Oddkit had been watching a butterfly flitter around on a flower, getting it's fill of nectar. She wasn't the most active kit, and tended to tire out quickly. So something that involved her being perfectly still was more up her alley. Not that she was against joining the other kits, but she knew it would never last. At least she could keep watching bugs. But suddenly she let out a raspy cough, shaking the flower and sending the butterfly fluttering off. "Hey, wait." She jumped up to her paws, but the butterfly was out of sight. Letting out a huff, she collapsed back down to the ground.

Rhymingsilence was feeling sore from yet another long night of training, so he was taking it easy today. He'd been lounging around camp for a while now, watching some of the kits play in the distance. One, in particular, caught his eye. The she-kit was by herself, watching a butterfly, and greatly reminding the warrior of his own youth. His ear twitched when she coughed, and his legs carried him to her mindlessly. By the time he realized what he was doing, he was already hovering over the little kit which meant it was probably too late to walk away without being pegged as stranger than he already was.

Oddkit was familiar, yet at the same time not. She had never left camp in her short life, but tended to feel bad most days thanks to her bad health. She didn't even notice Rhymingsilence till he was standing above her, turning to look at him only to realize he was talking to her. And if she could have jumped from lying down, she would have. Instead, the kick sent her less than a foot away, green eyes wide as she struggled for an answer. "Oh... yes. I lost my butterfly friend though."

The warrior flinched as the kit kicked herself backward, surprised by the sudden movement. Instantly, he felt bad for startling the she-kit. He hadn't really planned any of this out very well. He just saw her cough and felt concerned, but that's what nursery aids and queens were supposed to handle. So why was he here again? He cleared his throat awkwardly before nodding at Oddkit's response. She was good. Great. At the word butterfly, his eyes flashed with interest.
"Yes, butterflies can be quite skittish at times. Beautiful though, aren't they?" He dazed out for a moment before shaking himself back. "I'm sure we could find you another one."

Even the frail kit held some resilience. She seemed to bounce back like a spring. Her eyes widened at his answer. Not a lot of cats gave her hobby the time of day, and this was completely new. "Yes! I really like the orange ones with the black stripes." Oddkit's tail wagged behind her, stirring the grass behind her. Though as much as she was excited at the idea of finding another, her face drooped a little, "Really? Cause they don't come to camp that often..."

"Oh, the monarchs!" Rhymingsilence mewed enthusiastically. "That's a good pick and they're one of the more common species." He preferred the rare butterflies himself, but only because he'd exhausted studying the easier-to-find insects. However, Oddkit was right about the camp being a bad spot for them. Alarmed by her drooping face and spurred on by her earlier enthusiasm, the warrior threw logic to the wind. With a quick glance around, he leaned down to the kit and suggested in a whisper, "I know a place outside camp we could go..." What am I doing? Kits are supposed to stay in camp, aren't they?

Oddkit didn't even realize how much she had this warrior wrapped around her paw. Even with how still she had been, she could feel herself getting dizzy. Just the idea of leaving camp was foreign, and her mother Seablossom made sure she never snuck out. She was supposed to stay, she knew. But Oddkit couldn't stop the surge of excitement that ran through her veins at the simple thought of getting to leave. "Really?! You do?!" Maybe she spoke a little too loud, but those green eyes widened in wonder that they were hard to say no to. pao

"Uh, yeah," he answered with another wary glance around camp. He was beginning to reconsider taking the kit outside, but when his gaze returned to her shining eyes, he caved. Oh, well. They'd just have to be quick about their little trip. "Come on, follow me." His paws carried him past her and towards the camp's entrance. The calico walked with his head held high to feign confidence and control. Perhaps, no one would question what he was doing leading a kit into potential danger that way.

(sorry for just suddenly bringing in you in pao and this sudden plot point flurry. i got carried away)
Oddkit looked to the left and the right, not missing that discomfort in Rhymingsilence's eyes but also more concerned about her mother to address it. She rose to her paws slowly, a brief hit of nausea washed over her at the simple motion. But the she-kit recovered quickly, a purr in her throat as she followed the warrior. Seeing his head held high, she mimicked him. Head and tail raised higher than she ever had before, it was almost a strain. But every step brought her closer to precious freedom.
(no worries. I was just confused, nothing out of the ordinary there lol. In that case, maybe we could bring in her dad too? I'm sure Cleaver would love to join in!) strawberrycupidFlurryofstars
Seablossom had stepped out for a moment. Well was more like forced out of camp for a moment. She hadn't eft it much since the destruction of the survival clans, and even more so since having two litters of kits. It was a much needed moment, but her heart worried about poor Oddkit. The little one always seemed to be sick, or on the edge of sick. Seablossom was constantly checking on the little one or dragging her off towards Amberbird for a check-up, whether she needed it or not. Stepping back in the camp entrance, the she-cat took a deep breath, reminding herself the kits would all still be in the nursery where she left them.

(It's all good with me!)
Not knowing who Oddkit's parents were, Rhymingsilence paid no mind to Seablossom as she stepped through the camp entrance. He simply reminded himself to act natural and continued leading the way for Oddkit. Hopefully, she'd be hidden behind him well enough that the she-cat wouldn't even notice. And if she did, she might just mistake her for his apprentice or something. Only a few mouse-lengths apart, he gave Seablossom a friendly nod as he started to walk past.

Oddkit kept pace, least till her mother came around. She really shouldn't have expected different and slowed briefly on the off chance. The slimmest chance really, that she could slip by Seablossom without being seen.
Seablossom would recognize her kits anywhere and definitely, wouldn't miss her sickly one trying to leave camp. "Oddkit!" Just what was she thinking?!? Was she following this warrior? Did he even know she was there? Surely he had to have an idea that the little one was following him out? She blocked the pathway for both the warrior and the kit, her seafoam greens locked on her child awaiting an answer.

Rhymingsilence flinched as the she-cat called out Oddkit's name and then blocked their path. Thoughts swirling around at a nauseating pace, he looked in between the two cats for a while, deciding that they both knew each other. Were they related? It was possible. The warrior really didn't want to be in the middle of this all of a sudden, and started thinking of ways to get out of the situation. He'd already waited so long to say anything as it was. Not wanting to throw Oddkit to the wolves or try to come up with a lie when he could barely even look at Seablossom, he turned his attention to the sky. "Wonderful weather we're having today," he mewed in a strained voice.

Busted. Guess that's what she got for trying to pull this. Not like it was anything new. "H-Hey Mom." Oddkit mewed, her nonstop moving gaze enough to clue Seablossom in that this was planned. Oddkit wasn't good under the pressure, unintentionally wobbling a little till Rhymingsilence spoke up. An opening. Something. It made her straighten up. "It really is, don't you think?"
“Yes. I do, darling but that doesn’t explain why your near the entrance to camp? Care to explain that sweetheart? Or could you Rymingsilence?” Seablossom was furious that her sickly baby was anywhere close to the entrance. If she had her way, the kit would remain in the nursery a few moons longer just to make sure she was good and ready, and healthy enough. Odd kit even dreaming of leaving camp before becoming an apprentice was..was unthinkable!

Oddkit stared down at her paws, that lightheadedness starting to come back. It was like her body's only reaction to anything was to feel sick. Happiness was a stomach ache and guilt was vertigo. It was unthinkable, especially as somehow Seablossom always caught her. Over and over and over again. "Mom, I want to see the world. See the butterflies and a clear sky over my head. I'm tired of always visiting Amberbird." There was no anger in her voice, just sadness.
