Flyingcolors had previously spoken to Glowstar about the issue of appointing her an apprentice. After receiving the prophecy from Starclan from her brother who had not yet died. She suspected it was a piece of his subconsciousness. They were born emissaries and they had confusing and mysterious abilities that no one truly knew the extent of. The two had agreed it would be in their best interest for Flyingcolors to watch the kits and apprentices for a potential future medicine cat of Dayclan. She had helped treat and look over Vixenkit towards the end of her apprenticeship and the recently named medicine cat had kept an eye on the she-kit who one day blatantly asked the blue merle. Flyingcolors did not immediately agree but chose to sleep on it, calling upon her ancestors each time for guidance.
One day,a baby female fox, a vixen, had wondered close to her, the tiny creature sitting itself before her and tilted its head. Flyingcolors was alarmed at first until she spotted the mother just a few tail lengths away, waiting patiently for the young to return to her side. With a smile, she nudged the baby vixen back to her mother and in an instant the two of them disappeared. They were no ordinary foxes, only the scent of fresh rain lingering where thir paws had been. It was the first sign of acceptance from their ancestors, a fox and her brood come to deliver a message.
She had spoken to Glowstar and intended to take Vixenkit as her apprentice on the day of her naming ceremony to be formally accepted by Starclan. Now, standing proud before her first, and hopefully only, apprentice she smiled at touched noses with her, motioning with her head as she spoke. "Come. Tonight we sleep among the stars." Flyingcolors knew that the apprentice struggled with reading lips so she said it slowly but was confident her meaning was conveyed.
Vixenpaw was still slightly suprised that Flyingcolors had decided she could train as a Medicine Cat despite her still new disability. She was also relieved that the medicine cat didn't seem to care about her deafness and was willing to help her learn everything she needed to communicate and heal. When she saw her mentor motion with her head, the tiny she-cat figured it was time to go an get accepted by their ancestors. As the newly named apprentice read Flyingcolors lips, she got about every other word, but knew she was right in her assumptions about where they were headed. Her tail twitched with excitement as she nodded enthusiastically. "Right now?"

"Yes. There is no time to waste. Come." Flyingcolors knew Starclan would accept the new apprentice with open paws because they had chosen her and wanted to put her on the fast track to learning the basics as soon as possible. She would not burden her apprentice with the prophecy she had received at her own naming ceremony but was concerned for the future of the clan. The more knowledge Flyingcolors could give Vixenpaw about healing, the better prepared Dayclan could be for whatever was coming.
Vixenpaw nodded. She wondered if the ugency she felt from her mentor was normal for all new apprentices to medicine. She decided it Probably was, for any hesitation could potentially kill someone. She stepped closer to her mentor, suddenly nervous about leaving the camp for the first time. She knew most kits ventured out, but she'd been so sick when had been at the age where they started sneaking out and looking for adventure. She was positive she was the only new apprentice in the clan that hadn't left the camp before.

Flyingpaw could sense her nerves and figured it was from leaving camp for once. She smiled softly and gently brushed her tail against Vixenpaw's shoulder as a gesture of comfort. Their journey was uneventful and mostly a silent endeavor. As they neared the mooncreek Flyingcolors looked down at her apprentice. "Are you okay?" She asked her softly. There was not much reason to make her words loud enough to hear after all.
[Also, she'll be able to hear in Starclan so there is that c: ]
The journey felt like a long one, to Vixenpaw. By the time they got to the mooncreek, her legs aches and she felt as if she could sleep for a few days. She glanced over at her mentor, "What if StarClan doesn't accept me?" she whispered. What if they didn't accept her because she couldn't hear, and so she couldn't listen when people told her what was wrong with them.

"They will. Trust me." She assured Vixenpaw, moving them closer to the bank of the creek. "When you are ready, lay down and touch your nose to the water." She instructed, laying down and waiting patiently for her apprentice.
Vixenpaw felt a little better at her mentor's words, but the anxiety of being rejected by their ancestors didn't subside. Her stomach clenched as she closed her eyes and touched her nose to the water.

Flyingcolors touched the water at the same instance and opened her eyes, surrounded by the starry shapes of their ancestors. She recognized some of the cats but there were still many she did not recognize. Glancing around, the blue merle was disappointed her mother was not around as it would have been nice to see her even briefly. An old dayclan queen who lived and died before them approached them and smile. "I am Freedspirit, an old queen of Dayclan and this is my daughter, Strawberryblosom. We welcome you, Vixenpaw." She purred happily.
[ I realized I didn't have any Dayclan cats of any significance in Starclan and my other medicine cat/s are still alive so I pulled up an old character from like 2014. I was going to use a different one but he was already reincarnated oops cx ]
Before Vixenpaw even opened her eyes, she knew something was different. She... heard?... cats approaching. And when that registered in her mind, her eyes shot open and she leaped to her paws in excitement. I can hear! her tail curled in excitement. Some part of her knew it was only in her dreams, and it was only possible because of being in contact with StarClan. All of her previous worries about meeting her ancestors faded. She wanted to run around and play, because she could finally hear what was going on around her. But, she forced herself to stay put, even though she did shuffle a little closer to Flyingcolors. "Hello, she replied to the StarClan queen and her daughter. She didn't need to introduce herself, obviously, for they already knew who she was.

"I see you found her." Freedspirit's eyes glittered with a mysterious depth that was unique to Starclan, as if the cats were seeing beyond just what was in front of them. It was always an experience that Flyingcolors had indulged in for her entire life, but it was Vixenpaw's first time so she just smiled down at the apprentice. "Vixenpaw, we welcome you as Flyingcolors' apprentice. From this day forward, she will teach you the path of a medicine cat and Starclan will help guide your path." The old queen lowered her head to touch noses with the apprentice and Flyingcolors' looked at Vixenpaw expectantly.
Vixenpaw didn't know what to say to the long dead Queen. Why had she been so worried, just minutes before, about not being accepted by StarClan. "I look forward to it." the tiny apprentice finally replied cheerfully, her eyes bright.

Flyingcolors smiled and touched noses with Vixenpaw in turn before looking up at Freedspirit and Strawberryblossom. "Please, tell my mother I said hello." The long haired she-cat nodded as Flyingcolors and Vixenpaw slowly faded. See opened her eyes to the still-exquisite view of the Mooncreek and blinked several times to let her eyes adjust. Flyingcolors sat up and stretched her front paws as she waited for Vixenpaw to wake up from her visit.
Really, Vixenpaw didn't want to wake up. She liked the easiness of being able to hear. Reluctantly, she opened her eyes, waking up next to Flyingcolors. While she liked being able to hear, liked the easiness of it, there was an odd comfort for her and the silence around her. She glanced over at her mentor as she stretched and sat up.

Flyingcolors smiled at her apprentice and nodded. "How are you feeling?" It was shocking to visit Starclan the first time and they would hunt on their way back home, since they weren't able to eat in the day prior to visiting she was starving and figured Vixenpaw was likely in a similar state.
"I... Don't know. Weird. It was weird being able to hear for a few minutes." Vixenpaw said with a flinch. "It's even weirder not being able to hear again." She wasn't sure if she wanted to communicate with StarClan anymore, if she was going to feel so conflicted after eachtime.

She nodded. "That's understandable. In Starclan, cats are no longer blind, deaf, or in pain. A cat who had their foot twisted in life will keep that twisted foot but it will no longer hinder or pain them if it did in life. Talking to Starclan does take some getting used to but you won't speak to them often. Sometimes they might send you omens which I will teach you to interpret and you will speak to them from time to time at the mooncreek, and sometimes they will visit you in your dreams." That was her understanding at least. She walked with Starclan cats and saw them much more frequently than a typical apprentice and even saw the Blind protector and the cats who followed them so she could never truly understand the first Starclan experience of a cat who grew up without it.
Vixenpaw nodded towards her mentor, like she understood. She'd known that there wasn't any pain in StarClan, but she hadn't known that it was the same for those who visited their ancestors and were still living. It was weird, in all honesty. Her stomach growled and she realised how hungry she was, and how early it was. It felt like the visit had been short, but it must've been longer than she'd thought it had been. She didn't want to mention it, however. She wasn't sure if they could eat on the journey home after talking with StarClan.

"I'm sure you're starving. Let's see if there is some prey around we can catch." It was important for her apprentice to learn basic hunting and fighting skills just as Flyingcolors had and besides she was way too hungry to wait until getting to camp and figured her apprentice was as well. Sniffing around, she managed to snag a couple of mice and dropped one in front of her apprentice. "I'll teach you a little bit of basic hunting later, for now go ahead and eat up. You deserve it." She said it slowly and smiled before taking a bite from her mouse.
Vixenpaw was greatful that her mentor wasn't going to make her learn how to hunt today. It would probably end terribly for both of them. "Thank you." she mewed before digging in. How would Flyingcolors even teach her how to hunt?
