Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
"My mother!" She snapped, flashing a glare at Crowpaw before bursting into tears. "She didn't want us because we are both Elementals and cursed by the Sun God! She told us that we were an abomination and to prevent us from doing harm in the future, she tried to kill us! She blocked our only way out of the fire!" Tears poured from her face, soaking her fur and causing it to plaster to her face.
He spiraled through a series of emotion: Pain, watching her dissolve into sobs; anger, unsure of how parents could be so cruel; and hatred, a silent vow embedded in his heart to rectify the wrongs that befell his friend. But there was nothing he could in this moment, despite how he longed to do anything, to steal her hurt and feel it himself, so all he could do was embrace her and whisk tears away as they fell. "I'm sorry. I'm sorry I wasn't there. I'm sorry you're feeling this. She'll pay for that, Nightmarepaw, someway, somehow. I swear it." Resolution empowered his words, vicious as sharpened knives.
For the first time, Nightmarepaw leaned into him, burying her nose into his fur, breathing in his scent. She sniffled but began to feel comforted by his embrace. "Your my only friend, Crowpaw. Promise me that we will always be friends and always have each other's backs...no matter what." Her voice was soft and sounded heavy with emotion.
"No matter what," he assured her grimly, the sentiment shared. With his own family divided now, he and Raypaw the only two left in SunClan-- and his continued avoidance of all things related to the clan-- she was his best, and only, friend as well. "I... My father came back for Jetfire. Not for me or for my siblings, but Spiritpaw and Desertpaw went back to SwiftClan with him. He left again." It seemed to minute in the grand scheme of things now, but that didn't mean it made his heart hurt any less. And she was the only one he could express his pain to.
She leaned further into him and a slight smile came to her lips when he promised that no matter what they would be friends. Her smile faded as he went on about what he went through during the battle. "I guess we are one in the same. I suppose we will have to get back at them one way or another. They need to know the pain they caused us and suffer the consequences."
"I can take your mother on and you can go after Ghostcrown." He laughed but the sound was hollowed, vacant. The only evidence of his emotion was the quiet purr resonating through his body, unheard by the ear but Nightmarepaw was sure to feel it as they continued to press against each other.
She let out a small chuckle. "I'd rather go after my own mom but I appreciate the offer." Crowpaw's purring comforted her but she decided to pull away and take a deep breath. "Thanks for being here and listening to me rant. I didn't realize I needed that." She licked her paw and began wiping it over her face to clean the tear stains and salt off her face. "Perhaps I should become leader, huh? Maybe that will show her."
"Nightmarestar. Sounds scary," he noted, though there was a chill in her absence. His expression sobered again, however, Crowpaw deciding to at last put to words what he'd been considering. "Nightmarepaw... I think I'm going to leave SunClan soon. I just need to get out of here, clear my head, see what else is out there. I just feel like SunClan is cursed for me."
Nightmarepaw paused in mid swipe before turning to look at him with wide, bewildered sapphire blue eyes. "Your leaving? But...but you can't leave. I wouldn't have you here with me..."
The look she gave pained him, worse now than previously as he was the root cause of it. "Yes. But-- you could come! We could leave together and live free and forget our problems and it would just be us!" It may have been futile, but Crowpaw would cling to that hope until it was crushed.
She wanted to go with him, more than anything. She loved him but her need for revenge was stronger. "I-I can't...I have to stop my mother. If I don't, she will not rest until we are both dead. I can't let me sister fight my mother alone...Please...please don't leave me..." She begged, her eyes round and pleading.
His heart constricted in his chest, his eyes pleading for her not to beg him. He wasn't strong enough to say no, not to her. "I'm sorry. I have to do this, Nightmarepaw. But look, w-we can meet up. At the skull, remember? We can promise to meet there and promise to always be there for each other, no matter what, right? Forever." The vow hung heavy in the air, vibrant eyes staring into blue depths.
Tears formed in her eyes and she rushed forward and embraced him, resting her chin on his shoulder and wrapping a paw around him. "I can't stop you but I will be there at the skull. Every half moon we will meet there and I will never forget you...my best friend."
"Every half moon at the skull," echoed Crowpaw, leaning into Nightmarepaw's embrace. He hated the pain he was causing her, but his mother's words rang in his ears. Let them take care of themselves. She'd been talking about his siblings, of his desire to protect them, but he felt the same need to defend Nightmarepaw from the horrors of the world. It was just time for him to let go, to live for himself for once.
After a moment of the embrace, she released him and held his gaze for a few moments more. "Goodbye..." She whispered, her sapphire blue eyes full of sadness.
