A lifetime has passed him. No, more than that. An eternity. But he knew it didn't pass him, he passed it.
For he wandered with no where to go, the demons were never far behind. Fragments of memories, sharp as glass that cut just as deep, led to him going in a haze. There were times when he could have stopped, have finally settled down and attempt to put down the weight that bore him down. But fire licked at his heels, uncertainty's shadow loomed. Every time he tried to put it down, he only picked up more. Only saw their faces when he slept. So he only knew how to pick up and leave.
Some days he wondered where the devil was, how far ahead he was. And how the survivor could only walk. Not even having the strength to run.
At first, he didn't even notice the weight become lighter. Whether it was real or not, his footsteps seemed to pass faster. His pace picked up, eyes somehow lifting from the ground. His neck made a sort of sickening pop as he looked up, face to face with the moon.
Leviathan didn't know what to expect when a strong, impossible freeze rippled through his fur as he lay curled up in his nest. He had only intended to nap off the stress he'd been carrying around for the last moon. Of course it didn't help that he and Avette had gotten into a fight and had yet to make amends despite his best efforts. Signing he pushed himself up from his nest and exited the den, the breeze only seemed to pick up, pushing him forward to the point it was easier to just go with it rather than fight it.
"Alright, Alright I'm going." Still the breeze basically dragged him all the way to the open moor where it suddenly stopped leaving Leviathan a wind blown mess and a little irritated. That is, until he spotted the tall gray cat staring up at Selene like he might just float away and join her. A look he knew all too well. He could already tell that from a distance that this cat was exhausted and starving based on his bony looking frame, and for the first time in a long time the cardinal seemed worried. Never before in his time as leader had any cat come to him in such a state, and never before had he'd been so blatantly lead dragged to a cat.
"I understand" he said to himself, or maybe it was to the wind, as he took careful steps forwards the tall yet scrawny sliver cat. "Greetings." He called softly, waving his tail in a friendly gesture.

Comparatively, the winds turned to breezes as they reached him. Grey fur fluffing up and revealing his ribs and bones even more. He barely noticed. Cause, this was too strange. He had walked for so long, probably for days without stopping, and he felt as light as a feather. Aches and pains were blown away from his nerves, like they weren't even there. He was no fuller, no closer to healing his cracked paws. But they seemed to seep from him, like he was bleeding all over without a cut on his body. But why?
His ear flicked when Leviathan spoke, wondering if it would all go away the moment he saw someone else. Anchored to the ground, yet feeling like he was gonna be lifted away at any moment. He looked anyway, green eyes wide like he was an alien looking at an earthling for the first time. And the feeling only seemed to grow as the wind whipped his whiskers back. It was almost too peculiar.
"Where am I?" His words were dry, holding a kind of weight that made him feel like he was speaking sand. Though as each grain hit the grass underneath him, he felt weightless.
If anything at least Levee had managed to keep horror veiled when he actually saw the tom up close, and he couldn't help but wonder how the wind didn't send him flying, there had to be nothing weighing him down to the ground at this point. When he spoke it was like sandpaper grating in his ear but still the cardinal didn't flinch or act in anyway that could be perceived as judgemental. He took a seat infront of the gray cat, resting his tail over his paws in what could be considered the picture of dignity. Something about the stranger's eyes was eerily captivating in a way that made it hard to look away.
After several moments it seemed like the other's words had finally reached him and Leviathan tore his gaze away from the stranger looking to the side. "You're in MoonClan territory just outside of the forest where the followers of Selene call home." He spoke smoothly turning his amber gaze to look at the moon.

"Ah, I must be trespassing then. My apologies." Nereus dipped his head to Leviathan, completely unaware he was facing the leader. It was the only reason he didn't charge off in fear. That, and he still felt...wrong. It was completely wrong and nonsensical. The weight, one that had held him down for so long. One that he dragged with each step. It wasn't gone, but it felt so much lighter. How does such a thing happen?
"Followers of Selene, huh? There must be something different about this forest." Not that he could tell what. It wasn't his to find out. He was trespassing, right? It'd be better to leave. To be blind, maybe for a little longer.
"It's only trespassing if you come here with ill intent" He said coolly. He didn't want to chase off the newcomer so soon, and blow whatever opportunity that was being spoon fed to him, even if he didn't fully understand what it was exactly. "I'd say you are a follower too, are you not? You seemed to have followed her here." It wasn't that long ago that Leviathan himself had journeyed from a far off place at the will of Selene, with nothing but the moon and her whispers to guide him to MoonClan.
"Anyone guided by the moon's light is welcome here."

He stayed quiet as the other talked, blue eyes shining with some confusion. "Your graciousness is appreciated, but the moon's ... light?" Nereus looked down briefly before looking up at the moon. And like before, just looking at her made him feel like each trouble were lifted off his shoulders. Like the moon itself was gonna devour him. And yet, it didn't. As soon as he managed to look away, he felt like he was cast back down to earth. The whole encounter may have only lasted a few moments or for hours, he didn't know. But he wanted to. Suddenly, he turned to Leviathan, mayhaps getting a little too close and placed his paw over his'.
"Would you be so kind as to explain this... moon's light, to me? My name is--" and then he stopped, interrupting himself and forcing silence as he remembered he didn't remember his name. Right, that might be important. And now things had been made awkward. Gosh, what was he gonna do now? He quickly turned to look up at the moon again, silently begging for something when the wind picked up again. And it whispered a name. One that rang clear in his mind.
"Nereus. My name is Nereus." The blue tom declared, a sudden burst of confidence in his voice.
For all the control he normally had, the cardinal hadn't been expecting the sudden contact, and his ears intentively when back, flattening against his head as his whole body stiffened. He didn't pull away though, completely caught in the snare that was Nereus' eyes. They drew him in and held him in place, and Leviathan hated the effect they had on him with every fiber of his being but he could not bring himself to tear his amber gaze away.
"The moon's light, and Selene's light are one and the same." he spoke quickly. "Selene is the moon goddess who blesses all who worship her and follow her teachings. Those who follow her light often end up here looking to be cleansed of the sins from the life they lead before, all who are willing to accept her into their hearts are welcome here." As he spoke he head the other cat's gaze, relaxing so that his ears were no longer flattened against his head. "I am Leviathan, her Cardinal."

Nereus barely noticed, so overcome at the thought of having an answer. Of having some way to lift this burden. He was never an overly religious cat, came across a few trying to explain their ways, and he was never that interested. But this one, it felt different. Must have been the breeze on his back. He saw the way Leviathan shifted, but didn't acknowledge it. And he listened with rapt attention, green eyes wide as he went on. Selene. Sins... he needed those cleansed. A Cardinal... must be important.
"I see." It was then that he finally realized how close he was and stepped back, dipping his head in apology. "I must have been drawn then. Do you mind if I come with you back to Moonclan. I can make myself useful. Let's see... it's been a while but I have some medical training."
The cardinal's ears perked up on his last statement, thinly veiled interest glittering in his amber eyes, as he spared a quick suspicious glance up at the moon. I know what you're doing it seemed to say. Leave it to Selene to be so cheeky and yet so blunt in her intentions. Lately Leviathan had been learning that seldom did he run into cats on accident. Every cat to cross his path was sent to him by Selene for one reason or another. Lucky for Nereus that at least one of them understood why he was drawn there.
"Indeed you were, and you may. It just so happens we are in need of a cat with your skills. I believe that is the reason you were drawn here." As he spoke Levee was already plotting the quickest path back to camp, the last thing he wanted was for the frail tom to keel over on his way back to camp. "If you don't mind me asking, when was the last time you ate properly?"

(happy 2,000th post here to me)
Nereus was a bit surprised how quickly Leviathan seemed to take to that idea. It had been moons, far too many since he actually did any healing. Most of the time, he dealt with his own scrapes. He could also already feel his heart pound at the thought of having to care for a clan like this. Own stores and all. It had been a long time since he felt the desire to heal, to serve. Maybe this Selene could help restore that too. The breeze seemed to calm around them.
"Really, how peculiar." Nereus' soft giggle was more like a wheeze. Drawn here to heal. It seemed so strange but also so right. When Leviathan asked about his hunger, he suddenly looked down like he completely forgot the state he was in. How his ribs and joints jutted out, and how his fur looked so dull and harsh. Nereus lightly pressed a paw to his side, almost swearing he could feel his organs gurgling around in their cage before lifting his paw away. "Hmm, let's see. Probably about 5 sunrises." It wasn't that bad, he went with less before.
All Leviathan could do was blink, slowly and just once as he stared back at Nereus in disbelief and parental disappointment. Which was a feat in itself seeing as he didn't have any children. How this cat was alive was truly a miracle. If there was any actual doubt that this cat was blessed by Selene in someway it dissipated quickly. "Right..." Levee responded sounding rather uncertain, something the Cardinal seldom was. "Wait here" the tom instructed. It took no time at all for Leviathan to find something for the worn out tom to eat, and in a few minutes, returned with a rabbit in his jaws. He laid the kill at Nereus' paws before stepping back to sit neatly with his tail resting over his paws.

Nereus tilted his head, almost confused as to why he was looked at. Like not eating for 5 days was normal. It was for him, at least, body slowly accustomed to the lack of food. He was truly blessed by Selene, though couldn't quite know that. Even when Leviathan told him to wait there, he was tempted to get up, to follow. But Nereus did as instructed, just like always. He only kept his jaw off the floor cause it was attached to his face when he came back with the rabbit. "No, I could never eat all this by-" He started, but as Levee stepped back, he felt that hole in his body start to growl again. "Thank you, Cardinal." The gray tom dipped his head briefly before eating, surprisingly delicate and slow for one that hasn't ate in a few days. But after not eating as often as he did, he learned how to ease himself back into it.
