Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
The mate choosing ceremony would be taking place in a couple of hours. And Bloodyrondo would be participating. He had been adamant about keeping his relationship a secret for the big reveal but, come on, everyone in the Clan - except Littlestar and Skipstep, only because they had just returned - knew about it. The Priest Promised was a gossip in his own right but Satinpaw was just as bad if not worse. At any rate, Bloodyrondo had commissioned Duskslayer to do his body paint, seeing as his friend was ridiculously good at it and he wanted to be looking his best.
"Alright, I need you to go all out, Dusky. I want gold and red and a little bit of passion pink. Some hearts, maybe some angel wings, definitely a sun on my forehead," He explained, grooming his shoulder for probably the tenth time, "No pressure but if it doesn't look good you'll basically ruin the entire ceremony."
Duskslayer eagerly nodded along, "I'm going to do a sunset, it's perfect, red, gold, and passion pinks, it's always like the Sun God leaving with a big epic finale of light and beauty. I'm going to go mix those paints together, in the mean time you can work on smoothing out your fur as much as possible. I also have a special remedy for your fur if you want to give it a fiery glimmer effect, it would last a whole week too."
Duskslayer moved over to where the paints were and began delicately stirring them in and adding glittery bits into certain ones. These weren't typical paints, he had refined them, aged some, added more ingredients in to give it more texture and color than the average ones a SunClan cat could find, "It's great that you and I found one someone at the romance festival, you did a great job with it. I'll give it a 90% good success rating," He added teasingly, "I'm only leaving out the 10% because I keep holding out hope that Glowstar will just settle down with my dad, but I guess they're just staying divorced for another year."
He gently nudged the paints over to Bloodyrondo, but kept them at a semi distance for now. It was nice to be able to rant about parents to someone and even better that Bloodyrondo knew what it was like to have an insane parent.
Little did Duskslayer know that Bloodyrondo had already tried smoothing down his fur. It really was a sore subject for him, you know, the fact that his pelt wasn't as soft and as pretty as Moonlitnocturne's was. He knew his fur well enough to apply beautiful body paint to it but Dusky would surely have to adapt a bit to make it work. He didn't say anything, though, and groomed it down as best he could while his friend mixed the paints. He was happy that Duskslayer changed the subject, not that he even knew that he had hit a sore spot for the Priest Promised.
"If you can make me look like the Sun God with that glitter-paint, I may just steal your girl's heart, too," He joked lightly. It really felt odd coming from a tom like Bloodyrondo who was usually so no-nonsese, but he was giddy, "Who are you chasing, Dusky? I didn't realize that you had found a mate. At any rate, it's probably best for your parents to stay apart... you know... with the whole Alliance thing being canceled. Besides, Glowstar is such a pushover, I'd bet one of her DayClan cats told her it wasn't cool to date outside of her Clan and she obliged."
That was really the only thing wrong with Duskslayer; his parents. Bloodyrondo typically ignored it but he couldn't do that with the other tom brought it up. It was mostly because he didn't like talking about his own problems with his dad. Thank the Sun God that he didn't hare to share a border with the League...
Duskslayer grinned at his friend and playfully jabbed his tail into the toms shoulder for his mischief, "Her names Unseenlights, we got setup on a blind date in the caves. We're not serious yet, but I hope to get to know her well. Don't tell anyone, but dating kind of freaks me out, I'm scared of messing up. And no, that's not it. Glowstar was with my Darkcomplex when SunClan was converting Day and Spring, but she realized her love made her weak. When she chose DayClan over him and my siblings she was able to sneak out and convince WinterClan and Renegade Regime to back up a rebellion. Darkcomplex makes her a better person, it scares her, that's why she stays away. But I think if she and my dad got back together that SunClan and DayClan would be in a better place."
He walked to the back and nosed over a larger cup, this one containing a white liquid, "I'm going to soak you with this, but it smells really good, it's coconut milk. Sean offered me some for free at the start of the romance festival so I finally took him up on the offer. It makes your coat look amazing and smooth. I'll apply it and let it soak in your fur if that's alright with you?"
He was hoping to change the subject. Bloodyrondo was not good at feelings and didn't want to say something to Duskslayer that could put their friendship at risk. Seriously, why did his mom have to be Glowstar, it literally could have been anyone else and that would have been fine!? As Duskslayer continued to open up, Bloodyrondo drew circles in the dust on the floor, trying to keep himself from saying something he'd regret. It was oddly mature for him but, aside from Nikko, he didn't have a closer buddy than Dusky. Thankfully none of this information was all that new to him expect for that bit about Unseenlights, and that he could work with, although he couldn't jump into that without responding to the first half of the conversation, "Yeah, maybe, you know your parents better than anyone..." he said with a nervous laugh, it as obvious he was trying to dodge the topic at this point, "So tell me more about Unseenlights. What's your favorite thing about her? Oh, and yeah, go ahead with the coconut oil, sounds marvelous."
"I like that she's modest, it's a rare trait in SunClan that I find pleasing," Duskslayer said, he could tell his friend was avoiding the subject and rolled his eyes playfully. Moving the coconut milk closer he took a pawful and smoothed the cold liquid down his fur making sure to massage it into his fur until it faded. There was a rhythm to his work, first smoothing Bloodyrondo's fur the wrong way and then four strokes in the right direction making sure to knead it in. "What it does is make your fur shimmery and youthful, but the oils will also help any new fur growing to come out naturally as gorgeous as this. If you like how it looks I can apply the treatment every moon to keep it consistent." He purred.
His paw glided up the back of Bloodyrondo's nape up to the back of is head, his paws gently kneading the coconut milk in. The massage was relaxing enough to make any cat want to move into his paws to feel the pleasurable touch of his paw pads more. But the smell was just as enchanting, it was tropical, if summer had one scent this would be it. "This might not be enjoyable for you, but if you want your entire fur to match the shimmer on your top coat you'll have to lie on your back soon, but I'll get your face and tail first."
(I wrote a whole reply for this and didn't post it... sigh I really need to stop doing that lol)
"Monthly treatments sound like a great idea, maybe I'll even make Satinpaw jealous," Bloodyrondo was purring pretty much the second Duskslayer started applying the coconut oil to his fur. It had such a strong and pleasant scent that seemed familiar but he couldn't quite pin down where he had come across it before. He learned into where Dusky was applying the oil and the answer suddenly came to him: Autumngossamer. Her fur and paint was always on point, despite the curse that the Sun God had placed upon her, and now Bloody had a pretty good idea why.
When his friend mentioned that he would need to roll over, Bloodyrondo obliged, stretching out as far as his legs could reach. Dusky hadn't done his face and tail yet, though, he was jumping the gun, "You sure know a lot about maintaining fur and body paint, I would have never guessed. If any other cats in the Clan knew this you'd probably have to do this full time. I can't wait to see how you dress yourself up for your girl. Better not be as good as mine!"
"I could never do my own fur as well as I do others, it's too difficult so no worries there," Duskslayer purred in amusement. He swept up some more coconut milk and continued massaging it into Bloodyrondo's pelt, "Besides I have only gone on one date with Lights, I wouldn't want to move up to the Mate Choosing Ceremony already. We have plenty of time for that. It's not that I don't believe in true love, but I do believe that love is an emotion just like happiness and just like anger. And like any emotion it can change and fade over time. A moon is too soon to know if we're compatible. I would not want to put such early commitments onto Light."
He moved to the toms tail, more careful and placing a bit more effort in to ensure he got all of it. He was about to move onto Bloodyrondo's face when Nikkohydrangea walked in, "Autumn is really mad that you weren't there to do her paint this morning," Nikkohydrangea said, eying at Duskslayer specifically, but didn't seem too attentive about Bloodyrondo being in the room. He instead walked over to Duskslayer in his typically bored expression and lied down on his back on the other side of Duskslayer.
"Me too," Nikkohydrangea purred, he was intentionally trying to act nicer to get in on whatever Duskslayer was using.
"Dragging your feet like that isn't going to get you anywhere, Dusky. If you feel something for just a moment you should chase after if as if you life depended on it. You can get over embarrassment a whole lot faster than you can get over regret," Bloodyrondo's voice wasn't extremely serious. This was a casual conversation for him and he was purring all the while. If you want it, take it. He was too impatient in nature to even fathom worrying about things like timing and future implications. The fact that Satinpaw was just an apprentice was just one of many such issues that he brushed aside.
He glanced over at the main entrance as he heard the pitter patter of Nikkohydrangea's paws. The ginger tom tensed up a bit when his friend entered the room. It was sort of an odd position to be found in, no? One tom massaging another. There was a reason, of course. He didn't know why that made him a little self-conscious but at least his fur remained smooth so Duskslayer's job could continue uninterrupted, "You only get a makeover like this if you are actually going to run, Nikko. This is high quality stuff only for special occasions." Well, Bloody didn't really know if that was a fact, but, since he'd never heard of it, he had assumed as much.
"It's different when you're an Eerie, my families mistakes pass over to their children. Curses, enemies, destinies, we inherit a lot of things that are deal breakers to most cats. I need Unseenlights to know that and maybe it's selfish of myself, but I want her to fall for me to the point she wouldn't be able to say no despite how bad the truth is of my family. Saying it out loud though that's incredibly selfish, maybe I should just be straight with her," Duskslayer said thoughtfully before finishing it up by carefully applying it to Bloodyrondo's face.
"I an running, I lost a boat race and I told Shadowbard that if I lost I would go out on a date with him," Nikkohydrangea said before batting at Duskslayer, "I lied down here hoping they were herbs I could get off on, but I was wrong so I'm just gonna lie here in my disappointment."
"You can lie there alone then," Duskslayer said before looking at Bloodyrondo, "Now you just need to lie out in the sun for a little while making sure it gets on your back and stomach and then I'll probably brush your fur out a bit before applying the paint."
"You know my parents really love each other, maybe you should ask them what their secret is," Nikkohydrangea said in the nicest offer he could manage.
"Yeah..." Duskslayer said, not really sure if he should tell Nikkohydrangea that his parents were clearly together for... Physical benefits and that Nikkohydrangea was likely just an accidental product of that love.
"Well, you've got me there," Bloodyrondo couldn't argue what he didn't know. The Eerie family was a mystery to him. The only two cats who could fill him in on that gossip were Duskslayer and Glowstar and he didn't like to pry either of them for information, "I consider us to be pretty good pals but you never read the warning label to me. But I digress... if being an Eerie is that big of a deal, then you probably really are better off being up front about it."
He was purring all the while he spoke to Duskslayer. Rubbing his jawline, the side of his head, his cheeks, that all hit the spot. It was literally heaven for any cat to be groomed in those places, and Dusky here was a professional. The Priest Promised's purr halted abruptly when Nikkohydrangea said he was running in the ceremony, though.
"What, you're running? Really?" His pale green eyes pet Nikko's blue and he looked... confused, "For... Shadowbard? Well, good luck, I guess..." He was on his feet now, following Duskslayer's instructions to move into a patch of sunlight, and changed the subject before he said something he'd regret. He had Satinpaw. That's right! Satinpaw, "I can't wait to be mates with Satinpaw. I know she's just an apprentice and all but it's true love! Isn't she so beautiful? I wish I had asked for you to do her fur too, Dusky, but there's only so many hours in the day and besides, she can't be too flashy or she'll get caught by someone who's not me."
"Lost a bet," Nikkohydrangea reminded him following after Bloodyrondo. His nose wrinkled at the subject of Satinpaw, "Satinpaw is an apprentice so you should wait. I'm not going to talk you out of it, but I know that having a mate at that age just isn't really fair. Having a boyfriend or girlfriend, sure, but something as serious as that? You're only an apprentice once, why not just enjoy her as what you have now and declare her your mate when she's matured?"
Duskslayer wasn't going to say anything on the subject, but having Nikkohydrangea bring on the morals of it made him ashamed to not have said anything sooner to Bloodyrondo. Bloody looked so happy, he didn't want to deflate his joy, but he was looking out for his friend more than Satinpaw's well being. No matter how much Bloodyrondo could say and prove that the relationship was equal, Bloodyrondo was in a power position, both in age and title. Satinpaw was too young not to follow along Bloodyrondo like a sheep, she needed her own identity first. He of course supported the couple, but not as a married couple. But he didn't want to gang up on Bloodyrondo either so he left the subject alone, Nikkohydrangea could handle it since hew as used to be knocked around.
"Well obviously we aren't going to do anything until she is old enough, if that's what you are trying to say," Bloodyrondo growled, caught off-guard by Nikkohydrangea's lack of support, "You just don't understand how deep our connection is. When we found each other in the tunnels, well, it was such a beautiful experience, absolutely fate. I've never felt anything like it before. It's indescribable."
He fluffed out his ginger fur proudly, even though he probably should not have, given that the coconut oil had not fully dried. Oh well. It still looked okay and he smoothed it down immediately afterwards. Bloodyrondo made a "hmpth" sound and purposefully turned his head away from Nikko now, putting his full attention on Duskslayer, "How long do you think it will take to dry, Dusky?"
"Maybe twenty minutes with your fur. If you had darker fur like me the sun would heat up your fur much faster," Duskslayer explained, although that wasn't entirely true. He had darker fur, but with the shock of white running along his fur it made him have a moderate temperature in SunClan.
"If you're not going to do anything than why not wait? This is supposed to be the best time to be a couple, when you're not officially permanent. It's when you still make romantic gestures, you're still nervous around each other, you have passionate moments you wish would go far, but don't leaving you begging for more. Why waste that time by hurrying into something?" Nikkohydrangea asked with just the slightest indication in his eyes that he was actually annoyed.
"Don't your parents passionately make out and stuff all the time?" Duskslayer asked. After all if someone was to be sour about love it should be him with his parents divorced and the ones he had having major issues since his dad gave him up without his moms permission.
"They love the game more than they'll ever love each other," Nikkohydrangea pointed out.
"I remember growing up I had a crush on my mentor," Duskslayer laughed a bit nervously.
"Ugh, Nikkohydrangea, we aren't going to do the tying of the knot ceremony like Littlestar and Skipstep did. Can you just let it go? You don't see me poking holes in the fact that you're going to become mates with a cat because you lost a bet on your first date. At least me and Satinpaw have gone on several dates." Bloodyrondo was always quick to call other cats out on what he perceived to be hypocrisy. It felt kind of weird turning it on Nikko like that, though, aside from when they first met they hadn't had very many fights. Seriously though, come on, the blue-gray tom was being really annoying and non-supportive.
"And thank you, Dusky." Bloodyrondo said as he started grooming his chest out of habit, which was a bad idea given it was covered in coconut oil. The Priest Promised made a face and promptly stopped with his tongue sticking out of his mouth. A very cute blep, to anyone watching. He then turned back to his beautician, "Who was your mentor? I can't recall."
"You could if you would like," Nikkohydrangea said, "In WinterClan everyone was so cold we barely had any kits. It's why they were so desperate that my mom who was a prisoner was their main source of kits. I didn't live in a loving environment and even with my own parents it was always more physical than anything romantic so I don't really have that lovey dovey culture that SunClan cats have experienced growing up," He pointed out.
"My mentor was Spellmania, one of Foxbane's granddaughters. It's ironic cause Strik actually mentored her and then she mentored me. She would let me play pretend and I'd play as Ashfields and we would go on these secret missions that were really training. She just made everything normal so much more fun. But that is a good point, in SunClan there's a bigger focus on settling down with a mate and having kits. Two of my siblings already have mates and kits. But you have plenty of time if you want to wait, Nikko, you're a bit younger than Bloody and I."
"What he said!" Bloodyrondo agreed with a swish of his tail. Duskslayer had put the other tom in his place so nicely, it was hard to be mad at him. The ginger Priest Promised was envious of that trait, it seemed that, even we he was trying to be nice, he tended to rub other cats the wrong way. It was probably because he was so handsome and intimidating. Still, as much as he knew now was a good time to end this argument, he couldn't help but go in for the last word, "Besides, that's no excuse for their behavior now, we have no shortage of kits among the Sun God's chosen and they are still all over each other. You should see the kind of stuff they are teaching Jetpaw! Anyway... to get back on subject... Dusky, I don't think I've ever spoken with Spellmania, she tends to keep a low profile. She's a little black cat, right? We'll have to go on a patrol with her sometime. I'll even let Nikko come with us if he quits being such a stick in the mud."
Nikkohydrangea let out a yawn, his paw uncomfortably rubbing up against the other paw with a sheepish expression, "I'll knock it off," He promised, not particularly happy backing down, but he didn't want to lose out on hanging out with them because he was being a stick in the mud.
"She's a little- okay extraordinarily hyper, so fair warning there if you want to do a patrol with her," Duskslayer warned before gently tapping at Bloodyrondo to roll over, "You two can get going in a moment though.
Bloodyrondo would take any victory he could get but he still felt a little guilty for how downtrodden Nikkohydrangea sounded. Oh well, best thing to do now was to continue to skirt the topic so he didn't have time to feel bad about it. He pretty much gave Nikko the cold shoulder and continued his conversation with Duskslayer, "I'm sure I can handle her."
He rolled over at the tap and began purring. That's right - today he was going to become mates with the girl of his dreams! Not even a grump like Nikko could damper his mood right now, "So, Dusky, you think you are ready to get started now?"
