Littlestar had just returned after her journey of harmony with Skipstep the night before. Tonight the romance festival would be wrapped up with the Mate Choosing Ceremony. She had been away for most of it, so she was excited to see the interesting pairings that would be had over the course of the past moon
The sun had just begun to rise as the cats of the clan gathered in the ceremony springs, Littlestar and Skipstep standing high above the rest of the clan with their tails intertwined "The time has come for SunClan's first mate choosing ceremony" her voice rang out over the waiting crowd, cheers erupting for the much anticipated event
"When I give the command, she-cats who wish to participate will be released to make their run back to camp. They will get a five minute head start. Toms will then be allowed to chase after the she-cat they desire. If you wish for her to be your mate, first you must capture and pin her. If she accepts you, then she will place her nose against yours. If not, then you must release her immediatly. But before we begin, I have an imporant announcemnet to make"
"It is time to reveal this years cupid. The Sun God chooses the most deserving of the title to wear they symbol of two swans with intertwining necks on their pelt. They will keep the title until next years romance festival and will be given a two minute head start in the mate choosing ceremony... This years cupid iss....." silence fell over the crowd in anticipation
Satinpaw sat among the gathered cats, as she watched her mother make the announcements. Though she hadn't been allowed to participate in many of her clans traditions yet, she still looked forward to them with as much excitement and enthusiasm as any other SunClan warrior. This was an exciting day for the clan after all so her own excitement for the days events wouldn't raise any suspicions. She was careful, not to look at any cat in particular even as she stood, and while the other cats were cheering for Moonlitnocturne she began to stretch, and even yawned while doing so to sell her innocence.
"If you stand over there you'll be able to take off with the rest of the she-cats. You do want to run, right?" Discordantpaw was at Satinpaw's side, her purple eyes glinting with mischief, a smile that was almost a smirk gracing her face. It hadn't been her intention to set Satinpaw up with her half-brother when she abandoned her in the maze but she thought the pairing was just perfect. Both cats were as good looking as they were insufferable. --- Bloodyrondo was standing with all the rest of the toms and decorated with some truly impressive body paint. He always looked like a million bucks but today he was in the billions. Golds, pinks, reds, intricate, swirly designs, hearts, wings, the full nine yards. It was basically borderline mardi gras but in different colors and with less glitter. Clearly he had a she-cat in mind but he was doing everything he could to avoid looking for her ahead of time. Bloodyrondo was going to do this right. "Who are you trying to court?" He asked the tom next to him, although he didn't care for the answer, he was just trying to make small talk. He was so excited that he didn't even realized that his estranged brother had earned the title of Cupid. --- Roble watched from the back of the crowd. No one had bothered to explain to him what was going on but to be fair he didn't really care anyway. He combed the crowd for Tinypaw but did not see her so he just settled with drawing pictures in the sand until something more exciting happened.

Tinypaw
SunClan Apprentice
The Underestimated
Tinypaw sat at the far edge of the crowd, nearly invisible except for those closest to her. Large bushes stood on either side of her, shading her from the view of most of the clan. For those that did manage to land their eyes upon her, would be able to tell that she would have rather been any where else. Her ears were folded back against her head, staring down at her paws. Had her mother not literally dragged her to the ceremony, she would have still been back at camp curled up in her nest. In the past moon she had made herself scarce, only returning to camp to sleep. She hadn't been the same since that day Foxbane had dragged Oakstorm back to camp and forced him into initiation. She hardly ate, skipped out on patrols, and had become distant and withdrawn. Even the announcement of this year's cupid did little to lighten her mood

Moonlitnocturne hadn't really been paying attention. Even with everything that had happened, he had little interest in actually chasing someone down. Especially Jetclaw. His ears perked at his name and he snapped out of his stupor. As all eyes landed on him, he felt his pelt flush with an embarrassed warmth. Cheers began to pour into his ears, and the congratulations thrown his way made it clear he won something... wait, was it cupid? Was he actually the cupid of this clan he hated. Ah... Ah? A part of him wanted to laugh, like he went along with the sick joke he knew it was. Or to smack Bloodyrondo, just to get on his nerves even more. The smile on his face was crooked, but he did his part in thanking everyone that congratulated him.
~~
"No one in particular." Burningpaw answered Bloodyrondo. The orange tom was large enough to be considered a warrior, even if his suffix continued to elude him. Really, all the festival had done was make him less sure what he wanted to do.

The Peace Keeper
Spotting Moonlitnocturne, Littlestar lept down to his side. He claws had already been dipped into paint, as she carefully drew the cupid symbol onto his shoulder. The two swans, with their graceful necks intertwined forming a heart. She had been just as surprised to find out the he had won the title, but the Sun God had spoken.strawberrycupid

Unseenlight shyly made her way to where the she-cats were gathering to start the run back to camp. During the romance festival, she had found herself falling for a certain tom... She hadn't run into him in the crowd, her heart fluttering wondering if he would give chase to claim her as his. Her eerie blue eyes stared sightless at the gathered crowd, wondering if Duskslayer was watching. Faith

Spotting Roble near the edge of the crowd, Honeysplash puffed out his cheeks making his way over "Your not allowed to be here" he stated, placing himself between the tom and the rest of the clan. "Initiates are not allowed in the ceremony springs, get lost or I'll have to remove you myself" Jadie

Lovesmitten

Lovesmitten moved over to his mate and wrapped his tail around hers "are you going to run?" he winked playfully, dropping into a play bow his behind wiggling in the air "You are mine, but we never made it official. Are you going to make me chase you this time?" despite him self, he felt like an over eager young apprentice. The revelation that Autumngossamer was indeed pregnant had given an almost boundless amount of energy and enthusiasm.
Satinpaw's ear twitched indicating that she had heard Discordantpaw speak. She wasn't the biggest fan of the she-cat considering that she literally let her to die in the tunnels but, if it hadn't of been for her she would of never had her moment with Bloodyrondo. For that she supposed she should be grateful but she was far from thanking the she-cat. Without a word she slipped closer to the crowd of she-cat's that were getting ready to run. The fluffy cat took care to ensure that her mother couldn't see her, or if she did, she would think she was just wishing good luck to her clan-mates.
Autumngossamer smiled at him politely, "I really would if I wasn't pregnant, my skin feels like it's crawling every moment. I just want to gut myself open- I won't go into more detail," She said with a calm breath. Truthfully, she hadn't felt her kits kick or anything, but it took everything in her to force herself not to think about how she was pregnant. But everyone was too nice constantly congratulating her and asking her about how her pregnancy was going and telling their own stories. Every moment she was tempted to move to DayClan for the rest of pregnancy, at least there everyone hated her and wouldn't talk to her. She wondered if she had actually told Lovesmitten to not take her words to heart for the next four moons or have she just glared at him and said nothing and imagined that conversation. Wow was it hard not to want to tear her cheek open with her claw, it was like she needed fresh air and feeling against it with her face wasn't enough. She had absolute certainty at this point that any pain she would experience was the anxiety multiplying it by a million. Some part of her mind, what was it called, sanity, yeah the sanity part of her mind was whispering to her to be supportive and to not state her worries out loud. It was a good thing she left the conversation and just said she would participate if she wasn't pregnant. Oh no wait. Or did she say the rest of that out loud? Why couldn't she just be induced into a coma!?
She looked back at Lovesmitten trying to gauge if she said anything unnerivng out loud, but the thought of being pregnant kept creeping back into her mind every time she looked at him, "I'm..." She kept trying to think of some sort of escape, maybe go to some other witch doctor, or claw her face open just so she wouldn't go into an anxiety attack and kill her kits. Something to get her mind off of this hell that she was only going through for Lovesmitten, "GOING TO SEE WINDCHASER! It is so important and I just realized that like, I'm running out of time to see her," She scratched eagerly at the side of her face before stopping herself when she realized she was doing it, "But..." She wanted to give Lovesmitten some bright side to let him know that they were cool, but also didn't want to lie to him, "I love you lovey dovey." She tried to wink, but ended up blinking. This was going disastrously... Just walk away, "Okay bye now!"
Autumngossamer's heart was racing with the anger she felt towards herself. She hated this side of herself that couldn't get herself under control to just let Lovesmitten be happy. He just wanted to love her and be together and take care of her and raise a family, like why was this so hard? She slumped against the side of a tree remembering what Shootingcomet had told her. Be someone who can do what you need to do. She took a breath, fueling her energy, held it, concentrating as energy formed into fire and breathed out burning Heatherpaw away leaving only Autumngossamer standing. She stood up taller and continued on her way.
Discordantpaw watched Satinpaw slink away into the rest of the crowd of she-cats. She shrugged and followed after her but went to a different edge of the group when she lost track of the other apprentice in a fur of creamy white coats. She would participate but had no intention of being caught. --- "Well, I wish you luck." Bloodyrondo replied to Burningpaw rather half-heartedly. It was weird to think that any cat would participate in this tradition without a certain special someone in mind. He was so hung up on that idea that he didn't even realize he was talking with Burningpaw, an apprentice, who had no business to be standing next to him at all, "The Sun God will lead you to your special someone when the time is right." --- "Umm, nice to see you too, Honeysplash." Roble was caught a little bit off guard by Honeysplash's sudden chastising. This tom was usually one of the more friendly SunClan cats (not that any of them seemed to treat him half as good as the Sun God himself did). Roble knew that this flame point tom in particular was the father of several litters of kittens. Given that it was clear Honeysplash like the ladies, he figured that tom would be standing up next to Bloodyrondo, eager to give chase. His next reply was nonplussed and casual but the tom's tone was a little sharper than normal, "You sure you want to waste time dragging me away and miss your chance to participate yourself? Looks like Littlestar is just about to loose the hounds."

Even though she spoke kind words, Lovesmitten knew her well enough by now to feel the undertones. He had hoped that this would ceremony would be enough to distract her, to make her forget even for a few moments about her current situation. His heart sank as she turned to leave him, still stuck in his play bow staring after her with a lost expression. Why couldn't Autumngossamer see herself the way that he saw her? She was absolutely stunning, kind-hearted, with a touch of sass. Every word she spoke took his breathe away, every movement made his heart flutter.
He slowly straightened himself onto all fours, his paws itching to chase after her. His tail slowly fell towards the grounds, his ears folding back "come back...." he whispered under his breath, but she to far to hear the words even if he had screamed them
Honeysplash's tail lash, Roble's comment obviously hitting a nerve "Nah, dating is one thing. Choosing a mate is quite another. Seriously though, you need to get out of here before the Janus see you" he glanced over his shoulder at the crowd "Initiates are not allowed into the ceremony springs until initiation, if they find you here they will do a lot worse than me". Honeysplash had spent nearly the entire moon being lectured. Between all the she-cats he had been with, and the annoying little furballs that called him dad he hadn't had a moments peace in moons. Even now, many of the she-cats that he had been with were lined up in the hopes that he would choose one of them and settle down Jadie "

Jetpaw
SunClan Apprentice
The Sweet
Jetpaw giggled, as she watched her sister try to slip in and hide amoung all the much larger warrior she-cats so that she could join in. She hadn't realized that her sister had been so into Bloodyrondo, but seeing him all painted up and groomed it wasn't hard to guess their intentions She must be planning on making their relationship official during the ceremony!!! "Bloody and Satin sitting in a tree" she sang loudly, having no idea that their relationship was meant to be a secret. After all they were going to make a super cute couple! "K.I.S.S.I.N........."
Silverpaw slipped into the crowd beside of Satinpaw, crouching down in order to not draw attention to herself "Don't think I'm letting you do this alone" she grinned, playfully placing a paw on her sister's shoulder "If you are gonna run, so am I"
The clearing was mostly quiet given how many cats were present. Everyone was waiting for Littlestar to release the participants, after all, so most talking was little more than whispered phrases at this point. That is, until Jetpaw started singing. Bloodyrondo could hear her voice cary well enough for most cats to hear. It was easy to tell she was singing although perhaps not so obvious what she was singing. Regardless, it came to his eardrums clear as if she had spoken it to him directly, and his fur bristled. The Priest Promised shot Jetpaw a seething glare, "Cut it out, Jetpaw!" His cheeks were aflame in embarrassment but luckily his red fur hid it perfectly. --- "Choosing a mate? So that's what is happening here?" Roble had assumed quite a bit about what was going on but it seemed his original idea wasn't all that far off. He hadn't had any desire to participate before but now he couldn't deny his paws were tingling to jump in and find Tinypaw. The large brown and white tom had been sitting but was not on all four paws and he looked down at Honeysplash with a passive expression, "How does it work exactly?"

"It's really stupid if you ask me" he shook his head "Come on, lets get out of here and Ill tell you about it" his tail lightly touching the other cat's shoulder to lead him out of the camp "The she-cats all run back to camp while the toms chase em." he didn't want to give to many details since he was an initate, but it wasn't like this paticular ceremony was all that secret "The guys chase the gals they have their eye on and try to catch them. If they manage to pin them and the girl wants to become his mate then the touch noses. How sappy is that?"

"No WAY lover boy" she teased gently "Don't worry I think it's cute that you like my sister!!!" a warm purr rumbled in her throat "Your are going to have beautiful babies!" she giggled "GO GET HER!" she yelled out over the crowd, heads turning to look at them obvious that she wasn't just going to drop this, if he wanted her to be quiet he was going to have to make her "BLOODY AND SSSS....."
"Okay, sounds great." Roble had seemed resistant at first but was back to his usual friendly self. He stretched his limbs just like how many of the cats planning to race were also doing then glanced back at Honeysplash, "We better hurry up if we want to get there before the rest of the Clan does. I really don't want to get caught by those pesky Janus's, haha." It was a great plan. While they technically weren't able to participate since he was an initiate and she was an apprentice, Tinypaw was still here somewhere and would have to get back to camp same as anyone else. All he had to do was get to camp first and pin her down on her way back. It wouldn't mean anything officially but he had been very lovelorn lately. She'd locked him out ever since he began the process of Initiation and Roble was determined to find the key. ---
"Ugh Nikkohydrangea can you PLEASE go do something about Jetpaw?!" Bloodyrondo asked, nudging his blue-gray friend that never seemed all that far away from him. His ears were pinned back now and his eyes were on Littlestar. He really did not want her to hear. Their families were joining together and he wanted the reveal to be a wonderful surprise not some stupid child's song, "I'll do anything if you can just shut her up until the race starts."

"You're running, Tinypaw, in secret of course." Foxbane ordered without a moment's hesitation. "If you don't, I already have someone who looks like you to run in your place. By the time Roble realizes, he'll be engaged to her." Her voice was soft and low as she looked over at the crowd, just loud enough for her daughter to hear, but not for them to be overheard. The former Priestess, despite having clearly heard Littlestar's orders conveniently chose to ignore them, knowing that she could get in rather huge trouble as a result of it. Oh well. She already had an innumerable amount of cats, plus the Sun God, who wanted her dead or were actively trying to kill her, what was her adopted daughter's wrath on top of it?

"Mom..." she growled eyes glancing out over the she-cats that were running "Didn't you hear Littlestar? Apprentices and initiates are not allowed to participate" she looked down at her paws, besides Roble wasn't even here. Initiates were not allowed in the ceremony springs, much less to participate in a ceremony other than their initiation . She didn't want to be any where near foxbane or Roble in that moment as she rose to her paws "I'm going home..." Honeystorm
Divinepaw sat on the edge, watching the other's participate. She was nervous, really nervous. Anxiety tugged at her belly and made her feel sick. The tom she really wanted to chase her was Bloodyrondo but she knew she wasn't allowed to participate. What she was really worried about was that he was going to chase someone...and it wasn't going to be her. She shifted her wait when Littlestar began the event, her heart leaping. Who was he going to run after?
"Oh hey, look at that, it's your conscience in cat form. Figures you would want me to get rid of your conscience, it is really loud and obnoxious though. But makes sense since it came from you," Nikkohydrangea said with a small smug grin on his lips, but kept his voice low too. He didn't understand why Bloodyrondo couldn't just out race her, after all she was an apprentice, she wasn't participating like them. He looked at Jetpaw, "You actually have a crush, I heard it from Discordantpaw, but Discordantpaw likes him. But the guy told Discordantpaw to tell you that he likes you, but because Discordantpaw likes him she's not going to tell you so that way the guy thinks you're not interested and will fall in love with her. But I can tell you I guess," Nikkohydrangea said carelessly to Discordantpaw. It would be more interesting if Jetpaw said yes, but hey, plan B was to tackle Bloodyrondo down so if Littlestar overheard this conversation his move would avoid her suspicion and that was fun too. Win win.

Discordantpaw took off into the territory and quickly disappeared into the shadows. She mostly wanted to watch the pairings take place but was a little hopefully that someone might follow her. She hoped that Foxbane hadn't seen her breaking the rules but she wasn't so sure her mother would care if she explained that she was just running not actually participating in the mate choosing ceremony. --- Bloodyrondo shifted from paw to paw as he watched the she-cat take off. He spotted Satinpaw's snowy white pelt for just a second before she disappeared behind some brush. He was so excited that he had pretty much tuned out Jetpaw's chanting at this point. It was little more than buzzing in her ears when compared to his racing heart.
Satinpaw's claws tore at the ground underneath her, she was nervous, no terrified was more like it. The forbidden feeling of what she was about to do was suffocating and intoxicating all at once. Her heart pounded in her chest like a drum that echoed in her ears. Yet her paws still tingled with excitement. She grin, turning to meet the priest promised's gaze for the first time that day. In the brief moment that their eyes met any doubt she had cleared from her mind replaced by determination.
As soon as Littlestar gave the signal the apprentice bolted. There was no time for hesitation, she couldn't risk being stopped by her mother or any other warrior. She had to keep a good pace, she wanted to star far enough ahead that she couldn't be stopped but also wanted Bloodyrondo to be able to catch her. She stayed in clear view of her mother and the other spectators as she ran.
