pLuto Cinderwraith stretched beneath the watery moonlight, her black and white pelt shimmering like a lost star fallen to the earth. Her eyes were bright and joyous, her mouth turned up in a smile. She had been deigned worthy to train a student in the ways and values of Selene and had looked forward to this day since her own time as a student. Still, she couldn't deny a sense of wrongness she felt from the new leadership and shuttered slightly. The air still hadn't lost its chill and, though her pelt was long and thick, Cinderwraith felt the cold settle into her bones.
"Snowpaw?" she called, popping her head into the student's den. "It's time. Are you ready to learn what it is to be a MoonClan follower?"
Snowpaw nodded as he made eye contact with his new mentor. He was already up and out of his nest before he stepped out into the camp clearing. "I am ready," he responded with a determined glint in his eyes. This was his opportunity to show his family and the Moon God that he was worthy of becoming a Follower even at his young age. He will not fail any of his tasks. Looking to Cinderwraith, he asked, "So, where shall we begin?"

"I won't feel comfortable showing you around the territory until you have some basic skills in your retinue," she mewed, giving him an appraising look when he exited the den. "That being said, this is a partnership, not a dictatorship, and I'd like to know how you see this night going." She waved her tail at the just rising moon behind her. "We have all night, and I don't want this to be something you dread. If you like, we can get some basic training in at the Hollow, then go for a brief tour of the territory?"
He shrugged slightly. "Hmm, I suppose we can go to the Hollow for basic training before going on a tour. I've already seen a bit of the territory before, so I'm in no particular rush." So far, his mentor didn't seem to be pushy or strict on what training needed to be done, so that was a positive. One word did catch his attention though - partnership. He never knew that word could ot would be used in a Follower-Student mentorship. This could possibly be a beneficial experience.

"Then it's a plan," purred Cinderwraith with a faint grin. Motioning to the fresh-kill pile with her tail, she mewed, "Grab a piece of prey to eat at moonhigh. We'll break then, and move on to something else. I take it you've already broken your fast?" She waited to eat until their morning prayers, but always partook immediately afterwards, being one of the types of cats to wake up ravenous. Her pelt was fluffed up against the slight chill and she turned towards the camp exit, knowing her apprentice was more than capable of catching up on his own.
"I'd like to see if you can lead the way to the Training Hollow yourself using the scents of your denmates to guide you," she mewed when he caught up at the exit of camp. "Don't hesitate to ask for help or guidance. I believe you'll know what to do when you try it, but if you want a tip or pointer, just let me know." She stepped back behind him so as not to muddle his tracking, and watched quietly to see how he would do.
The young cat nodded and retrieved a mouse from the fresh-kill pile. He wasnt particularly hungry just yet so something small would do; he could hold off until moon high.
At the camp exit, he paused for a moment and glanced back at Cinderwraith. "Alright. Are we stopping anywhere else in before we reach the Hollow?" he asked before stepping off. He didn't think they were going anywhere else just yet but she could get things prepared for when they do end up going there eventually.

"Nope, straight to the Training Hollow," she mewed, wondering if he was the type to procrastinate or if he was simply one to be thorough in his tasks. Either way, she would have to learn how best to direct that energy. "I'll be behind you, so don't worry about any ambushes from badgers or anything. Not with Selene's grace and my training to protect you." She cracked a smile at that boast and shook her head ruefully.
"Alrighty then," he said and nodded once. "I'm not too worried about being too attacked by anything either." Looking out into the darkness, he started off into the forest. Pausing every ten minutes to taste the air and follow the scents from cats before. It wasn't that difficult of a mission to complete. The scent of cats grew stronger as the approached the Hollow. He glanced back to Cinderwraith. "We should be there soon. What's the next thing you want me to?"

"I'll actually do something for you, now," purred Cinderwraith as she seemed to materialize out of the shadows behind him. She was proud of her student's skill; he'd picked up the tracking easily. "I'm going to show you the proper form for hunting, then you can try and show me the same." She bounded ahead of him into the spongy softness of the Training Hollow, giggling slightly as the moss tickled her paws. "Like this."
She crouched down, keeping the majority of her weight on her hind paws so that she could pull back and run at any moment. Her body was long and low to the ground, her tail parallel to the forest floor. Her ears were tilted forwards, mouth slightly open to taste the air, and breathing little more than a slight rise and fall. After holding this position for a long moment, she stood back up and motioned for Snowpaw to try. "It isn't is hard position to master, but it's the muscles you must build in order to hold the stance that are difficult to gain. When hunting, you can't decide you've grown tired and stand up, after all. Let me see you in a hunting crouch for a moment, then we can move on to battle training." She glanced over at him and added, "I expect you to work on developing these muscles on your own time outside of our training sessions, okay?"
He observed the demonstration, taking in what Cinderwraith had shown him. Seems simple enough, he thought. "I think I get it," he meowed, stepping into the center. Imagining the same posture, he tried to replicate it. He crouched down and flattened himself to the ground, straightening his tail and shifted his weight to his hind legs as his mentor did. It was an awkward position for him. His legs began to burn after only being in the position for a moment. Letting out a frustrated growl, he straightened back up. He looked back to Cinderwraith for her criticism, a disappointed look on his face. "It wasn't good enough, was it?"

"Good form," she purred when he sank down into it, but was prevented from saying anything else when he rose and questioned his performance. "It was fine, Snowpaw. You mustn't be so hard on yourself. I warned you that your muscles would be unaccustomed to such a strain. That was plenty fine to start with. Try to hold it for a little longer every day, and in a few days we'll revisit it and see how you're doing."
She saw the disappointment in his eyes and hated it, not wanting any student of her's to feel like a failure. "Let's move on to battle training. That's what most students prefer, anyway," she mewed, walking a few paces from Snowpaw. "Battling is a necessary evil required to protect ourselves from those that would attack Selene's chosen, but it is not something you should revel in." With that severe warning out of the way, she began her lecture. "This first move is a rolling strike. What you'll do is duck when someone come at you from the front and roll to their side. Pop up, and rake your claws down their flank."
She displayed this attack, moving slowly and deliberately so that Snowpaw could watch every motion, and then did it once more, for good measure. "Now you give it a try," she mewed, straightening up. "Unless you have any questions?"
He nodded, acknowledging the criticism. She was right though, he was being hard on himself but it was the only thing he could do to make them see. He'd have to keep at it if he wanted to improve.
He took in the move, making sure to note how and when to recover and swipe. For some reason, this looked alot easier than the hunting position he miserably failed at. From watching his older siblings play fight, he had a love for fighting. Ever since then, he would practice what they would do on his own in his free time as a kit and this After she had finished, there was a slight glimmer in his eyes, the disappointment of before a distant memory. "For the sake of exercise, would you mind being my partner for this? I think it would be more effective if I had a physical opponent."
Snowpaw crouched down, shifting his weight to his back legs. With a determined glint in his eyes, he nodded once at his mentor. "Okay, I'm ready," he said. He bolted toward her. Anticipating an attack from her, he rolled onto the side of her and swiped a sheathed paw down her flank.
