Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
Firesky was feeling restless again. She had just returned from a quick hunting trip that she had cut short because she was starving. After depositing her catches onto the fresh-kill pile, she turned and watched with slight disdain as a group of kits tumbled over each other in front of the nursery. She momentarily considered foregoing her meal to slip back out and do more solo hunting, but her stomach clenched in protest. Her eyes slitted, she settled down with a plump mouse and a vole. As she ate she tried to tune out the mewls and squeals from the raucous kits. She thanked Starclan when one of the Queens poked their head out from the nursery to chastise the kits, gathering them back into the nursery.
“Finally, some peace and quiet.” Firesky murmered to herself as she finished her mouse, licking her lips as she pulled the vole towards her.
She finished her meal quickly and began cleaning herself, mulling over her plan for the rest of the day. Her restlessness was driving her crazy and she decided she just needed to run. Maybe if she wore herself out she could finally relax. She stood and stretched, the fur along her spine rippling as she unsheathed and sheathed her claws. She shook herself as she turned and began trotting towards the camp entrance.
"Helloo!" High pitched and drawn out the tone was most likely just as annoying as the kits had been to her. The skinny bone thin tom that hopped over to her looked comical next to the thick furred she-cat. Black sparse fur and large round alien like eyes peering at her with their sickly yellow color.
"Are you going somewhere?" He questioned eagerly, grin twisting higher and wider as he fought to restrain himself. He couldn't poke at her to much quite yet as he needed to be able to accompany her out of camp. Heading out of camp with a companion was much less suspicious than if he ran out on his own like his tail was on fire. "Can I come?" His eyes unwittingly glanced over towards the apprentice den before coming back towards her once more. Twistedhumor had never been that great at hiding his subtle actions that acted as tells towards his motives.
Firesky froze, only a few feet from the entrance now, as a shrill voice called out. Her brows furrowing in annoyance and ears twitching, she composed herself, relaxing her face and adding a polite smile as she turned. A gaunt, thin haired tom was hopping over to her excitedly. He questioned if she was going somewhere, a disconcerting smile growing on his face. If his sudden appearance, unnerving grin, and eargerness hadn't rang her alarm bells, she would have snapped at him with a sarcastic biting comment. Of course she was going somewhere, she wasn't just going over to admired the bramble archways. But instead, she remained guarded and calm, her eyes narrowing slightly with suspicion as the tom requested to join her.
"Oh, well hello there! I don't think we've met before. My name is Firesky.'' She smiled sweetly as she continued. "I was just going out for a run to clear my mind." She stated matter-of-factly. "You're more than welcome to join me, if you can keep up. I'll probably do some hunting on the way back as well." She wasn't too keen on having company, but her curiosity was piqued and alarm bells were ringing in her head. His glance towards the apprentice den hadn't gone unnoticed.
"Do you have an apprentice that you'd like to accompany us as well?" She questioned, tilting her muzzle in the direction of the apprentice den where his dubious gaze had traveled only a moment before.
Twistedhumor watched her face, her expressions not passing by without notice but he paid little concern towards them. One would never accuse the tom of being considerate of others, or caring for much outside his own amusement. In fact something inside him shivered at her about face, at her challenge. All the same he couldn't help the bark of laughter that escaped him at her last question.
"Oh absolutely not, an apprentice would cramp my style!" He was quick to assure her, though he absently admired her calling him out about his less than secretive glance. "I was just wondering if you had an apprentice." Such a counteractive statement truly made little sense and they both likely knew that well. But he was keen to poke at her and turning everything she said around seemed like an easy, low hanging fruit, tactic to accomplish that.
"But if neither of us have duties we should be attending to then I say let us run!"
Firesky tentatively raised an eyebrow at the tom's response. "That's a negative, no style cramping here either..." She answered his rather redundant question, keeping her guard up as he finished speaking. She couldn't help the slight annoyed twitch of her ears. There went her relaxing solo run plans.
"Then run we shall." She responded, wasting no time as she turned back towards the main camp entrance, tail twitching she bounded through the bramble archways, nodding at the warrior standing guard as she passed. She steadied her breathing as she thought of which direction she wanted to go. She had returned from her earlier hunting trip from the lake towards the northwest, but she wanted to ran farther than that. She shifted her direction eastwards, deciding to head towards the waterfall. She glanced briefly over her shoulder, ears twitching as she dashed through the undergrowth. The tom was following close behind.
[ I am feeling shamed because I skipped out on my own exercise routine today in favor of doing nothing. I am feeling shamed by a cat website. Also my apologies I lost this thread. ]
As much as the tom would never consider himself a casual runner, or someone who would run for the simple joy of running, he was still rather slim and light in build. So as long as Firesky didn't plan on having them running a marathon he would probably be able to keep up with her. But the way she spoke before had him rather concerned. He supposed the longer this went on the more serious thought he would have to put into his backup plans.
Already he had the vague idea that he could possibly fake twisting his ankle if it seemed she had plans to run them into the dirt. Oddly enough Twistedhumor felt more open towards faking a rather sad and uninspiring injury than he did towards admitting he couldn't actually keep pace with her.
(no worries! I ended up having a family emergency and had to last minute travel out of state myself so I have some catching up to do!)
Firesky started out a casual pace, warming her muscles and regulating her breathing. The sounds of the forest around her began to fade, the rhythmic drum of her paws as they hit the ground was already beginning to relax her and she found herself subconsciously picking up speed. A twig snapping behind her brought her back to her senses and she remembered the thin tom trailing behind her. She adjusted her gait, not wanting to actually leave him in the dust. She was still suspicious of him. Once she had fallen back enough to be in earshot she controlled her pace once again.
"Forest runs can be so invigorating, don't ya think?" She asked, not waiting for him to answer before continuing. "Do you run often?"
