(lavellan for our two weirdos to befriend each other! ^^)
In a wooded clearing of FallClan's territory, the sounds of rustling leaves was frequent. Often, it was the only sound present, but a thudding rhythm had taken over the area this evening. Rhymingsilence threw his body into a tree's wall-like trunk. Before he could collide with it, he twisted in midair and met the tree with the pads of his paws. Their soreness was not enough to stop him from pushing off the trunk and landing gracefully a few tail-lengths away. His chest heaved from the exertion as he pounced at another tree. Again and again, switching up directions and how he leapt, but it continued until his paws were nearly bleeding.
Rhymingsilence made to leap at another tree, but one of his paws slipped on a stray bit of leaves. The tom's right flank took the brunt of it as he hit the rough bark. The air tore from his lungs and he toppled onto his back against the forest floor. The calico groaned, but decided the pain would subside after a good night's rest and it shouldn't be enough to stop him from training now. Before he could rise to his feet, he took in the sky overhead and remembered why he was really outside of the camp. The sun was setting and the woods were tinted orange in the fading light.
The waves of cats rushing around camp was sometimes way too much for Wistfuldancer to handle. It choked her, like fangs around her throat as claws sunk into her rapidly beating heart. Occasionally, she just needed to get away from the eyes that followed her, which is how she ended up running out of the nursery and into the surrounding territory. She just needed to breathe. There would probably be repercussions for her running away, but she could face that later. She just needed some time to herself. Although her steps had slowed to a leisurely walk, her chest was still heaving with the panic. Sure, she had been in the clan for a while now, but she still considered most of the cats that surrounded her to be strangers, and there were only so many strangers she could deal with at once.
The rhythmic thuds, oddly enough, helped her catch her breath as she breathed along with it. She closed her eyes, subconsciously making her way closer to the source, blind to everything except for the calming sound. She broke into the wooded clearing just as Rhymingsilence slipped, and the resulting, louder thud made Wistfuldancer's eyes shoot open, the shock pulling a soft cry from her throat. "W-what... A-are you okay?" she stuttered, taking a moment to realize that the source of that sound was a cat, who seemed awfully content with his current position.

A she-cat!? Rhymingsilence bolted to his paws, flinching from the pain, and faced her. He was surprised by her sudden presence and couldn't mask that emotion, but he did try to keep his fluffed out tail behind his back. He was never good about socializing. It didn't matter how much his mentor had lectured him about stepping outside of his comfort zone. The flaw had carried into his warrior days anyway. She-cats were more troublesome for him as well. Though he had no idea why.
"I- I'm fine!" he said, trying to sound that way and utterly failing. Hearing the tone in his own voice, he licked his lips and tried again. "I'm just working on my combat skills... It can get a bit rough sometimes..." Rhymingsilence's gaze fell to the forest floor and his ears twitched nervously.
The quick movements of Rhymingsilence caused Wistfuldancer to jump back as well, her fur on edge. Slowly, it settled back into place as the tom talked, and she observed him. Still, her heart thudded in her chest, internally laughing at her own bad luck. She had left camp because she couldn't stand being surrounded by others, only to run into another cat. Still, it didn't seem likely that Rhymingsilence would pressure her too much, so she cautiously took a step forward.
He was obviously lying about being fine, even Wistfuldancer could tell, but she wouldn't push him about it too much. Instead, she said, "Are... Are you sure you're good? D-do you need to take a break from training or.... something?" Her voice was soft and unsure, like she was testing some sort of boundary. "I can... I can get you food, if you want?" The last three words were pushed out together as an afterthought. She was annoying him, wasn't she?

His eyes followed the she-cat's movements but he was internally coaxing himself to settle down and not become even more rattled. Rhymingsilence was surprised that she hadn't left yet. It seemed like a lot of his clanmates avoided him or only spoke when necessary. How weird it was for someone to go out of their way to show him any care. He cocked his head when she asked him if he needed a break. Maybe he was hurt, but in his opinion, that only showed how much more he needed to train! He was about to say as much when the offer of food distracted him. His stomach growled without his permission and his tail twitched from the sound.
"Thanks," he mumbled. "But I really am ok." Was he being rude? Why was it so hard for him to tell!? His stomach protested again and the calico ducked his head in embarrassment.
Noticing that he was watching her, Wistfuldancer froze. She was walking weird, wasn't she? Maybe not, but if she were to take another step now it would definitely be an awkward movement since she was self-conscious of it now. She was almost relieved that he didn't want her help with anything, yet his words were at odds with his behavior. Or, his stomach's behavior, more specifically, and an odd glimmer of hope sparked in her gut. Maybe she could actually be helpful for once. "Are you sure?" she asked a second time, her head slightly tilted as the soft words escaped her, only faintly less hesitant than before.
Sure, she had offered to get him food, but now that the offer was almost reality, she wasn't sure of herself anymore. She knew how to hunt, but she wasn't that good at it, and she would likely get lost if she were to run back to camp and fetch something from the fresh kill pile. But, she had already offered, and she wasn't going to recede it because of her own doubts. Perhaps she could get lucky and actually catch something rather quickly.

Rhymingsilence couldn't deny his obvious hunger now without coming off ridiculously rude. So, with a pride-stained sigh, he lifted his head to face her again. "If you insist," he stammered, "I wouldn't mind some prey actually." Now that his eyes were on the she-cat again, he noticed she seemed a bit troubled. Or was he mistaken? Perhaps he was just seeing his anxiety in others now. Shaking his head at his own foolishness, the tom relaxed himself enough to sit down. A sharp pain in his side caused his breath to hitch, but he played it off as an incredibly awkward laugh.
Not wanting her to overanalyze his condition, he decided to quickly add, "Hunting's usually good around here this time of day."
It was as if a small weight was lifted off of her heavy shoulders when he agreed to food. At least there was a way that she could be helpful to someone, at least a little. If she could actually catch anything. Once more, her determination was wavering due to her anxieties, which was enough distraction to not catch Rhymingsilence's moment of pain. She looked back at him at, what she thought was, his awkward laugh. Oddly enough, his words did add a bit of comfort to her, and she nodded. "I can go get something quick then," she said, the words leaving her mouth in a rush as she turned and dashed back into the woods, her usual grace an odd mix as she nearly tripped over her own paws.
She could do this. Wistfuldancer may be a nursery aid, but she was still trained in hunting. She just had to remember how to. Once she thought she had put distance between them, she paused, letting out a deep breath, and attempted to relax. Then, she put all of her focus onto hunting.

She had seemed pretty excited to go hunting and Rhymingsilence felt a bit torn. Was she just happy to leave him? He was used to being treated like a weirdo by his clanmates, so maybe she hadn't realized who he was at first. Now, she was probably overflowing with joy to be away. On the other paw, Rhymingsilence felt much more relaxed at being alone as well, even if his feelings were somewhat hurt. Well, in either case, Wistfuldancer would have to return with food at some point soon... right?
"I'm overthinking things again," he muttered. With nothing else to do, his pain seemed to dominate his thoughts which made him feel so much worse. He glared at the tree. It was the tree's fault he was hurt right now. It had absolutely nothing to do with his persistence to overwork himself to exhaustion and/or injury.
She had to hurry. If she took too long, would he start to think that she had abandoned him? Even if not, it would be rude of her to take too long when she volunteered for this. How much time had even passed since she left? Was it only a minute, or had time somehow flown by as she creeped through the woods, her graceful steps useful in her silent movements. She could do this, she was quiet. She was used to these movements, she could certainly sneak up on something and catch it.
However, that was perhaps the only thing going in her favor, as it wasn't too much longer before she spotted a rabbit. It was peacefully munching on some wildflowers, although it was a little small, it should be enough for Rhymingsilence. Before she could question her abilities further, she circled around, getting into a position that she had thought would work better, and pounced. The moment the rabbit looked at her, though, the guilt had set in, causing her to hesitate. The brief moment was enough for the rabbit, and it started fleeing, with Wistfuldancer chasing right behind, back in the direction that she had left the other warrior.

The scent of rabbit wafted into his nostrils and his tongue flicked out to lick his muzzle. So she had caught something after all! He sat up a little straighter at the thought, and waited to see Wistfuldancer rejoin him in the clearing. Suddenly, the underbrush ahead of him began to rustle, and in a matter of seconds, the rabbit he'd smelled before came scurrying out towards him. The she-cat followed after but appeared to be struggling. "Oh!" the warrior exclaimed in surprise, not really knowing what to do. It was her hunt and it would be rude to step in... or would it be rude not to? He let his instincts take over and crouched down to tackle the rabbit before it could run past, but as he went to jump, the pain in his side flared up and he fell face first to the ground. "Mmph," he said through a mouthful of dirt.
Faster, faster! She had to catch that rabbit! Wistfuldancer was frowning in effort, her gaze locked on the bunny. For a moment, she blocked out all of her surroundings except for the rodent that she was chasing, determined to bring it back to Rhymingsilence. He was relying on her, she couldn't disappoint him. That was the moment when she heard his muffled groan, and was snapped out of her focus. Still running, her eyes snapped to the side to see the warrior, face planted in the dirt he was now eating. How did she end up back here? No, no, more importantly, was he hurt!?
"Rhymi-ngff" she had started, but was cut off when the rabbit suddenly switched directions, cutting right between the she-cats legs and causing her to trip over her own paws, forcing her to follow suit in their new meal of dirt. Oh no. With her vision now blocked by the ground, she could only hear as the rabbit escaped. She had messed up, much worse than she had expected. How could she even think that she could do it? She wanted to sink her face further into the earth, maybe just vanish completely. She stayed like that, sprawled out on the ground, for a few more moments before remembering Rhymingsilence in a very similar situation, and her worries of him hurting himself even further. She jumped back to her paws, nearly tripping once again in her rush, and, sputtering dirt everywhere, ran the few steps to his side. "A-are you okay?" she asked, a sense of deja vu washing over her. Though, this time, there was a lot more dirt on both of their faces.
