Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
Sure, this was the second leafbare that Hystericstar had experienced in Fallclan, but that didn't mean he liked it. He had barely survived the first one, or so that's how it felt. For a hairless tom, the harsh leafbares of Fallclan may as well have been a death sentence. At least last time he had the luxury of being able to hide himself away in the medicine cat, but this time around it was much harder to escape going outside. As leader, there were actual expectations that he had to meet, and though he still claimed to despise the position, that didn't mean he was one to slack in those duties expected of him.
The moon was already high in the sky by the time that Hystericstar, the shivering mass of skin that he was, was finally able to escape back to his den. His paws felt absolutely frozen in the snow, and it was almost at the point where he questioned whether or not they were still attached. With his eerie golden eyes locked on his destination, all he could think of was finally getting back to his warm nest and his experiments. One freezing pawstep after another, he could do this. He was almost there.
Chestnutheart couldn't sleep the amount of ill cats currently in the medicine cat den made the sleeping arrangements uncomfortable. She had been forced to take a spot near the entrance which gave her an excellent view of who was up wandering around at this current hour. She saw the figure shivering as they walked across the camp. She looked closer and realized it was Hystericstar. She felt her blood boil and could of swore steam would pour out her ears. She quickly got up and whisked across camp at a fast pace until she was standing near the leader. "What are you doing outside at this hour!?" She let out a hiss through her clenched teeth trying not to wake their clanmates up.
The poor leader was just about to his den when Chestnutheart interrupted, and he couldn't resist a roll of his eyes as he turned his head to glance at her. "Freezing, obviously," Hystericstar replied, ignoring the constant itch in his throat. The cold always seemed to make his coughing worse, and so his throat was constantly bugging him this time of year. Seriously, why did he decide that a mountain clan was a good place to live? Shaking his head, he put a paw out in front of him, motioning to his den. "Now, do you mind? I for one am not the biggest fan of the place you decided to stop me at. Unless you intend to turn me into an icicle?" Couldn't her mother-henning wait until after he was warm? Though, it wasn't like he actually took her worries to heart, if the amount of times that he repeated doing the things the medicine cat yelled at him for doing in the first place was anything to go by.
"Icicle! You shouldn't of been out of your den at this hour in the first place!" She exclaimed she felt her tail puff up expressing her mild distaste at the idea.
"If you catch a cold worse than the one your normally have, and I spend the next moon treating you for greencough because your stubborn and outside a moon high. I swear to Starclan I will bring the ancestors down on you." Her threat would of probably scared most Fallclan apprentices and a few warriors, but it wasn't a serious one aimed at the leader.
"Sometimes I wish you would just grow fur like a normal cat. Now I'm going to get my herbs and when I come back, I better find you in your den." She stated as she turned on her paws and padded back towards her den giving Hystericstar little room to speak.
Throughout her scolding, Hystericstar had never even bothered to attempt to say anything, knowing he wouldn't even be able to get a word in. So, he merely stood, shivering as he waited for Chestnutheart to finish. Did she happen to realize the irony of yelling at him for being out in the cold, while keeping him out in the cold? No, she was probably too caught up in this motherly rant of hers.
Finally, after a very cold minute, Chestnutheart walked away, and Hystericstar would only roll his eyes as he watched her go. Sometimes I wish you would just grow fur like a normal cat. The sentence repeated in his head as he finally stepped paw into his den, but then froze for a moment. "Well, that's an idea," he muttered, golden gaze slipping to his small stockpile of herbs that he squirreled away for his own experiments. Later, he reminded himself, knowing that the medicine cat was only going to be a few more moments. He might as well use this time to attempt to warm up in the back of his den.
