Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
“Well, just know that the WinterClan cats can’t fly, and they’re not giants either,” Lemonspeckle told his son, speaking from experience. He didn’t add that Blackberrypaw, himself, was part WinterClan. The young tom didn’t know, nor would he ever. “Just try to get some sleep, I’m sure you’ll have a full day of training tomorrow,” the deputy licked his son on the forehead and turned to head back out to his post, completely unaware that the apprentices had slipped through.
With his father’s back turned as he began to settle, Blackberrypaw slid effortlessly through the small space, as quiet as a snake, and darted into the darkness, his smoky gray pelt blending in with the shadows of the deep lands. He caught up to the others, a grin plastered on his face.
“Good job!” Peachpaw bounces beside her brother, a grin just as wide on her face. She turned her attention to Speckledpaw. “Well, we will worry about that later.” She waved him off, once again taking the lead. “Wait—Blackberrypaw which way did you say was the loud noise?” She stopped suddenly, landing in beside her brother.
Although there seemed to be a back and forth with the leadership between the two siblings, Blackberrypaw wasn’t trying at all to take the lead — it had been his idea, after all, but he didn’t mind his sister butting in here and there. He touched her shoulder with the tip of his tail, nodding vigorously as she told Speckledpaw that it would have to wait. “Near the southern border,” he said, his ears pricked, as if listening for the crashing sound again. But all was quiet. Luckily, they weren’t far from the border, as the deep lands came close to the stone wall. “Let’s go!” He jumped back to his paws and bolted into the forest, heading for where he had heard the noise.
Speckledpaw pinned his ears back and wrinkled his nose at Peachpaw's bossiness and the way she waved him off. He was about to fire a retort at her when he saw Blackberrypaw lay his tail on her shoulder. He decided to let it roll off his shoulders and Blackberrypaw's excited meow brought his own excitements back. The calico tom bolted after Blackberrypaw, anticipation on what they might find clawed at him.

"How far is it?" Skypaw asked as he trotted near the back of the impromptu patrol. He knew they should be back in camp before the morning patrols would be assigned. There'd be a better chance they wouldn't get caught if they could get back before then. He knew the risks of this little adventure but he was still willing to take the chance. It would be worth it even if he got stuck cleaning out the elders den for a moon.
Poppypaw was really feeling old while she listened to the other apprentices. She wiped some sleep from her eyes and couldn't help but yawn. She found herself at the rear of the patrol, but she was still keeping up pretty well, her half-tail swishing from side to side as if often did.
“We’ll be back before the dawn patrol is even thinking about getting out of their nests,” Blackberrypaw called back to Skypaw, confidence radiating in his voice as he led his clan mates through the deep lands and toward the southern border. As they grew nearer to the edge of the tree line, the dark gray tom slowed down until he completely stopped. “Do you guys feel that?” He looked back at his young patrol.
A rough wind was billowing through the trees. It smelled of salt, heavy on the air. It was something that Blackberrypaw had never experienced. He motioned for the rest of the group to get down. Slowly, he slid across the ground, his belly brushing the floor. As they reached the edge of the deep lands, Blackberrypaw looked out to where the stone wall should have been. Where it should have always been. It lay in a long line of crumbled stone, and beyond it was dark and roaring.
“What?...” Blackberrypaw’s fur stood on end his heart began to race.
Speckledpaw's long fur danced in the stiff wind as he crouched and followed Blackberrypaw. He halted beside the apprentice and looked out to where the wall should have been. "What happened to the wall?" Speckledpaw asked, a hint of panic in his voice. He shrank down when his eyes were met with the dark and roaring background. He could hear waves crashing against the shore and he wasnt entirely sure what the sound he was hearing was. "What is that sound?" He asked, beginning to feel vulnerable. He didn't have much training and that crashing sound could be the sound of some kind of beast.

In all his travels as a loner, Skypaw had never gone this far south. His family had ranged west of FallClan for the most part. And now this was farther he had gone since he'd come to SummerClan. He leaped up on the rocks of the crumbled wall not knowing it ever had been a wall in the first place and looked out toward the unknown sea. Seeing but not really understanding what he was seeing, he meowed, "It looks like a really big meadow, I mean really, really big, and the wind is rippling the tall grasses." Because of the very dim light that was what his mind conceived the ocean to be.

Poppypaw crept over to the broken wall with a frown. All of the ivy and lichen that used to grow on it was crumpled and dead now, buried in the rubble. She opened her mouth and tasted the air only to be assaulted by the scent of salt and sand. She looked ahead at the dark field in front of her but all she could determine was that it stretched further than her eyes could see, well past the horizon. She gulped and took a couple steps back, "I don't think we should be here... Whatever broke down the wall could still be around, and who knows how dangerous that roaring field is."
Blackberrypaw pulled himself up on the top of the rubble, his heart fell as he thought that such a landmark was gone in their clan. Still, as he looked out over the dark field, smelling the salt on the air, he grew curious. The more he listened, the more familiar the sound became. “I don’t think it’s a monster,” he murmured, his ears pricked high on his head. “It sounds almost like... like water?” He glanced at the others, wondering if they could hear it, too.
Peachpaw pushed her way to the front, tail twitching in nervous excitement. Though she hid it, she was just as confused as the rest. What could have broken down the wall? Why? “Maybe it was a big bear! Or—or a fox the size of the mountains!” She sniffed the ground firstly, the scent of salt hitting her strong. It was unusual. She nudged Poppypaw playfully. “Oh come on, don’t be a fraidy-mouse.” She stopped at the ruins of the wall, hesitant to step to the other side. Blackberrypaw was right—it did sound like water.
“Water—water—water!” Her head jerked. She scowled at herself. “I want to find out, let’s go.”
“It can’t be too dangerous,” Blackberrypaw mused, “all I can smell is the water and salt,” he breathed in the air. “Maybe it’s like the lake at the north of the border.” Slowly, the dark tom slipped down the rubble, and as he reached the bottom, his paws sank down into cold sand. It shifted over his paws and covered them. Tentatively, he moved forward, his gait awkward over sand as it moved up and down beneath his paws. He looked back at the others, “I think it’s okay!” He called back. The wind twisting off the water was cold, spraying the apprentice and chilling him to his bones.
Speckledpaw wasnt sure about this but he figured it was worth checking out. Perhaps it was the lake! Just then, he realized he was thirsty. If that's water, maybe he could get a drink. He made his way down to the sand after Blackberrypaw had said it was safe. He made the finally leap onto the sand and sank down into it. It felt strange on his paws as it squished between his toes. "This is weird!" He lifted one paw to see a paw print had been made in the sand. "This isnt like the usual ground in Summerclan" Speckledpaw declared, obviously. He cautiously made his way to the water. "Guys! This is water!" The waves lapped at the shore and one big one reached Speckledpaw's paw and soaked it. The young tom squealed in surprise as the cold water touched his paw. However, he didn't let it stop him. He wanted a drink. He got closer and began to lap up the water. Suddenly, the salty taste hit him and he withdrew with a face of total and utter disgust. "Oh my gosh! Yuck!!" He backed away from the water, his tongue sticking out. "Dont drink it!"
Turtlepaw crept over the broken twoleg wall carefullyblinking owlishly at the water. He watched the waves warily. They were nothing like the smaller waves that lapped at the shore of the lake up north.
"Has this wall hidden this place the whole time?" Turtlepaw asked.
Peachpaw rushes forward, relishing in the feeling of sand between her toes. It was cold, cold as the wind, but she pretended not to care. “This is so cool!” She squealed, dragging her paw through the tiny waves. She laughed at Speckledpaw playfully.
“I can’t believe nobody ever noticed this. It seems so obvious, now.” She backed up a little, shivers running through her body. Certainly was cold! “Think of all the fun we can, though.”

Skypaw walked close to the water's edge and looked out into its vastness. While he was staring a wave came in and swept him off his feet. "HELP!" he called out as he was drug out into the water. Another wave came in and tossed him back onto the shore. He rolled head over tail from the force of the wave. When he finally righted himself he scrambled away from the water's edge and slumped down into the sand. "That was awful!" he hissed. "And Speckedpaw's right. It tastes bad and burns my nose and eyes." Then another thought struck him and horrified him. "Do you think it's poison?"
Speckledpaw stared in horror as Skypaw was pulled into the water but relaxed when he was able to get out. "Are you alright?" He asked Skypaw, his eyes full of concern. Then, Skypaw's comment made his heart sink. Was it really poison?
Poppypaw flinched at Peachpaw's touch but leaned into it a bit once she realized it was her clanmate, "Peachpaw, I'm just being a little cautious is all. I think it will be a lot safer to explore it when the sun is out and we can see what's coming at us a lot more clearly."
This was strange. Poppypaw wasn't the type of cat to hesitate or even be nervous. She always ran right up to where she wanted to go without a care in the world. The scar on her should throbbed a bit and reminded her that sometimes that wasn't such a good idea. Had she actually matured without realizing it? Were the antics of the young apprentices, mischief that she used to love, now... risky?! Was she becoming a boring old adult? Just then she heard Skypaw's call for help and her fur rose up on end.
The flame-point she-cat held her breath and bounded out to the water's edge with the rest of the apprentices but totally lost her footing in the sand and wiped out. Thankfully, the situation seemed to resolve itself, and it also seemed like no one saw her stumble. She got back to her paws but was covered in sand, "Did the water just grab you???"
