Wiltedlily sat just outside the nursery, a cluster of kits around her. "And then," she meowed gravely, "the fox ate the couple! They never made it to safety across the thunderpath!"
Galactickit rolled his eyes, "oh come on! What warriors wouldn't notice a fox? Even if they were arguing." The kit was almost an apprentice and was longer bound by the stories Wiltedlily liked to tail. He led the other kits away, Wiltedlily left with an angry look on her face.
Now what? Usually she got to feel useful when the kits learned something from her stories. When they promised to be cautious. But now, what was there for her to do? Dejectedly, limping on her bad leg, she picked a finch out of the fresh-kill pile and padded back to the elder's den to eat alone. Again.
Gripping the chaffinch tightly in his jaws, the dark-furred tom wove through the camp and around the herd of kits as he headed toward the elder's den. "Coldfog, Wiltedlily," he mumbled as he ducked in, "I brought you some-- oh." Harlow stopped and blinked to see the she-cat already had prey in her paws. He adjusted his grip on the bird and stood there awkwardly for a moment, his shoulders hunched forward and his ears back, uncertain how to proceed now that he had prey and so did she. This wasn't how it was supposed to work...

hope you noticed galactickit throwing shade at dawn x soot lmao
Wiltedlily looked up at Harlow's entrance, noticing the prey in his jaws immediately. She glanced at her own meal, one small bite missing. Harlow was pretty dedicated to the elders, bringing them prey more so than any warrior. In fact, perhaps she should have expected him. Feeling rude the young else sat up and padded forward with her limp, "I'm sure Coldfog will enjoy this, I do believe he could share it with Stormyblizzard." The white cat took the bird and set it beside the sleeping form of the other elder, his paws twitched as he dreamed. "Thank you, Harlow," Wiltedlily padded back to her own meal, not particularly hungry after such a depressing morning. "You're quite the hunter."

He smiled slightly as she took the prey, but it was an empty look. He felt guilty that she had to make excuses for his prey. "No, don't worry about it... it's my fault really, I should have checked to see if you'd eaten already. I just thought maybe you'd want something warm, but by the time I got back to camp this wasn't very warm anymore." He frowned, scuffing the dirt with a paw.

Wiltedlily seemed unsure of how best to cheer the tom up, so she tried to sound light-hearted as she spoke, "I really appreciate it, Harlow. Really. And so will Coldfog. You're a great warrior, most cats would have ordered the apprentices to fetch us food."
