’t been looking for very long, so there was no reason to panic just yet. Plus, he could still feel the faintest stirring of the air and that was reassuring enough for now. “I think I feel a breeze, but it’s faint. It’s coming from... straight ahead maybe? Let’s just keep walking. We might not be close enough yet.” Already, he was back to focusing on the sensations of his skin and fur and a horrible thought crept into his mind. If they did find a gap to the outside, what if it was too small or too difficult to get through? Were they healthy enough to dig through rocks if they needed to?
