anyone up for an adventure where the kits try to summon their "ghost" mother?
It had only been an hour since the idea was first brought up. It sounded pretty easy. All they had to do was sneak out of camp, gather some pine needles, and then arrange them into a circle in a specific place in the territory, then finally speak some gibberish to summon Empress, their wraith of a mother. Simple enough. The hardest part was probably sneaking out of camp, and that was already accomplished. Now, the four kits were left to scour the frozen ground in search of any stray pine needles. This was definitely the most time consuming part, and they were lucky that this idea had been brought up as the first rays of light looked down upon the camp. They still had all day to do this, or maybe even longer if they decided to return early and come back the next day. All that Legendarykit knew was that he desperately wanted to talk to Empress again.
The anticipation of everything had the tom nearly shaking as he stuck his head into a bush, scraping at the ground with his paws to uncover any needles. He had built up a small stash already, but he wasn't actually sure how large the circle needed to be. He assumed it needed to be big enough for a cat to sit inside of. By the looks on some of his siblings' faces, they had doubts that this would work, but he was quite confident in this. Their mother was obviously a ghost, and so it only made sense that they would need to summon her every now and again after she vanishes.
There is something to be said for the power of stupidity and small groups. Though perhaps stupidity was too harsh a word, perhaps it would be more apt to use something softer, such as; naivety. For the kits carried the delusion with them that their mother truly had been nothing more than a wraith that was inhabiting the wrong side of life to be besides them. There was something romantic in the thought, the thought that their mother had loved them so much she had forsaken the peace of death to bring them as far as she could towards a new home. On the other side of this delusion there is the hard cold truth that despite whatever romantic illusions the kits applied to her presence she did still disappear in the end. Leaving them to attach themselves to one of the first cats the encountered, which in turn brought them to Fallclan. In the end it mattered little which one of the siblings thought her a dedicated mother who did her best to help them even as a ghost and those who didn't think that help a grain of truth.
The silly little group had still ventured out into a territory that would have gladly claimed their lives had they not found a sanctuary. Fabledkit looked at her siblings as she dumped another pine needles down into Legendarykit's pile. Eyes taking them in and then marveling at the towering trees around them. The first time they had been brought through the territory she had never truly appreciated how, large, everything was in comparison to them. "Do you think this is enough? I think it's enough." She spoke finally after bringing her gaze back down to Legendarykit. Knowing in the back of her mind, that they would still need to find the perfect place to do the ritual. And think of the right words, and there was honestly still so much to do.

Lorekit just wanted answers, plain and simple. The young tom wanted to understand his past and find a hint of his future, so now he was combing every corner of the area for pine needles. He said nothing as they worked, even when he brought the pine needles and set them with the others in meticulous little piles. His whiskers twitching occasionally were the only signs of his doubt; he extent of his expression about the situation they were in. Would this work? Probably not. But Lorekit was desperate and he knew well enough that desperation meant the occasional dumb idea.
When Fabledkit spoke the tom carried a last small pile of needles and set them neatly down, looking at Legendarykit for affirmation. Was it time? Could they go ahead and get this over with? It was perhaps true that he didn't yet realize the task still before them. All he could focus on was an end. To the wondering and questions and dreams. To the stupid and ever present what if? The young tom held his own opinions and thoughts about their mother and their subsequent settlement in FallClan but this was a last test before accepting his theory.
Snatching up a few more pine needles, Legendarykit scuttled out of the bush to place the last few needles into his pile, then stepped back. Yellow eyes scrutinized the piles in front of him in silence, trying to picture in his mind if this was enough to make a cat-sized circle. He could definitely fit in the circle, but what a larger cat be able to? Before he could frown, the black tom turned his gaze to his siblings, taking in their expressions. They were all nervous about if this would work or not, and Legendarykit wasn't even sure which outcome he was more afraid of. What if this did work, and they were able to summon back their mother? There had to be a cost to messing with this type of stuff, wasn't there? What kind of price would messing with the afterlife require?
He shook his head, forcing a smile to his siblings. "If it's not enough we can always gather some more. There's no rush yet, it's still early." But how long would it take to even track down the location? Again, he forced his worries to the back of his head, knowing that it would be bad if all of them had doubts. "Now, does anyone actually have an idea on where we should do this? I think being near water was a requirement, wasn't it?"

"SummerClan has a beach I've heard," Lorekit supplied unhelpfully, his voice raspy and broken-sounding as ever. That was the extent of his conversational abilities and the small cat instead began resorting the needles into even piles, waiting for his siblings to sort it out. He would follow. Lorekit wasn't one for being the leader, preferring instead to follow and allow events to occur without his interference.
Finding their mother was the most involved with anything he'd been thus far, instead always watching. Collecting information. What could he hope to gain from knowing the favorite prey of the queens? He wasn't sure, but it had to be useful. Just like seeing his mother would perhaps prove helpful throughout his life.
"I think it has to be running water!" Fabledkit pointed out eagerly, not wanting them to make a mistake and ruining everything they had worked towards thus far. "Besides, we can't just go all the way to Summerclan, if we managed to bring back mother she will get in lots of trouble if she's found in their territory." Her young mind barley considered the possibility of they themselves getting in trouble for crossing into other clans lands. "We could go to the waterfall? Surely that's running water and a place of power?" She wondered grasping for the few things she remembered being told about this new territory when they arrived.
It would be a difficult journey for them to make it up the cliffs to the pond that fed the waterfall down the side and into the water below. But Fabledkit knew they had to be able to make it, surely this was something they were supposed to be doing. Surely their mothers spirit would help guide them and aide them in bringing her back into their lives. "If we set off now we can get there before nightfall.." She trailed off as she considered things. "Maybe we should do the ritual as the sun rises? It could help symbolize a new beginning?"
{ ooc: what are everyone's thoughts towards one of the kits slipping into the waterfall? But miraculously surviving but scarred? Or left with a limp? Or damaged hearing? or any other possible thing? Just a thought I wanted to bring up. }
Legendarykit nodded sagely as Fabledkit spoke, taking everything that his sister was saying as fact. He may seem like the leader of his siblings, but it was Fabledkit that often had the great ideas, especially when it came to adventuring. He hadn't been listening when they were told about the territory, and had completely forgotten about the landmarks that they had seen when following Hystericplague back to camp, but now that Fabledkit mentioned it, he had definitely heard the rushing sounds of water. Waterfalls had to have at least some magic in them, it would be perfect! The only worry was if they were gone too long.
Still, when Fabledkit finished, Legendarykit smiled. "That sounds perfect! Right as the sun rises, yes. I couldn't think of a better time to do it!" He watched as Lorekit reorganized the piles, thinking. "I really hope no one noticed that we're gone. I don't want a patrol finding us before sunrise and dragging us back without mom. I hope Mythkit can come up with a good excuse for us."
(edit: heck i forgot to answer your question. i am all for scarring my characters for life, i am down!)
Fabledkit honestly had no idea where Mythkit had been when they left nor did she really have any hope they would know they needed to come up with an excuse for their siblings. Despite all this she spoke with confidence when she said "I'm sure Mythkit will have them chasing their own tails before they even think to look for us." A gleam in her golden eyes that inspired others to take her words at face value. Even if that was a mistake that others should stop making.
"We should try and hunt something as well though! I'm sure mother will be hungry!" Fabledkit continued on with the same easy strong tone. Not considering that none of them could possible hope to successfully catch anything. And when she did paused for a moment and realized that none of them had any hunting experience, or were likely even big enough to catch anything other than tiny mice; well she chose to push those thoughts aside and just ignore them.
Legendarykit again found himself nodding to his sister's ideas, his golden gaze slipping to Lorekit to see if he had anything to add before remembering the sibling's usual quiet. "We got this!" he said, giving the two of them his best smile. It was as if he had yet to realize that they were just kits, and that none of them actually knew how to hunt. After all, he had caught the mossball many times in play, he could certainly catch a rabbit, right? When doubt finally did settle in his gut, though, it wasn't what anyone would expect a normal cat to come up with.
"But... can she even eat? I don't remember her eating that much before. I think it was just for show, don't you?" He glanced down at the pine needles, a slight frown on his face and his brows furrowed. "What if we embarrass her because of it?"

Lorekit listened to their exchange with interest, eyes watchful, without adding his own opinions. The small tom talked very rarely and now wasn't a situation he felt warranted his voice. Instead, the tom decided he'd hunt around for possible prey in case they did decide to add a meal into their plans. He still was unsure about all of this, but played along because he was loyal to his siblings and interested in the story this would make. And their mother? He wasn't sure if that aspect of this adventure meant anything to him. Lorekit was kind of just going with Legendarykit on this one.
Fabledkit considered her brothers words with a severe look of concentration on her features. Though it was al a show, as Legendarykit had provided her with a convenient excuse to get her way out o her previous suggestion of hunting. "You're right. We'll have to just ask her if she would like to hunt with us when she arrives." She declared, like they were picking up their mother from a short trip she took. Rather than attempting a whole ritual to bring her back from the dead.
"Now lets get moving, we have to get to waterfall with time to set up." She started off, desperately trying to recall the way from her vague memories of falling Hystericplague back into camp. "We don't want to fail bringing her back because one of us makes a silly mistake!"
Somehow, it seemed as if a large weight was lifted from his shoulders, though Legendarykit couldn't pinpoint the reason why. He started to follow his sister, then doubled back after a moment when he realized that he had nearly forgotten the pine needles. Honestly, it would be just his luck that they would have forgotten them, and it probably would have been his fault. "We're going now, Lorekit," he spoke, though the needles made the words rather indistinguishable, he figured that he still got the point across as he bounded back to Fabledkit's side. He would have to trust her to lead them, as no amount of wracking his brain could dig up any memories of the layout. Really, he should have been paying attention more, but as long as one of them knew, it wouldn't be a problem, right? So, he pushed his worries out of his mind and continued on.
Fabledkit moved with purpose as she kept a brisk pace forward, or as brisk a pace as a kit could keep. She was fairly confident should could get them all to where she wanted them to be, but that didn't stop the doubt from clenching her muscles and twisting her stomach. Her ears were pricked forward as she listened for the sound of water, and perhaps luck was on her side. As eventually she lead them to the river, and with a little sigh of relief released silently under her breath she started the trek up stream. Walking in silence for the most part, her anxiety at failing to find the thing she assured them she knew the location of choking her words.
It wasn't until the sight of the waterfall she felt some of her tension release. "Now we just have to find a way to the top!"
Once the waterfall was in sight, Legendarykit took the lead to inspect the cliffs, giving his sister a wide smile as he passed. For the most part, the rocks were too steep to climb, especially for their small bodies. "I think we just have to follow the cliff," he said, tearing his gaze away to look at his siblings. Luckily, the sun was still high in the sky, and they had plenty of time. Still, it would be much faster if they could find a spot to climb up from here. He neared the waterfall, tilting his head as he continued to search. The ground here was definitely slippery, and it wouldn't take much for someone to fall into the rushing waters. "Careful with your steps," he called out behind him.

Lorekit followed along dutifully, paw steps sure and eyes watchful. He didn't speak, and tried to ignore the energy he felt in the air. Like something was actually going to happen with this. He was here to support and watch over his siblings, not for any other reason. As much as he wanted to see their mother, part of him just couldn't believe this would work. Once at the waterfall it sank in how potentially dangerous this quest was. Watching Legendarykit close to the churning water made his hair stand on end, "is this worth it?" His voice was a smokey rasp, but his eyes were gentle as he looked at his brother. He didn't want to upset him, but this wasn't safe for them anymore. No one even knew they were out here!
