Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.

"Okay lovelies, now let's try and go over this one last time. You are demons, but this doesn't mean you're not deserving of respect and love, but it does mean you have to earn it unlike the others. This means that until you've earned the privilege to be respected and loved you're going to have to accept that everyone has authority over you. Never forget to always back down to any WinterClan warrior, if they want you to beg you will beg. If they want you to recite something humiliating then that's what you'll have to do. You don't get the luxury of having dignity, but it'll be alright. By the time this etiquette lesson is done I'm sure by apprenticeship you'll both have earned everyone's respect and love. You might have each been given a bad hand in life, but I'll claw anyone to pieces if you're being well behaved and bullied so you always have your mama as backup," Dottymask promised.
Lately she had been trying to teach each of her kits etiquette, but with such a large litter size it was easier to do so in pairs of two. Brokenkit and Mangledkit were the first up to begin learning demon manners. It seemed now that they were four moons old she didn't speak with her claws and teeth as much as she did when they were younger.
Brokenkit had been in a bitter mood since the day Howlingnight had escorted her and the others to the prison that held their biological mother, letting her emotions control her as they switched to and fro, anger to confusion and sadness then back again in a never ending loop. Today as Dottymask sat her and Mangledkit down she turned the queens words out after hearing 'demon' for the hundredth time in her short life, her faded golden eyes cut downward away from her fake mother and she began to claw out little lines on the ground.
"Brokenkit- love," She corrected herself before continuing to scold her daughter, "Were you listening?" She asked in a testy tone, her claws grabbed onto the side of Brokenkit's head as she forced her closer to her by the ear and speaking directly into it said, "I can make you listen or you can listen like a good little girl." She roughly pushed the side of Brokenkit's head away from her, "Are you going to be a good little girl for mama. Say yes ma'am." She said, her tone back to her innocent, perfect mother image.
The little she-kit didnt move a muscle as she Dottymask gripped her face and pulled her closer, but she almost made the mistake of letting a growl rumble out, having to clench her jaw to prevent it. As her face was shoved to the side she almost toppled over but managed to just catch herself, she had been expecting worse but the day was not yet over. "Yes ma'am" she forced the overly exaggerated words, peering up at the queen with an unnatural and fake smile.

Soullesskit felt the same way towards the Clan the day she was taken away from her mother, but that had faded into the background. She never really knew her to begin, and there were more important things to be happy about! They were finally able to see the sky that day. Sure, none of her Clanmates wanted to even look at her, but she could still play in the snow. She could prove that she wasn't soulless! She remember that Dottymask told her to be somewhere to talk about something earlier that day, but she wasn't listening. Everything her fake mother said was never positive, so she always just said "Yes ma'am." and moved on. It was her mistake.
She turned the corner and walked in on Dottymask holding her sister to the ground. Damn it. She came to a halt before slowly backing up. Did she miss a meeting like this?
Her attention turned over to Soullesskit, she had missed her lesson earlier in the day. "Soullesskit," She said firmly. Any time she said one of her children's name that was a command for them to approach her front and center with full attention. "You didn't attend your etiquette lesson, you should know better, being on time is important. Now how can I make sure you'll be on time from now on? Maybe if I ground you in the nursery for a day it'll put more pressure for you to be on time, does that sound fair to you Soullesskit?"
Dottymask gently stroked Brokenkit with her tongue, behind her ear as she waited for Soullesskit's response.

Soullesskit froze mid-step when Dottymask said her name. Her head hung low as she meandered her way to sit in front of her mother. She expected to feel hew claws dig into the back of her neck, but they never came. Instead, she was grounded. Her eyes lit up and her gaze snapped up to look into her mother's eyes. "Yes! I won't do it again! I promise!" It's not like a day in the nursery really did much anyway. No one except her siblings played with her anyway. She just got a day away from all the awful stares!
"I'm to see you enthusiastic for atoning your tardiness so it's best to get started with the punishment right away," Dottymask stood up walking over to Soullesskit before patting at the front entrance to the nursery, "Right here," She said marking the ground with an X with her claws, "You will dig a hole deep enough for you to sit in and I'll bury you up to your neck. Hopefully getting stepped on and the cold wind blown in your face will make you want to stay closer to me than further. Just a few steps away does make a difference. Better getting digging, the grounds cold and if you need to crack your claws and bleed it's better to do it now than when night comes."
She turned her attention back to Brokenkit, "Now Brokenkit and Soullesskit, because I do expect you to listen while digging. Someday you'll acquire romantic feelings for other cats. When you get these you'll need to learn to control these urges by repressing them or you can see the medicine cat to help regulate your urges. You must never be romantically with any cat nor have any kits. Your mothers greatest sin was having all of you, imagine what would happen if you had kits. Wintrystar might execute them rather than be merciful the way she is being with both of you right now. So as a little exercise I want you to each say out loud one thing you'll be useful for in WinterClan and two things bad about yourself. Then when you feel these urges you'll remind yourself of your true purpose and why you'll never be good enough. Helpful right?" She purred.
Brokenkit sat very still as Dottymask licked behind her ears, suppressing a shiver when she called her sisters name in her usual demanding voice. Her eyes moved to Soulesskit but she stayed silent, knowing it would be stupid to speak in a moment like this, she listened as their mother gave her sister punishment though and flinched slightly even though it was not happening to her. She wanted to run, but where would she go. Her attention was drawn back to the queen again and this time she listened carefully, ignoring the anger that welled up as she answered. "I will give my life for Winterclan, I am a demon, my life is insignificant to others." Her words came out as if they had been prepared already, hoping that her answer would be pleasing enough to save her from being hit.

She smile fell off her shoulders as she realized what 'grounding' meant. It was literal. Cruel and literal. Her head bowed, she walked over to the x and slowly started digging the hole. Even now it hurt her claws. She sniffled as she kept digging, and tried to be as obnoxious with it as she could. There was no pile dirt. She tried and did fling the stuff everywhere, save for on Dottymask and her sister. Of her siblings she was one of the most positive, but that turned around to the most petty more often than not. She had gotten her share of beatings from it, but it didn't matter. She and her siblings could overcome whatever hell Wintrystar designed. "I am useful for digging stuuupid holes like this. I am a demon. I belong somewhere else less generous than here."
Dottymask breathed in, "It's a good start," She said, clearly not happy about it. On some level she understood they were kits, she was forgiving for that reason.
She let out sigh, she had been doing that a lot lately. It wasn't too long ago that their brother Nobodykit had been exiled from WinterClan for an entire week. He was found being picked apart by crows and was now recovering in the witches den. Surprisingly Dottymask had been a mess, she actually cared for him and spent an entire week of off and on sobbing, praying that Nobodykit would be found alive. Rottenkit, who had accidentally gotten Nobodykit in trouble suffered for damning his brother, so much so that neither sibling had seen much of Rottenkit at all.
"Another thing you will begin to learn is that you'll never be worth anything more than the burden of a sin that this clan must carry. That means if WinterClan is low on prey you won't be considered, you'll need to learn to steal prey, forage for plants, or eat the dirt to live. It means if you get sick and there are others who need treatment, you'll be last. Wintrystar can't kill you, so she'll look for ways to allow mother nature to take you out. You'll need to live by your own set of rules, to trust only your siblings, and make friends outside of the clan who can save you, because you will suffer, and you will need a savior," She promised them, with another hesitant breath she lowered her voice, "You have an aunt and a grandmother who loves you in DayClan. If you are ever truly desperate for help you need to journey there, but come right back home. If WinterClan ever finds out that you're going to DayClan they'll strike their clan down to their knees."
Soullesskit rolled her eyes. She already knew that they were nothing. Everyone in the Clan made that clear enough. She kept most of her focus on digging the hole, which was getting closer and closer to being the right size. Her claws stung and bled as they tore through the frozen earth, but Soullesskit kept digging. Dottymask would not care anyway. Besides, she heard some warrior say the pain built character. "Well, why don't you just take us to DayClan? Wintrystar doesn't have to deal with us, and we can get out of this place."
"So you can breed more? No, to WinterClan you are a demon that our clan has been burdened to watch over. At first I thought you would be powerful like your mother, but I can see that your mother must have not been lying when she said she gave up her power long ago. You're more harmless than you could have been and therefore I have a bit more sympathy for your well being," Dottymask explained, "Your job here is to take everyday with gratitude that you're not locked up like your mother. You will grow up to serve this clan with an obedient spirit and your heads down. Eventually you will die and the clan will know that your demon species has been exterminated. If you're feeling ungrateful you should see what they're doing to Bluejay right now, getting exactly what she deserves."
Dottymask walked over to Soullesskit, "That's good," She said when the hole was up to her neck. She moved the dirt back into the hole, burying her, but as the dirt got higher dust got into her eyes, however there would be little Soullesskit could do about it with her paws buried. Dottymask patted at the dirt making sure it stayed firm and packed in. "Now don't you feel silly that this is the extent you have to be punished to learn your lesson? You should be more like your sister Brokenkit."
It was worse than she could have thought. As soon as the dirt surrounded her legs she could feel the unrelenting cold of the earth, and then a cold draft blew in from the outside. Soullesskit swallowed hard. It was gonna suck. Really bad. But she couldn't let her mother see it. Her thoughts stopped. Or would she? Would Dottymask take pity if she saw her punishment worked?
"If my real mom gave up her powers, then what in the Goddess's name are you and everyone afraid off?" She growled. "Is Wintrystar so afraid of us that she wants to kick us into the ground? Does she enjoy seeing us suffer like you do?" It just didn't make sense to the kitten. If her mother gave up her powers, then what did anyone have to fear. "Take us somewhere where we can test if we have powers like Mom's. We can show you that we don't. We'll be no less a demon than you and dad." She paused. Crap. She let that slip. "Uhhh, I didn't mean that. I'm grateful for your sacrifice in taking us in..."
"You have a point Soullesskit, but another rule of our social etiquette lessons is that your voice shall only be heard if it's first invited or permitted into a conversation," Dottymask said unsheathing her claws but instead of raking them across her daughters face she instead kneaded them into the dirt tearing it a part, "I don't fear you like the others do, a mother cannot be a true guardian figure if she fears her children. But the clan believes you are demons and the divine have never denied it. You are what you are Soullesskit, you want to be more, but you never will. The best you'll be is my daughter."
Her paw moved the dirt up to Soullesskit's muzzle, "Eat it all up, it shouldn't be hard considering all the garbage that comes out of your mouth it'll be like eating your words, which is exactly what I want." Dottymask preferred corporal discipline, to her it was more efficient, but Soullesskit could always endure another lashing. What she found she couldn't handle was being dehumanized, degraded. All of her kits thought they were born with nothing, but they were born with far too much pride. That was why it was her job to remove it from their very soul.
(I'm fine with wrapping this up in the next few posts if you want)
Cats feared her? Wait, did Wintrystar fear her? She was the leader who held her mother in prison, and she might fear her? It blew her mind. Was her lineage really that dangerous? Dottymask unsheathing her claws jumped her out of her head and back into the present. She readied herself for the claws to rain down on her exposed head, but they never came anywhere near. Dottymask's actions only inspired fear in the kitten. What would she do now? She swallowed hard. And then she got her answer. A pile of dirt the size of her head blocked her view of the rest of the nursery. She growled but took a small bite out of the small pile. "If I eat much more of this, I'll vomit."
"Maybe being stuck breathing in your own filth will make you understand what it's like for the rest of the clan putting up with you and your siblings. I'm trying my best to mold you into a good girl who will do as she's told when she's told, like being on time. Cats can make mistakes, but you're not even a cat, you're a demon. Any mistake you create will always be deserving of punishment my careless daughter," Dottymask said sweetly licking the top of Soullesskit's head.
Watching her eat at the dirt she waited until her daughter began to look visibly sick before moving the dirt away. "You'll be allowed to beg for why I should dig you out in the morning, but you're staying buried for the night," Dottymask told her before padding away.
(Yeah that works! How about we have Rottenkit come over to her in the night and curl up behind Soullesskit's face to keep her warm for an established bond sibling bond. But he'll likely get in trouble too)
She flattened her ears as Dottymask berated her again. She wasn't even a cat... and Soullesspaw could find some pride in that. Demons like Bluejay could be far more powerful than any single cat. They were to be respected and revered. If this Clan didn't do that, then another would certainly enjoy what she had to offer them. Unlike her mother, she would be a good demon. She would use her strengths to help kits like herself and her siblings.
The resolve stayed hidden from Dottymask as she ducked her head down in apparent submission. She wanted to believe all cats had good in them somewhere, but then how could cats like Wintrystar and Dottymask exist? They seemed to be pure evil and thrive on suffering, as she was doing now. As night fell a cold draft swept across the floor of the nursery into Soullesskit's face. She could feel the moisture on her nose freeze over a bit as it passed. How could she survive the dead of night if she was freezing now?
Rottenkit padded over to Soullesskit in the night, sneaking out from Dottymask's nest and over to Soullesskit's head, "I've been warm long enough, I can warm you up now," He said, but without waiting for confirmation he moved behind her face, his tail moving over her nose to keep it warm. "I'll just have to wake up before mom finds out, okay?"
The night had been long for Soullesskit. Luckily, the snow had not penetrated into the den's outer reaches, but cold air still enveloped her face. She had tried countless times to try and pull herself out, but to no avail. By now her teeth chattered as she shook from the cold. Maybe she would die here, just inches from her warm nest.
Her shut eyes opened wide as she felt Rottenpaw's warmth envelop her. For the first time that night she involuntarily relaxed. "Thanks. I owe you one."
