Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
When the cheers for the newly-named warriors died down, Ratstar took a deep breath, lifting his tail to silence the crowd.
“Y’all saw the smoke in the sky, jus’ as I did. A war against Sunclan by Dayclan an’ Nightclan; where Sunclan’s home burst into flames an’ Moonclan was driven from their own. Word of a plague in Fallclan, accusations of stolen kits between Winterclan and Dayclan, and Swiftclan is gone…I don’ know if they’ll ever come back.”
Ratstar stood alone at the top of the garden hill, overlooking Summerclan’s camp and the huddled cats staring back up at him. He paused, letting his words hang in the chilly air, as the cloud of air from his breathing slowly floated upwards into the sky, not too dissimilar from the plume of smoke and ash he had seen just a few weeks ago. The dark tabby loved being Summerclan’s leader, and all the responsibility that came with the clan, but he would be lying if he said he liked the politics that came with it. In all frankness, he loathed the full-moon gatherings; where the other leaders would sweeten each other with jokes and fake flattery, only to turn tooth and claw against one another days later. No, Ratstar refused to play that game.
“That billowing smoke was a sign from Starclan; the Forest Clans and even our own neighbors are too unstable to associate with. An’ with the comin’ Leaf-Bare, where hungry mouths lead to desperation, dealin’ with ‘em becomes an even greater risk. So, I’ve decided t’ cut ‘em all out entirely. With the exception of approved Springclan patrols, effective immediately ‘til the end of Leaf-Bare, Summerclan’s borders are closed: no cat gets let in, trespassers will be ran out on sight, and no cat will be permitted to leave the territory without my express permission. Dawnmemories has already assigned patrols for y’all to scent the borders and inform our neighbors. That’s all, folks. Hop to it.” It was a harsh decree to be sure, and not everyone would be happy with it, but Ratstar knew it was the best way to keep his home safe.
[Overarching December Plot: Isolationism & Clan Bonding! Due to recent events, Ratstar has decided that all of the other clans, minus Springclan, are too risky to deal with, and has closed the borders entirely: no one is allowed in, and no one is allowed to sneak out without risk of punishment, so everyone is cooped up together.]

Dawnmemories felt her shoulder sag in relief at the decree, she could breathe again. The turmoil in the other clans had made her anxious, worried for her clan and what wars could mean for them. Ratstar, while making a bold move to be sure, was going to keep them safe this leafbare. Dawnmemories moved into the middle of the crowd, rattling the patrols off to her warriors with ease.
Roachpelt had listened with unease, knowing these kind of announcement usually had some kick back. And, personally, he felt conflicted by the decree. SummerClan was welcoming, loving, and he'd been lucky to land here. Were they right to deny that to other cats in the dead of leafbare?
Cherrysky heard her name called by Dawnmemories, but ignored it, instead staring up into Ratstar's face in astonishment and disbelief. "Ratstar! Why would we turn away potential allies?"
Ratstar trotted down the frost-covered hill, careful not to slip on the cold grass. He was surprised that Cherrysky of all cats would be the first to voice an opinion; he had been sure it would be either Sootstep or Dustfeather. Nevertheless he shook his head at their question. "How can the Forest Clans be potential allies while in complete disarray? Tryin' to help 'em would only be drainin' on us; usin' up valuable prey an' supplies that we need to get through the approachin' cold. Come New-Leaf, should they manage to settle down, I'll reconsider my stance."
Mudthistle listened to her leader uneasily, shifting her weight on her paws back and forth as she considered his logic. Leaf-Bare in Summerclan was quick but harsh; would this make survival any easier on them? She didn't have much time to think on it as the Deputy called her name as a patrol leader, and she swiftly bounded to Cherrsky's side, resting the tip of her tail on the younger she-cat's shoulder. "You can discuss your concerns with Ratstar later, we have a patrol to do."
Seasparkleflash wasn't particularly concerned by the decision; he remembered how Waterclan had tried to make allies, only to be completely abandoned by their neighbors when sickness overtook them. It was better for a clan to rely on itself, and focus on it's own survival first and foremost. The ginger tom glanced around the crowd, looking for his patrol members.
He must have been feeling ill that day because the blue-eyed tom didn't speak a word of dissent. Sootstep was suspicious, there must be something wrong here, and yet... it made sense to him, in a way. He didn't want trespassers on their land, and the new restrictions sounded reasonable. His mood soured, though, when he stalked toward the deputy to join his patrol and noticed Ragingspire next to her.
The bronze tom offered Dawnmemories a warm smile before he turned away, leaving her to her patrol. Ragingspire was conflicted about these changes, though he wasn't about to argue over them. He had traveled with the other clans in his youth, and he hated the idea of being stuck inside his own borders. It wasn't rational, he hadn't left their land in moons, but he felt suddenly constricted all the same.
"Who would want non-SummerClan cats anyway?" wondered Sunkit out loud, sending a nasty look towards the clanmates she knew had no claim to clan blood like she did. Although nothing could compare to her golden bloodline, the implication of Ratstar being her father (which everyone with eyes could tell he bore little similarity to his kits) something she flaunted only when it benefited her. Now was one of those times; she carelessly disregarded Ratstar's summons for anyone older than, well, her to gather for the meeting.
"Shush, snotty nose," Rosethorn grumbled from her place next to her sister, Orchiddrop, directing the comment towards Sunkit. It was a bit bold for someone who'd just received her warrior name, but the twins had not been born in Summerclan and her comment rubbed Rosethorn the wrong way.
Orchiddrop nudged her sister's shoulder, shrugging off the kit's comment, chalking it up to the ignorance of youth. Even Ratstar had not been raised here, and he was the kit's 'father', supposedly. However, this news troubled her greatly. Her dearest... uh, friend?, Crow, was a not a clan cat and therefore their relationship would be greatly impacted by this new policy of isolation. It was a good thing she was on patrol along his border- she could pass the news along to him. Quiet as usual, she lapsed into thought, wondering how this would change her evening routine.
