Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
The wind swept across the vast golden wheat fields like the tall grass of a safari. The warmth of the sun shimmered warmly into their land and and just as always their prey and wealth was plentiful. DayClan had always been a fruitful blessing of a land with such an abundance of prey they could afford to have a special rank dedicated to domesticated and training prey known as the Animal Whisperers. Life was easy as it always was, the only thing a DayClan cat had to worry about was what an trouble an outsider might bring to their home. However with the SunClan alliance back on and their alliance with Primal Instinct and Renegade Regime strong there was little to be frightened about.
Glowstar was resting in camp as a patrol came back, in Alvah Faris's jaw was a massive crow, it almost looked like a hawk. The tom rested it down onto the freshkill pile, licking his paw as though his catch weren't a big deal. Alvah Faris turned to look at the rest of the large patrol he had taken out with him. They had found quite a bit of crows eating carcasses and were able to catch them off guard.
"This is a lot of prey, make sure you're not over hunting," Glowstar warned. She knew they had a big clan to feed, but given the size of the crows it felt like they had a little too much. Normally it would be no big deal and they could gift it to SunClan, but SunClan had superstitions about crows so that wasn't going to happen.
(You can rp a DayClan cat in camp or a patrol member bringing back a crow)
Foxtrotter carried a large crow in his jaws over to the fresh-kill pile. He laid it on the pile before turning to meet Glowstar's gaze. "It was an opportunity we couldnt pass up. If we have to much, perhaps we can gift it to someone else like Sunclan or Moonclan." He didnt know much about Sunclan and hadn't heard that they were superstitious. It wouldn't surprise him, though. Sunclan was weird.
The smell of fresh-kill hit Windchaser's nose and she rose from her sunny spot, making her way over to the pile. "Crows?" The ginger and white warrior tilted her head. "They're a bit tough to eat but I suppose I couldnt turn down fresh kill." She picked a crow from the pile and carried it over to the nursery. She plucked off feathers and gave them to her kits to play with while she enjoyed her crow. It was tough and stringy as she expected but it was warm and fresh which was enough to satisfy her.
"Look at the size of those birds!" Moltenkit chirped as he ran up to the crow that Alvah Farris had dropped. He pawed at it curiously. For a bird it had such beautiful velvety black plumage, although it sort of had an off-odor to it, a rot that clung to its breast thanks to its carrion-rich diet.
Kinkedrose dropped her crow in the fresh-kill pile and frowned. Glowstar was right, they really had indulged a bit too much, hadn't they? No one expected for each cat who lunged at the murder to actually catch a crow, but that's exactly what had happened. That being said, the Clan had more kits now than they had had in a long time, so perhaps this wouldn't be so bad after all, "Glowstar, maybe we should cancel this evening's hunting patrol and have a nice clan-wide dinner instead? I can help prepare the birds. I think they would go great paired with lemon and pepper."
"Absolutely not." Everlastingfire's growl had such force behind it that Kinkedrose winced. She turned around to see the crimson tom storm into camp. His sunstone eyes were brimming with what could only be described as a cultish rage, "We need to get these crows out of camp immediately. They are the worse kind of omen; you should leave them where you found them and pray that the Sun God forgives and protects us from what is to come."
As much as Everlastingfire wanted to make a show of illusions to prove his point, he frankly did not mess with crows. It made his paws itch even standing near them. He was afraid that using magic against these birds would either not work or make things worse.
Windchaser's ears perked as Everlastingfire raged into camp. "Oh please, Everlastingfire. Don't tell me you actually believe in scary nursery tales" she teased, her voice muffled by a mouthful of crow. She quickly swallowed before continuing. "They're just birds. There's nothing superstitious about big black birds. They're just stories."
Everlastingfire looked positively repulsed as Windchaser took bite after bite of the crow. It was enough to make him gag but he held it in, determined to be strong despite the fact that his stomach was in knots, "Even if you put what you call 'nursery stories' aside, crows will eat anything, from a simple earth worm all the way up to carrion and other crows. I guess if you are OK with letting something like that enter your body then have at it. You'll regret it."
He just stood there and lashed his tail from side to side, truly at a loss with this situation. Honestly he didn't even want to be in DayClan right now, he aught to turn back and head home, but that would be the same as admitting defeat and he couldn't do that either.
"Ha! Got you!" Moltenkit, the very same kit who had just been poking at a crow, had Everlastingfire's tail between his paws.
The crimson tom slapped the kit so fast that the little bengal went tumbling a fox-length away.
"Food is food." Windchaser answered, swallowing another piece. However, when Everlastingfire hit the kit, Windchaser shot to her paws and launched at the tom, faster than a bullet. She halted just short of his muzzle. "Who do you think you are?" She spat, rage burning in her green eyes. "Your angry about a large meal gifted from Starclan because you think it's a bad omen so you take it out on a kit! Your worse than these crows!" She turned, grabbed a crow in her jaws, and flung it at Everlastingfire. She watched as it bounced off the God's head.
"Leucisticcrow, do something about Windchaser!" Everlastingfire barked as he put a good fox-length between himself and the DayClan queen who was quickly becoming the bane of his existence. He closed his eyes and recited SunClan's daily prayers quietly to himself in the hopes of discouraging the curse that had been laid upon him the second the crow touched his head. His head, of all places, where there was still a poorly healed wound from the last time a crazed DayClan she-cat had thrown something at him. It was already throbbing; he just hoped it wasn't bleeding again. Thankfully, his glamour made it so no one could see the wound.
"Did you. JUST. HIT MY SON?" Poppyheart exited the nursery on a warpath but padded straight over to Moltenkit to inspect the bengal. He had landed on his feet and, while a little shaken up, was unscathed. He glared at Everlastingfire and tendrils of orange fur stuck between the kittens claws. Poppyheart was too stupid to notice that the fur didn't match its source, though, "Fuzzyheart! Peachblush! Someone teach that tom a lesson, he can't treat our kits that way!"
"Oh StarClan..." Kinkedrose sighed as she all this go down. She sort of wished she had a shoulder to lean on right now but she hadn't been back in DayClan long enough to make any new friends. She loved being here but it had been nothing but drama since he return.
Leucisticcrow's ears stood up alert at Everlastingfire's command. He licked at his paw refusing to pay any mind to Everlastingfire before faking a wave of pain, cringing for good effect and flattened his ears. Walking over to Windchaser he grabbed her by the scruff and began to tug her, but let go immediately when he stared up overhead. Circling them was a massive flock of crows, anyone could have thought the entire sky turned dark from all the dark colored birds in the sky.
Glowstar didn't seem to hesitate for a moment and immediately jumped up onto the pointed stone, "Everyone move the prey and yourselves indoors now, something is coming."
Fuzzyheart had originally come out to beat up whoever hurt his kit, however he found himself instinctively lifting his paw up into the air when he felt the wind change suddenly and ended up slamming down a crow that came hurdling at him from the sky into the ground. His claws immediately stabbing into the crows neck as he let out snarl. However like a nest of hornets, the crows could see one of their own killed in front of them and descended down upon the clan camps, their beaks sharp and talons vengeful, at first at Fuzzyheart, but then just about anyone.
Fuzzyheart was on the ground in moments, twenty crows eagerly trying to tear him a part while fifty others were still swarming DayClan's camp trying to attack anyone they could, especially those who had brought in crow.
The ginger and white immortal council member dug her claws into the ground to keep Leucisticcrow from dragging her away but it only lasted a few moments before the black tom's grib on her released. Confused but outraged, she rose to her paws with one paw raised ready to strike Leucisticcrow in the back of the head when suddenly the sky darkened. She paused and looked toward the sky as the biggest flock of crows that she had ever seen began to circle the camp. Her eyes widened in Surprise and her ear twitched at Glowstar's command but before anyone could move, one rogue crow swooped at Fuzzyheart in which he quickly swiped away. That only angered the crows and soon, the flock was attacking. They seemed to be attacking the patrol that brought in the crows. Though, soon, they began attacking her. Probably because she had eaten one. They plucked at her fur, pecked at her body and eyes, and wacked her with their flapping wings. "Get away from me, you carrion eating freaks?" Windchaser hissed, slashing out at the pecking crows.
Foxtrotter
The russet Somali tom had been watching the fight between Windchaser and Everlastingfire when they crows began to attack. They pecking beaks felt like sharp rocks banging against his skin. It hurt so he began bucking and flailing around in an attempt to dislodge the creatures. "Come on everyone! Get in your dens!" Foxtrotter began ushering everyone toward the dens and away from the crows.
"Every cat for themselves!" Everlastingfire hollered as a few crows dived toward him. He knocked them both away pretty easily on their first attack but he hadn't expected them to turn around and come right back at him as quickly as they did. One of them grazed his shoulder while the other managed to peck him right on the top of the head - where he already had an old injury - and he yet out a painful yowl. The two crows attacking him fell to the ground writhling but seemed very otherwise unharmed. Of course, that only infuriated the rest of the murder, who continued their onslaught. Everlastingfire had been doing his best to back away all the while but stupidly found himself in a corner, "Someone get these things off me!"
"Dad!" Moltenkit didn't waste a second bounding over to Fuzzyheart's aid. Beneath his short bengal fur his muscles, surprisingly toned for a kit, bunched and he leapt into the air, wrapping his paws around one of the crows. He was vaguely aware that his mother was screaming at him to stop but he just saw red and wanted to kill this beast. He bit down as hard as he could on the bird's neck and tasted blood but the thing wasn't dying. He readjusted his grip just as a second grow dug its talons into his shoulders and began to take flight. All four of Moltenkit's feet were off the ground but somehow he still had his fangs dug into his original target with no intention of releasing it. He was basically a hissing, spitting and flying crow sandwich.
"WHAT IN THE WORLD IS HAPPENING!?" Poppyheart was 100% panic mode and just kept hooting and hollering at any cat that was near her. She had lost track of Moltenkit in all this and was vaguely worried but mostly she just wanted to go home. Since her arrival DayClan had already been through three new deities and now were being swarmed by crows. She had expected this to be a vacation of sorts were she got to do whatever she wanted which had been mostly true except for the peace she was used to at home didn't even come close to matching the hellish pace that DayClan seemed to upkeep day after day. The question she had asked during her frist couple of days here was answered: This WAS normal for DayClan. She screamed as a crow dived at her head. She was totally helpless.
"Oh dear..." Kinkedrose's eyes went wide as she saw the shadow of crows descend upon the camp. She could fight as well as any cat but it wasn't something she particularly liked to do especially when the enemy had wings. She did her best to play defense and avoid the attacks while she brushed shoulders with Foxtrotter, trying to get all of the other cats into their den safely.
Jadie Glowstar searched for Everlastingfire finding him attempting to flee, inhaled a breath before diving into the crowd after him.
"Everlasting!" She called over the torrent of caws and the massive scuffle around them, "Shine as bright as you can now, everyone's life depends on it."
SpotJetclaw She turned her head to Windchaser, "Go and shelter with Buttercuppaw and Zinniapaw and grab as many warriors as you can to come with you. I'm going to find Lioningsnarl and Astralbelly."
HoneystormCleaversimplylight "Alvah Faris and Fia Cendrillion, unleash kill mode onto the crows and don't deactivate until everyone's inside," Glowstar said before dashing off to find Lioningsnarl and Astralbelly. They were Animal Whisperers and there was no greater emergency to need them.
Kill mode? Fia Cendrillon had no clue what that meant. But it seemed fairly explanatory. She crouched slightly, but then, curiously, paused staring at the sky.
The scent of death clung to the air above them, just out of reach, and crows just started dropping. They fell like rain, hard and fast, and hit the ground dry and brittle, as though they'd died and been left out in the sun to decay. Everything about it seemed inherently wrong, tainted. But it was hard to concentrate on that part when the power was clearly being used to help the clan.
She stepped through the entrance to camp, her expression as bored as ever. Dark wisps seemed to swirl around her paws, obscuring them, and it was hard to tell if they were truly there, or dissolved into this smoke-like substance. Where Wanderingwight's paws touched, the greenery died, and her eyes were colored in deep copper that resembled blood a bit too closely for comfort in that moment. It didn't take a genius to realize that the Maverick was the cause of the deathly presence hanging just above them. "Well, you seem to be rather panicky for this situation." The heavily scarred feline drawled, tilting her head as she observed the terrified DayClan cats through falling bird bodies.
Windchaser wanted to object but before she could, Glowstar was already rushing away. She didn't want to sit here and do nothing. She wanted to teach the crows a lesson but unfortunately, she had orders from Glowstar. Pinning her ears in both annoyance toward Glowstar and the crows, she made her way over to Buttercuppaw who was beside her sister, Zinniapaw, trying to swipe at the crows that kept swooping at them. "Girls, follow me. We need to get as many warriors sheltered."
Buttercuppaw
"But ma! Maybe I can talk to 'em and find out why they're here!" She insisted, her eyes round and pleading.
Windchaser
"Absolutely not. Your still in training and I don't want you making a mistake and telling them to increase their forces or ask them to poop on us. Now, do as I say!" Windchaser's voice was harsh and her expression stern. She was overwhelmed by the situation and did not need to hear any protesting from her daughter's.
Buttercuppaw
With a frustrated groan, she obeyed, ushering her sister toward the apprentice's den.
Lioningsnarl was a predator expert, not prey. The smart golden tom had left the camp the instant the crows began to appear and was not intending to come back anytime soon.
Glowstar's call reached Everlastingfire's ears and for a moment he stood still. The crows that were swarming him were confused by his sudden change and paused to see what he did next, almost as if they could tell a storm was brewing. That's right! What was he doing, cowering in a corner because of a few pesky grows? As ominous as they were, he had the power of the Sun God at his paws, these birds were nothing compared to that. Evidently he had already cast his pain curse on the two crows at his feet; their wings flapped helplessly, their beaks open and screaming. He could feel the spell now, seeping straight from his chest, twisting in the air around the birds at his feet. In an effort to attack the source of the pain they could not identify, they had begun to attack each other. A smile spread across Everlastingfire's lips. They deserved a death like that. He looked up at the sky as other Elementals in DayClan started killing the vermin and he spread the pain curse upwards. Birds began to fall immediately and pelt the cats below, all to easy to kill now, although none of the ones he attacked were dead unless the impact from their fall was enough to do it.
The crow that was carrying Moltenkit was struck by Everlastingfire's attack and dropped the bengal immediately. He hadn't been more than a couple feet above the ground so landing wasn't dangerous, at least not for a kit. He brought down the first crow he attacked with him and the positioned it in a way that, when he fell, the creature's neck snapped, "I killed it!" He screamed, leaving the limp body where it was and going after one of the afflicted crows on the ground, making quick work of it, too.
Glowstar looked up to the sky as crows began to drop dead, but the swarm was so big that she could still see a reasonable amount of them left. They were such a vengeful species, but she could tell that some were retreating while others powered on.
"Hey, how did it feel to do something good?" Glowstar asked Wanderingwight and Everlastingfire, a smile playing at her lips. But before they could answer much she was already retreating to the medicine cat den, "Brakewings, you're up, Fuzzyheart, Moltenkit, and plenty others could use a check up." Cleaver
Brakewings was bravely crouched within the entrance to his den. He was a former warrior, and he had swatted at a few of the crows, but it was his job to stay safe. They couldn't have the medicine cat getting injured, right? At his leader's call, he straightened up and crept forward a few paces.
"You heard Glowstar! Everyone injured, come into my den," the medicine cat demanded, "and line up in order of your injuries. No fussing."
Sweetiepeach helped Fuzzyheart limp over to Brakewings allowing the tom to lean on her side. The dark brown bengal was covered in scratch wounds as well as large gashes left by their talons, but the worst was the wound bleeding from his eye. He already had one eye missing, to lose another to blindness was unfathomable. "I can't see, but my vision will come back... I think," Fuzzyheart said as though diagnosing himself.
Brakewings assessed him swiftly. Isolating the most dangerous wounds was easy now, he was well-practiced and it wasn't a subtle art. None of his wounds were life-threatening, but the scratch on his eye did look nasty.
"Okay, lay down over here. Keep your eye closed and hold on these cobwebs to soak up the blood," he instructed, returning from his stores with a sticky pawful of webs. "When it stops bleeding, come get me. Who else is hurt?" He turned to scan the group.
