The sun blazed high over the rocky terraces of the camp, burning away the morning's crisp frost and heating up the dry leaf-bare air with efficiency. Sanguinerose padded out of the nursery, her yellow paint smeared with the kits' red to create a very sloppy orange. She had been tussling with the kits while their mother got some sleep and hadn't had time to clean up her markings just yet. Still, seeing the color of kits on her pelt made her heart flutter. Soon, her own kits would come into the world, under the light of the Sun if she were blessed.
Looking towards the fresh-kill pile, she set out to grab something to eat, lunch having long since passed. Her stomach hadn't forgotten like her mind did, and rumbled angrily. She kept forgetting she was eating for a whole family now, not just herself.
