Since Snowbunny last saw the demonic kits they were barely being given enough to eat, now they weren't being given anything to eat, forced to dig up their clan mates scraps. Snowbunny had tried to defend their sister Dirtykit from being killed by Dottymask, he succeeded in saving her life, but at a cost. Wintrystar had sentenced him to a moon in prison, isolated. There was snow inside his prison pit, but it would thaw in the day, turning to freezing waters. He was taught to perform tricks like a dog for his food, originally he refused, but after a while his hunger won out over his pride. Now he was on probation, made to eat last, which meant anything he ate he was taking away from the mouths of Bluejay's litter, the ones he had tried to save. It was funny, Wintrystar always controlled him even when he was an apprentice. Only now did he understand that he existed to obey and serve her demands.
"Thank-you for graciously giving me this opportunity to train the appre- demons! Alongside you Wintrystar," Snowbunny said in an obedient tone, but fear gripped in his gaze. Howlingnight had kept him under house arrest, his neck tethered to a stake in his den for sometime now, to be brought out for something this big... Was skeptical. "Um... What will we be teaching them Wintrystar?"
Rottenpaw stood in a line next to his siblings, this was their first day of training, but after hearing that Wintrystar and Snowbunny would be his mentor it made him tense. He always thought that this would be their way out, they would train hard and use the skills they learned to either overpower the government or escape. But now... The adults controlled what they knew. His heart sank, was he really never going to get out of here?
Sinfulpaw glared daggers at Snowbunny and Wintrystar, now that she was starting to mature her kitten blue eyes had grown to be at odds with one another, one a yellow gold, the other an orange amber. It was unnerving. Eerie. Ha, fitting.
After a few moments of intense staring, she finally pulled her gaze away and began to lick the fur between each of her toes, pulling out knots and pieces of leaf litter that always managed to affect the long fur that grew there. It was disrespectful but she didn't care. She was edgy and would do what she wanted, she wasn't afraid fo Snowbunny, and was only kind of afraid of Wintrystar.

Maggotpaw sat next to Sinfulpaw, a distant look in his one eye as he stared out into nothing. He was grateful he wasn't with Howlingnight, to be honest. But facing Wintrystar, the very cat that put them in this mess, was nerve wracking. His legs were half bent, like he was trying to keep himself from shrinking into the ground like he's used to. They already knew too much, he needed to be more straight faced. Weak enough to not put the effort into. So he waited with bated breath to see just what Wintrystar had in mind.
Wintrystar gazed at the kits, a permeant look of displeasure on her face anytime she saw them. With one step she smacked Sinfulpaw for her rudeness and in the next she turned on the rest of the kits. She did not speak to Snowbunny, hardly acknowledged him at all. "Brats. You will be using Snowbunny for practice. Each strike will land upon him, each hit to his pelt, and when you learn to provide for the clan by hunting, you will start by hunting him. Understood?"
Sinfulpaw took the smack like a champ, in fact she didn't even flinch. It was going to take more than that to get a reaction out of her. Pretty much as soon as Wintrystar's paw pulled away she began to groom where she had been touched as if it was suddenly filthy. But she never stopped listening. Narrowing her eyes on Snowbunny, she wondered if this was some kind of trick. The white-furred tom was the Knight of the Stars. He did piddly tasks like sit with corpses and marry people, so Sinfulpaw didn't consider him much of a fighter. Perhaps she'd misjudged him. Regardless, any opportunity to beat up a successful Warrior in WinterClan was too good to pass up, even if it was on Wintrystar's request.
"Understood." She didn't wait for further permission, she just went straight for the attack. She levering a blow at his rear thigh, right where she knew it would hurt the most even if it didn't cause a whole lot of damage. She would savor this.
"What?" Snowbunny asked turning to look at his leader, fear rounding in his eyes at the betrayal. He was hit in the rear and whined once, he was a great hunter, but he hadn't had any combat training his entire life. Plus he knew better than to defy her orders and strike back, maybe this was just a test. He tried to look at Wintrystar to gauge if that was it, but her eyes were cold. She had already humiliated him in front of the whole clan when she announced he'd be a prisoner, then isolated him making his mate maintain his punishment. He was still being punished by being deprived food and freedom, hadn't he been put through enough?
"Understood," Rottenpaw repeated as his sister had. He unsheathed his claws coming around the other side of Snowbunny, his claws hit the side of Snowbunny's leg in a flimsy strike. He had to be more strategical, but it felt... Good! He heard the tom let out a low hiss as this time he used the full force of his body to slam Snowbunny to the ground. While the knight began to stand up he made sure to give his stomach a few lashings knowing that was a vulnerable area.
"I bet if we work together we can bring him down and hold him down for what would be the killing blow," Rottenpaw suggested to Sinfulpaw, intentionally leaving Maggotpaw out of this. Maggotpaw wasn't like his other siblings, he didn't know how to survive and no offense to his little brother, but he just wanted to win at least this first round. Then they could train together, at least that's what he promised to himself in his head.
"I suggest you start running Snowbunny or you'll be a sitting duck." It was the only ounce of guidance she was giving the tom. Otherwise she curled up in the corner of the training area to watch it all go down. The Sovereign didn't care how well the kits did, or if Snowbunny escaped unharmed, just that he realized that the mistake he made all the days ago would haunt him for a while longer. She was not pleased with him, at all. And she was making it clear. For in this moment, she allowed the demon children to do as they wished with no punishment in sight. "I don't want him dead." And she left it at that. No more instructions given, just cold, watchful eyes.

Maggotpaw's eye widened at their orders, and how quickly Rottenpaw and Sinfulpaw jumped on it. There was enough drama here to make him forget what happened yesterday. But didn't this guy stick up for them? And now they have to hunt him? Just for sport and Wintrystar's amusement. He glanced over at Wintrystar for a moment. And just barely heard what Rottenpaw said. And fine, it was true. Maggotpaw, even after losing his eye, didn't know what to do besides stay quiet and out of the way. That did the trick enough, it at least got him here and out of camp. When he thought back to Howlingnight, he already knew the advice he would get. Don't defy Wintrystar.
Maggotpaw dove in then, striking Snowbunny on the side. It was a shallow hit, but he made sure to keep it away from his limbs. Maggot didn't want him slowed right away. "You should get going." He whispered to Snowbunny before returning to his spot in the line.
"If you're not going to actually hurt him, then stay our of our way," Sinfulpaw snarled at Maggotpaw, batting him away with sheathed claws. He was pathetic. A weakling. As much as she tried to resist it, the WinterClan mindset had poisoned her some, enough for her to value strength over compassion.
After dealing with Maggotpaw, Sinfulpaw lined up shoulder to shoulder with Rottenpaw, "Sounds like a good idea. I'll hold him down for you," It made sense, Sinfulpaw was large and powerful, more suited for the grunt work than finesse. Assuming Rottenpaw agreed, she used her tail to sweep Snowbunny's front paws out from under him and slammed his own paws down on his shoulders, holding them down. It was not a classic pin, but it would hold him at least long enough for Rottenpaw do work his magic.
She dug her claws into his shoulders even though she didn't need to and unsheathed them in and out. Leaning forward, her mouth to his ear - which exposed her throat, should he dare try anything - she said for his ears only, "This is for what you did to Dirtypaw."
Snowbunny's pupils thinned in terror at his leaders words. She couldn't be doing this to him, this couldn't be happening to him. He was a knight. But the moment he thought of the word knight the more empty the title felt. Wintrystar didn't care what he was so long as she obeyed him, but that wasn't the case. She was going to keep beating him down if she felt it would teach him a lesson. He wasn't even on anyone's side anymore. He had tried to please Wintrystar and tried to help the family, but by doing so he had been disloyal and hurt the demons.
Suddenly he felt a jab in his side and realized it was Maggotpaw. "You should get going."
Maggotpaw was right, humiliated he ran away from the apprentices like prey, his tail tucked between his legs. It wasn't long before his legs were tripped up by Sinfulpaw. Collapsing to the ground he struggled to get up, but Sinfulpaw was on him in seconds pressing his paws to his shoulders. His moppy bangs rolled to the side in the wind revealing his lightning green eyes, shining with tears. He yelped and yipped like injured prey as Sinfulpaw pierced her claws in and out of his shoulders. There wasn't any point in holding onto his dignity after being a prisoner for so long. Not to mention he deserved it, he still had nightmares from what he was commanded to do to Dirtypaw, she was so trusting...
Rottenpaw hovered over Snowbunny's face, his claws unsheathing, "What a cute little bunny rabbit, I think we should skin him open right?" He had never been able to fight back before, the feeling was exhilarating. Starting at Snowbunny's chin scraped both his claws down, but stopped at the top of the toms neck, looking back up at Wintrystar. She said not to kill him. Skipping his neck he started at the collarbone raking his claws down past his shoulder all the way to his leg leaving a thick long red slit across Snowbunny's body. All the while the knight could only scream and cry for his leaders mercy and forgiveness.
Rottenpaw wanted more of this, he wanted to make someone else hurt, "May we have a second round, sovereign Wintrystar?"
Sinfulpaw held Snowbunny steady all the while Rottenpaw tortured him, but right around the time his cries began to echo across the clearing, she sheathed her claws. Something about this made her chest feel tight. Part of her knew that what they were doing was justified and totally deserved, but she also realized that hurting him didn't made her feel any more complete than before they started. It was a hollow, empty feeling. No one was winning.
Still, she made sure that Rottenpaw could do as he wanted, and she was happy at least that he seemed to be getting something out of all of this. Sinfulpaw had to remind herself of how broken Dirtypaw had been after the failed experiment and steeled herself again any further doubts. WinterClan had always called her a monster. If she was going to have the label, she may as well earn it. Her claws dug back into his shoulders, more forceful than before, and she drug them downward a fraction of an inch to make sure he really felt it.
"That stupid fur of yours is in the way," Sinfulpaw released lifted one of her now blood-speckled paws up to the shaggy bang that always hung in front of his eyes. She began to rip, tear and cut away the fur, not even glancing at Wintrystar for the approval Rottenpaw seemed to be waiting on.
She had to meet his tear-stained, terrified gaze. If she didn't look him in the eyes, then she was weaker than Wintrystar, Silverfury, Dottymask, Howlingnight, all of them, they never flinched when she stared them down. It was part of what made them so feared and respected. She wanted that, too, and if it cost her what was left of her humanity then so be it.

Mangledpaw paced in a slow circle around Snowbunny. He tuned out the screams for mercy and the cries of pain. After all, that's what he had done when he was torturing Dirtypaw, wasn't it? He hadn't even tried to help her or save her. True, it was an order from Wintrystar. But Snowbunny had just a bit more power than the demon kits. He could have fought for Dirtypaw. The black-furred tom glared at Maggotpaw. Though he could at least understand his brother's reluctance it angered him that he wouldn't even try. Mangledpaw stood up straight as he made his way towards his little brother, towering over him as his tail swayed rhythmically behind him. It was as if he was unaffected by the carange taking place behind him.
"Maggotpaw," He said, keeping his tone level. "Surely you won't let Rottenpaw and Sinfulpaw do all the work? Don't you want our sovereign to tell our father how well we obeyed her orders? Like true, loyal Winterclan cats would? Or do you want to end up in prison with the others." He hissed, baring his teeth slightly before firmly nudging his brother forward. Mangledpaw cleared his throat as he glared down at Snowbunny before briefly glancing up at his siblings. "Sinfulpaw, Rottenpaw. If our sovereign decides to let us have a second round, let Maggotpaw and myself have a go. Can't have all the fun now, can you?"
"So be it. I care not how many rounds you decide on. But we will be done at dusk, so do as you wish and learn well. You will defend WinterClan in your futures, on the front lines." Whether they realized it or not, Wintrystar has just told them their fate, one of sacrifices if need be. It was common knowledge that the front line was the one that faced the most casualties, but maybe they didn't yet knw this? If so, oh well. They'd know their place before long. She settled into her spot, watching, but not once moving to intervene or help or even instruct them on moves, position or technique. She cared not, and was only here to make sure they didn't kill the tom and that the tom would see that even the monsters would not be of any help to him. That only she, the Sovereign of the clan was worthy of having loyalty to.
Snowbunny was screaming now as Rottenpaw helped his sister to hold the knight down while she tore out the toms fur. Rottenpaw turned to look at Sinfulpaw, she wasn't stopping. Mangledpaw had a point, Maggotpaw and him needed a chance to tear into Snowbunny too. He didn't know what to say, one more second? That felt so normalized, was this their new normal, was this the knights new normal too?
Using all his weight Snowbunny managed to roll himself back up onto his paws even with Sinfulpaw clutching onto his shoulders. He gripped her by the scruff, biting down hard he tried his best to ear Sinfulpaw off.
"C'mon Mangledpaw and Maggotpaw, we gotta throw him back onto the ground," Rottenpaw encouraged his brothers. He knew what front lines meant and he didn't have any doubt that Wintrystar would endanger him and his littermates now while they were apprentices should a war come. So if they could learn to work together as a team that would be their best shot.

Maggotpaw must have been alien to his siblings, wired differently somehow. Getting punished and mocked and bullied and even having his eye ripped out of its socket, all led him to sadness instead of anger. He just kept mourning the days gone instead of getting angry at his circumstances like he chose to sit in the loop instead of doing anything about it. Maggotpaw needed to stay alive, that was the goal now. Even if it made him a coward or weak, he needed to.
All three of them were mad at Snowbunny for what happened to Dirtypaw. In all honesty, Maggotpaw never really cared for Dirtypaw in the first place, so he didn't feel as motivated to get back. Sure, they shared Fluffykit now, but Dirtypaw's attitude always rubbed him the wrong way. She believed their "parents" too blindly, it frustrated him. So when Mangledpaw approached him, Maggotpaw was already ready to tune him out.
He already knew the answer to that question, and he was pretty sure Mangledpaw did too. But... he needed to live. And he needed to stay off of Wintrystar's radar. So, with a quick glance to the side, he stood up. "Yeah but I don't know what to do. Sinful even said if I wasn't gonna hurt him to stay out of their way. So that's what I'm doing." Maggotpaw answered, a half truth he coated with earnesty.
"Augh!" Sinfulpaw gasped as Snowbunny turned her around and started to reverse the balance of the battle. She'd only ever been trained on hunting up until now and wasn't used to her prey fighting back, so she'd left a pretty big opening that he had taken advantage was. The massive dark-furred she-cat began flailing her front paws and scrambling with her back to get a foot, giving her just enough leverage to dig her fangs into Snowbunny's arm and hold them there.
"Do--Som-Ting!" She hissed through the mouthful of fur, her odd honey-and-amber eyes glaring at Rottenpaw, "An-E-ting!"

Maggotpaw let out a sigh, brushing a paw over the vacant socket in his skull before charging over to Snowbunny and Sinfulpaw. Everyone had stayed still for too long, and even though he held no ire against Snowbunny, Wintrystar was still watching. He could cross Dotty and Silver all he wanted, but Wintry was where he drew the line. Granted, he would be little help without any training. But maybe some was better than none. He wasn't sure, but he still slammed into Snowbunny's back leg to off balance him before pressing all his weight onto him. Sinking his teeth into his leg. It didn't get him off of Sinfulpaw, but it at least kept him from moving, kept the tide from turning. Hopefully.
