Undeadpaw must have been close to promotion, though he didn't really feel like it. Like right now, the grey tabby was dropped in a hunting crouch. The night light did not help keep him camouflaged, fur shimmering in the light. A mouse nibbled on a nut, it's back turned to Undeadpaw. When he pounced, the mouse slipped through his paws. Undeadpaw chased after it, reaching this way and that to get at it. But it kept dodging him. Just as he was about to get it, he lost his balance. Falling forward, he rolled down a hill. Dirt and twigs stuck into his long pelt, and he coughed up some dirt. When he opened his eyes, he was face to face with hollow ones. Ivory white peered out at him from the ground, it was clear to anyone it was a skull.
The white she-cat happened to be burring her own catch near by when she heard the rapid twig snapping that drew closer to her as the older tom made his nontraditional descent down the path. Instinctively she flinched, squeezing her eyes shut in anticipation of the impact that never came. Only when silence had settled over her again did Ghostpaw open her eyes, turning to look at Undeadpaw. "A-are you alright?" she called taking a hesitant step in his direction.

"Ow ow. Damn. I should have thrown my back out there. So this is what youth is like." Undeadpaw stood up and shook himself off despite the complaining. It was almost a marvel he was okay, but so called youth really did help. He tended to feel too young or too old, in a constant state of battling himself. Undeadpaw barely even noticed Ghostpaw as he picked a stick out of his fur and flicked it somewhere. "Who, me? Yeah. What about you? Little bump in the night scare you?" His tone left him ambiguous but his eyes bore into her, like he was trying to memorize each detail.
"What? of course not!" she answered, perhaps a bit too quickly. She refused to look away, holding his gaze for as long as he dared to hold hers. Even when her ears started to burn with embarrassment, and she could slowly feel her heart pounding in her chest. Why was he looking at her like that? "I- i was just expecting you to be hurt is all" she sniffed indignantly.

Undeadpaw held back a laugh, seemingly satisfied with his observation as he looked away. He shook his pelt out again, unable to get rid of that grimy feeling that covered him. Some of the grey hairs were stained red, so he must have had a few cuts on him. But otherwise, he was fine. "Well, I am. Somewhat. Lucky you." He was always too lax about his health for his own good. He'd probably just sleep this off. "Still, guess I should have Nereus look at this." A white lie, though as he stepped to get back to camp, his foot broke through something hard and he stepped through it. When he pulled his foot up to look at it, a rabbit skull hung off of it.
"What did you roll in? A grave yard?" she asked skeptically, eyeing the skull that hung off his foot. Her green eyes shifted from the skull to the red high lights in his fur a frown settling on her expression. "That might be wise, I can walk you back to camp if you'd like?" she offered, though she had a sinking feeling the older apprentice would turn her down. "If it gets infected you could get really sick and only Selene knows what could be on the bones you rolled through."

"Ah yes, rabbit graveyard. Where the souls of rabbits that have been killed will haunt you, chase you down till you're exhausted then nibble away at your flesh till you die." Undeadpaw tried to be somewhat spooky, though his flat tone definitely made it more unnerving than scary. He flicked his wrist, sending the rabbit skull a few feet away before it hit the ground, shattering more. "not. but you'll worry or whatever if I just leave you here. Let's go then. May as well get a head start on these rabbits."
