Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
"Killed cats but not in the murdery way. What in the world does that even mean? You an evil villain who makes someone else do their dirty work? Startin' to sound like it, Peachyboy." He was slowly starting to fascinate her. "Hmm, set fire to any buildings lately? Cursed a clan because you misunderstood a prophecy?"
"Mmmm," Peachblush nodded. Evil villain. Sounded about right. The thing about cursing a Clan felt kind of accurate too, even if Frenzy had the wrong reasoning. "No arson," he promised her, "but I did screw over at least two Clans. Well, one Clan, and one not-quite-a-Clan."
"D'you lead them, or were you just a harbringer of despair and destruction?" Maybe she was finally getting somewhere, maybe the pieces were fitting together. Probably not, but she was for the first time having some sort of faith that maybe she could figure out exactly what was going on.
She looked at him inquisitively. Had she struck a nerve? "Well, if you're just a harbringer of doom without a fancy title, that probably means you're extra sent from the heaven's to destroy the forest, but if you just made some poor decisions, that's less scary?"
"I do have a fancy title, to be honest." Peachblush twitched a whisker. "In DayClan, anyway. Peachblush the Destroyer. Glowstar had a strange sense of humour."
"Peachblush the Destroyer." She repeated with the cat equivalent of a raised brow. "Seems... like it doesn't fit that well," she fought the urge to poke him to prove he wasn't much... destroyer material. "But, Glowstar was probably an old bat anyways, so I guess."
Peachblush snorted. "Yeah. You wouldn't think it would fit, but somehow..." He trailed off, thinking back to the time he'd spent with Glowstar, however few moments they'd actually shared together. "...She was an old bat, but a good old bat. When she wasn't partaking in old bat-ery."
She found herself laughing slightly. "There were times where she wasn't partaking in old bat-ery?" Frenzy looked incredulous, but maybe it was only because only the shenanigans got reported throughout the forest.
"You're right," Peachblush smiled, in spite of himself. "Glowstar came out of the womb an old bat."
His smile faded as the memories flooded back in. "I miss her, oddly. Not that we really interacted much, apart from when our Clans got--well. Captured. No other way to put it, really. Sorry, I must be boring you."
Frenzy frowned slightly. "Nah," she meowed, pawing the air in front of me. "Nothing's boring about a history lesson, mmmm?" She sounded surprisingly genuine, although most cats often skipped over the government suggested Public History of the Forest 101. "It's nice to finally talk to someone who isn't helping me fight a chimp, anyways."
"...What was a chimp doing in SwiftClan terri--you know what, I don't want to know," Peachblush muttered, closing his eyes. Maybe SwiftClan wasn't actually the best choice for a relaxing vacation after all. Maybe he should've signed up with the Regime. They had last names now, which felt very civilised, and proper, and everything else a chimp was not.
"It was SunClan and NightClan," he finally said, after a few moments more of desparing over his life choices. "NightClan--Burningstar, at the time--attacked the SpringClan camp, and SunClan attacked DayClan. Then they kept us captive until we broke free. They, more like. I didn't have much part in it." He'd been far too diplomatic--cowardly--at a time when his Clan had needed a rebel. It was a bad fit for him. It always had been.
"That's probably fair to not want to know," she agreed with a quick ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ before letting him continue. "Rough," she meowed after a moment, scuffing her paws together. She'd finally got his story, or at least, some part of it, and now she wasn't entirely sure what to say. It felt bad to just stop with 'rough', though. Surely, she could come up with something better?
After a moment just long enough to become awkward, she cleared her voice. "Look, you probably made the choices that you thought were best, right? Happens to the best of us, we can't always get it right. Hindsight is 2020, but foresight sure aint." She tried, clearly not used to offering words of comfort or solace.
She flicked her ear in recognition of his thanks, before sighing. "Well, I guess that depends; what do you want to know?" Frenzy was sure that she could come up with a lot to say, but what about her life was important? Probably none of it. She wasn't Peachblush, or any cat who had a hero or villain arch, at least not really. She'd accomplished nothing great in her moons, and she'd slowly become accustomed to the fact that she probably never would. Still, it felt bad not to tell him anything.
"The abridged version was I was born a loner, traveled the world for a bit, got caught up in some family drama, brother killed my mom, after my mom was dead what the hell was I supposed to do with my brother, instead of dealing with that problem I disappeared into the night, maybe one day my inability to manage conflict in a timely manner will catch up to me." She let out an awkward laugh. "After that, I ended up here. No particular goals, no particular accomplishments, only vibes."
Oh, to be on the move again. Even in SwiftClan, who literally moved territories once a season, Peachblush couldn't keep his wanderlust under control. "Vibes are a totally valid reason to move around," he replied--and he had to, because vibes were basically the reason he'd stepped down from two leaderships now. "I'm very sorry about your family, by the way."
Frenzy laughed. "I'm glad someone is on the same page as me," she responded to his comment about vibes. "I felt like I was the only one." Her lips twitched into an amused smile. When he said the last part, Frenzy shrugged. "It happens to the best of us, right? But thanks, Peachblush, that was sweet."
She then rose from her position, flexing her muscles slightly. "Want to blow this popsicle stand? I hear that the vibes on the other side of the ThunderClan territory were immaculate, but I haven't had anyone to go check it out with me."
"Sure," Peachblush said, rising to his paws. Truth be told, some fresh air would probably do him some good, given how existential and mopey he was becoming around camp. Perhaps the journey he took back and forth from DayClan and ThunderClan was taking more out of him than he thought. "You lead the way."
She nodded to him, before slowly shifting her weight to walk. She only had a slight idea of where she was going, but she figured that if nothing else, he probably didn't know much where he would be going if he was in the lead.
They padded along in silence until they reached a large two-leg path, signaling the end to ThunderClan's territory. Her nose immediately wrinkled. "All of the territory around here stinks, but this is particularly bad," she grumbled, before glancing to Peachblush. "You want to take the first run across?"
Peachblush grimaced as he eyed up the path stretched out before them. StarClan, he hated this Thunderpath. He had to cross it every time he went back and forth between his two Clans, and he'd almost died on it about...sixty percent of the time, he would estimate.
Without a second word to Frenzy, he darted across the Thunderpath--after looking both ways. OH GOD OH GOD OH GOD, he thought, but landed on the other side with nary a scratch. ...Pastelchaos would be proud.
