Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
"I say these words before both StarClan, our beloved warrior ancestors, as well as our former Deputy Dawnmemories, who with Starclan's blessin' is still 'ere with us today, so that both o' y'all may hear and approve o' my choice."
It was with a somewhat heavy heart that Ratstar made his announcement on the hill, but one that had to be done. The Summerclan leader had already waited a week, held out hope that Dawnmemories would make a full and speedy recovery so that she could resume her duties as his loyal Deputy, but alas, it was not to be. Graythorn's words had been clear; it would take moons for Dawnmemories and Seasparkleflash to completely recover from falling beneath the ice. It had been a straight miracle of Starclan that neither of them had perished, though they both had been on the brink for several days.
Now it was time for him to choose once again. His eye wandered the crowd, taking in each familiar face that stared back at him, taking particular notice of Orchiddrop, who was watching timidly from the Nursery. There had been a time, not so long ago, where he might've considered her a clear frontrunner. But recent events had made it obvious that the Queen had her own personal demons she needed to fight before taking on such responsibility. There had been others he'd considered; young Fracturedpaw showed a lot of promise, and he'd already decided on granting Batflower his former position on the Red Guard.
Fracturedpaw, for what it was worth, found himself taking in a breath he hadn’t realized he’d been fighting. How long had he stopped moving, stopped blinking, stopped breathing, feeling only the sheer panic that came with the realization that in this moment, his whole life could have changed? The orange tabby swallowed back the bile of anxiety and the flinch against the loud, crazed words in his mind.
A blue eye glanced to the side, as though expecting to find the source of the tantrum within, but he knew he would find no one. He who yelled emphatically about how he was a former leader and thus meant to be treated differently was only something he could hear. He closed his eyes.
Why am I being the adult right now, Shatteredrealm?
Shut it, runt.
At least they could move on from the horrible tragedy that was Dawnmemories and Seasparkleflash’s recent incident. The tabby gazed up at the new deputy, blinking blue and gold eyes. He wondered what kind of leader she would become. What kind of deputy she’d be in the next days.
At least this meant he could still see Sablekit, he thought idly to himself, blushing.
Rosethorn, quite frankly, was stunned. Throughout her entire kithood and apprenticeship she had believed herself to be inferior to her sister, who was the better fighter, the better daughter, the more selfless sister. It hadn't even been until recently that she had come to understand her own strengths- her wit, her clear mind, her perceptiveness. Once she had accepted herself, life in Summerclan had become easier- but still, she'd never expected she'd amount to much within the ranks of the clan.
And here she was, the next deputy of Summerclan. It was a heavy role to fill, with Dawnmemories still recovering and the clan still reeling from the incident. But for once in her life, she was awash with acceptance and joy. "Thank you, Ratstar," she said, clearing her throat so everyone gathered could hear her. "I won't disappoint you- or anyone else in the clan."
Orchiddrop slipped forward from the nursery, moving to rub her cheek on her sister's and congratulate her. Even if her own life was a mess, she still glowed with pride for the Garden Keeper turned deputy.
Per usual, Sunkit considered herself exempt from the rule that excluded kits from clan meetings, feeling as though she was an integral advisor to Ratstar. Which was becoming increasingly obvious with his poor judgment in situations like this one. Her fluffy pelt was floofed out and bristling wildly like an angry tumbleweed, and it might have been adorable on some other kit that didn't display such outright bewilderment. "Papi," she scrambled up beside the leader and stared long and hard until he bent down to hear her plea, "I thought we were exiling her." Sunkit jerked her head toward the newly crowned SummerClan deputy, still rather incensed about the last meeting where she'd called the kit (and I quote) "snotty nose."
Crow lingered near the back of the crowd and about as far away as one could get from the nursery, observing the unfolding scene with a mixture of interest and befuddlement. He had still not accepted Rosethorn's reasoning for lying to him, but he was proud nonetheless of her accomplishment and would likely mumble a gruff acknowledgement in passing later.

Dustfeather sighed inwardly at the announcement and shook his head sadly. He hadn't expected to be chosen because of his age. But choosing a garden keeper to be deputy? You need some cat with fighting blood and battle experience to be second in command of a clan. What would the other clans think when they hear this news? That SummerClan is becoming weak? StarClan forbid! He looked up at Ratstar questioningly. He thought he was getting to know him better since the time he came to lead them but now... he just didn't know.
Graythorn sat in his usual place for meetings, his fur unkempt and his eyes looking tired. He and his apprentice had been working around the clock (well if cats knew what clocks are) tending to Dawnmemories and Seasparklesplash. There were times when he thought StarClan was going to take them both. But now it was looking like both were going to survive their ordeal. He wondered about Ratstar's choice but figured he knew best.
To contrast Dustfeather, Largelight was thrilled for the younger she-cat, her thick cream fur billowing behind her as she bounded over to Rosethorn's side to congratulate her. The pair had become good friends over the past few moons, bonding in their Garden Keeper duties as well as their similar backgrounds in twolegplace. "Congratulations, Rosethorn!" She purred elatedly. "I know you'll do great!"
"Rosethorn! Rosethorn!" Grasslizard cheerfully chanted the new Deputy's name alongside Mudthistle, though glancing over at his mother, he frowned slightly noticing her concerned gaze on the Medicine Cat Den. Mudthistle had been close friends with both Dawnmemories and Seasparkleflash, and her concern was palpable. She trusted Ratstar's judgement - he hadn't steered them wrong yet - but it crushed her to know that Dawnmemories would no longer hold the position that she had been so proud of. She'd have to talk to Ratstar about the Redguard...
Ratstar's eye widened in surprise at Sunkit's sudden outburst, before the tom let out a fond chuckle and moved to give his daughter a reassuring lick on the head. "Sunkit, jus' cause you don' like somebody, don' mean ya can exile 'em," he patiently explained to the pouting kit. "For what it's worth, I like Rosethorn; that's why I picked 'er as Deputy. She's a loyal member of Summerclan, jus'. like. you." With each pause for emphasis, he playfully booped his daughter on the nose with his paw. The leader stared eye-to-eye with Sunkit for a moment more, before he suddenly pulled her close to nuzzle her with a loving purr. "Aww, you're jus' too darned cute!"
