Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
Dovegarden was tending to herbs in the garden when she heard something rustling around. The white she-cat glanced over toward the noise and noticed a mouse. It was crawling around slowly, dragging its body forward. Dovegarden was about to grab it and kill it for a nice meal when she stopped herself. There was something curious about the way it heaved itself forward, uncaring that a predator's scent was surrounding it. The garden-keeper leaned in closer, laying her body in a crouch so she could get a better view. She assumed it had eaten an herb in the garden somehow and poisoned itself. Instead of giving it a swift death, the she-cat continued watching the mouse struggle. Something inside her stirred. She was so fascinated by its desperate motions, and she couldn't look away.
_ ooc; free for anyone, she's gonna be a Bad Cat one day & this is basically her origin story
Onebird was looking over the tansy with a curious look, noticing that some of the leaves were beginning to turn a light brown around the edges. She always felt so frustrated when gardening didn't go the way she planned and with tansy being such an important herb she definitely wasn't happy. Looking around, she noticed nearby another cat also tending to the herbs, Dovegarden. Onebird had always had a strange feeling about the other cat, as though something wasn't quite right with her. Even so, she had always pushed it off, she was after all sometimes too quick to judge others before getting to know them. She was able to see the she-cat out of her right eye, the only one that worked, and she watched quietly as Dovegarden stared intensely at the ground. Onebird wished desperately that she could see better, maybe if she had both eyes she would be able to see what was so interesting. "Is there something wrong with one of the plants, Dovegarden?" She yelled over. "The tansy over here is having some trouble, I hope the rest of the herbs are doing alright." Onebird smiled gently, hoping that she wasn't bothering Dovegarden too much.
Dovegarden was pulled out of her trance as she heard another cat speak. She was still crouched down, but she slowly lifted her head to see who was talking to her. Ah, Onebird. The cat didn't have vision in both eyes, and Dovegarden briefly thought about how that affected her. How would it affect a mouse, only having one eye? She could so easily poke one out of this mouse. It didn't even notice she was there. But that just felt too easy, and the experiment could be better on a mouse that wasn't already going so slowly. She pushed it to the back of her mind to try later and replied to Onebird, "Nothing is wrong over here. I think a mouse got into our herbs. It's acting a bit strange." The white she-cat swiftly grabbed it with her mouth and bit down on its neck. Bummer that it had to die so swiftly, but she could no longer study it. Dovegarden sat up with the bloody mouse still in her mouth and brought it over to Onebird, placing it down gently in front of her. "Let me take a look at this tansy. Why don't you have something to eat?"
(ahh i'm sorry it took so long, i'm in a different state helping out family but i'll try to be more active ^^')
The kindness of the other she-cat suprised Onebird. She had always thought of Dovegarden as a bit stand-offish but the offer of food warmed One-bird heart. She knew that some of the cats looked at her deformed face and thought her less capable, and she tried everything in her power to prove them wrong. It was nice when she didn't have to act like she had something to prove. The mouse that Dovegarden had dropped in front of her looked plump and delicious if only Onebird was hungry at all. "Thank you but I just ate a little bit ago," she smiled thankfully. "I'm sure some cat back at camp would love this though, I can bring it back after we tend to the garden."
Her tail slumped for a moment as Onebird turned down the mouse. There went her next experiment, testing to see whether the poison could travel from the prey to the predator. Dovegarden pushed it to the side with her paw, deciding she'd put it in the freshkill pile later and monitor which cat snatched it when Onebird continued speaking, offering to take it herself. The white garden keeper shrugged. "That would be helpful, thanks Onebird." She ignored the mouse, moving on to examine the tansy. "When did you notice something was wrong with the plants?"
Onebird was happy to be given something useful to do, it had been a while since she had really brought prey back to camp and the idea of doing it again made her feel important. Maybe to some, it would look like she was a true warrior bringing back food. She shook the thought from her head as she focused back on the tansy. "This morning," she said, looking at the brown, curling edges. "They just don't look right." Onebird had to admit that she wasn't the brightest garden keeper, she tried her best and often succeeded when the plants were cooperating, but when something went wrong she tended to get flustered and had trouble fixing it.
Dovegarden sniffed at the browning tansy. Its usually sweet scent wasn't as cloying, and she sighed. "I had hoped the tansy would make it through Leafbare, and it seemed to until we got some late frost. It could have killed this bit here. Maybe we should tear it up from the root." Dovegarden knew tansy to be somewhat toxic to pregnant cats, and she wondered who else it could be toxic for. The she-cat decided that it was probably unnecessary to rip up as much plant as she was suggesting instead of removing the bad leaves, but honestly she wanted to keep the healthy bits and dry them for herself.
ooc; lol i'm speed reading tansy facts but I gave up, this doesn't have to be super accurate right
"Good idea," Onebird smiled at Dovegarden, she was thankful that the other cat was so helpful and she could only hope that they would somehow be able to get along well after this. She didn't have her hopes up in terms of being friends but she at least hoped she would have someone to talk to on a more regular basis. "You always know what to do, Dovegarden. Thanks for helping me." Onebird added, trying not to sound too happy for having someone talk to her, and having someone fix this problem.
The garden keeper eyed Onebird as she began digging up the tansy. Dovegarden wondered about the other she-cat and how much she knew. While she had never thought herself to be paranoid, her new apprentice had implied that she had heard how Dovegarden had odd tendencies. Whether that was a bluff and a guess or the truth, Dovegarden would likely never know. But until she did, she needed to lie low and be careful. "Sure," she said, trying to smile reassuringly. "Always happy to help a fellow clanmate."
Onebird stepped alongside her to help dig up some off the plant that had gone bad. “You know,” she began cautiously, “I never knew what to think of you, you were so quiet, I mean I don’t talk a lot either, but you’re actually quite nice.” Oneird said, hoping she didn’t come off too awkward. She didn’t mean to imply that she had thought badly of the other she-cat previously, only to say that she hadn’t really known much about her.
Dovegarden kept digging. "Uh-huh," she mumbled, half-listening to Onebird. Playing nice was annoying when it just made cats want to talk to you. Briefly, she wondered what herbs could be used to make the tongue swell. Perhaps she should begin investigating that for later. Her ears perked up at the end of Onebird's sentence. Nice? No way. She stopped digging to stare at the other she-cat with the full intensity of her gaze. Her golden eyes looked right into Onebird's namesake. "Maybe you shouldn't be so friendly toward me."
The words were harsh, but Dovegarden meant for them to be advice. This cat had been too kind, and she was either trying to manipulate Dovegarden into saying something she shouldn't or that was her personality. If it was the latter, there was a high chance her clanmate was going to get her feelings hurt one day. "I just mean that I'm not as nice as I've led you to believe. So just be careful." Dovegarden finished with the tansy, ripping it out a bit forcefully. Her tendencies toward harming others came from scientific interest, not from hatred or any other emotional motive. If Onebird was truly just trying to make a friend, Dovegarden felt like she at least owed her a warning. Onebird needed to be wary around her because she just couldn't help herself. It was best not to let anyone get close lest her interests hurt them by accident.
