Newleaf has arrived at last and it’s time to celebrate! Thistlestar and Ratstar have planned a peaceful picnic at the edge of the lake with fun activities and endless fresh kill to go around for everyone. The event is open to all ages, from the youngest of kits to the retired elders. This is the perfect opportunity to befriend new cats and build up alliances. All is well and fun until Swiftclan stumbles across the picnic and with the blessings of both Summerclan and Springclan leaders, join in on the fun bringing along fresh kill of their own.
Ratstar is hosting swimming lessons down by the lake, open for any kit, apprentice, or warrior that wants to learn!

“Alright, anybody who wants a swimming lesson, follow me down lakeside!”
With a hearty wave of his tail, Ratstar turned from the gathering and began padding towards the sprawling lake, the waves sparkling under the sun’s warm rays. The sky was a bright blue overhead, speckled with billowing and fluffy white clouds; the Summerclan leader smiled to himself as he looked up to watch a bird swoop freely across the endless space above them. Vibrant green grass gave way to flawless white sand as the group approached the water. The tabby tom padded right up to the water’s edge before turning around to face whatever cats had decided to follow him; a decent sized group, better than he was expecting. Two young warriors stepped forward to stand next to him, and Ratstar dipped his head to them both before addressing the small crowd.
“Now a lotta folks like to say that cats don’t belong in water, but I say that’s mousebrained nonsense. Water isn’t somethin’ that can be simply avoided; it’s a force of nature that can’t be stopped by nobody. Youse gotta learn to work with it, because that’s the only way you can survive. Now, to help me out today, I’ve got two assistants; former Waterclan folk who know a lot more than I do about dealin’ with water. This a Seasparkleflash of Summerclan – “he gestured to the ginger tabby tom beside him “- and his cousin Sliprabbit of Swiftclan.” A pretty grey tabby grinned a waved her tail, and Raststar nodded before looking back at the group.
“Now, any questions before we begin? Once I give word, you can come up to any of us, and we’ll teach ya the basics in small groups.”
Sweetiepeach stepped up, she was a new SwiftClan warrior, previously belonging to DayClan and previously belonging to Absum Lux and previously belonging to Primal Instinct. To say the least she traveled a lot and not particularly because she enjoyed the journey, but from being forced out of her home numerous times. She was tall with the sleek battled trained body of a combatant and the mysterious vibe of darkness. She had wild shadow black curls that looked molten hot like melted black honey and lunar white bengal legs that shined against her black fur. Her marigold orange and coppery centered eyes were friendly despite the unfriendly places she grew up in. "No questions," She said, her voice was young and pleasant on the year, yet full of aged confidence.
"Oh! Oh! Oh! I have a question, so what do I do if a fish tries to bite me?"
Windyhurricane was new to SummerClan, he had recently moved in to be with his mate Stormgazer and take care of the kits. For being a part of WinterClan though he had a very happy go lucky and even goofball nature about him. Nothing like the cold cruel cats most MountainClan warriors knew them to be. Windyhurricane was a grey tom with a light grey chest and underbelly and a mask of blue grey over his blazing blue eyes. His front legs were covered in mud the mud splatter nearly reaching up to his chest and he had all kinds of odd things tangled up in his fur from feathers and leaves to twigs and was that a birds nest? Given his thick WinterClan fur it was possible a skeleton could be found somewhere tangled up, hew as definitely long over due for a bath so learning how to swim would probably do him quite a few favors.
At first, Peachpaw was not excited about this picnic. She had thought it best if she were to stay home. But, of course, wouldn’t it be better if she were to actually get out and talk to others? Especially a new Clan. So she went. And when the offer for swimming lessons came up, she hesitated. Did she want to go to the lake? In the water once more? What if someone drowned? But it was swimming lessons, and those could be quite useful. She followed regardless, a few drops of anticipation swirling in her stomach. Otherwise, she was somewhat excited. She trailed behind the others, her cream fur bristling slightly.
“What if a wave comes?” She piped up, smelling the scent of the lake. It was different than that of the body of water behind the wall.
Opalpaw followed the crowd, though is quiet, reserved nature made it seem like he wasn't even there, sticking to the end of the group. He listened on curiously as the Summerclan leader spoke. He had never been much curious about the water prior to the picnic, but something about the learning a new skill, and one that uncommon in Springclan sparked his interest. He quietly strived to learn as much as he could as a newly appointed apprentice. Excitement grew as questions began to pop up around him from the other cats who decided to join in on the lesson. He could only imagine the pride he would bring to his mother, who stayed back at camp, if he came back with a new skill. And who knows, the new skill could be a great way to reel in more fresh kill for the clan.
Yarrowsong plopped right next to Opalpaw unexpectedly, making him jump in surprise. "Ooh I can't wait to learn how to swim!" The medium length white she-cat meowed excitingly, nudging the young apprentice playfully.
Seasparkleflash let out a good-natured chuckle at Windyhurricane's question. "If a fish bites you just try and shake it off. Fish don't have teeth, so they're not that strong." In honestly, the young tom was surprised when Ratstar chose him to be his assistant over his siblings, who were just as good if not better swimmers. He hoped that choice said something about the Summerclan leader's opinion of him, and was looking forward to fulfilling Ratstar's expectations. He glanced over to the she-cat beside him, who was also giggling.
"If you're going to shake off a fish though, make sure it lands on shore so we can eat it," Sliprabbit added in playfully, sicking her tongue out. Seasparkleflash rolled his eyes. The appearance and assistance of his little cousin was unexpected, but welcome. Took a lot of pressure off of his shoulders.
Ratstar glanced over at Peachpaw in surprise at her voice, a flash of solemn understanding passing over his face as his eye met hers. "While the good weather means any violent waves are unlikely, we'll be stickin' to the shallows for that reason." He tone became unusually serious as he gestured to the lake, where the shell-covered bottom was visible through the water for several feet outward. "That's also why I've recruited that Waterclan folk; I have full faith the pair of them can assist any cat having problems or an emergency." After he spoke, there was a moment of silence, with no other cat speaking up.
"Okay!" He chirped, his sunny disposition returning just as quickly as it had left. "Y'all can either join my group, Sliprabbit's group, or Seasparkleflash's group. Don't be shy!"
"Actually, some fish do have teeth" came a voice from behind the crowd. An all black cat with a glossy pelt and gray eyes approached them. "My name is Wildrain and I'm from Swiftclan for those of you who don't know me. I've been swimming all of my life and have caught many different fish. Lucky for you, most fish that have teeth won't penetrate your skin too much. It will feel like walking through a thorn patch. If one so happens to bite you, aim for the eyes. That will usually get them to release. Or, do what that little cat said and bring it to shore for good eating." She walked with confidence and grace, her composure calm and relaxed. "I'm here to assist you with the swimming lessons if you dont mind." She mewed to Ratstar, giving a polite dip of her head.
Peachpaw gave a nod, her eyes blinking rapidly as if she caught something in them. She swatted at her face. Knock it off, you look stupid. Though she knew from experience that repressing it only made it worse. Doesn't stop me from trying, she huffed to herself. She listened in on the conversation next to her, ears pricked in interest. "Fish have teeth?" She asked. "Are there fish that eat cats?" A vague thought crossed her mind that, if she were to find a leech, she should put it in one of her denmate's nests. Not out of malice, of course, but pure mischievous fun.

SUMMERCLAN Cherrypaw had tagged along, the she-cat had a slight fear of water but had wanted to challenge herself, and also Seasparkleflash was here. She'd been seen nodding along in the crowd when he spoke and seemed incredibly excited for him. To be asked by Ratstar to help with the lessons must be a big deal! But Peachpaw's question sobered her up, were there fish that ate cats? That sounded awful.
SWIFTCLAN "Maybe a catfish?" Demonicchicken piped up from his place with a couple of SwiftClan cats, "those might eat us? Never seen one myself but the name makes ya think, you know?" The large red tom was new to SwiftClan and to the clans in general, everyday he felt as though he learned something new. And today he'd decided he should tackle swimming. He could probably be that brave. Fuzzypeach, his friend, had refused the lessons on account of the weather, which was beautiful but okay.
"A ca-" The words got choked up in Windyhurricane's mouth as he burst out laughing insanely loud, "Wow," He said wiping a tear from the corner of his eye, "You are a riot, I'm Windyhurricane from SummerClan. But previously I was from WinterClan. Gosh, it is soinsane that cats can swim, back in WinterClan you would like, die if you even touched the cold waters. I cannot wait to tell them at the next gathering that cats can swim, it is going to blow their minds. Oh and letting them know that I'm alive, hopefully that'll be an even better surprise."
"Hi, I'm Sweetiepeach," Sweetiepeach introduced herself to Yarrowsong, "I'm from SwiftClan and since we were camping out at WaterClan's old territory I sort of figured this would be a good opportunity to learn." The she-cats voice was relaxing to listen to, gently paced and sweet as a love song.
Wildrain rolled her eyes. These cats knew next to nothing. "I've seen a catfish and no, they dont eat cats but they are good eatin' if your lucky enough to catch one! They can get really big but not big enough to swallow a cat. However, there are legendary fish that I heard of only in tales called Sharks. They swim in deep, salty waters and they can come to shallow waters but it's rare. They are massive fish and bigger than any fish you've ever seen! And they have more teeth than you can count! Those fish can eat a cat! But, like I said, I've never seen one and have only heard stories. I cant say whether they exist or not." Wildrain shrugged. "But dont fret. This is a lake. If the legends are true, there are no sharks here."
"The more the merrier?" Ratstar meowed, surprised and slightly impressed by Wildrain's knowledge of fish. Of course, the conversation was almost immediately derailed afterwards by the topic of cat-eating fish. The Summerclan leader himself had heard the stories of sharks in the twolegplace; from rogues who had traveled far beyond the sundrownplace. "She's right," he admitted. "There really ain't nothin' to be worried about in the lake here. So...with that out of the way, let's get started, shall we?"
Sliprabbit bounded up to Wildrain's side, playfully nudging the other Swiftclan she-cat with her shoulder. "Geez Wildrain, trying to steal my thunder are ya?" She teased her clanmate with a playful wink. "I never knew you knew how to swim! You should've told me; I totally would've invited you to join my sister and I for a dip in the river! Well now you can't hide from me any longer; you're gonna be my official teaching partner!" She waved her silver tail in the air excitedly. "So anyone who wants to be taught by totally awesome fishers can come over here by us!"
Seasparkleflash let out an amused snort at his cousin's antics, rolling his eyes with a fond smile before glancing around the search the crowd. His smile grew slightly when he spotted a familiar face watching him. "Hey Cherrypaw!" He called out to the cheerful apprentice he had befriended the moon previous, "You and your sister want to join my group?"
Wildrain felt warm under her fur when Ratstar said she was right. She flinched as Sliprabbit bounded up to stand beside her. The black she-cat wasnt looking to have a partner but she supposed there could be a worse partner than Sliprabbit. "Uh...okay" she mewed, raising a brow.

SUMMERCLAN
"Yes please!" Cherrypaw chirped, bouncing on her paws a bit and padding over to join him, "I guess it makes sense that you could swim, being former WaterClan and all!" She'd grown to like Seasparkleflash a great deal, and knowing he was the one teaching her to swim made her both nervous and excited, hopefully she proved to be a natural.
SWIFTCLAN Faith Demonicchicken shrugged, not caring much about this topic and unwilling to let being told he was wrong ruffle his metaphorical feathers. He did, however, return Windyhurricane's greeting, "great to meet ya. I'm... Dante," he meowed, using his former name, "I'm an ex-kittypet. New SwiftClan warrior. I'm sure you being alive is a fantastic surprise."
"Thank-you, I think so too!" Windyhurricane said to Demonicchicken with a tail wag before looking back at the instructor and walking over to the shoreline, "I am SO ready!" He said with a happy leap in the air and a loud boom as he hit the ground.
SPRINGCLAN Faith At Sweetiepeach's introduction, Yarrowsong's duo-colored gaze shifted immediately in the Swiftclan warrior's direction, bright with renewed energy. "It's nice to meet you Sweetiepeach!" Yarrowsong perked up cheerfully, her tail whisking around in content. Curiousity plauged the friendly Springclan warrior's expression as the Swiftclan she-cat spoke on "At Waterclan's old camp?" She echoed slowly "How has that been? Have you seen any ghosts since you guys started camping there?" She asked, now fully invested in investigating the idea of Waterclan ghosts more than swimming.
GidgetGal Opalpaw stepped away from Yarrowsong's side as soon as the conversation with Sweetiepeach started, uncomfortable by the idea of sitting on the sidelines of a talk that didn't include him. Besides, he had a goal in joining this group. His amber eyes gaze back towards the gathering site, catching the sight of his mentor, the Springclan Deputy. Being the apprentice to the newly appointed deputy, the young apprentice felt immense pressure to live up to the high expectations he had. It was an uncomfortable feeling, but he figured it was all part of growing up.
He stared at the different leaders who were to lead the swimming lessons with a look of deep contemplation. It would be easier, less intimidating to find himself working with one of the other warriors than the leader of Summerclan himself, but something in him urge him to work with Ratstar. It would certainly make his mentor proud to see him work directly with the leader, or so he would like to think. He stepped forward towards the Summerclan leader carefully, slowly gaining more courage as he stood at the lake's edge. "I'd like to go first, if that's all right?" He spoke up, his well-mannered temper was as clear as the day was, his amber gaze large and nervous as he stared up at the leader, careful not to stare too long at his missing eye.
Ratstar glanced over with a pleased expression as the first volunteer for his group spoke up. A smaller cat, looked to be about kit or apprentice age, as far as he could tell. The Summerclan hadn't been with the clans all too long, so it was still a bit difficult to gauge ages, especially for cats he didn't know. Luckily there were suffixes for that. "That's fine by me," he meowed evenly, dipping his head in greeting to the young Springclan tom. "What's your name, kid?"
Sliprabbit seemed completely oblivious to Wildrain's discomfort, instead turning to where a pair of toms were still conversing. "Hey, Demonicchicken! Do you and your new friend want to join our group?!" She gestured to Windyhurricane, taking note of the scent of Summerclan on him. "Swimming's pretty easy, I swear! And it's super fun!"
Seasparkleflash grinned brightly at Cherrypaw's eager reaction. She must be very excited to learn of to swim, he thought to himself. "Yeah," he replied, his eyes glimmering at the memories. "Me and my siblings were taught when we were just little kits." He then turned his attention to Yarrowsong and Sweetiepeach, talking by the bank. "Would you two like to join our group over here?" He offered with a polite dip of his head.

SWIFTCLAN GidgetGal @Faith Demonicchicken wished he could disappear when his name was spoken. The ground should have swallowed him. Why had he agreed to this name? Sure, around his new clan it didn't matter much. But to these new cats? Who would hear 'Demonicchicken' and think 'wow I found my new best friend!'? But he forced a cheerful tail wave and nodded, "sure, Sliprabbit, that sounds great. Windyhurricane, are okay with that?"
SUMMERCLAN The apprentice only slightly deflated as he extended an invitation to the other she-cats. But she reminded herself that he'd asked her first, and that was a good sign. Right?
"I see ghosts in every plain and destination, it was my dead end job back in Primal Instinct to interrogate the dead. In WaterClan I saw an apprentice with three legs, some kits wandering. They're known as mangled children, ones killed by a horribly abusive WaterClan mother. However I didn't get to see them for too long as SwiftClan has moved camps again, but you never know, we might return." She turned her attention to Seasparklefish and dipped her head to him, "Yes." Simplistic, peaceful moments such as these always felt off. In another reality she would be killing it as the youngest daughter of Vera E'tani helping her dominate peaceful clans like these, but this reality happening right now felt like the best one.
Windyhurricane's tail wagged back and forth with excitement, the whipping motion sending a cool spring breeze to anyone behind him as he nodded eagerly, "Of course!" He shouted a little too loud, "I cannot wait, it has been soooo hot since moving to SummerClan, I want to be a great swimmer so I can just stay in the water and cool off for as long as I want."
His fur seemed more like a detrimental weight where as most long furred cats were able to develop sleek lush fur that worked more as duck feathers easily gliding over water. But perhaps with time he would develop slick fur and less crushing weight due to all the debris in his pelt. He looked to his new friend and smiled at the mention of them being friends. He had never really had friends before, WinterClan didn't exactly believe in those. The best friend he had was his mentor growing up and his siblings so basically he had no friends outside of those that were forced to tolerate him. Hopefully in SummerClan he made new friends too, lately he had just been focusing on his family to make up for lost time, but since things were settling down it was probably time for him to explore more.
GidgetGal "Opalpaw of Springclan sir." Opalpaw spoke up, her voice stronger thanks to a new wave of courage that rushed through him as he made eye contact with the Summerclan leader. He returned the head dip with a deeper one, with intent to show blatant respect. If his mother say him, he knew she would be glowing with pride. "I've never tried to swim before."
Faith The Springclan warrior's eyes were wide as the she-cat's story, her naive self fully invested in awe at the story the Swiftclan warrior painted. Before she could get an exclamation in, Seasparkleflash interupted their covnersation with an invitation. Yarrowsong nodded feverishly, quiet still in shock. "You gotta tell me more about this later." She whispered as the two she-cat's made their way to the waters edge, awaiting the next intructions.
